No harm to the boy
I find it interesting that Aku had no intentions to hurt Jack, when he was a young boy. In 1 episode of 1 season Aku saw and clearly knew that this young boy in the palace is Emperor's son (and he'd smell it — even before intense attacking Aku saw Jack and his parents near him), he could take young Jack in hostage and hence morally defeat Emperor (and then even to kill Jack as an act of revenge toward his father). But he ignores young Jack and catches exactly his father (although, ignoring the sword) despite the fact that Jack was closer than his father.
Tumblr media
Of course, Emperor was for Aku the main target for many reasons (the one who wields the sword and hence is the main threat that can defeat him again, the one who created the demon, rejected him and then imprisoned for many years etc), but, as pointed out earlier, Aku had a chance to revenge in very brutal way — to take Jack in hostage and even to kill him and hence to sadistically mock on Emperor. But he didn't do this. And if to look only at 1 episode of 1 season, it can give impression that Aku forgot about Jack until adult Jack returned and challenged him for a duel. Jack in Africa episode states that at least once Aku tried to find young Jack. And, again, he has no intentions exactly to kill the boy. The African bounty hunters mention that "The evil spirit promised to us treasures, if we deliver to him the child of white skin". I.e. Aku didn't order "Find and kill this boy, later bring to me his dead body" (they wouldn't be able to trick him, 'cause Aku would smell the blood and find out, whether it is Jack's body or not). His order was exactly in catching and bringing young Jack to him alive, and he mentioned nothing about the sword.
Tumblr media
Interesting, what he'd do to young Jack? Raised him as his right hand for, again, revenge toward Emperor? Would Aku tell to young Jack the truth about his conflict with Emperor? Well, sadly, the acquaintance between the brothers did not work out. I mean, it seems that Aku started to see in Jack the hated enemy and the serious threat exactly when Jack became adult and intentionally challenged the demon for the battle to kill in 1 episode of 1 season, while before... not.

atsushi: ryuu im hungry can u peel me an orange
akutagawa, popping up a second later with peeled oranges, orange flavored cake, orange juice, and menus for atsushi's favorite take out places and a list of all the possible things aku could make with the ingredients at home, and a promise to go buy more ingredients if atsushi is craving something else:

Something about bsd abilities and trauma and also literature as escapism to face reality better. Something about Atsushi's fantasy being all about strength and self healing and a rampaging "beast beneath the moonlight" when reality forces him to rely on others to heal and emphasizes his empathy and "weakness." Something about Dazai's escapist fantasy and character trope as something "no longer human" when he actually is very much human. Something about Yosano's fantasy being a world where "thou shalt not die" when reality keeps making her face death. Something about Kunikida's desires to be a "lone poet" against the world with just him and his ideals realised when reality is full of people he can't abandon. Or Kenji escaping into a world where he is "undefeated by the rain" and putting his entire soul into living that dream out. Or Akutagawa being (philosophically) consumed by his "rashoumon" when reality shows he doesn't always have to devour and overtake....

guys, you know, i am absolutely unconvinced that higuchi and aya have no special abilities
you see, bsd is an anime series where we see real life authors and poets as characters who have supernatural abilities named after their works
out of all of the characters we see in this anime, almost all of them have a real life author/poet counterpart and a special ability
and the characters who are not literary figures in real life (such as kirako haruno, the secretary of ADA) have no special abilities
it's like, the whole gimmick of the show
and guess who else has real life counterparts that are authors?
higuchi and aya!
so yeah, they most likely have abilities themselves, and i think they will eventually get revealed just like tachihara's
i am so curious abt what they could be mannn
i hope we get some badass reveals

Someone on the internet:"Chemical X is Akus essence (proceeds to give a detailed look into the theory that provides solid evidence from the shows themselves)"
Some killjoy: "BuT CrAiG McRaCkEn DeNiEd iT!!1!"

I shouldn't be worried abt the new chapter next month because the anime did stay pretty faithful to what has already been published but my brain is all 'what if...' and I need it to stop

I was watching cannibalism stageplay and found that it pointed out smth very interesting!!! Atsushi's relationship with his orphanage director/headmaster actually resembles Akutagawa's relationship with Dazai
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Both Dazai and the orphanage director/headmaster deeply abused and traumatized their students, but it is revealed that both of them did so in concern for their students' survival.
Dazai treated Akutagawa harshly so he would have the strength to live, and even thrive, in the mafia. The orphanage director/headmaster treated Atsushi harshly so that atsushi could keep living with himself when things eventually came crashing down around him (such as when the tiger went feral).
They are also both revealed to have had a rough—arguably even rougher than their students' in some aspects—life, and as such wanted to protect their students from the same pain and agony... though toughening them up through even more agony, enough so that they could persevere and survive through real awful situations later on
honestly i never even thought about this parallel before the stageplay, so this was super duper cool
(more stuff analysis about dazai under the cut!!!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
what's even more interesting is that dazai seems to acknowledge this parallel, and it's through this that we gain further insight on how he views akutagawa. It's clear that he knows full well that what he had done to akutagawa was unforgiveable, and does not expect forgiveness.
however, it's still evident that dazai cares for Akutagawa (again, still does not at all justify what he did to him, but definitely helps put things in perspective). If he hadn't, why would Dazai have put him through all that training and suffering to toughen him up, when he could have just as easily thrown him to the wolves and left him to die as a meaningless grunt in the mafia?
Dazai saw a young child, only 2 years younger than him, with a similar lack of a will to live in his eyes. He didn't need to take him into the mafia, but he did. he saw that kid with nothing else to keep him pushing through life, and sought to give him a similar home and salvation that the mafia brought him. Perhaps even better, perhaps give him the hope that dazai had wished the mafia have given him (as it is revealed in stormbringer that he had already gotten tired of the mafia after a year despite saying that he might find a reason to live bc of it in 15).
but for akutagawa to be able to find a home in the mafia (which, its clear that he does later on, such as when he was trying to bring kyouka back to the mafia) dazai had to make sure that he could survive through the bad, hence the... well, y'know. we've all memed on that one gif of dazai beating the shit out of aku. i think. i dunno maybe im just fucked up.
dazai isnt a dick to akutagawa bc he was an edgy teenager or just for shits and giggles. and he didn't push akutagawa to the fullest because he didn't comprehend how strong he actually was, pushing on a notion of weakness onto him.
dazai knows that akutagawa is strong. we know he knows. Hell, Chuuya (and atsushi too but idk if im remembering the guild aftermath scene right) knows.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So did Dazai's method of putting aku through hell to make him develop a "loathesome anger to help him survive" work? yeah. does it resemble what atsushi went through at the hands of his orphanage director/headmaster? yeah.
however, the similarities in their way of teaching doesn't end there. Dazai's method of training akutagawa resulted in an extremely low self-esteem, the kind that depends on another's approval. While atsushi doesn't necessarily depend on the approval of others, he does have a very low self esteem and rather depends on helping others to prove that he's worthy of living.
This unfortunate side effect of Dazai's and the orphanage director/headmaster's teaching method is likely unintentional, as both probably only focused on the intended outcome of strengthening akutagawa/atsushi.
so anyway idk how to end this so yeah. tldr cannibalism stageplay pointed out the parallel between atsushi's relationship with his orphanage director/headmaster vs akutagawa's relationship with dazai. as such, it helps give really interesting insight on why dazai treated aku that way.

Aku Color Theory
Aku can mimic human skin colors by using pointillism; placing varying amounts of microscopic green, red and white dots over the entirety of his body.
Tumblr media
Up close on a micro scope you could see the illusion, but with the naked eye it creates the optical illusion that he has a human skin color. Use black instead of white for a darker skin color, or use both white and black for a medium effect.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
He could do this with other colors do, such as pairing red dots with white dots to appear pink, white and black for grey, etc.

They always were here
They were here all this time. They knew all this time that the small shred of the cosmic entity survived and the human accidentally created the new creature from this fragment.
Tumblr media
I genuinely believe they are these creepy monks in this episode. Jack never told to them about his backstory and journey, but they knew about his struggle (enslaved parents and habitants of his kingdom) and said him to not give up and not lose hope. It could not be Jack's hallucinations, not to mention that in this case the monks left Jack alone to freeze to death. Plus, the monks have blue eyes, i.e. the same color of the alien gods' eyes. Not to mention the Fatoom mountain Jack tries to reach with them. Like, it is literally Jack's fatum, i.e. inescapable fate. The trio are the alien gods from "Birth of Evil" straight up.
Tumblr media
And another moment. Maybe it's a bit paranoidal, but I have no other explanations to this. Look at this guy and the vessel with the weird poison, which gave the life instead of killing. The vessel is blue, and the monk's eyes are blue too. Otherwordly blue, and in Emperor's kingdom he's the only character with this trait. And we never see him again.
Tumblr media
So, he's either another avatar of the alien gods or one of them in disguise, and exactly he made this potion or whatever it is and gave to Emperor, so he'll "destroy the evil". So, they firstly assumed that the poison will kill the fragment, but when it failed, they decided to make the sword, despite they already and before humankind emergence had weapons, which killed Aku's ancestor? They had to know that this poison will give the life instead of killing, but they didn't warn or prevent Jack's father from this. They knew that Emperor will create Aku. These sadists, broken lifes of both Aku and Jack and billions of other living beings, were here and knew all this time.

What about Aku specifically do you find so interesting?
Thought about giving a short answer, meme or even a link to an old FAQ post but if I'm not writing a big ass Aku essay then I'm dead.
The first thing we see about Aku is that he wants revenge for his past, and that, if fired upon with arrows, he will return them. Hateful, menacing, terrifying, towering over the tallest mountains. The castle he wants to burn to the ground is like a pile of blocks. Everyone who slights him will suffer.
We see why he is angry in his special origin episodes. I, too, would be angry if hunted by gods, attacked by my creator and left to rot with hatred while my brother has a nice childhood. To be silent and powerless for so long, and suddenly gain voice and strength only to have it torn away, must have been frustrating.
Then in the far future, we see a different side of Aku who, despite his evil deeds, is goofy, petulant and almost childlike in his ignorance of common sense. A derpy despot. A weird little troll! He has won, but he can't have the things he seems to actually want; He is literally incapable of getting them because he is so prone to self-sabotage. He doesn't hurt kids. He bargains with people. He apparently reads books and collects treasures out of genuine intrigue. He's even the first to extend his hand in his endless battle with Jack, offering a potential solution--a very far cry from the destructive tantrums he was introduced to us with.
The immortal Aku clearly changed with time, and one wonders if he was always so affable, if that side lay hidden beneath painful fresh wounds.
Did Aku feel the sting of the sword and remember being hunted? Jack is hated because he wields the sword, he is blessed by the gods that nearly killed Aku. It isn't even the sword that Aku truly hates, it's what the sword represents: trauma, pain, the threat of death. It's the divine bounty on his head, declaring that as long as he lives, he will live in fear of death.
Is Aku not what we are?
Are we not all wounded children in a body capable of killing one person with our hands, two more with bullets and millions with the push of a button? We aspire to be like Jack, but really, most of us are like Aku. We are lazy, complacent, probably a little too rude and wrapped up in our ego. We plaster our faces everywhere and want people to love it, to love us for our faces and the things that we do, even when most of those things are self-serving. And in the end, despite our best efforts, we will die, most likely small and afraid. Aku knows he lives on borrowed time, and he still doesn't change. He doesn't think he needs to, and no one else expects him to. But we know he's capable of it.
Aku is the futility of the human condition, personified. The worst of us...and some of the good, too.
There's an esoteric element of his appearance echoed across ancient civilizations, but a cuteness in its eyes-to-nose ratio that's expressive and endearing. There's the whole thing with the crossover element that adds a new layer onto his character. He steals every scene he's in. Perfectly casted with a once-in-a-generation legend. All while having one of the most perfectly engineered character designs by Tartakovsky and Rudish.
He's fun to write. Fun to draw. Fun to think about.
Sir, that's my emotional support treedog.

tbh i really want Atsushi to be the one that gets transferred into the PM. Not only bc he would be an important asset for Mori and not only for the sskk potential content. But because the latest arc wasn't very focused on him, and i also want the PM cast to have the spotlight for a second.
(Them interacting with Atsushi seems the best way to do that + it'd be interesting to see Atsushi's pov in an organization that does not care about principles and justice, with dynamics so different to the ada).
I'd like to see Atsushi befriending Chuuya, HIM BEFRIENDING HIGUCHI (this would be the funniest thing ever but if it actually happens it would be done very badly because it might turn out as a "jealousy" competition over Akutagawa) But think about it: Higuchi has a little sister she cares for and that's the reason she's in the mafia, Atsushi has Kyouka. They could be the poor underlings that have to be under Aku's command at first and have to put up with his nonsense. There's so much potential for bonding between them i could go on.
It would also be an opportunity to see more of KOUYOU (+ Kouyou thanking Atsushi for taking care of Kyouka pretty please??)
Plus, Mori canonically has some kind of an interest in Atsushi. If we remember chapter 15-16 he gives him advice when they get out of Anne's room (when he didn't have to at all).
Bonus situation i'd like to see: Someone pointed out that both Mori and Atsushi both like chazuke, so imagine Mori recruiting him and treating him to some chazuke like a mirror image of when he was recruited into the ADA by Dazai. But this time in a way that's off. that's uncomfortable and feels so wrong to him.

Just putting in my two cents for this episode.
One? Fukuchi is ANNOYINGLY op, sorry, but in a really interesting way so I'm also not too mad. I also get slight (just slight) vibes that he's also on the good guys' side? Either he will be defeated as a villain by the end of this or something will come up that actually, he time travel-orchestrated all this all along and he was always on the side of the good guys, idk.
Two? "Sorry, I skipped literature class"
Tachihara, you are PART of literature class
