Jaguar cub in dark clay
[image descriptions: four photographs of a ceramic jaguar cub. The jaguar is looking up and crouching as if the cub was surprised in the middle of walking; its front left and back right paws are extended forward, and its shoulders are hunched. Its tail is curled around one leg to its hip. The glaze is slightly mottled on the jaguar's back, but clear enough to reveal its warm-brown body and black markings imitating a jaguar's rosettes and stripes.]

I don't post them much anymore but these guys are still the most popular thing I've ever made, by far.
I mailed off glaucus atlanticus number 996 today.

made a protective pup. needs some refining, but I like him so far
should I underglaze this one, or glaze it?
underglaze would look something like this (though not those markings)

but glaze would be more like these, though I’d make the collar a brighter colour

it’s been a while since i posted this guy. this was the biggest sculpture i made in 2022, he was about 15cm or 6 inches from paws to tail.
painted one early morning while i had insomnia, and sold to someone who claimed him before i even put up a listing for him.
this sculpture is made with fimo air basic in white. he’s painted with a combination of himi jelly gouache and holbein acryla gouache, and sealed with a glossy water based varnish.

Slightly unhinged otter ceramic tumbler 🦦
I didn’t mean for him to look so unhinged, a friend commented that he looked desperate for a drink! I have been exploring different positions for my animals on ceramic vessels, and this one has the cute little otter hanging on the rim by its paws. The tumbler was thrown on the wheel and the otter was sculpted later, biscuit-fired separately and attached by glazing. I have found that this is the best way to avoid nasty cracks, one of the problems I struggled with most during my early days of creating my animal mugs. As with many other struggles I have had with ceramics, this took many trials and surfaced many errors until I arrived at this conclusion. 🥲
I used some new Amaco glazes here, 2x Blue Rutile on the tumbler body, 2x Iron Luster only at the rim on grey speckled stoneware, fired to cone 5, no hold. Honestly I’m not too keen on the colours of the tumbler, a bit too rustic for the vibe I had in mind, but I’d love to read your opinions! What do you think?
