i feel like some of the problems or groups of people are almost portrayed a dramatic? (maybe satirical) like i get its a middle grade series, it’s supposed to be lighthearted but idk, i feel like “Ben being a lizard” shouldn’t have been used, i totally thought it was just gonna be “hey guys Ben lied, he’s actually a terrorist” but ig the lizard thing was more of a “ hey things on the internet can get out of hand vv quickly” (but yes i love Mary Hale w my whole heart) -t1sb

i'm basing a bunch of my feelings on the author's note, not gonna lie. there are some discrepancies there between the message he says he's trying to send and the message that's being presented are totally different.

like, i feel it mr. gibbs was really really trying to make a point relevant to his middle grade readers, the conspiracy should have been spread through, like, mainstream social media. gen z has been raised on a steady diet of "don't believe everything you read online", so they know that random sketchy websites shouldn't be believed. but think about TikTok and how rampant misinformation is on there, and how easily the actual target of the series falls for it. but instead it's all on a website 99% of people are already well aware they shouldn't trust.

and it he wanted to be really daring with his message, talk about how mainstream media itself lies! or, at least, how it doesn't get facts right.

part of what bothered me was that he was like "if 99% percent of the scientific community agrees on something, they're probably not lying to you", and while I won't ascribe malicious intent back in January 2021, scientists and the mainstream media said that the COVID vaccine made you completely immune, and you only needed two shots. If you thought that that sounded wrong, seeing as it's the same type of virus as the common cold, which is notorious for mutating, so it probably wouldn't completely immunize you and even on the off chance it did, you would absolutely need to get boosters, guess what?

you were labeled a crazy conspiracy theorist.

look up mainstream articles about the vaccine from around that time, videos of news personalities from anywhere outside of Fox News, and maybe even some of them on there.

and now? that's basically the position.

anyway, maybe it's because i've been in the group he's targetting a whole bunch and been proven right later that it rubs me the wrong way, but maybe after having a chance to think about it i'll have different feelings about it.

but it's like if you took all the problems i have with about two specific paragraphs in SSGS and made them into a whole book, that book would be SSPX

''Alright, thanks for clarifying, Checo.'' Derek concluded, glancing down at his journal to see what the next topic of discussion was. 

The director scratched his voice before addressing the drivers again. ''Uhm, we also wanted to remind everyone to be wary of what they say in the media regarding our organization,'' he stated, ''the FIA has the feeling that there have been deliberate attacks on them the last few weeks and they are willing to give out penalties if it happens again.'' 

The drivers looked at each other, confused by the sudden declaration that the FIA has been receiving ''attacks'' from the drivers. ''Can you give an example, because I think I speak for everyone when I say that I'm confused.'' George spoke up, the others nodding along to his question. 

Derek flipped through his papers, trying to find the notes his colleagues had given him regarding the ''offensive'' comments that had been made against them. 

''Oh, here,'' he put on his reading glasses, holding the piece of paper farther from his face, ''the comment they're referring to was one made by… Y/N at the previous race.'' 

The young woman's head sprung up at the mention of her name, clueless as to how she could have upset the FIA. ''What? W-what did I say?'' She managed to stutter out, all the eyes on her making her feel uneasy. 

''Uh, you were asked about the diversity in the sport and you said, and I quote: 'The FIA should do more regarding women in motorsport, there are still many things that need to be changed.' End quote.'' Derek answered her, putting his paper back in place. 

Y/N frowned at the man. ''I don't see what's wrong with that, to be honest.'' She told him, failing to see how the FIA would feel this was a ''deliberate attack''. 

The director sighed, already getting the suspicion the woman would not be happy with what he was about to say. ''Certain members of the board were offended by your words, because they saw it as you accusing them of being sexist.'' 

The silence in the room was deafening, every single person awaiting Y/N's reaction to Derek's clarification. The drivers took a glimpse at her, trying to read the indifferent expression on her face that didn't give much away about how she was feeling. 

''They think I'm accusing them of being sexist? What I meant was that they should take more actions in encouraging young girls to get into racing- I don't understand how that would correlate to me calling them sexist.'' Her usual cheerful tone was replaced by a monotone voice that almost scared some of her colleagues. 

Derek took a deep breath again. ''Well, they felt like you were insinuating it and they are offended by the alleged insinuation.'' 

''Just because they are offended doesn't mean they're right.'' She bit back, not missing a beat. 

''I'm simply delivering their message, Y/N,'' the director told her politely, wanting to remind her that he's not the person she should be upset with, ''anyway- if you go up there and apologize for your comment, they're considering leaving it as a warning for you and also the others.'' He finished the list of notes they had given him. 

The reaction from the room wasn't one he was expecting; absolute outrage. 

''She shouldn't apologize for that neither should she be penalized for it.'' Sebastian was the first one to speak up, directly looking Derek in the eye. 

The drivers agreed. ''Yeah, it's called freedom of speech.'' Max added, also not seeing why Y/N should go down there and say sorry to the members of the board. 

''Like I said earlier, I'm simply delivering their message.'' Derek repeated himself, feeling the tension and frustration growing in the small space. 

''But don't you see how ridiculous this is?'' Sebastian rebutted, hoping the man at the front could at least agree with them and say that it was indeed a weird request. 

Derek shook his head. ''I'm just the middle man, Seb,'' he sighed, turning his head towards the quiet female driver, ''Y/N, make it easier for yourself and go up there after the meeting, you don't want to receive a penalty for something like this.'' 

''I'm not apologizing.'' Her voice comes out strong, not in an aggressive way, but in a manner that lets everyone know she's not backing down. ''Give me as many penalties as you want, I'm not accepting them.'' She crossed her arms, indicating she was sticking to her words, almost stubbornly. 

The other drivers looked on proudly, glad she was standing by her belief and didn't give in simply because it would make everything ''easier''. Lewis gave her a nod, subtly letting her know he supported her and had her back. 

''Alright, then that will result in a fine of a number that is yet to be determined.'' Derek picked up his pen and wrote down that she would not come by their office, already knowing his colleagues wouldn't be happy with it. 

''Just so you know- I'm not paying that.'' Y/N said, matter-of-factly. 

Derek looked up from his journal. ''If you refuse to pay the fine, we can either add a grid-place penalty or a time penalty.'' He recited the rule as if he had done it a million times before. 

''Derek, this is stupid,'' Kimi decided to voice his opinion, ''the race shouldn't be affected, because of a comment she made that had nothing to do with racing in the first place.'' He defended her, allying behind her stance to not accept any of the penalties they give her. 

''I'm just doing my job, Kimi.'' 

''I also want to just do my job, Derek, which is racing, but these ridiculous rules to silence me prevent me from doing that.'' Y/N argued his response, just wanting him to see her point of view. 

The director's hand went over his face, seemingly wiping his agitation away. ''No one is trying to silence you, Y/N.'' He quickly answered. 

''That's why all the other drivers receive penalties whenever they question the FIA, right?'' Her comment must have shut him up as he solely put his pen down without saying another word about the matter. ''Yeah, that's what I thought.'' 

Y/N felt her presence wasn't longer necessary as she stood up from her chair, ready to leave the room and join her engineering team in preparation for the upcoming race. However, Derek felt different about that. ''The briefing isn't over yet, Y/L. Sit back down, please.'' 

''I'll see you at the next meeting, Derek.'' She ignored his plea and walked towards the door. 

The director stood up from his desk at the front. ''Y/N, if you leave before it's done, the board will-'' 

''The board can kiss my ass.'' 

''Y/N Y/L RECEIVES A 20-PLACE GRID PENALTY AHEAD OF THE 2021 SPANISH GRAND PRIX DUE TO DAMAGING REMARKS AGAINST THE FIA'' 

''FIA RE-EVALUATING Y/N Y/N's PENALTY AFTER BACKLASH'' 

''FIA SUSPENDS GRID PENALTY OF Y/N Y/L DUE TO AN ERROR'' 

The day after the driver's briefing had been quite eventful to say the least. As soon as the FIA announced that she had been given a penalty, the backlash from drivers, fans and reporters started. 

Lewis had condemned their decision claiming it was based on nothing and that nothing about her comment was an attack on the organization. His teammate, Valtteri, followed him in his opinion stating: ''Drivers should be able to say what they want to say, she doesn't deserve a penalty for that.'' 

Sky Sports F1 reporter, Martin Brundle, also came to the driver's defense. ''If we're going to punish drivers for stating their opinions, we might as well get rid of the entire sport, especially if what they're saying isn't far from the truth.'' 

After finishing P5 in the race, Y/N spoke to Will Buxton in her post-race interview. ''You must be very happy with your result today, considering you almost had to start from the very back of the grid.'' 

''I'm content with today's race, obviously would have loved a podium but Mercedes was better today,'' she chuckled, ''yeah, it wasn't fun waking up to that news, but I'm happy that it was reversed and the support I received was just- wow, I'm very grateful for everyone.'' 

''According to some sources, it got pretty heated in the driver's briefing on friday- would you like to clarify?'' Will asked her. 

A sarcastic laugh left her mouth. ''I would just like to forget about it, moving on is the best thing to do right now.'' She smoothly avoided the question, figuring she shouldn't make the FIA more mad by airing out all their business. 

''Alright, thank you so much for talking to us, Y/N and congratulations on your race today.'' He nodded, bidding her goodbye. 

On her way back to her team's hospitality, she was stopped by none other than Susie Wolff. ''Lewis told us what happened during the briefing- I'm very proud of you for standing up for yourself, not everyone could have done that.'' 

''It was so awful, Susie,'' Y/N hugged the older woman, ''it's like they just wanted to give me some sort of punishment- I don't even want to know what would have happened if I went down there by myself.'' Susie rubs her back at her words, also not wanting to think about what could have gone down. 

''It's okay now, honey,'' they pulled apart, Susie's hand staying on her shoulder, ''by the way- did you really say that the board could kiss your ass?'' 

Y/N laughed at her question, excitedly nodding her head. ''At first I wanted to say something like 'the board can stick that penalty right up their ass’ but I needed a cool getaway so I opted for something shorter.'' 

''Atta girl''

Chapter 7: Misfit On a Journey - Author's Notes

This chapter is where the pacing starts to slow down in comparison to the past 6 chapters. And I'll be upfront about this honestly: yes, it makes me worry. Because although, there needs to be some scenes/chapters where the pacing is reasonably slow to establish important details, I have this looming fear that readers will be like, "why does this story feel like it's slowing down?"

Well, sometimes it's necessary to have parts of a story that aren't paced quickly all the time. At least that's how I feel about it, or what I was thinking whilst writing it down. (I'm used to writing build-up and character growth, so please bear with me. I am not a prolific/professional writer.)

The Cast

Edguy appears in the warehouse the following morning after the Motorhead gang throws a mad rager one night. Where has he been? That's the question. I could explain it, though, I am trusting of readers to piece it all together eventually, so I won't spoil lol.

This guy. He's just so... so... sigh he's difficult as fuck to write. I don't know if that's obvious to readers or not, but it's very true for me. I know his personality, but for right now, his own personal motivation for joining Motorhead in the first place is a little unclear. I have hopes that this perplexity can be eradicated as I start to focus more on his backstory (which I happen to have an outline of in my head, but you know how writing characters goes. Something could change at some point lol.)

During Edguy's conception, the original plan was to make him a machiavellian that gets a thrill out of manipulating people to the point that they trust him. And that's when he weaves these deceitful situations only to screw them over and get what he wants with no remorse. Bear in mind, he is still this way. BUT! For the sake of not revealing too much just yet, I won't say any more about him.

Husselhoff and Tiny Dancer have made another appearance. It's at this point in Whiplash where we are supposed to assume they had no luck in catching Léon in Chapter 3. But I won't lie, part of me feels I could have SHOWN that they lost him, but at the time of writing chapter 3 I was doubting myself and thought the chapter was already long enough. Also, I didn't want to detract from the action taking place by switching to a scene that wouldn't feel relevant anyway, so I just left it. I trust that people that have read chapter 3 get the idea.

Geil comes across as this intimidating, mysterious guy whose facial and bodily features are mostly shrouded in darkness. (This will come to mean something later, so remember that.) He is just as vital to the main plot as Edguy. What begs the question is: why is Léon a prime target to Motorhead? And what is the reason he was framed by Edguy for the murder of innocent civilians? What the hell did he do to piss them off this badly? At least I'm hoping that's what people are asking themselves. If not, I am failing somewhere lol.

PATHGOD Clones

Edguy's stand ability was fairly simple to conceive, which worries me that it's too simplistic despite having tricks and twists to define it. Stands are admittedly one of my biggest weaknesses when it comes to writing a believable fight scene. I fear people expect me to create something deep and uniquely esoteric. Another problem that stems from this is: what if the stands I create are too simple that everyone writing a fanpart has used before? Which I feel a lot better now having accepted that it's just one of those things that generally happens all the time.

I won't say too much about what the stand's ability is COMPLETELY other than the doppelganger in chapter 6 had a different ability from Rebel Yell while still being faithful to it at the same time. To clarify: Both Rebel Yell and Red Jumpsuit Apparatus are chemical compound stands. Each just has a different method in how it works. For example: Léon's stand alters his form and things in a 10 meter radius to clay. But RJA alters its user's body into metal and produces immense heat capable of melting steel.

How this ties into PATHGOD'S ability is that it takes the element (such as: fire, wind, earth, and water) that matches the personality of the target and uses that against them in its own unique way. HOWEVER. this was not how I originally planned it to be. This was originally going to tie into stand evolution, and how these abilities tie into mirroring the target's stand's full potential. However, writing stand evolution into Whiplash just didn't feel like the right path to take, so I changed it to make it more interesting. And partially because I do NOT feel like stressing myself out with evolved stand abilities and how complex they are. I already have a hard enough time writing interesting stand abilities by themselves.

Post Cliffhanger

I really want to give Edguy more pov focus, but I'm not yet sure when I can do that. Probably once I'm finished writing Chapter 18 (which I am currently doing). Since some new threats are going to be established in Chapter 19 and 20. Those are going to be the turning point for the main characters, and things are going to get much more serious. Shit, I almost gave too much away. AAAAAAAA I just want to talk about the story!!!! But... can't. Don't want to ruin it. All you need to know is that more major villains will be springing up like daisies here in the near future, so I can't wait to see how readers will react to that!

References

The title of the chapter, Misfit On a Journey -- lyrics from a song called Ghost in the Moon by Avantasia. Such a gorgeous song which I feel is about someone who is gravely misunderstood by their peers and just wants to be accepted for all that they are. In a way, I feel like this fits Leon, but why I wanted this to be the title in a chapter that isn't focused on him is solely because I feel like the word "misfit" also represents Edguy to a certain degree. He isn't so much in a gang to feel a part of the scene, but for things that haven't been conveyed yet in Whiplash.

Edguy -- named after one of my all-time favorite German metal bands by the same name. (Just go listen to one of their two albums: Tinnitus Sanctus and Theater of Salvation. You'll see what I mean.)

Canneberge -- They are briefly mentioned and will make a grand appearance in Chapter 13. Their name is a reference to the Irish rock band, the Cranberries. Canneberge is just French for Cranberry.

Boulevard de Rêves Brisés -- this is a direct translation in French for Green Day's song, Boulevard of Broken Dreams.

U.04 Thoughts...basically a review/reaction. But also not. Because I'm a sarcastic narcissist.

So- I- WOW.

I HAVE A LOT OF FEELINGS RN

OH. MY GOD.

(spoilers ahead, be warned!)

(Also, I wrote this on my Kindle Fire, so expect spelling mistakes.)

First off, I'm gonna clarify - this is my thoughts on the FIRST VIEWING. I'm gonna re-watch it later and think about stuff more then. I haven't watched it a single time after the first, because I needed to write this.

Second...

Ink was portrayed BRILLIANTLY in this episode. This is EXACTLY what he is- only in it for his own entertainment/benefit. He is Chaotic Neutral at best, and Chaotic Evil at worst. And here? He's at his worst. Straight up ELIMINATING the rest of the Multiverse, breaking the natural order of things- all because he was bored. Goddamn, I love/hate that asshole.

I gotta give props to the animation, as well- it was gorgeous. Jakei is an EXCELLENT animator, and this episode was WORTH the wait. I actually paused the episode at certain points just to appreciate how a character breathed, or how good they looked.

While the humor wasn't a prime focus, one always has to give it a HUGE shoutout. The joy, of course, usually came from my own squeals at Error's usual crazy reactions to things (imsorryilovehim) but there were also times where I took a break from my sobs just to laugh hysterically. Lots of them, in fact.

Enough praises though, lets give it a rundown. Skipping over the part that was previewed, we start in Underwap, with X-Tale Alphys. Now, what I noticed here is that Code Frisk seemed a bit surprised at all this- but I'll put that down to out-of-ut shenanigans. Anyway, X-Tale Alphys somehow uses one of the X-Tale TIMELINES to 'quarantine' Underswap, that's the main thing. Here, we also get an explanation for why Papyrus didn't come with them...there wasn't any point to it. Which is kinda a grim start for the episode, if you ask me.

Skimming over the Underfell bit- I don't have much to talk about there, surprisingly - lets discuss Nightmare and Killer and X-Tale Chara. Nightmare got a few chuckles out of me here, I have to say. Mainly from the look he gave Chara after they wanted to get the vial. It was the perfect embodiment of 'dude wtf' 

I find it interesting here that Nightmare says that he 'owns' Chara. I mean- once they get to full power, they could just OVERWRITE him away.

Then again, it won't happen if he kills Chara first. Which he plainly can, dear Lord.

Now, what REALLY gets me in this scene is what Killer said. Because they took Classic's soul, they interfered with the UT Universe, thus making a ripple effect across all the timelines connected to it. This way, Killer knew EXACTLY what was going down.

This makes me wonder- does that mean, currently, all the Sanses in the Multiverse will be aware of the X-Event? Or just the ones closely intertwined with the main UT universe, like Killer's? It's a shame they never touch more on this, I personally find it fascinating.

Anyway, we finally make our way to Outertale, where we stay for almost all of the remaining episode. Here, the Sanses, Swap, Fell, and Sans, decide that they're done with Ink's bullshit. They want to go home, and they miss their brothers.

Unfortunately, Ink went missing, because he's a little shit that can't stay in one place like a good boy. So Classic has to take a break from his beautiful, busy hair-brushing and babysit this douche. AKA, go find him.

While looking, Classic finds a meteor shower, which...has no real importance. I'm not even sure why I included it, it's just a nice moment. Followed up by a fart joke.

Long story short, Sans encounters Outer, who is actually really fucking chill??? And I love?????? Him?????????? So much????????????????

Skipping ahead a bit, Nightmare attempts to force-feed Chara some poor monster's soul, but Chara can't eat that shit. You know what they can eat? Their soul! That's right - Glitchlord, aka ERROR, is here to find Ink and beat the crap out of him.

Little personal note- I love how he goes from basically 0 to 100 in a second. "Sup Nightmare, WHERE THE FUCK IS INK."

Turns out, Ink isn't feeling things, because not even Nightmare, who can sense emotions, can find him. Which means that Ink didn't take his pills today- naughty boy.

It's a shame we don't get more of Outer, tbh- I really liked him. That's definitely one of this episode's flaws. Alas, Killer has to kill SOMETHING, otherwise his name means literally nothing.

Skipping ahead, since I, again, don't have much to say about anything else- the Error and Ink fight.

DEAR LORD, THE ERROR AND INK FIGHT.

This thing is BEAUTIFUL. It's basically a game of keep-away between a grumpy glitchlord, a mad artist, and a smol anger child. Because that's what it is- and it gave me CHILLS. Mainly Ink. He gives me chills. How he looks, the way he can effortlessly throw down everyone WITHOUT his brush, the cut Error gave him- this is what he really is, at heart. Or should I say, without one.

The fight pauses so Ink can give a speach, and now? Now, we have CONTEXT.

Record Scratch.

Freeze frame.

That context.

Ink did this all because he was going to be empty without new AUs. He sided with X-Gaster because he needed something new. Something interesting. Something to fill the emptiness that is eternally there, he did it because he was bored, he did this all to have something new, he did it to play a game that would never end- and I'll fight you on it, that is the most human thing he's done, ever. Period. Never again, I show ship Ink and X-Gaster, we're calling it Creation, you can't stop me, it's sailed, and I'm the captain.

But, you ask, why did he have to be soulless to do it? Because he would otherwise feel guilty about leaving behind Cross- a genuine FRIEND. And if that also isn't the most human thing to do, if you can find a better example I'll write a bad Jerry X Reader fanfic.

(I'm not joking. I will, please pm me if you find something.)

Anyway, the real takeaway here is that Ink successfully summons Satan, AKA X-Gaster. And he proceeds to murder everyone, shove Error in the Anti-Void for being bad, give Ink's brush back, shove Classic back into UT, kill the AUs (no, actually, Error did that, but shh-) and make Cross...come back?

Horray! Start the victory parade!

...but not really. Because, from what I can tell(?), almost everyone is in a 'Quarantine ' zone, probably to wait while Ink and the X-Tale crew break bread and make their new world. Infact, from what I can tell, the only people besides them who aren't there are Error (who's having a fit in the AV), Cross, Dream, Fresh, and Nightmare and Killer, but those last two might just be around because Nightmare blends in with the background WAY too much.

x-Faster leaves, giving Cross the option to join him, and...I hope he doesn't. I pray he doesn't.

But enough of that. Let's talk about 'Valiant Heart' for a second, huh ~?

Tbh, I actually thought that Dream would DIE in this scene. Really - Nightmare saw a chance to get rid of a KNOWN thorn in his side, and he took it. Luckily, Cross saved him, and they both escaped...

But this scene has other things to talk about. First off, it's beautiful. This is the only thing in Underverse (so far/as far as I know) that isn't fully animated, instead shone in quick images and only having GORGEOUS song lyrics. I LOVE this part, and it might just be my favorite out of the whole episode.

Although..... I'm 25% percent sure that Dream and Cross went to X-Tale to hide, and Nightmare and Killer are now left alone in the black space that used to be the Doodle Sphere. Do they stay there? Is Nightmare's castle still existing?? This is like Killer's line at the start- I want insight to this.

For the sake of keeping this (long) thing short, I'm gonna end here, but...wow. Things are BLEAK rn. I can't even theorize any good possibilities - I'm shook. What a way to end an arc.
