This is probably the dumbest feeling I’ve had so far surrounding Versailles lmao, but I saw the pics of the new Marie Antoinette series, of people standing in the Hall of Mirrors and like... I suddenly got hit with a wave of sadness that all the characters in Versailles that we love would be dead at that point. Is that stupid? Like... Versailles is a show based on real life people who are already dead and have been for a very long time at this point. I obviously went into the series knowing this. Not a one has ever been alive while I have been alive.
And yet... suddenly I just felt sad.

I feel like many people have a fundamental misconception of what unreliable narrator means. It's simply a narrative vehicle not a character flaw or a sign that the character is a bad person. There are also many different types of unreliable narrators in fiction. Being an unreliable narrator doesn't necessarily mean that the character is 'wrong', it definitely doesn't mean that they're wrong about everything even if some aspects in their story are inaccurate, and only some unreliable narrators actively and consciously lie. Stories that have unreliable narrators also tend to deal with perception and memory and they often don't even have one objective truth, just different versions. It reflects real life where we know human memory is highly unreliable and vague and people can interpret same events very differently

so basically lestat fucked up louis and louis fucked up armand and armand fucked up daniel but also lestat did fuck up armand. and armand fucked up lestat and louis fucked up lestat and armand fucked up louis also louis fucked up daniel so they are all pretty fucked up emotionally i would say and lestat has feelings for louis but beef with armand and does not know daniel and louis has feelings for lestat AND armand- but armand is a kind of a 70 year rebound- and he hit on daniel in a gay bar and daniel has never met lestat wanted to fuck louis and had a memory wipe situationship with armand and armand has feelings for AND beef with lestat, is lavender married to louis and spent four years stalking daniel to ask him to call paris. so what i am saying here is that unfortunately for the sake of balance lestat and the journalist should have to both fuck and fuck eachother up.

forever obsessed with dynamics between vampires, specifically that of a maker and fledgling, as a way to explore abuse. the creation of a vampire itself can so easily be a literalization of the lasting impacts of trauma and also much more simply the ways a perpetrator might shape their victim’s very identity. the extremes of isolation in the way that the new vampire, in most narratives, must cut all ties to their mortal life, or else go through an elaborate charade to maintain the facade of humanity, while forever still being removed from it. and the sheer dependence and vulnerability of being in an entirely new state of being, wholly uncertain of what it entails, and relying on another person to define… everything.

it's SO funny that when asked what he had to do to prepare for his role in IWTV Sam Reid says he had to learn how to play the piano, learn to speak French, Italian, and English with a French accent. Bailey read IWTV religiously and added her own comments, and kept an actual fucking journal she wrote entirely as Claudia. meanwhile Jacob Anderson, when asked the same question, just responds with “oh nothing, i was already emo”. icons and legends only

god it’s just like. what if your guardian angel was actually real and a vampire and he almost killed you but he saw your spark and your pain and himself in it and your beautiful messy human potential and he looked you in the eyes and he put the same hand he grabbed you with on your shoulder to comfort you and with the same mouth that almost drained you he said you matter. You matter. and you never even knew that the voice in your head was his all along. what if it saved your life more times than you can count. what if you’re finally in the position to return the favor. what then!!!!!

i'm obsessed with jacob's acting choices for the dubai era. every movement he makes has heavy sandbags attached. you can see louis thinking as he attempts to move his limbs "effortlessly." even his voice - intended to sound casual and unaffected - is taut like a live wire. i really loved jacob's acting during the scene in 2x04 where he realizes daniel was looking at photographs he did not take - especially the part where louis wants daniel to make sure he lets the readers know he was an adequate/amateur photographer. he tries to say it in a relatively indifferent way, like it's purely an accuracy concern, but you can see all of his anger in the way he clenches his jaw and purses his lips. i love how jacob utilizes control when he acts as louis; it's magnificent.

so the thing is.. the thing is. lestat is manipulative yes but crucially, CRUCIALLY he's not good at it. in ep 1 he had a plan for seducing louis but the moment it stopped going his way he got impatient threw a tantrum and basically strongarmed louis into becoming his companion which only really worked because louis is also crazy. but the thing is the thing IS that that's exactly what's scary about lestat, that he's a selfish irrational violent man with no impulse control and he's also often kind of stupid. and the fact that he DOES love louis extremely sincerely and passionately only ADDS to the horror of it because there's a level of volatility and unpredictability that simply wouldn't be present if he was a cold savvy master manipulator. there's simply nothing he wouldn't do to keep him and he is insane!!!!
and this is also what makes season 2 interesting because armand actually IS a master manipulator and that's scary in the completely opposite way, in a subtle way where you don't even get that you've been manipulated until it's too late or potentially ever. and he too is insane and capable of doing anything to get and keep what he wants. lestat was incapable of keeping louis with him without resorting to violence but armand doesn't even need to and better for him yet he's convinced louis that it's all his choice and that he has real agency in the relationship and that is also scary!!!! they are both really scary that's the thing

Daniel Molloy is so disappointed to find out he didn’t get to fuck a vampire because the horniest he’s ever felt in his life is when Armand commandeered his body and called him a hole and the most loved and comforted he’s ever felt in his life is when Armand was about to kill him
