Prince Philip kneels to pay homage to his wife Queen Elizabeth II at her Coronation in Westminster Abbey, 2 June 1953
Prince Philip was the first after the archbishops and bishops, to pay homage to the newly crowned sovereign. He solemnly promised, 'I, Philip, Duke of Edinburg, do become your liege man of life and limb, and of earthly worship; and faith and truth I will bear unto you, to live and die, against all manner of folks. So help me God.’ After the ceremony he reportedly asked her 'where did you get that hat?'.

A quick skim through the BBC!Ghosts tag tells me that no one has spent too much time trying to decode the Captain’s service ribbons. Lucky you, I did!
The badge on his jacket lapels say that he was in the royal artillery
1939 to 1945 Star: This is awarded to anyone who completed operational service overseas between 3 September 1939 and 8 May 1945 for at least 180 days.
France and Germany Star: Awarded for at least 1 day of operational service in France, Belgium, Luxembourg, The Netherlands or Germany between 6 June 1944 and 8 May 1945.
Defence Medal: Awarded for non-operational service (like training bases, for example) in the UK or overseas. A minimum of 3 years service in either the UK (3 Sep 1939 and 8 May 1945) or in the Home Guard (14 May 1940 and 31 Dec 1944) are required; if stationed overseas, 1 year between 3 Sep 1939 and 2 Sep 1945.
War Medal 1939 to 1945: Awarded to all full time personnel of the armed forces who served at least 28 days between 3 September 1939 and 2 September 1945, no matter where. In Europe, WWII ended in May 1945; this medal was instituted in August 1945.
He doesn’t wear any other clasp, so he didn’t fight in the Battle for Britain or the Battle of the Atlantic (makes sense, those were RAF and Navy stuff mostly). The Africa Star was awarded for a minimum of one day of operational service in North Africa, the Arctic Star was awarded for any amount of time spent fighting in that campaign, and the Pacific, Burma, and Italy Stars were awarded upon entry into an operational area. He was awarded none of these medals, which means he only fought the France and Germany campaign.
He only wears WWII medals, which means he didn’t fight in WWI (it was unlikely he would have anyway, tbh, 41 was the the maximum age to fight in WWII, which would have made him 18 in 1916). The order I’ve written them out in (from top to bottom) is the order they should go left to right. For some reason, the Captain is wearing the ribbon band upside down. That’s a very huge big no good no-no. At first I assumed if was a mistake by the costume people, but it’s been three seasons and that hasn’t been fixed yet so I have to conclude it’s intentional. It could be some kind of BBC directive (idk, “non-army personnel has to wear the uniform in a certain way or it’s an insult to the queen” or some other silly nonsense) or it could be a genuine mistake the Captain made before dying, in which case I assume he’s spent sixty years being massively bothered by this. [ @lagoonnebula6523 said that the director of series 1 and 2 hinted that the reason for this mistake would be revealed in a future series, which I think points to an in universe explanation. Thank you for the info, this is super cool to know!] [Small aside, but I remember googling why the ribbons would be worn upside down and what i found was neat but probably unrelated. Check the tags if you’re interested]
I believe he’s in a service dress, which basically means he was at some kind of event when he died. He’s not in the army equivalent of the white tie, so we’re not talking about something too fancy. Maybe some sort of minor party?
So yeah, dude died after the war ended, and considering he seems used to saying “king” instead of “queen” I feel like he died either before Elizabeth was crowned or just after, so somewhere between August 1945 and around 1953-55
#bbc ghosts#ghosts bbc#bbc!ghosts#long story short; dude fought at least half a year in belgium and france#Could have been involved with d-day or he could have arrived later#he also doesn't have a Korea medal (the requirement for it is at least one day in korea if you're army)#that war started in 1950 and was established in 1951#that could mean he died before that war begun... but i also have no fucking clue how the army works#like idk maybe they only sent six pople who drew the short stick for that one and he wasn't one of them#and i mean his knees are clearly in a bad way so maybe he was alive and just couldn't go#he could also have been too old (read: over 41) for that one#Okay now re: what i found out when i googled why a ribbon band would be worn upside down#I found were a couple of articles about some army guy wearing the ribbon band upside down by mistake and apologizing for it#(i seem to remember he was american but still i think the contriteness would be the same)#and the historical novel “The Reverse of the Medal” by Patrick O’Brian#remember the Master and Commander movie? It comes from a series of books the reverse of the medal is from#if you don't remember it: historical novels set in 1800 following a Navy officer and his friend#in the Reverse of the Medial a character goes through cashiering#(basically a ritual of shame in which you're dishonourably discharged)#the title is a reference to that and also probably to the flying the union jack upside down#flying the union jack upside down is a big no no but it's sometimes done (generally by people in the forces)#to signal distress#the title is obviously also a reference to the turn of phrase 'opposite side of the medal'#is this in any way relevant to the Captain? Probably not!

It is very sad when we heard the news that she has passed on because she left a big legacy in this hotel because most of the tourists who normally visit here in Africa don't complete their journey without coming to Treetops and seeing where Queen has seated and normally always want to see the Queen's room because it still exists, and it's like a monument
- Amos Ndegwa
HM Queen Elizabeth II, who died at the age of 96, was a mere 25 year old princess when she learned she had become queen in February 1952 whilst on an official trip to Kenya with Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
In February 1952, Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip had begun a Commonwealth tour with a visit to Kenya, after being seen off by her parents King George VI and Queen Elizabeth and her sister Princess Margaret at London's Heathrow airport on 31 January 1952.
When the news broke with the death of King George VI, the princess was staying at the Treetop Lodge located at the Aberdare National Park in Kenya. The lodge built in 1932 was the only lodge forty feet from the ground. Guests could watch animals comfortably from the comfort of their rooms that's why Princess Elizabeth was attracted to the place.
Tumblr media
Princess Elizabeth had spent the night of February 5th at the Treetops Hotel after a day of watching big game.
Princess Elizabeth was told of her father's death on the afternoon of the 6th at Sagana Lodge - just hours later they were on their way back home to London. It was Prince Philip who broke the news to her. She arrived back on British soil the next day - for the first time as Sovereign. HM Queen Elizabeth II was crowned on 2 June 1953.
Amos Ndegwa’s grandfather built the lodge and he took over as the main guide. He named one of the suites after Queen Elizabeth. Amos is a repository for the hotel's secrets. "My father was working as a chef and he used to cook for Queen Elizabeth in 1952 when she came here for the first time”.
Tumblr media
The lodge was run as a very successful business until the Covid pandemic devastated business and it was forced to close down. There are now calls amongst Kenyans for the government to turn it into a national monument.

In Honor of Queen Elizabeth II
Many in the world are saddened to hear of the passing of the longest reigning British sovereign, Queen Elizabeth II. Queen Elizabeth became the queen regent at 25 years of age after the passing of her father, King George VI, in February of 1952; her formal coronation was a year later on June 2, 1953. The United Kingdom, and Commonwealth has just celebrated the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee which marked the 70th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s accession to the throne this year. Queen Elizabeth’s successor is her eldest son, (now) King Regent Charles III; who is formally Prince Charles, the Duke of Cornwall and Rothesay.
Tumblr media
To mark this moment of history, here are three beautiful booklets from the Coronation of her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II (1953, June 2), the Coronation of Their Majesties King George VI and Queen Elizabeth (1937, May 12), and The Strand Coronation Souvenir (1937, March). Note the photograph of Queen Elizabeth II, the poem from the Poet Laureate, John Masefield, and the coronation procession of her majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s official route from the souvenir program. Also notice the royal family tree, or rosebush, from The Strand Coronation Souvenir which also shows Westminster Abby’s High Altar and the Crown Jewels used during the royal coronations.

Portrait of Queen Elizabeth II in young days in Duckverse - Tribute to her (1926-2022)
Please, this is not a parody, but a tribute to the Royal Majesty of United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland plus the British Commonwealth. Queen Elizabeth II when she was young woman and ascended the throne, but in Duckverse way. Sorry about this, but I haven't mastered portraits in human form yet, but I hope to learn. I thank you for your understanding.
Elizabeth Alexandra Mary as Elizabeth II born in 21 April 1926 in Royal Family called Windsor from father George VI and mother Margaret, Countess of Snowdon. She helped a lot as a driver during the Second World War and after the war she married in 1947 with Prince Philip, who is of Danish-Greek origin and became the Prince of Edinburgh. She became queen after her father's death and was crowned on June 2, 1953. She has four children with Philip, whose names are Charles, Anna, Andrew and Edward. She ruled Great Britain, Northern Ireland, as well as the British Commonwealth (Canada, Australia, New Zealand and other countries), and during her rule many former British colonies became independent. She experienced many changes while she ruled through various failures and successes of the United Kingdom and changed as many as 15 Prime Ministers of the United Kingdom and more than 170 Prime Ministers from the countries of the British Commonwealth.
Until now, she ruled for 70 years and managed to experience the Platinum Jubilee. She is on of the longest reingning monarchs of all time, as well as having reigned the longest of any English monarch in history. She visited almost all countries of the world, including communist countries, such as China and the former Yugoslavia. Howerer, although she contributed to the preservation of the British Kingdom, the British Empire saw its end. Also, unfortunately, numerous affairs took place at her court, starting with Charles' breakup with Princess Diana, Prince Andrew's affair, and the problems of her grandsons William and especially Harry. Not the mention the conspiracy theories surronding her and her court, but that's another story.
All in all, she preserved the reputation of her country and lived to a ripe old age. Her husband died in 2021, while she died on 8 September 2022 and was burried in Westminster Abbey in her father's chapel on 19 September.
After her, her son Charles will succeed as Charles III.
My opinion about her is irrelevant for now, but I certainly pay attention to her and let everyone who lives in England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and Commonwealth countries like Canada, Australia, New Zealand and other countries receive my condolences.
Yes, I drew her in duck anthropomorphic form, that is, in Duckverse, because I'm not sure what kind of animal she would be in Donald's universe, whether an eagle, an owl, a lioness or some other species, so I decided on a duck. Sorry about this. Yes, drew a redraw of her from her younger days.
Song about this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o6ZvylOSy5A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A-MVosjKkr4
Rest in peace to the soul of the queen and eternal glory to her and thank you for everything and may God forgive your sins, your majesty! Amen.

In 1947, India won its independence, and from the 1950s to 1980s, African colonies also fought for and won their independence. The last significant British colony, Hong Kong, was returned to China in 1997.
On February 6, 1952, after a long illness, King George VI of Great Britain and Northern Ireland dies in his sleep at the royal estate at Sandringham. Princess Elizabeth, the older of the king’s two daughters and next in line to succeed him, was in Kenya at the time of her father’s death; she was officially crowned Queen Elizabeth II on June 2, 1953, at age 27.

Queen Elizabeth's Personal Jewels to Be Displayed for Jubilee | PEOPLE.com
Tumblr media
Queen Elizabeth is giving us a rare peek into her own jewelry box — and it's quite the dazzling display!
As part of her historic Platinum Jubilee celebrations, the Queen is loaning several pieces of her personal jewelry to the Royal Collection Trust to exhibit at the various royal palaces this summer. An array of brooches, which the Queen often wears as a symbolic nod to her hosts during official Commonwealth tours, will be displayed alongside the Queen's Coronation Dress and Robe of Estate — as well as her famous Diamond Diadem — in the U.K.
Tumblr media
At Windsor Castle from July 7 to September 26, the Queen's majestic Norman Hartnell-designed Coronation Dress and her purple silk velvet Robe of Estate will be shown alongside five brooches that represent the emblems of the Commonwealth as a nod to the same floral emblems embroidered by hand onto the dress.
"I think it serves to underline the significance of emblematic design and iconography of the coronation dress, but at the same time it's really supporting that message of the Queen as head of the Commonwealth and the fact that she has really devoted so much of her reign to that," Caroline de Guitaut, deputy surveyor of the Queen's works of art and curator of the exhibition, tells PEOPLE.
Tumblr media
The brooches include the Canadian Maple-Leaf Brooch made by Asprey & Co, which was worn by Princess Elizabeth on her first visit to Canada in 1951. Later loaned to both Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall and Kate Middleton, the piece is instantly recognizable.
The Flame-Lily Brooch, which represents the national flower of Zimbabwe and Zambia, will be exhibited The brooch is particularly poignant, as it was pinned to the Queen's mourning clothes when she arrived back in Britain from Kenya after the news of her father's death in 1952.
Tumblr media
The Queen's Flame Lily Brooch
Tumblr media
Also in the collection is the Queen's Australian Wattle Brooch, presented to Elizabeth by the government and people of Australia on the monarch's first visit there in 1954. As one of the larger brooches in the Queen's collection, it is often worn for celebratory events, such as the wedding of Prince Charles and Camilla in 2005.
Tumblr media
And lastly, the vibrant Sri Lanka Brooch set — featuring pink, blue and yellow sapphires, garnets, rubies and aquamarine — which was gifted to the Queen in 1981, will sparkle on exhibit too.
Tumblr media
At Buckingham Palace, the Queen's famous Diamond Diadem — with 1,333 brilliant-cut diamonds, two rows of pearls and diamonds set in the form of a rose, a thistle and two shamrocks to represent England, Scotland and Ireland — will be on display alongside official portraits of The Queen taken by photographer Dorothy Wilding just weeks after the Accession. Inherited by Queen Victoria in 1821, the Queen regularly wears the impressive crown to the State Opening of Parliament.
Tumblr media
Alongside the historic crown will be the Queen's Delhi Durbar necklace, which she inherited in 1953, the year of her coronation. The spectacular necklace features nine emeralds originally owned by Queen Mary's grandmother, the Duchess of Cambridge, as well as an 8.8-carat diamond pendant cut from the Cullinan diamond – the largest diamond ever mined. The significant jewels will be on display from July 22 through to October 2 as part of the summer opening of the palace.
At the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh, from July 3 to September 25, visitors will be able see a display of outfits worn by Her Majesty on occasions to celebrate the Silver, Golden and Diamond Jubilees and gifts presented during official engagements in Scotland.
The Jubilee weekend, celebrating the Queen's record-breaking 70 years on the throne, kicks off on June 2 with Trooping the Colour, where the royal family is expected to make an appearance on the balcony of Buckingham Palace. The Queen is also expected to attend the Derby, one of her favorite horse race events, a concert at Buckingham Palace and the Platinum Jubilee Pageant, a carnival-style celebration during which many artists, including Ed Sheeran, will perform.

Queen Elizabeth II Dead or Related to New Prime Minister Truss?
Queen Elizabeth II Dead or Related to New Prime Minister Truss?
The Queen, who ascended the throne on 6 February 1952 following her father's death, King George VI, and was crowned on 2 June 1953, is the longest-reigning monarch in British history and the key to the unity of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth.
The BBC recalled that it had been 70 years since the Queen came to the throne in 1952 when Winston Churchill was prime minister. Queen Elizabeth II has appointed Britain's 15 prime ministers since 1955. Over the years, the Queen has become "the bedrock of the nation," steadfastly maintaining its image. She lived through the decline of the British Empire, stood up to family and national tragedy, and was hailed as the best person in Britain who could bite the bullet. Pastel dresses and colorful hats are her trademarks. In her Golden Jubilee speech in 2002, the Queen said she saw her role as "guiding the kingdom through changing times." These words suggest that the Queen has set herself a challenge: consistency and constancy, the critical attributes of her reign, will add to her image as a reliable and honest monarch.
Tumblr media
"London Bridge has fallen"! The end of the Queen's reign was a "painful" moment for Britain as a nation and a great test for Truss. The Queen has always played a role in helping the government to maintain the public identity and social stability, and the reforms planned by Truss after taking office will bring social impact. Now that the Queen is gone, the Truss government will lose a "stabilizer." British royal writer Catherine Pester told the BBC that "tectonic plates are shifting" and that Britain is "on the cusp of a new era."
The real crisis for Britain came after the death of the Queen. Mr. Johnson was ousted in scandals, and Ms.Truss, the new Conservative Party sweetheart, is widely disliked by the British public. Polls show 52 percent of Britons think Ms.Truss would be a terrible prime minister. In addition to widespread public disapproval, Ms.Truss will face Britain's biggest livelihood crisis in decades. With inflation running at more than 10%, Britons are at the peak of discontent. They have just endured a "summer of discontent," followed by a "winter of cold weather" and a tough choice between "feed or heat"—what a difficult situation for the new political chameleon, Ms.Truss.
Tumblr media
Truss criticized Britain's constitutional monarchy as a teenager, so she became more cautious about royal matters. The British media could link the slightest mistake to her previous remarks, which could impact her administration. The Queen's death will also make Truss's reign difficult. As for Truss, perhaps time will tell where she goes from here.
