Xenology, part one
Tumblr media
My friend was kind of enough to let me have this rare gem, since he lives out in Hong Kong and he has a load of stuff still here in the UK (I also snagged a load of 3rd and 4th edition codexes as well as Imperial Armour books 2-4 (The Taros Campaign and The Anphelion Project).
Anyways, here are some of the awesome art pieces in this great book:
1) Imperial Propaganda against a Xenos species
Tumblr media
2) Said species dissected
Tumblr media
3) A female Tau Ethereal/Celestial, according to the notes on the page to the right.
Tumblr media
4) Dissected Eldar, possibly an exodite
Tumblr media
5) a dissected Umbra xenos
Tumblr media
6) Space Marines fighting Umbra
Tumblr media
7) Ork dissection
Tumblr media
8) Kroot dissection
Tumblr media
9) Q'orl dissection

The Anphelion Project was a confidential operation created on Beta Anphelion IV led by the Inquisition's Ordo Xenos to examine the Tyranid menace. Gathering samples from various imprisoned and dead Tyranids, the Inquisition wanted to find some vulnerability in the creatures that could possibly save humankind from the Tyranid threat. But, in 850.M41 all contact from the research facility of Beta Anphelion stopped, leading to an exploratory team of Red Scorpions, Adeptus Mechanicus, and Imperial Guards led by Inquisitor Solomon Lok to come to the planet.
The Red Scorpions terminators swept the three laboratories and the control facility. Magos Biologis Arthon and his crew examined the archives and found what the facility's purpose actually was. It was constructed to discover a way to neutralize the rapid-growth predispositions of Tyranid creatures. Massive areas stretching out from the labs were cut off from elsewhere. These were where the Tyranids had been retained. Then for reasons unspecified, the fence had collapsed. The Tyranids had absconded, attacking the three hundred man barracks. When the terminators swept the lab centers, they confronted gene-stealers. Now there could be no doubt. The Tyranids were here.
The first priority was to restart the containment fences. The Elysians had the assignment of conducting a technical servitor to fix the generatorum. As the servitor and its guard reached the generatorum, the Tyranids struck. The Elysians fought back the Tyranids as the servitor restored the generatorum. Back at the command facility Lok discovered in detail what had transpired. The Tyranids had been little specimens. They had shown hostility at first. When the samples in one area had begun to evolve wings, the area was cleansed. Then the Tyranids in another section disappeared. A breakdown in the containment fence in the third section set loose the Tyranids upon the moon. The creatures had secreted into the jungles and swamps until they achieved adequate numbers to engulf the labs' battalion of three hundred troopers.
Meanwhile the Cadians at one of the lab complexes were assaulted and overrun, with them Biologis Arthon. At the command complex the Elysians were confronted from below by Raveners and a Trygon and a force of Elysians and Cadians were attacked by Harridans. The Red Scorpion terminators tried to return to the command complex, but hovering spore sacks caused them to crash-land. The rest of the chapter's forces, in defiance of Lok's orders, set out to save the terminators. They arrived on a battlefield; the terminators were encircled. The relief column made a triumphant rescue and returned to base. They landed in time to aid the garrison who had again come under attack. After the fight, the Red Scorpions got orders to evacuate themselves, and only themselves. The transport commandeered for the mission denied all of Lok's requests, abandoning Lok and the small force of survivors on the moon as the Tyranids closed in. In the last battle, Lok succeeded in taking down a Hierophant Bio-titan, only to see two more step out of the ammonia fog. Lok died betrayed by his superiors and his faith.

Timeline of the 41st Millennium: 850.M41
The Anphelion Project was a classified operation based out of Beta Anphelion IV conducted by the Inquisition's Ordo Xenos to investigate the Tyranid threat. Collecting samples from various captured and deceased Tyranids, the Inquisition hoped to find some weakness in the creatures that could potentially save humanity from the Tyranid menace. However in 850.M41 all contact from the research facility of Beta Anphelion ceased, leading to an investigative team of Red Scorpions, Adeptus Mechanicus, and Imperial Guards led by Inquisitor Solomon Lok to arrive on the planet.
The Red Scorpions terminators swept the three labs and the command facility. Magos Biologis Arthon and his team analysed the records and discovered what the facility's purpose truly was. It was built to find a way to counteract the rapid-evolution tendencies of Tyranid creatures. Huge areas spreading out from the labs were cut off from the outside. These were where the Tyranids had been kept. But for reasons unknown, the fence had failed. The Tyranids had escaped, overrunning the three hundred man garrison. When the terminators swept the lab complexes, they encountered genestealers. Now there could be no question. The Tyranids were here.
The first order of business was to reactivate the containment fences. The Elysians had the task of escorting a technical servitor to repair the generatorum. As the servitor and its guard reached the generatorum, the Tyranids attacked. The Elysians held off the Tyranids as the servitor repaired the generatorum. Back at the command facility Lok found in detail what had happened. The Tyranids had been small specimens. They had shown aggression at first. When the samples in one area had started to evolve wings, the area was purged. Then the Tyranids in another section vanished. A failure in the containment fence in the third section loosed the Tyranids upon the moon. The creatures had hid in the jungles and swamps until they reached sufficient numbers to overwhelm the labs' garrison of three hundred.
Meanwhile the Cadians at one of the lab complexes were attacked and overwhelmed, with them Biologis Arthon. At the command complex the Elysians were attacked from below by Raveners and a Trygon and a force of Elysians and Cadians were attacked by Harridans. The Red Scorpion terminators attempted to return to the command complex but floating spore sacks caused them to crash-land. The rest of the chapter's forces, in defiance of Lok's orders, set out to rescue the terminators. They arrived to the clash and roars of battle; the terminators were surrounded. The relief column made a successful rescue and returned to base. They arrived in time to aid the garrison who had again come under attack. After the fight, the Red Scorpions received orders to evacuate themselves, and only themselves. The transport requisitioned for the mission refused all of Lok's requests, stranding Lok and the small force of survivors on the moon as the Tyranids closed in. In the last battle, Lok succeeded in taking down a Hierophant Bio-titan, only to see two more stride out of the ammonia fog. Lok was killed along with the Beta Anphelion rescue team, and the Imperium has since lost all contact with the world.

Codex Tyranid
Let us repeat the same mindless process in the hopes that something new one day emerges.
We’re beginning from ‘The Destroyer of Worlds’ let us see how well the Tyranid do in their own Codex and then compare it to the Blood Angels when they come out soon.
The Death of Tyran: Victory (versus Adeptus Mechanicus)
The Fate of Thandros: Victory (versus Citizens)
Battle for Macragge: Defeat (versus Ultramarines/Imperial Navy)
Sin of Damnation: Defeat (versus Blood Angels)
Behemoth Advances: Victory (versus Explorator Fleets)
The Jagga Waaagh!!!: Victory (versus Orks)
Prandium Devoured: Victory (versus...Citizens?)
The Sybari Slaughter: Victory (versus Chaos Space Marines)
The Purge of Ymgarl: Defeat (versus Salamanders)
Assault on Calth: Defeat (versus Astra Militarum)
The Belly of the Beast: Defeat (versus Mortifactors)
The Anphelion Project: Victory (versus Imperium)
Blackthorne’s End: Victory (versus Imperial Knights)
Serpent Wounded: Defeat (versus Asuryani)
Halathel: Defeat (versus Iyanden)
Eth-Aelas: Defeat (versus Asuryani)
Doom of Malan’tai: Victory (versus Asuryani)
Death comes to Nephilim: Victory (versus Dark Angels)
Monster against Machine: Victory (versus Imperial Knights)
Bane of Shau-Yor: Victory (versus Biel-tan)
Phrixis Erupts: Victory (versus Mordian Iron Guard)
Drakeslayer: Defeat (versus Deathwatch)
Ichar IV: Defeat (versus Ultramarines)
Doom of Iyanden: Defeat (versus Iyanden...duh)
Terror from the Shadows: Victory (versus Citizens again)
Mortrex Overrun: Victory (versus Astra Militarum)
The Jaws of Defeat: Victory (versus Space Wolves)
The Death of Sotha: Victory (versus Space Marines)
Goethe’s Last Stand: Defeat (versus Imperial Titans)
The Defence of Miral: Victory (versus Space Marines)
To Strike a Blow: Defeat (versus Deathwatch)
The Anvil: Defeat (versus Imperial Fists)
Deadly Cargo: Victory (versus Drukhari)
Maw of the Magalodon: Victory (versus Miners)
Death in the Webway: Defeat (versus Harlequins)
Purging of Ghosar Quintis: Defeat (versus Deathwatch)
Devastation of Baal: Defeat (versus Blood Angels/Khorne Daemons/Imperium)
The Coils of Pythos: Defeat (versus Space Marines)
Slaughter of St. Caspalen: Victory (versus Sisters of Battle)
The Swarmlord Returns: Victory (versus Imperium)
The Folly of Pride: Victory (versus Iron Warriors)
Battle of Bloodstar: Victory (versus Imperial Navy)
Defence of Tarsis Ultra: Defeat (versus Ultramarines)
The Battle for Gryphonne IV: Victory (versus Adeptus Mechanicus)
A Bloody Harvest: Defeat (versus Maugan Ra)
The Fall of Shadowbrink: Victory (versus Daemons)
Stuck in the Craw: Defeat (versus Catachan)
Gorgo’s End: Victory (versus Cadians)
Fury of Leviathen: Victory (versus Space Marines)
First of all...that was a lot of battles! O_O
Secondly, yeeeesh, they lose to Space Marines a lot. Anyway, as always, inconclusive, drawed or ongoing battles are omitted so, let us see, what we got;
Victories: 28
Defeats: 21
This means, rounding up of course, Tyranid only win about 58% of battles in their own Codex, losing about a whopping 43%. Tyranid lose almost HALF their battles in their OWN Codex, mostly to the same faction, Space Marines. How much mostly, well; 57%, about, meaning that of their defeats Space Marines alone inflict over half of them.
Yeesh. This decisively puts Tyranid, and Xenos, as the faction with significantly the worst win ratio of the Codices so far in 8th.
Then on to the Characters defeated part:
Tyranid Defeat:
No-one
Tyrand are defeated by:
Dante (Swarmlord)
Marneus Calgar (Swarmlord)
Yeah...GW does not like Nids as more than punching bags >_>
Anyway so what are your predictions for the Blood Angel Codex? Will it continue the 80%+ of all other Adeptus Astartes Codex or actually bother to give them meaningful defeats?
(I think we all already know the answer sadly)
