My Issue with the Concept of Casting Actors Who Look Like the Book Characters & Why Peeta Doesn’t Have to be Blonde and Blue-eyed to Do It for Me

I’ve never understood why it’s so important to some fans that the actors have the exact same hair color and eye color as the book characters.

I thought this issue was long solved in the THG fandom because Suzanne Collins herself was so against this idea she responded to the controversy surrounding Peeta’s casting by saying, “If Josh had been bright purple and had six foot wings and gave that audition, I’d have been like ‘Cast him!’ ‘We can word around the wings!’ He was that good.” Does it sound like she cares about an actor’s eye color, hair color, height, or even skin color?

I’m very much against adapting the original trilogy again so soon after the movies, but if it happens, I wouldn’t even mind if they cast a good Black or Asian actor as Peeta. As long as he can act and embody Peeta, he will be good for the role and I’ll support him.

Peeta’s essence as a character is not in his hair color or height. He’s Peeta because he’s genuinely kind, gentle, and canny when he needs to be. I don’t think he needs to be blonde and blue-eyed and taller than Katniss to be all of those things. Do you?

My two favorite literary characters ever are Peeta and Will Parry from His Dark Materials. It just happens that both were played by brilliant actors who got so much shit for not looking like how the fans pictured the characters to be. I’m so fed up. His Dark Materials fandom is generally not that racist compared to some huge fandoms (which isn’t to say a lot), yet some people still acted insane when they cast Amir Wilson as Will just because they always pictured Will as White, even when it was never actually specified in the books. Will has straight black eyebrows and fierce-looking eyes. That’s the extent of his physical description in the books. And people had the nerve to act offended when they cast an actor that fits that description word-for-word, just because he’s Black.

And it pissed me off so much that there are still people asking for Alex Pettyfer and Alexander Ludwig as Peeta because they’re both blonde and tall.

First of all, Peeta was never tall. He’s medium height and stocky. Those two guys don’t fit Peeta’s description as well as some people seem to think. I wonder if some of them are just projecting the traditional standards for male attractiveness on Peeta, which is ironic because Peeta is the opposite of those things, that’s part of the beauty of his character.

Second of all, casting for movies is not like picking cosplay models. Maybe consider the possibility that acting skills are more important than hair color??? I’m not going to rant about this again because Suzanne already did it. I’ll just say Alex Pettyfer or Alexander Ludwig would never give a performance as brilliant as Josh Hutcherson did in any of the movies. I know some people have a hard time telling bad acting from good acting, but I don’t, I can totally tell when an actor is good or bad, or mid. And Josh was brilliant as Peeta. I seriously don’t think there could’ve been another actor out-acting him in this role to this day, but I look forward to being surprised if they ever do another adaptation.

Hi, Bubblez! Okay, so this might seem a bit crazy, but I actually do. Now, some of the actors' ages are different from the characters, but seeing as how Hollywood does that all the time, so can I, right? Overall, though, I'd say the closest to who I see in my head would be the 20s, but there are a few that I absolutely adore here and there. There are some that I picture that are a mix of two decades. Bentley is one of those because, for 12-15yo Bentley, I see Walker Scobell (The Adam Project), but for 16+ Bentley, it's Jonathan Brandis (especially in SeaQuest DSV) all the way. Their personalities are perfect for Bentley, in my opinion. Then, there are others, like Xander, that I can almost never pin to any actors in particular.

I don't know, that's just my brain, I suppose! I hope that answers your question, Bubblez, but if it raises more questions, don't hesitate to ask! Who did you have in mind for my characters? I'd love to hear your thoughts on them.

Backstory/Background:

Gideon is born as the only child of Crispin Murray, the second, and youngest child of the notable and wealthy family of Drakon Murray. Being the grandson of such a man it was to be expected of him to one day be part of the medical franchise the Murray’s had long been a part of. But, this would not be Gideon’s future. One day, not long after his birth, he would be stolen from his family. They would be unable to find the baby. But Gideon would be found in a desert, and then he would be sent to live in an orphanage.

At this orphanage Gideon would regularly be abused, beaten most of the time, earning many of his scars during these days. He would never get adopted out. As he grew older Gideon would also begin to act out. As a teenager he would start smoking weed and become more rebellious toward the staff at the orphanage. Because of this behavior, those at the orphanage would later accuse him of acting unstable. Ultimately getting him locked up in a psychiatric hospital. For some years after this Gideon would remain in this hospital.

As he had been kept prisoner he would later learn that he was, as many others in the hospital, being experimented on. His genetics would be spliced with many genetics of other creatures, seven other creatures, to be exact. Over these years Gideon and others would be taken advantage of. But one day, as his abilities finally are awakening, both those from his birth and the experiments, he manages to create and escape from the hospital. Taking the chance at freedom Gideon flees the hospital and enters a new world all together, as it has changed a lot since he was locked up.

Also he realizes that he is not only going to be hunted down and potentially returned to the hospital. But as he is trying to escape he learns that the entflee’s, only to find that the hospital is placed on an island. Going to the shore of the island Gideon searches it for a way out, knowing that he will soon be found if he doesn’t get off the island.

As he is searching the shore a man comes to him from the sea, he hands over a crystal staff and claims that it was always meant to be Gideon's. And that it is bound to him to wield. Making him one of those destined for one of the mythical legendary weapons that have been spoken about throughout history. Gideon is informed that with the staff he will help to protect the world. The being then goes on to tell him he has family. But before they can finish helping him, shots are fired in their direction and the being has left. Not having time to think about all of this, Gideon dives into the ocean, swimming from the shore of the island in hopes to remain free.

Later, washing up on the shore of a New York beach, Gideon wanders into a suburban area where he runs into a recruiter for a circus nearby, looking for freaks and other acts for their circus. He also learns more about the organizations that have been keeping him captive and had been experimenting on him. That they are part of the groups that are also currently fighting the war that is destroying the world. TEMATICA ROJO & NEGRO FANFICTION

Ya me leí el primer capítulo que solo me tomó menos de una Hora, y vengo a compartirles a los actores que me gustan para imaginar la historia.

Primero se habla de Rose Weasley y Hugo Weasley. Mis actores elegidos para estos personajes son: Rachel Hurd-Wood (Yo sé que no tiene ojos azules, pero es mi favorita para Rose)

Hunter Doohan (Me parece genial para interpretar a Hugo, además de que es un papasito obviamente)

Luego hablan de Scorpius Malfoy y Alexander Nott. Yo sé que a muchas les gusta Alex Pettyfer para ser Scorpius

pero Toby Hemingway es mi elegido

además a rodado camaras con Chace Crawford (quien obviamente es Alexander Nott)

tienen muchas tomas juntos que me recuerdan demasiado a Rojo y negro

También se menciona a los abuelos Granger a quienes dejaré con los actores originales de Harry Potter.
