FUBAR (2023) Created by Nick Santora A few days back, there was a teaser for a Netflix series called FUBAR (yes, the same acronym, Fucked Up Beyond All Recognition) starring Arnold Schwarzenegger that was released, this appears to be a spy action comedy show, and is going to be released on 25 May. As someone who grew up watching Schwarzenegger movies (and now, we do an exercise named after him), it's certainly exciting to see new action content that he's starring in. The man has such a screen presence and can be really funny, but of course a lot depends on the showrunners too, so fingers crossed. But I'll definitely be looking forward to it and will binge the 8 episodes once it's released. It's been a while that I did a one-inch sketch so here is one from the teaser. I've not done something like this for the last couple of years. It was a thing I used to do in the past, so am happy to bring it back now. You can view this upside down as well. You can swipe to see a larger Best Of and Anticipated Movies list. This is a tiered list and is entirely subjective. If a movie isn't on this list, that means, I've not watched it, or I didn't like it enough to include it here. Also, movies can move between tiers. Karthikeya 2 (2022) Directed by Chandoo Mondeti It's hard to believe the first "Karthikeya" movie was released all the way back in 2014 and @avinashseye and myself had watched it in the theatre then. I don't remember the details of the movie now, should rewatch it, but I liked it (with the heroic lead character being named Karthik, how could I not). The sequel has the character Karthik going to Dwaraka and several other places in India in pursuit of an artifact belonging to Lord Krishna. I felt the movie was a bit overlong and a bit heavy handed in the way it approached the spiritual elments, but I enjoyed it overall. As per Wikipedia the budget was just ₹15-30 cr, and it's surprising what they achieved, the movie has an epic scope with great visuals (cinematographer Karthik Gattamneni) and looks much more expensive. This reminded me of two things — an Indiana Jones adventure and a Tintin book. Imagine these two titles — "Indiana Jones and the Lost Treasure of Krishna", or "Tintin and the Lost Artifacts". The Boys (2019-) Developed by Eric Kripke Of late I have been seeing these memes featuring The Deep from the show "The Boys", so for @aninchaugust #aninchaugust #aninchaugust2022, I thought I would draw these frames myself and make a meme template. The show is brilliant, I love it for its dark humour, the extreme violence, blood and gore and adult content. It's also very well written, especially in Season 3, I felt each episode had surprises for us and you never knew where it was going. Weekend sketches for @aninchaugust #aninchaugust #aninchaugust2022 — I watched "Bullet Train" and "DC League of Super-Pets" on Thursday and Friday, so made sketches based on them. Also, @aninchaugust announced Weekend Prompts for sketches, and this weekend's was 'Monsoon' suggested by @rad_art_1, so I drew water droplets for it. And, I watched the show "The Sandman" over the weekend so drew that too. These were all done with 0.5 mm 4B mechanical pencil on A5 Brustro sketchbook. The action scenes were very nicely done. The story elements are familiar, but it's engaging enough and the convoluted plot probably means that one would enjoy it better on second viewing. There were a lot of laughs and some creative kills and violence, which was much appreciated. #683 / 6-Aug-22 DC League of Super-Pets (2022) Directed by Jared Stern The movie was amusing and cute but I didn't find it as funny as say, "The Lego Batman Movie". The voice cast is interesting and the animation is good, but overall the movie wasn't remarkable for me. Also I think if one doesn't have a background of the characters, one would appreciate it even less. #684 / 6-Aug-22 The Sandman (2022) Developed by Neil Gaiman, David S Goyer, Allan Heinberg This 10 episode series is an adaptation of the comic written by Neil Gaiman. Out of the 75 issues of the comic I have read some 20 issues years ago. The series is a faithful adaptation while still being its own thing, the production values are amazing and it's very dark and engaging. The cinematography is interesting, it looks like they shot it with wide anamorphic lenses but the frames seem more squished vertically and have a softer look to them. Two one inch sketches for @aninchaugust #aninchaugust #aninchaugust2022 — of @picturesofmac and @mkbhd. This time, I thought I'll include more drawings of content creators and known people. Marques Brownlee a.k.a. MKBHD is one of the tech YouTubers I've followed for a very long time and I really like his videos for their research, presentation style and no-nonsense approach. The production value is very high, his videos are shot with RED 8K Cinema cameras. Mac, is their studio dog (owned by one of his crew members) and is very adorable. One of my favourite videos on MKBHD's channel is the "Mac Review" which he did as an April Fool's joke where he reviewed Mac as if he was reviewing a tech product. Spoiler: Mac got a rating of 11/10. I thought it would be nice to draw both of them. Both are done with 0.5mm 4B mechanical pencil and the colour for Mac's fur is added with orange ballpoint pen. You can swipe to see scanned versions. These are the first two drawings in a new sketchbook (since the A5 notebook I was using is almost complete).
