Happy Boxing Day! I was tagged by @you-are-so-much-better-than-that in this artist interview.

1. Do you post on AO3? If so, how many works do you have on AO3? If not, where do you post?

I do post on AO3 as Suzy_Queue. I have two art galleries there, one for general art and one for Kinktober 2022.

2. What is your total art count?

If you count art done for other people's stories, headers for my own stories, and Gallacrafts pieces, it's around 150.

3. What are your top 5 pieces by likes/kudos?

4. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

Yes! Although I'm not the fastest at it.

5. What is your current fandom, and what was the first fandom you drew for?

Currently, it's Gallavich all the way. The first fandom I remember drawing for was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, making my own comics. (they were 7th-grade-girl bad).

6. Have you ever received hate on any art?

Nope, people are very supportive, even on pieces that I know aren't that great.

7. What’s a fandom/ship you haven’t drawn for yet but want to?

I can't really think of any.

8. What’s your all-time favorite ship?

The one that has lived in my brain for the longest part of my life is Han/Leia.

9. Do you draw outside of fandom?

Yeah! I was an art major in college. I've been a professional artist for 20 years and have created art for book covers, movie posters, album covers, logos. I go to figure drawing sessions at a local art school and am in a nature journaling group. I've displayed my horror art at conventions around the country.

10. What’s the an art piece you’ve drawn that came out completely differently than you expected?

This was the first piece I ever drew on a tablet with a pressure-sensitive pen. It was an experiment to learn the tools. I had no idea how it would look, and it turned out all right.

11. Do you draw smut?

Yep! There's some smut in this gallery.

12. Have you ever had any of your art stolen or copied?

Not that I know of.

13. Have you ever collaborated on a piece?

I've created art for stories working with the author, but I've never co-drawn a piece of art. Unless you count playing Exquisite Corpse with my children.

14. What’s an idea you have that you have yet to draw?

Oh, I have a lot. The one I think about most is a picture of Ian and Mickey in a lineup at jail, looking disheveled, hung over, and completely in love.

15. What are your drawing strengths?

I like my compositions a lot, the flow of items throughout the picture. I feel like I'm good at drawing what I see in a realistic way, whether it's a photo or real life.

16. What are your drawing weaknesses?

Drawing from memory/imagination. I have to have reference photos of what I'm doing or I go off the rails. I need to develop more trust in my own style and lean into weird proportions and my own skewed vision.

17. What’s your favorite art piece you’ve drawn?

I'm quite partial to this book cover art I did. It's spray paint, pastel, and acrylic. It's about 4 feet tall.

18. What is one thing you’d like to tell people about your art that they might not know?

Just because I've been doing it for a while doesn't mean I'm not still learning every day.

19. What inspires or motivates you to create for fandom?

I have a lot of emotional energy churning below the surface. Creating art and fics helps get it out. It's a much more positive outlet than letting it brew.

20. And finally, can you describe your process a little? Do you have a favorite place to draw? Do you play something in the background? Do you do research or just go for it? Give us a little insight.

I have a basement office where I write and draw. I bought a new table this year which I absolutely love. I do most of my creative work between 9-11 pm after the rest of my family has gone to bed. I do love music and play it a lot while I draw.

I research a ton. I spend a lot of time making photo compositions for every piece I draw, which are collages of body parts and other images.

It's almost upon us...

Morning there!

I'm beat but here I am ready for my personal double header of the weekend: FP2 and FP3 one right after the other, plus Quali at lunch time.

For now I'm watching FP2 while I get my breakfast ready. I'm still processing the comments against Spendstappen and RBR yesterday, because Lobato was adamant that what happened at Interlagos last weekend was not okay at all. Impressed.

Not much going on, as usual in this session. Mick having some problem with the floor, Lewis coming too close with Kevin, a slippery patch at the McLaren pit stop point, Giorgio getting into some traffic, but that's about it for now.

Poor Charles can't have a decent weekend nowadays apparently 😩 I truly hope Binotto gets replaced, a team like Ferrari can't have such a useless Team Principal who can't even see a problem that his own team has created and therefore won't even seek solutions. Because all that's happened has been all Ferrari's doing, not Charles' or Carlos'.

Now I'm watching FP3 quite a bit late, I thought it started at 12pm but apparently it started a while before so I'm just starting it.

First thing I notice is Charles' Danke Seb sticker on his helmet 🥹

Antonio Lobato is still on fire today criticizing Fraudstappen again for not being as good as a person with all the excuse and lies. Amazing, seriously.

Nothing up until the point Pierre lost some piece of the car and the session gets Red Flagged. Now apparently Lewis overtook Norris and a Haas (not sure which one) while on a Red Flag, but if you check the images the light panel doesn't really show a Red Flag, it looked like a double Yellow Flag, at that point until the actual Red Flag is waved by a Marshal. And some time ago it was stated (obviously, when it came to Costappen) that the waving of the actual flag took precedent. So I don't truly see the problem, and he apparently braked considerably when he saw the double Yellows.

It's ridiculous that they investigate it after the session when there's not really proof that the Red Flag was being shown at that point.

Even the Spanish commentators that it's NOT a Red Flag, and these people are all happy to go against Hamilton, but it's too clear to pass up.

Many drivers are having trouble around the track today too. Time's up in FP3 and now I can go do my life until Quali in less than 2 hours from now.

Let's see what Quali brings us on the last race weekend of the season.

Anyway, so happy for Seb for making it today into Q3, I really hope he stays up there too to finish properly.

We got this skull mask during the Halloween sales last year because the inspiration I had in mind when having / wearing this mask was supposed to inspired by my death game / horror character, the Huntslord, who is known to be the final child in this massacre that they were thought to be responsible for and then the first winner of this death game that they were forced to play against other people who were the remaining survivors of their respective massacres ( something something, let's see which final child is the ultimate survivor, something something ), and also that the world thought they were the creator of the game and was just pretending to be a player. Eventually, they faked their suicide to have some peace, but the world only "brought" them back as a horror folklore known as the Huntslord who would play games with people and take their skulls of their victims lost, and this character did end up deciding to be a serial killer, stealing this mask from a store on Halloween sales, to fit into the image the world painted them as being a monster, yet they kill only those who truly deserve death; still the world only sees them as terrible for the horrors they had brought rather than supporting them for ending the horrors themselves, yet that's okay to the Huntslord as long as they can get the work done.

They always wear a trench coat and leather gloves with a black shirt underneath it, always having a knife with them, and the faceclaim I had in mind for the Huntslord is this fella, who had worn the exact same mentioned attire that I visualized Huntslord to have before learning this character wore like them too. <3 I had someone telling me these images make the Huntslord look like they come from the Dead by Daylight game, which I can definitely see it as well. We're a graphic creator at heart, so of course, I would dramatize my selfies with the mask so much, but here's these two graphics below I had done as well. A bonus treat for us all. <3 But yeah, I had massive gender euphoria when I got into this attire and whenever I wear this mask. We didn't even get to go trick-or-treating last year because I was busy with college assignments, but I'm very certain we will this coming Halloween and I am extremely excited for that! Anyways, I'm beyond happy we got to buy this mask. I have skulls and masks very dearly much, so getting this? It's perfect. :3

My Development - Entry 5

Description - What Happened?

(Demo Track Development)

During week 5 of this project, I began re-recording my demo track of Black Hole Sun using the GarageBand project I started last week as a template. By doing this, I continued to develop the skills I have been learning in my production tools classes:

As I am recording everything from home, I decided to program in the drums using midi on the piano roll in Logic, our week 2 production tools class was about midi, and we looked at the velocity tool and how it can change the intensity of a note. This technique was imperative when programming the drums for my demo as it helped to make them sound more realistic and less robotic. Playing ghost notes is a technique I learned from my experience as a drummer and this technique features very heavily in Black Hole Sun, using the velocity tool I achieved this sound. To know the drum part, I referenced this YouTube cover I found through research and I also used some drum sheet music which I read, programming in each beat as it was tabbed out. The following images show the piano roll on my midi drum track with the quieter ghost notes, the drum sheet music and the cover I found on YouTube.

To help achieve the bass sound I wanted for my track, I recorded my bass directly into Logic and created an initial tone using the bass amp designer. I used the multi-band equalizer to bring out some of the upper mid-range frequencies to help the instrument cut through the mix better. I also applied the low pass filter to remove any high frequencies which won't be needed in the mix, the latter two are techniques I learned through just trial and error and experimenting with the different stems we are given in our production tools classes. Since we have been using Logic Pro during our production tools classes, I found a free trial of the software which I downloaded and used, this benefitted me so much during my recording as there are several tools which aren't available on GarageBand, like using a bus to apply the same reverb to all of my separate drum tracks or adding headers so I can easily identify each section of my song.

(Warm-up Routine)

Last week I set myself the target of creating a proper warm routine which I can apply before my guitar practice sessions. The reason I did this is that I feel like I want to get more out of my guitar practice and I often find myself reaching a plateau when I'm learning, so a proper warm-up could help me through this and be more consistent.

To do this, I carried out some research into some guitarists that I like and the warm-ups that they use.

The first exercise I found was by John Petrucci (of the band Dream Theater) from an article in a guitar magazine which also has an accompanying video. This is a legato warm-up which essentially gets the blood flowing.

The next exercise is one from guitarist Nita Strauss from an article she published in Guitar World magazine. This warm-up is designed to help with finger independency and syncing up the fretting and picking hands.

Finally, I found this last exercise (used by Joe Satriani) to be helpful as it focuses more on playing chord shapes which would set me up better for rhythm playing as opposed to lead playing like the first two might.

I compiled all of these warm-ups into a short routine which I will start trying to apply to get more out of my guitar practice sessions. This video shows me going through these exercises and I have also written it down and stuck it to my desk so I remember what I have to do each time I sit down and play.

(Risk Assessment)

I created a risk assessment this week, detailing all of the potential risks during the project and some control measures I have for them, it applies to both rehearsals and live performances

Feelings

When it came to recording my demo track, I definitely felt happy with how it was all coming together. I had the preconception that my drums would sound too fake as they are midi but they ended up sounding a lot more genuine than I thought they would, this can be attributed to me spending extra time playing around with the velocity settings. I also feel proud to have recorded everything on my demo by myself.

After trying my warm-up routine for a few days, I have had this moment of clarity or this realisation where I'm wondering why I haven't been doing it the whole time, I feel like my playing has been much more consistent and my mindset towards playing the guitar also improved. I will have to keep trying it indefinitely to see if these effects are a true result of my warm-ups or not.

Evaluation

What went well? - I achieved what I set out to do, both in recording my demo and working on some new warm-up techniques, Iv learned the importance of warming up and how it can benefit my playing, especially before doing something important like recording this week. This can most certainly apply to my career as a guitarist as I will need to warm up in other scenarios like gigging for example.

My demo track is sounding good and all of the research I have put into it so far has paid off, especially with the guitar tones.

I have also taken up work on two other projects, recording the backing tracks for both Ela's and Paris' formative demos, I approached these the same as my own one, using a copy of the Black Hole Sun file as a template for theirs, tweaking things like the guitar and drum tones.

What didn’t go so well?

Despite not having the goal of recording a completely finished demo of the entire track, I wished that I could have gotten a little bit further with my progress as I only made it to the solo section. The reason is that I was working on two other projects which ended up being a lot more time-consuming than I thought, I also underestimated how long it would take for me to program in midi drums for each of these songs. Something I would do differently next time would be to organise my time better and work on each song separately as opposed to all at the same time.

My demo is only an instrumental at the moment but having vocals would have benefited it much more.

There was also a target I set for myself last week which was to research some live performances of guitarists I like to find some new performance techniques. I didn't get around to achieving this as my other research took up most of my time so I plan to try this again next week.

Hey everyone! Time for the last tumblr update of January. It's been a busy two weeks, so here we go!

Summary:

Edited 6-7 CGs

Completed all Jack CGs, all Lance CGs and some Magnus CGs (So about 6 or so CGs completed)

Finished Quill Ch 2

Started revamping the glossary

The Ramble:

First of all - CG edits.

I have been going back to tweak older CGs off and on for a while now and in the past couple of weeks I went back and edited quite a few CGs. In some cases the edits were because I didn't like the CGs, in other cases, I changed the scene up a little and had to make continuity fixes to things like character outfits. My style has shifted a bit since I first started the game as well and there were a few CGs where it was particularly noticeable, so I fixed those as well.

And in one case I noticed I just flat out forgot to shade one character's eyes. So I needed to fix that.

Eventually, even if I'm not totally happy with a CG, I do have to set it down and walk away and wash my hands of it because I cannot reasonably edit CGs forever. At some point a CG has to be "done." Sometimes I get to the point that I can't even tell if I'm fixing anything anymore or if it's flaws in new and exciting ways. LoL

Ultimately though I do want the CGs to be as good as they can be so I do revisit old CGs occasionally and have been doing that a lot in the last couple of weeks.

In addition to that I have completed all of Jack's remaining CGs, all of Lance's CGs and one (and a half) of Maggie's remaining CGs - he has two left to complete. One is about half finished - still need to finish rendering the characters in it.

The other is in a rough sketch state at the moment so the staging and composition are blocked in but I still need to do the final line art and colour it.

Then, of course, both of those have to be recoloured and coded.

Once these two CGs are done that is all of the CGs for the first release.

52 CGs. 8 per love interest + 1 of Morgan and 1 intro CG each for Yuu, Reuben, and Quill.

I have so many regrets (in terms of. . .deciding that this much work was something I could handle. Because it was something I could handle. But just. And with a lot of pain killers. And heat packs. And other treatments to get me through the very real pain I've inflicted upon myself.) But. . .ITS DONE (almost).

Moving on from CGs. . .

I also spent a day working on a new cover art for the game. I was setting up the steam page, which requires approximately 1.1 million images, each one with unique dimensions. (Thanks, I hate it.)

I just realised that using the sprite art really wasn't going to work for these images. I couldn't cram 9 love interests into the various "capsules" and "covers" and banners and headers. . .and Morgan's sprite alone just doesn't really give enough of an idea what this game is like.

So I really needed an image that was more versatile, more interesting than just Morgan's sprite.

So I made that. And then made my 1.1 million images with their annoyingly unique dimensions and uploaded them. And sent the page for review. Steam is always an adventure so we'll see how long it takes to get the page reviewed and set up. (I really just put in the basic information and may try to spruce it up later on. . .)

In regards to actual game development. . .

I have also been working on revamping the glossary screens and writing up some new glossary entries. Finishing the glossary is really going to be the next major thing I try to finish, I think. I still have a lot of other small polishing things (adding in some SFX and stuff) but the glossary is kind of the biggest remaining feature to finish. And I want to spruce it up a bit since what is there right now is. . .functional. But not necessarily what I want to have in the final game.

So that is on the horizon once I finish up the CGs. BUT will probably happen after I implement all the corrections the beta testers have offered up and sent out a new beta version with all the CGs in it so that we can verify they are working correctly.

Lastly, I have done some writing. Not a lot since I'm focused elsewhere, but I did finish Quill's second chapter and have started editing the outline for his third chapter so I can get started on that as well.

So yeah. Busy two weeks. But we are getting there.

~Witchy Haul~

Some things I gott the other dayyy......I went overboard but I'm happy sooo I guess my Bill's can wait....>_<

Soooo before we startttt I am VERY new to the craft......also I live in a very Christian area so we dont have metaphysical shopssss. Everything I got is from Amazon, Walmart and/or Five Below. >_<

Tarot Cards!

This is the 'Moden Witch Tarot Deck' by Lisa Sterle. I was so excited for them to come inn. I really like that the images are so inclusive. It's a good starter deck, or a deck for teens. The cardstock is very stiff so it makes shuffling kinda hard but I can tell they're going to last a long tiimmeee. The one down side is that the cards are too big for me to hold in my had comfortably but if you like big cards or you have big hads then its wont be a problem...>_<

This is the 'Kawaii Tarot' deck by Diana Lopez. Its suppppeeerrr cutteee so pink I lovvveee itttt >_<. Its a BIG package with a big explanation book. The cards themselves are very small they fit right in my handdd. The images are sooo cute and very minimalistic. The color choice is also very calming. This would be the perfect beginner deck and a good deck to use for therapeutic reads. The only down fall is that the cards are separated into 2 cardboard boxes and they're hard to close and you have to separate that card to fit in both boxes (it takes a good 5 minutes to put them back each time). I wouldn't recommend this for beginners because it does have reversed card meaning, the meanings are in the book but o would recommend them to intermediate tarot readers.

Candles

It's a little boring but I bought some tea candles, votive candles and 1 gray tapered candle. I got the tea light as a recommendation because they burn out really quickly so they are good for quick spells and protection for readings and medications but I really dont like them. They have a tendency to spill everywhere, I'm TOO clumsy for them!! The votive candles are my fave cuz they are bigger they last little longer and (if you put them in the right candle holder) they dont spill overrrr!! I realize that I could put my tea candles ina. Candle holder, however, the metal holder would still be an issue for me cuz I would feel bad throwing them away but what would I be able to use them for??? Maybe offering dishes??? I got the gray taper because I needed a black candle but they literally didnt have ANY at any of the places I went TT so I'll be on the hunt. I dont even have a proper candle holder for tapers so I won't be able to light it anytime soon >_<

Crystals?

I got this pink Himalayan rock salt lamp and a crystal imitation incense holder. The lamp was only $5 and that why I got it but it's not what I expected. When I got it o didnt notice that it had been leaking so there was water damage on the box, which is fine because I'll just going to cross it but I should have paid more attention. The cord was also a USB which means I have to plug it into a computer or get my own cube which is a little sad. I use my phone charger's cube to make sure it turned on since it had water damage and it was all fine. It's a nice light not to bright but effective! The incense holder is not a real crystal (or at least I'm assuming because it was $4) either way is super pretty!!!

Books

Two books!!! I'm so excited I LOVE books... I haven't read them yet but I will soooooon. The first one is 'An Introduction to Crystal Grids' by Karen Frazie and the next is 'Healing Crystals' by Karen Ryan. I got the crystal grids on Amazon. I got it because I am going to help my friends spiritually cleans their houses. Also just because crystals are a topic I'm not too familiar with and I need some info (also I love books and spending my money TT). The next book I got at 5 below jsut because they had it and it was witchy >_<

Tonics

They're not really tonics bit I couldn't think of a good header.....Healing liquid was my next choice but it was kinda off putting.... I got Florida Water, Witch Hazel, cosmetic olive oil and rose oil a floral eye serum and floral perfume. The Florida Water is just to cleans things I buy at thrift store (like furniture) that is too big to cleanse with incense. It was actually my first time using Florida water, it was a surprising scent. I dont know what I exploit to smell like but it wasnt that..... I got the oils for many thingssss....firstly as part of my self care offerings for Aphrodite I've used it in ritual baths, in my hair, and on my facee. I want to use the olive oil to make annointed oil and to dress some deity candles I'm planning to make. The eye serum and roller perfume I got on a whim because they're pretty. If I dont like the scents they'll be used as offerings.

Incense

Okkkkkay almost donnneee...... I got new incense!!! I usually get them from 5 below but they didnt have any good ones today. So I got Strawberry, Lotus and Dragon Blood 40 packs from Walmart. Thw silver container is also incense also from Walmart and its frankincense. Finally I got a new flower incense holder......the incense had a good smell, I didnt particularly like the lotus but it was fine. My brother said the frankincense smelled like weed, then he said it smelled like ham??? I liked it just fine though. The flower is super pretty and I LOVE it. It just makes a mess that I have to clean. I'm going to start putting some paper down to cut down on the cleaning.....I ahye cleaning.

Miscellaneous

Last but not least I got Palo Santo, orange wax melts, and mini glass bottles. (Oof I put the witch Hazel in the tonic section TT). I got the Palo Santo at 5 below. I got it because it is what my ansc9used and what I would have been taught to use if my family practiced Brujería still, so I want to use it to teach the future generations of my family so we no longer have to hide in the shadows to practice. The wax melts are so test if I can replace them with candles. I'm sooo clumsy I am surprised I haven't started a fire yet so I need an alternative....the mini glass bottles were a gift from my mother. She needed them for a project but bought them to small. They're the perfect size for spells!!!

THE END

That was longgggggg. It was my first time writing a haul and it was kind fun. I wrote it all on my phone tho and now I dizzzyyy >_< . I have some things planned out and jsut waiting for me to write themmmm. I borrow my mother computer for my own sanity because my eyes hurt!!! Anyways thanks for reading!!!! >_<

I, a campaign manager

so in addition to being a CTO, a CS major, and a dorm vice president, i was also a campaign manager for 2 weeks (the exact campaign that I was managing is not entirely difficult to figure out if you really want to know, especially if you click on the links BUT i will be trying to not mention it specifically here lol). You might be wondering - (1) why and (2) how did you end up becoming a campaign manager..... you're not even a poli sci/gov/humanities/literally anything vaguely related to this major??

You're correct, yes, how did this happen? Well that's a great place to start this story:

How in the world this happened

Friends drag you into stuff. This happens to be the same friend that dragged me to New York, and then was 20% of the reason I got dragged into the negotiation class, and then was maybe 15% of the reason i got dragged into nonprofit activities? In terms of providing unique opportunities in my life, she definitely takes the cake. So one day, she says "I'm running for this position," and me and the squad says "we gotchu." What does that mean? Clearly wasn't sure in the beginning, but we were texting campaign strategies and slogans and tiktok ideas in the chat for fun. None of us had any real responsibilities, especially since the actual candidates were still weighing the playing field and figuring out their platform.

I also was a course 6, so I guess there was some expectation that I would make the website, even though I didn't actually code the website from scratch.

but anyways, it was actual campaign time.

CAMPAIGN SZN

After they figured out the campaign platform, it was game on for the campaign materials. We spent a lot of time on artwork, we photoshopped pictures from a photo shoot, we came up with campaign motto ideas, we brainstormed strategies for officially announcing the campaign. We had an actual campaign meeting to talk over things in mid-April where I met like six different people, friends from both candidates on this ticket, who were supporting this effort. We had a google drive AND a Dropbox. Look at this:

Despite this seemingly organized effort, it was not that organized because this publicity team didn't actually actively do anything for like a week. Many reasons for this: one being it was actually the semester, and it was also CPW weekend. Unfortunately for me, that weekend was literally hell for me, because I was managing this site for our nonprofit, CPW events (so like five zoom calls on a Saturday), classes (because those are still happening), and then the campaign thing finally started, about a week before voting opened. In the form, of a website.

So the tl;dr is I developed an entire Squarespace website in one night. Yes, one night. I had to model it from I think the website from a Harvard campaign site, which took me like three or four hours on a Saturday night, which is a very fast time in my opinion to learn how to use Squarespace. I also bought a domain and figured out how to connect it to Squarespace at like 1 in the morning, which was the first domain I ever bought in my life!

(It expires in a month. I am absolutely going to let it die.)

Also, if anyone from squarespace is reading this for some reason, yall made a really solid product. I actually was very happy with my experience. You all should use it, I am 100% not sponsored by them at all, but honestly it was a very good experience. If you need to develop a website in four hours and don't have a lot of webdev experience, definitely consider it. You can even see website clicks and user analytics, it's actually really put together.

The next day we spend a lot of time going through website changes and artwork changes. It's bad. We had so many discussions about color palettes and the advantages of a 3 column vs 4 column layout. Yes. I'm serious. I'm starting to go crazy.

If anyone's interested, I would say that our website definitely was better than the other campaign's website. Like objectively. Like both campaigns were great, but the website? well. Here's the link (archived because I only paid for 1 month of squarespace :D) The amount of detail that went into it is actually incredible, the amount of spacing, i even had to custom CSS the header image so that mobile headers would show up correctly.

THE CAMPAIGN VIDEO

so sometime during this week, I had this thought about making a really good campaign video. I was very inspired by some of these Google ads that started with a Google search bar. (Yes, I am aware that I am that much of a Google simp.) To be honest, rewatching this ad, I really definitely just copied this entire ad lol, it's ok we don't have to talk about that.

That Wednesday, we coincidentally talked about what makes campaign videos successful. We talked about how Trump's incendiary imagery helped stoke the flames and how it was really effective in getting people to vote, and eventually helped him beat Clinton in the presidential election. So I went and took that and grabbed news clips and campus videos and overlayed that in the video, and it went from like a solid 6 to an 8 immediately, in my honest, unbiased opinion. We also had to put together quite a few interviews about what they wanted from the school and were looking for in their candidates, which took a million years of coordination, but we somehow got it done in three days, and everything was put together in a flurry of a weekend, unending changes and small fixes for sixteen hours straight. I could not even tell you how much I learned about premiere pro and how to use layer masks and everything. I even composed the music for the first fifteen seconds of it. Literally, composed, it.

And so on a Sunday afternoon FINALLY right before voting, the video drops. I'm sitting in my backyard absorbing the sun because I hadn't left my computer for 48 hours straight.

It gets like 1000 views or impressions or something in like two days, which is incredible for me, since I'm not a professional by any standards, but I am considering being a professional campaign manager at this point. By the way, we're also managing an Instagram page, a Facebook page, a tiktok page, a website, our individual social media pages, and we're trying to synchronize this video drop and all of our publicity efforts across every single one of these channels. It's chaotic at best.

VOTING SZN

So it's voting week, where we give everyone an entire week to vote. Across the week, it's mostly a waiting game, we make a few more tiktoks and funny videos that we publicize to get out the vote more. The last day, we're thinking about it, and we know the final vote's gonna be close, so we message every. single. person. in our Facebook friends list. I think I singlehandedly convinced like twenty people to vote (and hopefully vote for our ticket).

There's a lot of drama about different stuff. I won't really talk about it because I think it got really messy, but this week and entire couple weeks was a lot to get through honestly. As a reminder, I'm also working on my senior thesis and my nonprofit website work is peaking at this point, so everything is very, very bad and none of us have slept in a while. Also it's the pandemic.

Finally, the results come out. We lost by like 20 votes or something, out of 1500 or so total votes casted or something like that. It's one of the highest voter turnouts in school history or something, I don't quite remember. After that, we're so emotionally drained from this whole thing that we just don't talk about it for a while and that's that.

If the ticket won, I wonder how it would've turned out. I feel like things would've continued to be busy, and maybe that's not a great thing. So maybe everything happened for a reason. I don't know, but those three weeks were quite interesting, quite fun, quite odd. I'm putting those videos in my personal portfolio and am putting Adobe Premiere Pro and Squarespace on my resume and moving on.

Anyways, thought I'd just share! i haven't posted in a while, and this was definitely one of my #weird #odd stories from my time at MIT, which is quite reminiscent of #weird #odd at MIT in general.

I can't believe I'm asking this or just I've had the thoughts to ask this before. This will he before I ask you about Freddy Vs Jason. But the Scream franchise? Your thoughts but just your icon being Stu and your header image, and saw a icon of Billy from someone you reblogged. As a guy who isn't a fan of the franchise and I've had thought at times to watch the first fully or something. I know lots of stuff due to searching up stuff and pop culture. I just want to hear your opinions.

OK so I LOVE the first Scream, it’s so so SO good!! but I’ve heard from a very trusted friend that the second one is Not Worth Watching, so I have absolutely no interest in anything beyond the very first movie lol (I have so many hangups about the MTV mask aesthetically that I couldn’t bring myself to watch the show either tbh) -- the first Scream is another of the first horror movies I saw so it also has a special place in my heart bc of that as well

anyways I kind of have a hard time picking this part because its just.. really fun? like it’s not shoving any message in your face, it’s just a real return to form for Wes Craven- like I live + breathe the original Nightmare on Elm Street, and Scream is just as high up there as NoES. I’ll admit I haven’t seen a TON of his movies, but The Serpent and the Rainbow came between NoES and Scream (amidst TV movies and some other films that look... just oof) and I could barely get through it- I remember the movie being super boring? I honestly had no idea it was Wes Craven at the time because it was totally the opposite of what I expected from him, so that’s why I say ‘return to form.’

I think the movie’s strongest points are its characters- they’re all really easy to love (even after an initial viewing, when you know the twist reveal of the killer). Billy’s got this very caring side towards Sidney, and even tho he has real frustrations wrt her trauma he’s willing to work things out with her + apologize- he’s also got a good camaraderie with Stu and just has a very grounded, even presence that balances Stu out excellently. Stu on the other hand is like, obviously the goofball + kind of a dickhead (the whole “Liver alone!” joke being a prime example) but he’s genuinely well-meaning and arguably over-affectionate? he picks Tatum up, hugs her, leans on her, like he’s very physical with her. He also leans on Randy when he and Billy corner him in the video rental shop so Stu’s probably just touchy-feely in general lol, but it’s a little trait that lends him a realness, you feel?

Tatum could’ve very easily fallen into the “bitchy best friend” stereotype but she’s honestly just protective? like yeah she’s sarcastic and whacks Stu in the head with a sucker but that’s like.. Stu deserved it because he IS a shithead, and while she can be snappy with Gale she does it to defend Sidney. She also puts up a really good fight against Ghostface, and has a neat discussion about female killers (Basic Instinct is her example) with the rest of the gang in the beginning. Sidney on the other hand has her own tough side which develops throughout the film as she’s faced with the killer, but like is realistically traumatized and is only ever presented as reasonable- they totally could’ve demonized her as a bad girlfriend because she won’t have sex with Billy but as we find out about her mother it’s like “oh yeah,” and you have a lot of compassion for her because of how she’s painted throughout the rest of the film

Randy is sort of the outlier here because he’s such an obvious red herring? like he’s the geeky horror-obsessed character that would’ve been the villain in like any other iteration of this movie, but instead he just kind of.... sidekicks his way out of death lmao. He’s the one who presents the rules of horror movies to us (don’t drink/do drugs, don’t have sex, and never say “I’ll be right back”), and when we find out he’s not dead, his line? “I never thought I’d be so happy to be a virgin.” Like, I really couldn’t imagine Scream without Randy-- sure, he’s just kind of... there; he doesn’t add a ton to the story, he’s not super integral to the plot, but he serves as a sort of audience surrogate and I feel like the movie would be missing something without him. He’s also a nice twist on the usual “watching violent media makes you violent!!!” thing

So, like, when we find out who the killer is (avoiding description in case others haven’t seen it/don’t know the reveal lol), the killer gives us that often-used line “movies don’t create psychos, movies make psychos more creative!” I think the quote’s a liiiiiiiitle oversaturated as like this edgy thing when it nicely encapsulates the film’s message? It’s not this big poetic thing, it’s just arguing that the “the reason X killed Y is because of [insert type of violent media]” mentality is complete bullshit. We establish that the killer had already decided to commit all these murders, each act was completely premeditated, the killer just turned to horror movies to see HOW to commit the crimes- it wasn’t a case of “he watched one horror movie and it turned poor little Jimmy into a violent serial killer completely out of the blue!” Then, on the other hand, the character who watches horror movies regularly for fun is the character who gives us the exposition we need and provides key advice to Sidney to help her survive (”this is the moment when the supposedly-dead killer comes back to life for a final scare”). It’s a really refreshing message to get as a horror fan

like overall though Scream’s just super fun? it gives us the tension we want, it gives us violent attacks and guts and gore (Casey’s death in the very beginning is sooooo good), but it never gets overbearing. Like yeah, sometimes I do want a splatterfest, and Scream is a very 90s movie (it shows, but it works for the film- imagining Scream in a post-90s setting makes me go.... eurgh.......), but it’s also one of the most wholeheartedly enjoyable horror movies I’ve ever watched. There’s no schlock, no parts that make me yawn- it just checks off a lot of boxes for me when it comes to fun horror movies and remains very rewatchable even if you know who the killer is
