“princess merida is a canon lesbian,” i say into the mic. the crowd full of cishets boos, and there at the forefront stands merricup shippers. “you’re wrong,” they say. i start to walk out in shame, but just then, princess merida herself stands up in the midst of the swarm, like a lone flame in a pool of darkness. “they’re right,” she says. “i am a lesbian.”

FANFIC
The Troll
So this written particularly to dig at the local nutjob in the fandom @newmutantfan but also, I wanted to highlight something. This fic is to represent how we can do basically whatever we want as a fandom. Canon or non-canon we can still co-exist even with our differing opinions. However when an anti/troll comes along, we don't let that get in our way. We carry on enjoying what we want. So a big F U to Mr Nick, and DT to whoever is actually a decent human being in this fandom. This was super fun to write so I hope you enjoy! 😁👌
(I'll probably post any other fics I do in this format because I can fit it all into one space lol)

[REC] Feet Firmly Planted
“When you fall in, I’m not fishing you out,” she says, and she means it. She’ll let him drown, for a laugh.
Jack has always been able to fill any room, any person, with air. Just one of many annoying habits that got under her skin.
[College!au. Hic has asked Rapunzel out to a school party. Left out, Jack asks Merida out to an anti-party, where they blow off the festivities in favor of hanging around like bums.]
Link: AO3 Writer: killFee Genre: Modern AU, College/University AU Language: English Status: Finished Type: Oneshot Characters: Jack, Merida, Hiccup, Rapunzel Relationships: Jarida, background Hiccunzel and implied Merricup Warnings: N/A Review:
This is the fic that officially pulled me into the fandom lol. Merida and Jack’s voices are PERFECT, and i really admire the author’s command of their words. They use some of the most wonderful prose i’ve ever seen in any rotbtd fic; i keep coming back to this story just to read how they describe the kids.
The story plunges you right into the middle of an ongoing scene, and for an AU oneshot, it does a good job of balancing some nods to the canon while also leaving blanks that the readers are free to fill; like how the four characters come together and what Jack’s memory troubles could mean.
The jarida is in more of a pre-relationship stage here, and the other ships mentioned stay in the background. The fic mostly focuses on their friendly dynamics, and it’s adorable! Even if the ship or setting isn’t your cup of tea, the believable friendship still makes this worth the read.
Easily one of my favorite rotbtd fic!!!

“Merida would be a femcel”
“Merida is such a pick-me girl”
“Merida would be a radfem”
Merida is literally a canon lesbian whom is intimidated by men, prefers the company of women as opposed to being around men, and has a canon nonbinary lover. Don't project your weird misogynistic and transphobic bullshit onto her, we already have to deal with the cishets still forcing heteronormativity onto her to this day in the form of m*rricup or gross m/f crossover ships and them trying to debunk her canon lesbianism in Bravely, the canon sequel to Brave mind you, by being enbyphobic and transphobic towards her canon nonbinary love interest. Merida canonically loves women, and this includes trans women. Merida is canonically nblw. She would never tear down another woman for the approval of men, she is literally discomforted by them, intimidated by them, and explicitly lacks attraction towards men altogether. Merida is not an “I'm not like other girls” archetype and she never has been, y'all are just misogynists projecting your misogyny onto her. Merida, being canonically nblw, would never exclude nonbinaries nor trans women from her lesbianism because she's not a transphobic freak like those of you that are claiming she can't be a lesbian because of Feradach’s existence as her love interest.

This is how I feel every time I see M/rr/I/cup shippers on my dashboard, or really anyone who ships Merida with literally any man.

Reading your post and finding out that Merida is a canon lesbian, I stopped shipping merricup immediately. It’s gross to ship a canon lesbian character with a man. All the merricup shippers screaming crying and throwing up about you somehow “lying for attention” are so unbelievably lesbophobic, enbyphobic, and transphobic. It's not that hard to be respectful to lesbians and the lesbian characters whom represent them and their community.
THIS!! ALL OF THIS!! I never shipped that ship, but it means so much to me seeing someone finally being respectful in regards to Merida being a lesbian and how important she is to the lesbian community and how it's disrespectful to take away our representation by shipping her with men!! FINALLY SOMEONE FROM THE ROTBTFD FANDOM UNDERSTANDS THIS AFTER A LITERAL DECADE OF FORCING HETERONORMATIVITY ONTO HER!!

Oh god they're here again.

So, anyways, I'm going through my asks and deleting all of these but yeah I'm not lying about Merida’s sexuality for attention?? I'm just genuinely happy seeing a character whom I already heavily resonated with for years being confirmed to be a lesbian via various forms of media all owned by the very company that owns her, which is more than enough additional confirmation in itself. As much as m*rricup triggers me and discomforts me, seeing as how it's shipping a canon lesbian with a man, I mean no ill will towards m*rricup shippers, I just ask that you please don't interact with me..

Still thinking about how the unfortunately popular “Rapunzel is related to Anna and Elsa” fan theory was only created because the cishets wanted us to stop shipping Anna or Elsa with Rapunzel.
I literally remember so many people at the time being like “omg can't they just be friends why does everything have to be gay they’re obviously just best friends can you stop they're characters from children's movies?? :/” and then all of a sudden it's “well actually, Rapunzel and Anna are cousins so if you ship them it's incest. Didn't you see the fan theory?”
It's the exact same thing with J///lsa and M////rricup. I remember as soon as Brave came out a lot of lesbians, including myself, were so happy to finally have a female character uninterested in men, who didn't center herself around finding love in the form of a man nor let a man complete her because she didn't need one and it was the same with Elsa too, and then what happened? The straights saw these two independent female characters who either implied or outright stated they didn't want nor need a man in their love lives and they went “we’re gonna force them with men anyways because it’s getting so annoying watching everyone call them gay” whilst completely dehumanizing and dismissing their canon characters and what they represented in the process, especially Merida.
Like, honestly, you can't expect me to like a popular fan theory which was created solely to spite an innocent wlw ship and m/f ships that involve the only Disney princesses/queens who were, at the time, the only blank slate for lgbtq+ youth (more specifically lesbian and homoromantic youth) to project onto, to see themselves in, and to feel represented by.
You can't expect me to love J///lsa and M/////rricup or to be on board with the whole “Rapunzel, Anna, and Elsa are cousins” fan theory when all three of these ideas were originated from the bigoted mindset of homophobes and lesbophobes aiming to spite the lgbtq+ community, and worse, to deny lgbtq+ children characters to project onto, see themselves in, and to feel represented by.
All three of these ideas are deeply rooted in homophobia and lesbophobia, and it’s because of that reason as to why I’ll never truly get into the rotbtfd fandom as a whole. I absolutely refuse to do so.
You can do what you want, ship what you want, but just keep all of that homophobia and lesbophobia away from me and my space.
