Ranbir Kapoor Reflects on Animal: Igniting a Vital Discourse on Toxic Masculinity
Tumblr media
Animal Emerges as a Box Office Triumph, Raising Conversations on Toxic Masculinity"
The Cinematic Impact of "Animal"
Cinema, with its profound impact, has the potential to trigger meaningful conversations, as exemplified by actor Ranbir Kapoor's latest film, "Animal." Released on December 1, the movie emerged as one of the highest-grossing Hindi films of 2023, captivating audiences despite facing criticism for its alleged poor portrayal of women, instances of misogyny, and graphic violence.
Directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, the action-packed drama transitioned to digital platforms with its Netflix premiere last week, boasting a stellar cast including Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Rashmika Mandanna, and Triptii Dimri.
Ranbir Kapoor's Insight on Toxic Masculinity
In a candid video featured on Netflix India's YouTube page, Ranbir Kapoor shared insights on the film's impact, stating, "There is a very healthy conversation that has started about toxic masculinity, which is a great thing because cinema, at least, it starts a conversation. If something is wrong, if you don't show that it is wrong, and unless conversation starts in society, we will never realize it." Kapoor emphasized the need for actors to approach their roles with empathy and acknowledged the audience's pivotal role in discerning right from wrong.
But as an audience, you decide what's wrong. You can make a film on the wrong person and it should be made. Because if you don't make a film on them, society will never improve," the actor asserted.
In "Animal," Kapoor portrayed Ranvijay, a character driven by violence seeking vengeance for an assassination attempt on his estranged father, played by Anil Kapoor. Deol, on the other hand, took on the role of Abrar Haque, a menacing mute gangster serving as the antagonist.

Fate Unveiled
Reflecting on the characters, Kapoor remarked, "And the characters got what they deserved. He got what he deserved, in the end, I got what I deserved," encapsulating the fate of Ranvijay and Abrar.
Adding his perspective, Bobby Deol emphasized the role of storytelling as a reflection of society, stating, "It's showing you what is happening in society, and there are so many things we don't want to talk about. But we are actors and we're just getting an opportunity to play different characters. That's the fun of being an actor."
Furthermore, Kapoor provided an intriguing update on the sequel to "Animal," titled "Animal Park." He shared, "Sandeep has a couple of scenes ready, and he has narrated them to me. It is very exciting. Because of the success of part one, he has the courage and confidence to go even darker, deeper, and complex."
In Conclusion: The Impact of 'Animal'
In conclusion, "Animal" not only achieved remarkable success at the box office but also initiated a valuable dialogue on toxic masculinity, validating the power of cinema to influence societal conversations.
Latest Bollywood News: Amidst the cinematic reflections on toxic masculinity, the latest Bollywood news echoes the success of "Animal" as a thought-provoking film. The sequel, "Animal Park," promises to delve even further into complex narratives, as revealed by Ranbir Kapoor. This cinematic journey reaffirms the dynamic interplay between storytelling, societal reflections, and audience discernment.

Sandeep Reddy Vanga Addresses Criticisms Over 'Kabir Singh' and Shifts Focus to 'Animal'
Renowned director Sandeep Reddy Vanga, known for his films 'Arjun Reddy' and 'Kabir Singh', recently spoke out in an interview about the controversies surrounding 'Kabir Singh'. Dismissing claims of misogyny, he defended the film's stance.
Tumblr media
In the midst of his packed schedule, Vanga's newest release, 'Animal', hit theaters on December 1. This Ranbir Kapoor-starrer marks his third directorial venture post 'Arjun Reddy' and 'Kabir Singh'. When questioned about the contentious non-consensual kiss scene in 'Kabir Singh', the director staunchly defended the sequence, emphasizing his nonchalant attitude towards the controversies surrounding the film.
Vanga's response underscored his disregard for the controversy, stating, "I didn’t think much about it. I don’t think that Kabir Singh was a misogynistic film. Only four-five people felt offended, and created noise about it. I never took them seriously."
When confronted about the broader dissent, he dismissed it, remarking, "Four people wrote articles about it, and that inspired others to write more articles. Not more than 20 people in total, it was their point-of-view. We should not talk about all that, bhool jao Kabir Singh ko (forget Kabir Singh).”
'Animal' made its global theatrical debut on December 1, 2023. Directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, the movie explores the complex father-son relationship. Alongside Ranbir Kapoor, the film features Anil Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna, Bobby Deol, and Triptii Dimri in pivotal roles.
