during quarantine, tamaki instigates a mass love letter project: he has all of the girls who want to participate write down their addresses and their favorite host, and then those hosts write monthly love letters to them. some of the letters are better than others, but tamaki insists that each of the hosts put as much effort into the letters as they would their regular hosting duties.
it's long distance hosting, tamaki says. it's too much work, kyoya argues, until he realizes that, for a lot of the girls, these letters are their only connection to people other than absent/workaholic parents and servants who don't particularly like them. for a lot of these girls, the monthly letters are the only thing they look forward to. besides, running the project is one of the few things keeping tamaki sane while starved for social contact. and so despite himself, once he realizes these two things, he ends up writing some of the hosts' best letters.
