Some books to get you started with Satanism (that aren't LaVey's bible)

Please note that none of these are simple "Satanism 101" titles. I don't really believe there is such a thing, at least not for me. However there is a good reason for each one being on the list, which I will explain. There also won't be any magic or witchcraft recommendations on this list, because while magic is absolutely compatible with Satanism, Satanism is a religion and witchcraft is a practice. I may update this list periodically, so if you reblog or save this post, check back in on it once in a while.

Paradise Lost by John Milton. I'd argue this text is one of the closest things Satanism has to "scripture," if there is a Satanic canon then Milton is absolutely a part of it. It can be a bit of a tricky read but it's a beautiful poem loaded with imagery and metaphor to feed the soul. If the style is a struggle for you to read, I'd recommend listening to an audio version, it's very beautiful when read aloud.

Revelations from the Christian Bible. Yes, I'm serious. If you, as a Satanist, are going to read any part of the Bible, make it Revelations. It's poetic and esoteric and full of references to Satan and the demonic.

Inferno by Dante Alighieri. The one might surprise some people, as Satan absolutely isn't depicted in a flattering light in it. However, Inferno has had a surprising amount of influence on the Christian understanding of Hell and the demonic, which is part of why I feel it is valuable, as Satanism is derived from Christianity. Many stereotypes about what one may expect when one gets to hell comes from this book. Furthermore, it's just a fun read.

Origins of Satan by Elaine Pagels. This one is a historical study of Satan as a religious figure, and I think it ought to be required reading for anyone getting into Satanism. Satan isn't just a vague or meaningless deity, he has been weaponized by Christianity throughout the centuries to target very specific groups of people for specific reasons. If you are to take on the mantle of Satanist, I recommend understanding what sort of legacy you're associating yourself with. You are becoming an adversary to God - but what, to the Christian eye, makes one an enemy?

A.K.I. Birthday Commentator Audio in SF6, a Rant, some Copium, and perhaps Additional F.A.N.G Content in Future DLC. LONG Post!!

A.K.I. Birthday Commentator Audio

From the sounds of it, I don’t think a lot of English speaking players use the commentator audio in SF6. If they did, they would’ve posted about the special commentary about A.K.I.’s birthday on Twitter. Even EventHubs didn’t mention about the special commentary:

Truth be told, I actually heard the English commentary version more than a month prior to A.K.I.’s birthday, so back in early October then. I extracted and search through audio files within the AKI patch. The time when I found it, I honestly thought that it’s already available in-game if you switch the commentary audio on, but that’s really not the case. This particular line can only be heard on A.K.I.’s birthday. Another thought that came to mind when I first listened to this audio was, “WHEN is AKI’s birthday?” A month later we all found out that it’s 11/11.

-RANT TIME-

Everything about that special birthday audio for AKI sounded nice and lovely until the part with “…she MAY end up killing him (FANG) herself.” I know it’s been foreshadowed in AKI’s World Tour dialogue and how FANG had to kill his closest Nguuhao brothers for his first assassin job in the Toxicity story, but damn, it’s a reminder that AKI’s happiness (and mine too 😭😭) MAY eventually have a grim ending. After listening to that audio, it prompted me to write these posts a long while ago:

I much prefer the Japanese commentator audio because it said that “AKI almost poisons FANG” rather than “she MAY end up killing him herself” like in the English one. It’s far less doom and gloom in the Japanese version. Plus, FANG is already immune to poison lol.

Honestly, I’m happy that “almost” no one heard the English commentator audio on AKI’s birthday and Eventhubs never even mentioned it. I can imagine the barrage of dumb comments from F.A.N.G haters wanting him dead. Come on, give A.K.I. a break on her birthday. Telling her to kill F.A.N.G, the most important person in her life, would make her truly upset.

Now the Copium

Shortly after finding that audio, I kinda formed a headcanon-pseudo fanfic to make myself feel better. I don’t normally make these kinds of things because I generally just stick to canon…but also I lack creativity when it comes to story telling. Anyway, this was what I wrote:

“I hope FANG stays a coward. The day when AKI and FANG must face each other and FANG finds out that AKI finally surpasses him, he’ll plead for his life in front of AKI. AKI will say that she’d never want to kill him anyway and they could live happily together. FANG says he’ll do whatever AKI wishes. AKI says there’s no need and they should live as equals…but she has one request. The scene changes where AKI is in a Victorian style cafe and FANG is the sophisticated stylish butler with a monocle serving AKI tea and desserts. AKI claps in excitement like a little girl.”

And of course, I had to draw this idea because I thought it would be cute. A lot of people have seen it already on AKI’s birthday:

This was the result of making my little made-up scenario. The best thing about it was Street Fighter Official retweeted this art. It’s like they’re validating it or something lol. It’s kinda ironic really. Me hearing that birthday audio more than a month prior, and then me drawing my fantasy picture for AKI’s birthday and Street Fighter Official retweeting it. It feels like poetic justice. I know this is reaching here, but I think the social media staff saw it as AKI’s longing to have a truly happy moment with FANG. Perhaps to the staff that this image, my very own coping fantasy, closely aligns with what AKI truly wanted. It’s like I am A.K.I. or A.K.I. is me. Lol. There were better, more popular art that came out on her birthday, but they often leave out on what’s most dear to AKI. Though there were also a few birthday artworks where FANG is included…I don’t know why they weren’t retweeted and mine was. I don’t know. I’m just making conjectures on why my piece was chosen when there were much better ones that came out on AKI’s birthday.

Additional F.A.N.G Content in Future DLC

Anyway, speaking of how important F.A.N.G is, I think we’re going to see more of him in World Tour Mode when Ed DLC drops. Yes, it’s pretty obvious that he’s going to turn up later because of AKI’s arcade ending and FANG’s WT cutscene that has JP and Ed in it. But those aren’t the only reasons why FANG will come back. The same time I found out about the AKI commentator audio was also the time when I uncovered additional FANG audio. He only said a few lines in WT, but there are more lines that were not used in the game as of 11/15/2023. I extracted them all, both in English and Japanese.

I uploaded these audio clips on October 11, exactly one month before A.K.I.’s birthday. Go figure.

From the sounds of it, he has more varied reactions, some more missions for you to complete, and mentions M. Bison’s name twice in unknown contexts. I believe these voice lines will be utilized in later dlc, if not in the upcoming Ed release. I found the AKI birthday commentary audio long before her birthday was even announced, so I’m betting that we’ll hear these unused FANG voice lines in the future. Unfortunately I couldn’t find any battle voice lines for FANG, but perhaps in a future dlc he might be a fightable NPC?

i was tagged by @riversofmars (thank you!!)... feel like a little bit of a fraud doing this as i've had major writer's block for nearly two years now and have written virtually nothing during that time, but i'm gonna give it a go anyway 😅

doctor who! mostly leaning towards dweu/big finish stuff but i've written some new who fic as well in the past. (i've also been wanting to write something for the pleasant green universe audio series for a while now but as my major fixations on it have all coincided with the aforementioned writer's block that... hasn't happened lmao)

i try to! sometimes i'm a bit delayed with it (i know there's a couple i need to get around to answering rn but before today i hadn't been on my ao3 for... half a year at least?? so i'm a bit behind oops), but i like to get back to everyone who leaves a comment, just to say thanks :)

no, it's not really my thing. smut is very honestly just kinda there to me, i don't have strong feelings about it either way, and so it's not something i've ever felt compelled to write yknow??

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

nope! i mainly prefer playing around with canon/canon-adjacent stuff tbh, i've got a couple of unfinished aus hanging around that will probably never see the light of day, but no crossovers that i can think of

not as far as i'm aware. though to be fair, i don't venture onto fic websites other than ao3 so i'll never know for certain. i doubt it though

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

again, not as far as i know! i'd probably be chill with it though if anyone wanted to translate a fic of mine, provided they asked beforehand and it was one i was comfortable with being translated :)

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

nope! the closest i've got is participating in an event run by a discord server i used to be mildly active in and am technically still part of, which was a lot of fun :D

14. What’s your all-time favourite ship?

i don't know if i really have an "all-time" favourite as such, but i've written a fair bit for liv and helen from the 8das, and really love their dynamic. i'm also a big fan of leela/romana, but for whatever reason i've never been quite able to make writing them work :/

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but probably won’t?

there's a fair few 😅 the main one I can think of atm is the eldritch helen fic i vaguely remember being asked about on here a couple of years back, it's a concept that i still have a lot of interest in and love for, but i've never quite been able to get the fic itself to work and i fear it may be doomed to the wip pit for eternity :((

i've also got quite a few unfinished pieces of varying lengths with the war-veklin-albert tardis team from "the war doctor begins" hanging around my drive that i'd a) love to finish and b) probably won't; their dynamic and their whole deal as a team whose story takes place mostly off-screen and which we only see the ending of fascinates me. maybe one day i'll manage to do something with it

16. What are your writing strengths?

description :) this is the one thing i am ever consistently happy with in my writing (i am my own harshest critic <3), and i've got a couple of nice comments about it before. so!

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

dialogue - even with characters i know well and whose voices i have clear in my head, i do find it difficult to make dialogue feel really authentic, and it's definitely something i tend to overly fixate on when i'm writing because i'm so conscious of wanting to get it right

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

i'm totally fine with it! as long as it has a reason for being in the story, and isn't like. getting in the way of readers understanding what's going on, i don't see the problem.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

doctor who :)

20. Favourite fic you’ve written?

it's probably a tie between The Security Guard, The Scholar, And The Giant Stone Cube (a fic i wrote back in 2021 based on this post about rory and helen theoretically being able to meet each other at the national museum during the pandorica arc, which i loved writing and am still really happy with nearly 3 years later), and mae cuddio dagrau yn fy ngwaed (a bit of a weirder/darker dreamscape-type story; it took a lot of puzzling things out to piece all the different parts together to make something that was cohesive but still felt strange or off in the way dreams do, but i was really pleased with the end result!)

can't think of anyone to tag off the top of my head who hasn't been tagged already, so i'll leave this free for anyone to take part if they want to! :)

As I plan on and have started to expand beyond NuWho, I have been doing research. The EU content plus Classic Who is absolutely daunting and messy so I want to find a way to streamline it for my sake. I already am listening to 8th’s audios and been jumping around in ClassicWho (not completely disordered, there’s a method in madness).

I desire to streamline the process as while I do accept all EU content as canon, I don’t want to be ranking all of this content when ranking Doctor Who stories. Thus, after thinking hard, I have decided to include the audios of 6, 7 and 8 as part of my main continuity created out of convenience.

I include Big Finish and not written media because of how firstly, I can’t really get access to written stuff. Next, Big Finish is the closest thing to a television episode in EU and these three doctors are voiced by their actual actors.

While I will listen to other Big Finish audios eventually, these 3 are the main ones I will focus on and treat them as primary canon for various reasons:

The situation in how Colin Baker was let off plus the immense production issues due to the studio execs would lead to a rather unfair assessment of 6th. Thus, I’m unwilling to judge the merit of the 6th Doctor based on the show alone.

For the Seventh Doctor, I justify his inclusion due to the irresolution of Classic Who. Beyond the movie, I am aware that the show ends inconclusively due to behind the scenes shenanigans and thus I believe that I can determine his run as incomplete.

For the Eighth Doctor, it is pretty self explanatory, his one night tenure and a short film justify using Big Finish to create an era for him. Especially since Night Of The Doctor considers his companions up to Molly as canon.

However, as there are also many stories for each which I’m not pressured to listened to all. I will limit myself and focus on the following:

The Sixth Doctor stand alones (applies to those that I listen too), Sixth’s adventures with Evelyn Smythe, Season 23, his adventures with Charley, the proper departure for 6th and possibly Peri and The Piscon Paradox

The Seventh Doctor’s stand alones (same rules as 6th), his adventures with Ace and Hex, Doctor Klein and possibly Love and War

For the Eighth Doctor, Eight and Charley, Eight and Lucie (Up til To The Death) and Eight with Molly (may take a while to get to)

If you have any recommendations (if you’re reading this), do let me know! Because it’s not that I’m not going to listen to other audios if I have the chance, I’m just trying to make it easier for myself by focusing on a select few first. So yes, in any companion ranking throughout all of Doctor Who, I will include Hex, Evelyn, Charley, Lucie, C’Rizz, Tasmin, Liv (up til the end of Sullivan’s run), Molly and Dr Klein.

On the subject of other Doctors, I will explain that:

I’m not including BF for 1-4 because their tenures were at least not fucked over. This in particular applies to 4 because Baker has had like 7 seasons, he doesn’t need a fighting chance.

I was tempted to include 5 but I went against this because Davidson did leave on his own accord. However, his audios will be next after I finish my “main timeline.” Though Spare Parts I will listen soon (but not include it in any rankings beyond Big Finish rankings)

9 is actually pending review due to his turbulent relationship behind the scenes. While his case is more open, there’s also room to deny the need for BF due to the manner in which Series 1 was written. Another reason to deny BF for now is because he has a less “formed” BF era due to his recent entry.

10 should be self explanatory and if you ask more questions, I will legitimately have no words for you. However, if I have the time and money by the end of this, I would love to listen to the Donna Noble and 10 adventures and The Timelord Victorious Event in full.

11-12 for very obvious reasons, especially since Smith and Capaldi haven’t signed on and have very cohesive runs.

13 would be under review because of how Covid Productions messed up Flux’s production. However, she has no BF content as of now and even if she manages to develop a cohesive run in BF, only stuff which is directly related to Flux or scrapped stuff due to the production will be considered here.

For companion adventures, probably only Peri and The Piscon Paradox will be included as it ties back to 6th. Other companions like River, Leela, Missy while I’m interested in, will be put on hold until I complete the central runs.

For other relevant companions in BF such as Flip and Constance, I chose Evelyn because of the arc’s ties to Hex but also how she was the first one designed for it all if I’m not mistaken. And the Liv Chenka stuff will not be included beyond Molly Sullivan due to the necessity to streamline.

Time War, War Master stuff may be included in the future but as I’d like to limit myself so that I don’t go broke for now, will be excluded.

FAVORITE MUSE (S) YOU’VE WRITTEN : Definitely River, but I’ve had a hand at the Eleventh Doctor and he is definitely fun to play with.

GETTING TO KNOW THE ACCOUNT :

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO TAKE ON THIS MUSE : I’ve been writing River Song since the day I set foot on this website back in....2008? I haven’t always stuck with her, and life does get in the way sometimes, but River is the muse that I have fallen in love with time and time again, no matter what goes on in my life. I’ve loved her character since she first appeared with the Tenth Doctor, and the rest has been history. She is the easiest for me to get into character for, and the closest character I find myself relating to of any of my muses.

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE ASPECTS OF YOUR CURRENT MUSE : The more I find canon material about River, the more I am amazed by her depth. I’ve been listening to the Diary of River Song by Big Finish and oh! So much to explore and so many emotions! River has had lifetimes of development and years of experiences to have me hanging on her every word for dear life! I love how much she’s been through, and how much there is still left to come.

WHAT’S YOUR BIGGEST INSPIRATION WHEN IT COMES TO WRITING : I find my writing in all sorts of place, and it changes from day to day - sometimes it comes from music, sometimes from pictures, and sometimes from River herself. Lately, most of my inspiration has been from listening to the Audios of her Diary.

FAVORITE TYPES OF THREADS : As long as effort is put into it, I love threads of all sort - but mostly I love threads that have deep seeded emotions embedded in them. Something that pulls and tugs and rips and tears. Anything painful that can end in sheer happiness or the other way around. Tug on my heart strings in some way, and you’ll have me hooked.

BIGGEST STRUGGLE IN REGARDS TO YOUR CURRENT MUSE : River is pretty iconic for her sass and flirty nature, but I find a lot of people don’t realize how much depth her character actually has - and I try to reflect that in every post I write, but sometimes I wonder if I ever play her as too soft, too emotional, or too sentimental.

Period Health with Karli Riesen

If you or someone you love has a uterus, then this episode is for you! As we mention in the episode, we are not medical professionals and you should get in touch with your GP if you have any questions or concerns after listening. We have done our googles, but not a PHD. Periods are bloody normal, bloody important, and honestly how are there not more widespread memes about it?

This was one of the first episodes I recorded with the wonderful folks at Brisbane Podcast Hub (an AMAZING resource for podcasters, highly recommend) and as I’m a novice when it comes to recording and editing, I had no idea what gain was. Until now. So unfortunately, this episode’s audio quality is not up to our usual standards. There will be a few more like this in the future I’m afraid, but I promise the content is worth it. Also, thank you all for being patient with me while I figured out how to edit things!

Period poverty has not been accepted as a phrase by any dictionaries, which is a shame. But in my understanding it is when people are unable to access sanitary products, usually for economic reasons, and are therefore unable to live their damn lives.

AUDIO DIRECTED STUDY.

Working as part of a group to do practical directed studies, we looked at audio changes with different mic set-ups.

Using an iPhone built in mic, Canon 1200D built in mic and a Rhode camera mounted mic, we were able to see how different mics can effect the quality of audio when filming or recording. When listening to the recordings, you can hear the difference in quality, however ambient noises and sounds can effect the quality, especially if the mic is very sensitive. We also tried using a clip on mic, and while the quality overall was good, trying to eliminate any noises caused by clothing was more difficult than using the Rhode camera mounted mic.

LIGHTING DIRECTED STUDY

For this directed study, we used various lighting set-ups to see how they effect the quality of the video being shot. We experimented with darkening down the background lighting and focused lighting on the subject. While in the classroom, we used a white background and used a lighting source that had brightness options. We played about seeing how different degrees of brightness can make the person in the shot seem like they are in different places, or have different colouring.

FLICKERING, SHUTTER ANGLE, FRAME RATE

Shutter speed is the length of time it takes for light to reach the sensor inside the camera. If the shutter speed is slow, it will cause motion blur. 24 frames per second is the industry standard for shooting film, however with new 4K technology, this may go up to 60fps depending on the context.

Shooting at 24fps with the shutter speed set to 1/50 and 1/100 there was no flicker, however going above 1/100 or below 1/50 caused flickering. 1/50 is the shutter speed closest to 1/48 for shooting at 24fps.

ROLLING SHUTTER

Rolling shutter occurs when there is movement of an object and/or movement on the camera that is recording. Rolling shutter can be avoided by matching the frame rate of the camera to the pulses of any fluorescent lighting. Additionally rolling shutter can be avoided by choosing a shutter speed equal to the rate of the light pulse, then dividing it by a whole number. The downside with this method is it not able to control all motion blur, but can be used to control flickering from different light sources.
