it's not really what happens in canon as far as I can tell but I'm rotating the idea that when Chopper joins the crew and starts desperately people-pleasing and allowing himself to suffer thinking that's what it takes to be accepted and loved, something in Sanji goes "O h ." and he starts making an effort to show Chopper very clearly that the love from this crew is not conditional. and maybe a little bit (a lot), he's saying it all to make himself believe it, too.

ok, but what if henry also gathered a certain amount of followers who are also scientists?? his cultists kind of spread the god of science's word in blackfog and some people who are into this dark science thing are interested. and a fraction of those actually join the cult. henry has a ton of scientists in his cult, and most are into stuff that would make the lodgers look like a joke. he has cultists who can build monsters just like frankenstein but in a bolder, larger scale. he has cultists who straight up found ways to fuse dark magic and science.
those people see him as a mentor and god, and seek him for science-related advice as if he knew everything (and he knows, like, most of it. his dad gave him access to a lot of knowledge. and he manages to play it off what he doesn't know). they even make sacrifices to him.
henry's still got imposters syndrome, though.
-🕷️
I mean, being worshiped as a god when you really is just Some Dude who was lucky enough to be adopted by an eldritch god really could give anyone a nasty case of imposter’s syndrome. Considering the fact that Henry already has it? Oh boy--
But the thought of Henry slowly but surely managing to get actual mad scientists into his cult? The thought of Henry’s own cult just started as an expansion to his father’s cult because he isn’t really a god or an eldritch horror, but his followers are so devoted and slowly but surely they really start to believe that he is a god of science, change, and creation? His cultists spreading Henry’s every word and “preachings” and managing to recruit more mad scientists, either who fully join the cult or who generally just support the cult with money and donations? Henry watching as his cult grows stronger, more successful, darker, and much more bonded than the Society? His cultists really thinking he is an almighty god no matter what he tries to tell them, and Dadritch supporting it by practically granting Henry infinite knowledge to science and dark magic (to some extent, as I’m sure his head would implode at too much info)? Just the thought of Henry’s cultists being so much more extreme than the Lodgers; They are so devoted to Henry-- many of them end up in fights the moment someone else vaguely insults Henry and or science in general, and they are all so much stronger bonded to each other, not to mention how much more extreme they are with their experiments. Just... God, give me Henry being unsure about what to do or if he should stop them, only to realize that this... Is almost wanted he wanted with the Society. The Society is failing and he, worshiped as the god of creation, is starting anew.
ALso now I really want the Lodgers to meet Henry’s cult. God I really want to come up with a good cult name. GOD I WANT TO START DESIGNING HENRY’S CULT GARB JDSHJSDJDS
I absolutely love this. I love it so much. God, imagine if a Lodger hears about this cult at Blackfog and tries to check it out, just... ddhdhdhd <3

So, what happens when I decide to throw caution to the wind and mash together as many fucking Sonic Continuities as I possibly can? You get a big ass tangle of a family tree that needs to be split up into five separate images, that’s what.
It’s ugly, it’s unpolished, and I made it on a whim. Because the mental image wouldn’t leave me. And because I actually started developing this godforsaken nightmare of a family tree, born of merged continuities, headcanons, and sleep deprivation.
Now keep in mind that this thing is pure crack- it implies a world where Sonic eventually collapses from exhaustion of having to fight TWO Robotniks. It’s a mish mash of what-if’s, continuity mergers and personal ideas glued together. And I wanna stress it has nothing to directly do with my current setting- this is just like, The Path of Insanity.
Anyway, yeah. Against my better judgement I made notes for this insanity. Also, you may notice pictures of characters from other franchises being used as portraits for various characters. Those are basically faceclaims of sorts, meant as abstract representations rather than the literal idea of what they looked like... since, honestly, even I’M not cruel enough to inflict my ‘art’ on you.
Anyway, let’s get the ball rolling-
“Robotnikhotep”
-Robotnik Ancestor in ‘Mobigypt’. Was probably some big important muckity-muck.
“Julius Robotnikus”
-Probably Mobius’ answer to Caligula. His family eventually fell out of power and was forced to re-settle in what would eventually become Overland.
Ivo Kintobor
-Yeah, that whole ‘House of Ivo’ thing? This is the guy responsible. Most likely a douchenozzle, as there is a high concentration of that in the bloodline. Basically a minor warlord who unified a bunch of clans to form his own Kingdom, that was subsequently absorbed into Overland during the unification.
Brutus Kintobor
-Oh wow, a SKINNY Robotnik/Kintobor. This douche canoe attempted to conquer Angel Island for the Overland, but failed miserably. Sent back home in disgrace, a failure.
Gerald Robotnik
- Originally born Gerald Kintobor of the House of Ivo in Overland. He was more interested in science than politics, and after completing college he left that mess behind and immigrated to the United Federation. He changed his name to signify the break from his family history.
-Explored Angel Island in his youth, where he learned about Chaos Emeralds and the like from the various ruins there. He was even friends with then-guardian Janelle-Li.
-Started up Robotnik CORPS. He founded it as a way to disseminate his technology to the people of the UF and earn money to fund more experiments.
-You know the rest. The ARK, Maria, NIDS, Black Doom, Shadow, yadda-yadda-yadda.
Olga Robotnik
-Gerald’s wife. Duh.
-She met him while he lived in a spare room her father was renting out. She’d collect his rent. They grew close and eventually had kids and started a family.
-The shit this poor woman endured is amazing, but she managed to remain unbroken by it, and tried to remain close to her surviving grandchildren.
Grigory Robotnik
- The first son of Gerald. He wasn’t a genius, but he pursued a career in academics and became a doctor of physics. He had two children, Warren and Maria.
-After the ARK incident he became paranoid and accused the government of covering up what really happened. The obsession to uncover the truth destroyed his physical and mental health, and he died a shunned outcast ranting on pirated radio stations about various conspiracies.
-Died in a halfway house, but he managed to get ahold of Gerald’s diary before biting it. While he never got to use it to bring down GUN, it still paved the way for Eggman’s eventual use.
Amelia Robotnik
-Maria’s mother. After the ARK incident and the supposed death of her children, she fell into a deep depression and eventually committed suicide. In case you haven’t noticed, the story of the Robotnik family is depressing as fuck.
Warren Robotnik, ‘Warpnik’
-Maria’s brother. What a tweest!
-He was with her on the ARK, and demonstrated a similar scientific gift to his grandfather. He wasn’t close to Shadow the way Maria was.
-When the ARK was raided, he was captured and subjected to brainwashing treatments by GUN in the hopes of turning him into a loyal, in-house mad scientist. All it did was make him batshit crazy.
-He escaped some time during the Great War, and is now loose in Mobius, a lunatic geneticist fixated on continuing his grandfather’s ‘great work’... or at least his own warped perception of it.
Maria Robotnik
-You know her. You love her. Her life is a tragedy. She’s Maria! Nuff said. Years later, and she still weighs heavily on Shadow.
Ivo Kintobor
-And here is where things get a bit confusing! Ivo was born ‘Ivo Robotnik’, the second son of Gerald. Long story short, he was a douche more interested in politics and profit, and as such did not get along with his father, who bequeathed the family company to his younger brother.
-Despite this, Ivo SOMEHOW managed to reproduce. And when the ARK incident happened, he bought the government line hook line and sinker. He changed the family name back to Kintobor and moved everyone back to Overland to start anew.
-He’s like 50% responsible for Julian winding up the way he did.
-And yes- he DOES want to bulldoze the puppy orphanage to create a combination oil rig/toxic waste dump.
-Was murdered by Julian, who disguised it as an accident.
Lydia Kintobor
-ICE BABY ICE.
-Julian and Colin’s mom.
-She 100% supported her husband’s douchery, and was an active participant in tormenting her secondborn son in the hopes of ‘breaking’ him out of being a genius.
-Killed in the same ‘accident’ that took her husband’s life.
Colin Kintobor Sr.
-Born in the United Federation, but moved to the Overland as a child and grew up there.
-Major league Nationalist and Human Supremacist. Prick.
-Hated Julian basically forever and was encouraged by his parents to do so. He became their ‘golden child’ and was pushed to succeed at everything.
-Pursued a career in politics, law, and the military, and eventually served as a general in the Great War.
-Was eventually murdered by his own brother
Miriam Kintobor
-Colin’s first wife, via arranged marriage.
-She was pretty much his opposite, yet despite that fact the two came to genuinely love one another.
-Died giving birth to their son. Have I mentioned the Kintobor/Robotnik family history is a trainwreck yet?
Angela Kintobor
-The second wife of Colin. She probably met him while serving as a military functionary during the Great War. She is also the mother of Hope Kintobor.
-Other than that, I got nothin’. She likely died when Hope was young, by way of Swatbot invasion. Seriously, do NOT become a Kintobor Love Interest.
Colin “Snively” Kintobor Jr.
-You know him, you hate him! It’s the Snivster, bay-bee!
-His mother died giving birth to him. His dad blamed him for this. You can guess the rest.
-You know most of the story- crappy childhood, admired his uncle Julian, helped him take over the Kingdom of Acorn, spent a decade as his punching bag, etc etc.
-After seemingly offing Julian during Endgame, he briefly took over the Robotnik Empire.... and promptly lost it to Naugus, forcing him to flee for his life. In exchange for information about Robotropolis’ defenses, King Acorn spared his life but sentenced him to be imprisoned forever.
-Was busted out by a returned Julian so that his uncle would be able to properly ‘thank’ him for losing his empire. Helped the FFs to escape Robotnik’s revenge, and after spending time bumming around with them (and hating it) decided to throw in his lot with Crazy Uncle Ivo.
-He’s regretted it ever since... though he sticks with him because its either Ivo or Julian, and Julian will ensure his death is cruel, messy, and lingers for years to come.
Hope Kintobor
-The second child of Colin Kintobor. She was born during the later years of the Great War and spent much of her early life living in siege conditions as Overland tried and failed to stop the advancement of Robotnik.
-Eventually she witnessed the death of her father and remaining family at the hands of Robotnik before being saved by Sonic. She had an extended stay in Knothole afterwards, where she slowly learned that much of her people’s views of Mobians was innacurate.
-She eventually moved to the United Federation as a ward of GUN, serving as the technology expert for Team Dark. She is close to all of them.
-Seeks to redeem the name of her family so that it’s legacy won’t be one of bloodshed, conquest and madness. She’s got a waaaays to go, to put it mildlry.
-Despite everything she still cares about her awful, awful half-brother.
Dr. Julian Robotnik
-Had a REALLY goddamned crappy....well, life, basically. Take my word for it.
-Has basically murdered his entire immediate family by this point.
-Prior to the Great War he aided the Overlander Ministry of Conflict in toppling the legitimate government of the Kingdom of Amunopolis (Aleena’s Kingdom), forcing it’s royal family to flee to the Kingdom of Acorn and re-settle under new identities, with crown princess becoming ‘Bernadette Hedgehog’. That’s right- he’s indirectly responsible for Sonic existing.
-Blah blah blah evil experiments blah blah war crimes blah blah sentenced to be executed by Overlander government during the Great War and blah blah blah coup.
-Took over a large swathe of Mobius and expanded to conquer more, and for a time seemed like he might conquer the entire planet. The Robotnik Empire is.... not a fun place. Then or now.
-Then Sonic and the FF’s happened. Then Endgame happened, and he was... indisposed for a while, leading to his empire being diminished. While he has returned, he has suffered numerous setbacks since then, and the Robotnik Empire is now greatly diminished from its peak.
-That being said, he still rules a pretty big part of the planet, and is still the biggest danger to the world at present.
-Hates his cousin Ivo.
-REALLY goddamn hates That Hedgehog.
Laura Kintobor
-That’s Doctor Laura Kintobor (nee Ellison) to you, buster.
-She and Julian both worked as scientists with Overland’s science ministry, where they met and befriended one another. She eventually managed to coax Julian out of his shell, and their friendship bloomed into a romance, which led to the two marrying.
-She worked in the organic sciences division and was an expert on biology and zoology. In contrast to most scientists, she was very much an outdoorswoman. Even managed to convince Julian to partake.
-Much like her unfortunate sister-in-law, she died in childbirth... giving birth to a stillborn daughter.
-Yeah, this shit is grim.
Theodore Robotnik
-Third son of Gerald. Blatantly named in reference to Theodore Roosevelt, who was used as a visual reference for Eggman.
-Basically a professional beancounter who later inherited Robotnik CORPS. He chose to stick with his original name even after the ARK incident, and struggled to keep Robotnik CORPS afloat in the immediate aftermath of the incident.
-Set up a trust fund for his son Ivo, and tried his best to raise him to be a contributing member of society.
-Sufficed to say, that didn’t work. If he’s still alive, he has a REALLY tense relationship with his son.
-Named his son after his older brother as a passive-aggressive act of spite for abandoning the ‘Robotnik’ name.
Dolores Robotnik
-Mother of Ivo. She was a professor of chemistry who decided to put her career on hold in order to be homemaker.
-Was much closer to her son than Theodore was, and often wound up having to play peacemaker between the two. ESPECIALLY during Ivo’s tumultous teenage years.
-Sufficed to say she is not exactly pleased with how he turned out, assuming she’s still alive even.
Dr. Ivo “Eggman” Robotnik
-HE IS THE EGGMAN. HE’S GOT THE MASTER PLAN! Really, do you NEED to know any more?
-Well, okay, you do. He was born very shortly before the ARK incident and never knew his grandfather.
-His childhood wasn’t horrible, but it was rough in areas due to his high intelligence making things more difficult for him than they should of be. Loads of disagreements with his dad over pursuing science. Spent years plagued by the derogatory name of ‘Eggman’ due to his weight problems.
-You know how you fantasize about ruling the world as a kid? He never really left that stage of things.
-He initially worked as a research scientist in the fields of AI and energy. During the Great War he was approached by GUN to develop weapons for them. His research would go on to form the basis of the robotic soldiers later used by them in the Robotnik war.
-Began his plot to take over Mobius during his time there, and secretly began to appropriate resources and machines to build a hidden base on the distant South Island. Eventually his schemes were discovered by GUN, but he fled.
-While his cousin conquered portions of Mobius elsewhere, Eggman began his long term Death Egg scheme as a means of conquering Mobius in one fell swoop with the aid of the Chaos Emeralds.
-You can guess how it goes from here- he encounters Sonic on South Island and in the Scrap Brain Zone and is defeated, thus setting the tone for MANY other defeats in the future. He eventually took on the name ‘Dr. Eggman’ as a way to differentiate himself from his cousin, and to make the insult that dogged his life into a name to be feared ala ‘Penguin’.
-When his cousin Julian was seemingly killed and the Robotnik Empire in dissarray, Eggman started new bids to take over the world. He established the Metropolis Zone as his ‘capital city’ and founded the Egg Army to help supplement his Badnik Horde. The Eggman Empire now exists as a terrorist army at the beck and call of Dr. Eggman, though he’s still got a ways to go.
-Has four sons by three different women. Slut.
???
-Haven’t got a name for her yet. She was a random girl that a college age Ivo knocked up, which putty much put an end to her collegiate ambitions. She gave birth to two sons, one of whom she bitterly named ‘Ivan’ as a reminder of his origins after failing to get child support out of her babydaddy. She re-married and is currently leading a comfortable enough life. Humors her son because she knows it annoys his biological father.
Ivan Eggman
-The oldest of Eggman’s sons. In his mid 30s or so. Scientifically gifted, as his father was.
-Has numerous, numerous issues pertaining to his stepfather, a hard and strict man with little toleration for nonsense.
-Idolizes his biological father and desperately wants to be acknowledged by him, even changing his original surname to ‘Eggman’. Eggman the 1st was NOT amused.
-Eventually founded a company, Eggman Industries, and grew rich rapidly. Settled by the Bygone Islands where he pursues life as a ‘villain’ now, though really he’s more like a public nuisance than anything.
-Honestly he’s basically living a ‘second childhood’ of sorts using his scientific know-how and riches, and has vowed to one day impress his father and earn his acknowledgement. As you can imagine, it is.... not working out at all, given that he’s even more of a goober than his pop.
-Ironically, he isn’t naturally bald- he SHAVES his head.
Steve
-Yeah, he ain’t a robot here- Steve is the organic, younger (by about a minute) twin brother of Ivan.
-Utterly unconcerned with science or any of that jazz. He’s basically a bohemian beach bum, complete with californian accent- he spends much of his time surfing and earning cash from side jobs.
-Really mellow and easy-going, and doesn’t really dwell on stuff.
-Utter himbo.
Mrs. Robotnik
- Ex-Wife of Ivo Robotnik. Haven’t given it too much thought, but she and Ivo met while working in acadamia, and eventually married.
-Initially the relationship was pretty solid, and they even had a child together. However things swiftly deteriorated between the two as Ivo’s immaturity and increasing anger at the world strained their relationship, along with him being a lousy parent to their son. She eventually divorced his ass.
-After going through a rough patch with her son, she has begun to re-connect with him after his years a delinquent, and now happily supports his endeavors.
Ivo Robotnik Jr.
-Middle son of Dr. Eggman. Had a nonexistant relationship with his father while growing up, which combined with the divorce eventually turned him into a juvenile delinquent.
-He roamed with a biker gang for a while, and prefers to be called ‘Junior’ rather than ‘Ivo’.
-Fell in with Breezie for a while, the both of them unaware of the other’s connection to Eggman. They eventually went their separate ways once Junior began to turn over a new leaf. He still carries a torch for her, though is painfully aware it’d never work out. Their relationship is... complicated, these days.
-Has since become a software security engineer, making a living providing Anti-Eggman/Robotnik software to companies.
Lindsey Thorndyke
-A famed actress. She and Ivo had a drunken tryst at a wrap party where he’d been invited to act as a consultant on scientific accuracy. To avoid scandal she informed her husband, and they passed off the baby as their own.
-What more do you want. Its LINDSEY.
Chris Thorndyke
-The youngest son of Ivo Robotnik. Spent much of his life completely unaware of his true parentage.
-Eh, what can I say, I kind like the theory of him actually being a Robotnik in some capacity or the next.
-When he was a boy, he befriended Sonic and his friends and even hosted them during the days when Eggman’s schemes for global conquest caused him to haunt Station Square for a while.
-Admired his grandfather Chuck and pursued science to be like him, studying physics and engineering.
-Thanks to his mom he’s something of a film buff.
-In college he learned the truth of his heritage. This has put a strain on his relationship with his parents.
Francis Kintobor
-The youngest of Gerald’s sons. Pursued a career as a schoolteacher. While he changed his name in the aftermath of the ARK incident as his older brother Ivo had, he chose to make a small joke at his brother’s expense over the ludicrousness of the name change by naming his own son ‘Ovi Kintobor’.
-Named after Francis Mao, aka That Guy Who Made That One Comic Adaptation From 1991.
Elizabeth Kintobor
-Dr. Ovi Kintobor’s mother. A career veterinarian with a strong love of animals. That’s about it.
Ovi Kintobor
- Grew up on Westside Island, among Mobians. Had a pretty happy and contented childhood, and like many of the other various members of the Kintobor/Robotnik clan developed a pronounced interest and skill in science at a young age.
-Developed a particular interest in researching Chaos Emeralds.
-A Concientious Objector, he served as a medic during the Great War.
-Deeply, deeply shamed by the actions of his more notorious cousins, he has essentially hidden himself from the world to pursue his research and evade their notice, while helping against them in whatever way he can.
-Has secretly transported people threatened by his cousins to safer places, and once caused a mass sabotage of their respective robotic forces through the ‘Nicenik Virus’.
-An ally of the Freedom Fighters.
-Deeply distrusts GUN (which frankly isn’t a bad call).
-Bit of a hippy, but really is a genuinely nice guy who wants to help others through science.
-In some villages he is known as ‘Mr. Tinker’.

Family - Part 2
Itara’s eyes widened as they reached the expansive fence, stretching as far as she could see to either side, completely encasing a large, beautiful estate and the miles of yard around it.  They were quickly buzzed in by the standing security at the gate and the couple led her and her robotic companion inside.  A long, wide gravel road stretched from street to steps, bordered by freshly cut, vivid green grass on either side with long, colorful gardens further back.  Sparkling, flat, almost crystal-like rocks shifted under their feet as they walked and rows of tiny, metal fences separated the trail from the grass, keeping it from growing out over the path.  Small, fence-posted electric lanterns lined and lit their path as the day grew into night.
As they neared the manor, Itara felt dwarfed by the towering columns around the front door, and even the door, itself, felt scaled for a giant rather than a normal mobian.  The deep red, mahogany of the door contrasted the bright, almost shining white marble of the frame that encased it and the entire outer shell. Soft, orange lights glowed out from the massive windows, casting great shadows on the wall gardens below them. Intricate designs were carved in the door and columns and even along the bottom edges of the outside walls.  As the heavy door slowly swung open, revealing a grand, brightly lit entrance, Itara turned towards her companion for the first time during their walk for assurance.  Compared to their shack of a living arrangement, the grandeur of the manor felt uncomfortable and almost worrying.
Did her namesake truly live in such comfort before Robotnik?
To a degree, Itara grew suddenly jealous of the girl. She was a part of an actual God, yet her entire existence had been cruel and harsh from the beginning, meanwhile this… mobian child lived in the lap of ultimate luxury.  While she had never felt anything for the girl whose body she was forced into before, neither resenting nor pitying her, a new form of anger welled up inside her.  She deserved to be kidnapped.  But her ears flattened at the thought.  She hadn’t even taken on the girl’s memories when she took over her body, she only managed to grasp a name.  She didn’t know anything about her.  Shaking her head, she reminded herself that all the mortals deserved to be punished simply for what they did to her father, let alone anything else they may have done. She wasn’t going to show sympathy to one mobian child.  In fact, that girl should be relieved to live on as the daughter of a God.
Nodding to herself about this, she returned her gaze to the two in front of her again, who appeared to be watching her, waiting for something.  She had been so distracted by her own thoughts, she hadn’t heard anything they’d said for several minutes.  Had they asked her a question?  Looking to RK for an answer, he simply shook his head.
“You weren’t listening, were you?”  Her face flushed ever so slightly.  This was all the answer he needed, apparently, as he repeated their question, “they asked if you were hungry or if you’re still full on ice cream.”
“O-oh… r-right… y-yes,” Itara stammered, looking off to the side to regain her composure, also to assess the state of her stomach.  She didn’t really need to eat often so technically she was fine on the ice cream for a while… but she grew curious what sort of fancy food they ate. Finally looking towards them again, she stammered out a small answer in affirmation, letting them know she was a tad hungry, since it was close to dinner. The father nodded and turned to the mother, letting her know he would be in the kitchen and she should show Itara up to her old room.  The woman easily nodded and offered a surprisingly warm smile to the young girl, holding a hand out for her to take.
Itara shifted uncomfortably, but reluctantly held her hand out for the woman to take, getting pulled along almost immediately.  She glanced back towards RK, but he was already following closely after them, not wanting Itara out of his eyesight so soon. The woman seemed far more chatty than her husband, though Itara couldn’t gauge if that was normal behavior for her or if it was simply from her ‘daughter’s’ return.  She yammered the entire way up the grand staircase and all the way down the carpeted hall to a carefully decorated door with Itara’s name etched finely into a plaque above the door.  The door, itself, was painted in pure white though the frame around it was intricately carved and painted a soft blue.
Kelly hesitated as she reached for the door, seeming apprehensive about entering, growing quiet for the first time since their meeting. But with a quick glance towards Itara, the warm smile returned to her face and she turned the knob to swing it open.
“Welcome home, kiddo.”
The room inside was decorated in carefully coordinated blues, silvers, and whites, from the color of the carpet, to the bed sheets, to the curtains; even the child-intended decorations hanging on the walls were perfectly matched to the room’s color scheme.  The room was much larger than the one Itara had back at the base; in fact, Itara suspected, it was likely larger than the entire base by itself.  There was an open door on the far left wall that Itara could vaguely recognize as a bathroom and another closed door on the back wall.  Seeing as they were the only doors connected to the room, Itara assumed it was the closet.
The bed was huge, rounded, and up against the middle of the right wall, with silver lace draped around the frame and a small set of steps leading up to the bed.  Across from the bed, in the far left corner, was a long, white, metal desk with a computer so large, with so many screens, Itara assumed some sort of mad scientist had taken it over.  She wondered how it compared to their upgraded computer at home and if it’d be of any use for repairing her robot companions.  But furthering Itara’s theory of a mad scientist having taken over the room, were the several, long, very full—yet very neatly color-coded and organized—bookshelves along all three of the walls.  Itara was now fully convinced that her namesake was some kind of gigantic nerd.
Towards the center of the room was the only semblance of anything child-like in the entire room.  Laid out on a huge, thick blue rug were a small couch, two beanbag chairs, and a TV with a large stand that, upon closer inspection, had several different gaming consoles neatly packed behind glass doors.  It was only then that Itara realized a large section of one of the bookcases was dedicated entirely to video games for the different consoles and below the games were several rows of movies and series.  As Itara scanned over the names, she realized she actually recognized a lot of the titles of the movies and series as many of them were ones she watched on TV at home whenever she had the free time.  It almost made her want to laugh, but at the same time… did this mean she could get caught up on all the missed episodes?!
“So, uh… does any of this, ya know, bring any memories back?”
Itara was caught-off guard by the sudden question, having nearly forgotten about the other two present, but turned her gaze back towards the asker.  Itara could read her a little too easily and had to take a moment to consider her response. The mobian looked hopeful, but weary, Itara could easily see the years of restless nights in her tired face and greying colors in her fur.  Dampened eyes sparked anew with Itara’s appearance, though the young time traveler couldn’t fully assess the correct answer.  If she lied and said ‘yes’, it could draw the parents closer to her and thus make them easier to use, but it could also cause problems if they found out she was lying.  On the other hand, if she told the truth, it could create a new hopelessness and make their behavior erratic and unreadable, but would keep her safe against any perceived ‘strange behavior.’  She wasn’t sure.  She needed more information.
“I’m… afraid not,” she finally responded, looking away, “but… perhaps with t-time.”  She would stay the safe route for the time being, make no promises right away but allude to a possible, hopeful future.  She wasn’t even sure if she wanted to stick around these people or not, she didn’t want to start playing ‘daughter’ only to escape later, it would cause them to search for her and cause unnecessary risk.
“Right… yeah, of course,” Kelly gave a light, forceful laugh, “I guess it’d be too much to expect results that quickly.  But hey,” her voice suddenly perked up again, “maybe doing some stuff you used to will give you a better jog than just seeing your room.  More than anything, it’s impossible to forget your dad’s cooking!  One bite of that and your brain’ll be back to normal in no time!”  Her laugh this time was haughty and amused and both Itara and RK studied her curiously at the drastic, sudden change.  They exchanged glances before returning their attention to her, Itara cautiously agreeing before they returned downstairs to see how dinner was coming along and explore more of the house.
Kelly turned her questioning towards RK on the way down, hoping to get more information about him and his rescue mission, but was only met with short, vague responses that gave little of use.  Though it seemed to spark a particular curiosity about the pirate-dressed ‘echidna’ that RK had a much harder time shaking.  While Mira had proven the cautious, detail-oriented one of the two, it seemed Kelly had an unshakable determination once her curiosity was piqued.  RK was unsure which was more troublesome.  They both seemed quite stubborn.  He had to wonder if Itara had somehow gotten some traits from the family, and the body, she inhabited.
They had barely made it through the sitting room before Mira found them again to inform them that dinner was ready.  RK began preparing an excuse not to eat, without sounding rude or suspicious, as that wasn’t an upgrade he nor Itara had time nor resources for just yet, but was soon caught by a new question from Mira.
“So… are you upgraded enough to eat?”
He stared RK down as Itara and Kelly turned towards them in shock, Itara not expecting him to catch on so quickly and the question flying right over Kelly’s head.  “What do you mean, ‘upgraded’?”
“I mean, he’s a robot.  Or an android, at least,” Mira explained flatly, looking to his confused wife before turning back to RK, “am I wrong?”
The room became dead silent as RK considered the answer, meeting the interrogator’s gaze with an equally flat stare.  He had hoped that wouldn’t come up, but Mira seemed much smarter than RK had given him credit for before.  He wondered if he would become a problem at any point.
“You are correct,” he responded at length, catching a gasp from Kelly, though Itara went to move beside him, “I am an android, but that’s best left between us.”  While he didn’t want to have to fight anyone present if he didn’t have to, he made it clear that the last statement was a threat, rather than a suggestion.  It wasn’t information that needed leaking.
Mira gave a short huff at the threat, folding his arms and staring the robot down, but eventually conceded, “very well.”  He then turned back around and wrapped an arm around Itara on his way, pulling her back towards the table, “you must be starving, let’s get some food in you, alright?”  He was determined to ignore the robot now and instead turned his full attention to Itara, who shuffled uncomfortably at the situation.
The room remained silent as they sat down and began eating, but Itara eventually looked up again, asking, “How could you tell?”
Mira looked up from his plate and towards the little girl between him and his wife, “tell what?”
“That RK was a robot.”
“I repair them, it wasn’t hard to work out.”
“You do?!”
“Yes,” though he seemed concerned with this question, “do you… really not remember?”  Itara’s head only tilted to the side, causing him to sigh and set his silverware down, “I repair and build basic robots for everyday use, you were training to do the same, to take over for me someday.  The day you went missing, in fact, I’d sent you into town to pick some pieces up for me… but you never came home.”  His ears flattened at the memory and Itara felt a hand on her shoulder, looking over she faced Kelly’s saddened stare.
“Your dad spent so long looking for you, kiddo.  You have no idea how bad he felt… so don’t… blame him… okay?”
Itara was taken aback at the sudden atmosphere, looking between the two, and before she could stop herself, found the words, “I’d never blame you…,” slipping from her mouth.   Her own eyes widened at the unexpected statement and quickly turned them down to her plate, “I-I mean… i-it…”  She could feel all three sets of eyes on her as she poked at her food, searching for the correct response.  She absolutely could not get emotionally involved with these people, she had to keep a relative distance.  “Robotnik just… he’s the one to… to blame… it’s not like you could… see the future,” she offered.  That was it. That was her drawn line.  Her real dad could see the future, the past, the possibilities… this was not her dad, this was not her family.  Looking up again, she smiled, “you aren’t a… time traveler, after all.”
The air remained strained for a short time afterwards, despite Itara’s attempts to quell it, but after they finished dinner and were sitting, making small talk, the awkwardness that hung in the air finally dissolved. Mira and Kelly continued questioning Itara on her past, what she could remember, and Itara continued taking real situations either out of context or twisting them to make them sound… less God-influenced.  Eventually, the conversation fell on her education and she was quickly reminded about the entire point of the earlier shopping trip as her posture dropped and her ears flattened.
“Right… I need to start school soon,” she mumbled, crossing her arms and glaring towards RK, who only shrugged.
“Start?  You aren’t in school already?” Mira exclaimed, clearly shocked.
“W-well… n-no… not… er, exactly?”
“I didn’t think it safe for her to be in the public eye for too long, all things considered,” RK offered, catching Mira’s attention. “But she,” he looked towards the pouting girl before nearly grinning, “expressed interest in attending school recently, so I was looking into the possibilities.”  Itara’s glare was hard to miss, but he only found it slightly entertaining.  She couldn’t exactly argue, it could raise too many questions they couldn’t answer right now and she knew it.
“Well, we’re going to get right on that, then,” Mira stated, looking back at Itara, “I’ll get you enrolled in the best school around here, don’t you worry.”  Itara only shrunk further.  Fantasitc. Please, please Solaris, let her powers return soon!  “With that in mind,” Mira suddenly added, turning back towards RK again, “I believe it’d be best if Itara stayed here, with us, from now on.  I refuse to let my baby girl out of my sight again.  So either I come stay with you, or she stays here.”  It didn’t sound like he was willing to discuss the matter and his mind was made up, but Itara expressed immediate concern over the idea.  She wasn’t sure she wanted to stay somewhere so unfamiliar, nice as it was, but her arguments were shot down quickly.  RK, on the other hand, remained silent as he considered it. Well, he had already looked into this possibility.  He was prepared to deal with this.
“Very well-”
“RK?”
“But, I’d like to keep my eye on her, as well.  I’d also like to make sure nothing happens to her again.”
Mira considered it, eyeing him, “you’re surprisingly attached for a robot.”
“I’ve heard this.”  Usually from a particular doll.  But he wouldn’t budge on the matter, not only had Solaris, himself, asked him to keep an eye on Itara, he had long since decided he would never allow harm to befall her again.  Not from Robotnik, not from Mephiles, not from Shadow, not even Solaris.  This mobian family knew so little about the enemies Itara really had, Robotnik was child’s play in comparison.
The topic was debated for several, long minutes, but the two eventually reached an agreement.  Itara would be staying there, and, while RK would not, he would visit her regularly to make sure she was safe.  RK promised to bring her things over to the manor before returning home for evening.  Itara wasn’t sure how she felt about the idea, but conceded after her arguments continued to fall on deaf ears.  RK and Mira hashed out further details while Kelly pulled Itara away to talk to her, or rather, to try and calm some of her worries.
“This must be a lot for you to take in, I’m sure,” she offered, crouching down beside the young hedgehog, “but those two care a lot about you, trust me, so no matter where you’re at, you’ll be safe.  I know you know this.”  She smiled and reached up, rubbing the girl’s head, “we’re so glad to have you home, kiddo.  If there’s anything you need at all, just let us know, okay?  Anything.”
Itara stared at her, continuously confused and unsure how to respond to anything, but offered a slow nod.  She wasn’t sure what to make of anything, or how to handle the situation, but maybe a good night’s sleep was all she needed.  But would she be able to sleep in such a strange place?  Well, she’d certainly slept in worse places.  Even an unfamiliar, massive, silk bed was an improvement over the original timeline.  More than anything, though, she wasn’t fond of the idea of being so far from RK. Kipper she could just have him bring for her, but RK needed to stay at the base with Sparky.
Once RK and Mira had debated all they could and decisions were finally made, RK dropped Itara’s newly bought clothes off in her new room before heading out.  Itara followed him to the door, making sure he grabbed Kipper for her and he was properly connected to her phone in case anything happened, then watched him take off across the path.  But as his long, furry tail disappeared out of her sight, worry spread through her again. She couldn’t keep track of anything, there were no warning signs of things to come, anything could happen at any point and not only would she never see it coming, but she wouldn’t be able to fix or avoid it.  As her thoughts ran away with her, a hand on her shoulder jolted her back to the present and she looked up, meeting Mira’s gaze.
“Come back inside, standing out in the cold like this will get you sick.”
Itara wasn’t even sure she was capable of getting sick as she never had before, but nodded and followed him back to the sitting room. Kelly was lounging across one of the couches, having changed into a far more comfortable long t-shirt and pulled out her phone to mess with.  Itara decided to walk around the room to inspect it more as Mira went over to argue with Kelly about her lack of pants, though it sounded like they’d been through the conversation many times before and were going through a predetermined script rather than a real argument.  Itara ignored them and walked over to the large, empty fireplace, staring at the pristine stones that showed no sign of previous use.
Of course, it was the end of summer and the sun had been shining far brighter than ever before, so a fire was wholly unnecessary, but the fireplace almost looked newly built rather than unused for a season.
“Are you cold?  I could light a fire if you’d like.”
The comment caught Itara off-guard again as she looked over, “o-oh, no… I just… it… looks new?  Unused?”
Kelly laughed, an unexpected reaction for Itara, “that’s because your dad needs everything in a perfect, pristine condition at all points ever.  Even the fireplace gets regularly scrubbed.  One thing amiss and he loses his shit.”
“Language,” Mira hissed, but turned his attention back to Itara, “I do like things very clean, though.  Luckily, the sun has been so warm this year we haven’t needed much heating even at night.”
“The Sun God’s either feeling temperamental or in a particularly good mood this year,” Kelly commented, getting a small smile from Itara as she turned back towards the fireplace to hide her grin.  The three sat up talking until RK returned to drop off Itara’s things, Itara grabbing Kipper quickly as the robot took her small bag of items up to her new room.  Kelly studied the doll curiously when she noticed the girl squeezing it so tightly and wasted little time in prodding.  Or calling it creepy.  Itara just half-laughed.
“This is Kipper.  He’s also my …dear friend,” she explained, giving the doll a tight squeeze, mentally asking him to behave until she could explain the situation to him, hoping he would hear it.
“You’ve made some strange friends, Itara.”
Itara only smirked and followed RK back to the door, silently questioning him about Metal Sonic, though he quickly assured her that everything was fine back at the base.  It seemed the other damaged robot was still a long ways to waking.  Once everything was finalized and confirmed, RK made his exit once more and Itara decided she wanted some time alone and headed for her new bedroom.  Being as it was late enough, she bid her ‘parents’ goodnight and quickly retreated to the large bedroom, locking the door and climbing up onto the far side of the bed.  As soon as she did so, the red gem attached to Kipper began glowing and the little doll floated up out of her arms, his lifeless eyes gaining some form of rejuvenation.
“So, what’s goin’ on, brat?  Mama Bear said you’d explain.”
Itara hushed him, but then went into a quiet explanation of the situation, not wanting the two mobians to overhear their conversation and catch on.  The doll went silent for some time after she finished, considering it carefully before grinning a fang-filled grin, “Oh, so that’s it, huh?  Well this ought to be entertaining, then.”
The doll explored the room, Itara joining him after a moment, as they looked around to get a better idea of the girl who once lived there.  Even though she had been gone so many years, someone had kept the room in peak condition and not a single spider’s web was to be found in even the most hidden of corners, amazing Itara.  There would be a lot to learn about this family, but first she needed to decide how deep she even wanted to go with this.  Even if they could be useful to her, somehow, how well would she be able to keep up this ruse?  Finally grabbing Kipper and setting her phone on one of the nightstands beside the bed, she crawled under the heavy blankets and curled up with the doll, drifting through her thoughts and the day’s events until she finally drifted off to sleep.
