The year's been tough for me. Started this post with intent to thank everyone who supported and still support me, got carried away with sad memories, wrote about my break-up instead... Maybe I'll publish that too, later, for now let's try again.

One of good things is that by the end of summer I crawled out of my art block. That break-up may have helped this. Even started attending art-school again.

And yeah, tumblr is something that helped me greatly. Met some really cool and supporting people here. Was even flattered when the ones whom I've been following and admiring started noticing my headcanons posts and even followed me!

So thank you all, no matter if we didn't interact much (i just love seeing you on my dash)

I have very little words in the way of criticism towards Arknights. It's the only gacha game I've played in which I feel like I legitimately haven't gotten abused by the gacha at least once, the gameplay is fun, it's challenging when it needs to be without feeling overbearingly so, the writing is overall good and makes you care for and love the characters, the art direction is stellar and most importantly, the balance is overall very solid. As someone who's played several games crushed by bad balance and greed (most relevant to this post, Granblue Fantasy) that last point is specially important for me since I've seen what bad balance does to a game with potential.

To this day, you still see release units like Saria, Angelina and Silverash trucking along, holding comps together and being absolute mvps even in the most crushing content in the game, that being high risk CC. Surtr and Mudrock and Suzuran might exist and be very powerful and all but you bet your ass you're still gonna be seeing people using their reliable old units. Strong new guards might come and go, but my Blaze will be as useful as ever. The way in which lower rarity units are not just usable but very solid as well with the proper investment is great. Both are things I appreciate a lot.

The way in which they made everyone early on be powerful at simple generally useful niched and then branched out with more creative and inspired designs like Blemishine and Rosmontis is fantastic in my opinion. This is the right way of balancing if you ask me. (Then again I'm a massive Dota fan who believes in the "if everything is broken nothing is" school of game balance so I might be biased)

That being said, Arknights is a young game. If I'm not mistaken it's about to be 18 months old in CN and for online game standards that's almost nothing. Knowing that, I can't help but to be slightly wary of the future because of the reason mentioned above.

I'm delighted to see Hypergryph introduce outright new stuff into the game beyond just new maps, such as the new Roguelike mode that should be hitting EN in the next month and the Paradox Simulation (was it?) which adds something I've been asking for for a long time, something akin to fate episodes or interludes, a short chapter in which we can get acquainted better with characters that have gotten little to none screentime so far. All of that? Excellent. Keep it up. But I can't help but wonder where exactly is the game going to go given that 6* characters are clearly designed to be good.

For those of you that are unaware, Surtr came out a few months ago in CN and everyone instantly realized that we had a new monster in our hands. Her impact was so clearly felt that in the latest CC, Lead Sea, there's a few tags that are clearly designed to mess with her. And despite that you still see her in high risk runs, doing what she does best, laying absolute waste to everything in front of her each time she's up.

All in all I suppose what I'm trying to say here is that AK is a game I've come to love and I would hate hate hate to see it go down a bad path because of greed. I dearly hope it doesn't come to that because it would legitimately make me feel sad. It's by far my most played game in the last year, and as is I don't see myself quitting anytime soon.

And as a small foot note, how come it doesn't have anything skin to FGO's grails or GBF's rings? Something to symbolize that you /really/ like this character. I'd like to see that added because god knows I appreciate some of my characters a lot.

Relmyna Verenim makes me want to make something bad to her. Like, expose her to the same torture she performs on others... Or even better, returning her to Cyrodiil and making sure she's jailed for a lifetime.

No really, she's triggering and annoying. I was shamed for angsty stories with some torture porn, more than once in my life, but my stories are usually hurt/comfort with emphasis on 'comfort' and recovery, with author's 100% dissaprove of violence and abuse. Not like this.

Already celebrated yesterday (all by myself, with a movie and some wine. Still got leftovers). But it feels kinda sad this year.

Had a weird dream where @katyspersonal was coming to my city, I was actually meeting her at the bus terminal (not train station or airport, but a real intertown bus station that is nearby).

We were going to my place then, and... I was especially worried she would see my old PC! And what then, she would know I don't actually play Elden Ring now... would think I'm not a true fan or...? Of course now that I'm awake I think it's ridiculous, but in that dream I was worried, if only a bit.
