Do you think that if the latest live action version of the games comes to be, they’d be a bit more open about the queer characters being queer? Not anything direct but not as vague as some of them are in the games?
I also wonder if they wouldn’t be held back by some of the same things the games are, would characters who receive less screen time get more of that. Really, I don’t know why I’d bother thinking about it so much right now but I must W o n d e r
Oh, like the Hollywood movie that was in the works a couple years back? I'm not entirely positive that one in specific is still going through, since Nagoshi was the one overseeing it and we haven't seen any news in years, but I suppose worst case scenario they could always do other live action adaptations.
RGG adaptations historically have next to nothing to do with the games or have any real supervision, so it depends on who's behind the wheel. Any opportunity to shake up and retell the existing stories does have potential. The original Like a Dragon movie and the stage show had Majima be a lot more forward than almost anything that was actually in the games at the time, for example, but they were still in the realm of plausible deniability.
So it'd be heavily dependent on the chosen plot, format, and priorities in the script and direction. If it's an all-new story and/or cast, well, I haven't seen Poetry of the Soul or the Yakuza prequel, so I'm not sure what the precedent is. But if it's a proper adaptation, which game/era is being adapted matters hugely for potential representation. And the format and priorities matter because a stage play, one-off film, a series of films, an average drama, and a miniseries all have vastly different amounts of time to dedicate to plot and characterization.
For example, one would expect no adaptation of Yakuza 3 would just Leave Out Mine's Motives Entirely and reduce him to a monster who wants all orphans dead, right? But the comic adaptation did exactly that. Of course, it was from Haruka's perspective and she has every right to think so, but considering the comic was specifically meant to summarize the whole of Yakuza 3 as a replacement for the wiki, choosing Haruka as the viewpoint character was a mistake from the beginning. But that's how it happened with only a few panels to tell the story, and a "plot-focused" Yakuza 3 film adaptation may make the same mistake.
In all honesty, though, I think the games have waaay more opportunities to make it work. A show might have a fighting chance, but the average RGG game now is about 48 hours, which would be grossly long for anything other than the annual NHK taiga drama (and honestly, those are still grossly long).
I personally think Yakuza: Like a Dragon is the queerest game not by virtue of having anyone declare their love but by having a host class that relies on charm in a game with only male enemies, having Essence of Titillation and Essence of Restoration work on female party members, having Ichiban get a honk-honk from a guy and it giving him the biggest stat boosts in the entire game, having those teasing hints about Nanba and Ichi or Zhao and Ichi, Having Nick In The Game Period, having the plot center around a family with two dads, having one of said dads' gender nonconformity be the most respectfully-depicted instance in the entire series (and referring to him as an actress and mother), having Ako in the game and both treating her normally and having her be voiced by a woman in the dub, having NPCs express wanting to be reborn as the opposite gender.
Like... that's the run-on sentence to end all run-on sentences, but I could go on. These Bitches Queer.

i got a couple of submissions for ishin characters, but i have chosen to omit them because i feel like it'd be unfair to clash outfits from different eras. i might hold a mini ishin/kenzan tournament later if there's interest. anyway!

Keeping in mind I haven't yet played Yakuza 5, 6 or Like a Dragon...
Blorbo: I love Majima, I can't help myself. I don't know if he would be my favorite if I hadn't started with Yakuza 0, though. It was nice to see what he was like before he went completely unhinged.
Scrunkly: Rikiya is more wholesome than he has any right to be.
Scrimblo Bimbo: Makoto Makimura, for being wonderful. And also Masaru Sera for giving Makota a cane sword.
Glup Shitto: Ako Okano (Earth Angel Mama). Her steady presence is appreciated in all the games I have played thus far!
Poor Little Meow Meow: Nishida! I don't know what he did to deserve being Majima's lieutenant, I'm just glad we get to watch!
Horse Plinko: Kiryu, obviously. Majima Everywhere was a formative experience.

Beskrajna ljubav #2
Prolazili su dani i dani, mjeseci i mjeseci. Johnny se sve vise vezao za tu osobu koju je sasvim slucajno upoznao jednog ranog jutra. Bila je sve ono sto je trazio u nekoj osobi. Iskrena, prijatna, brizna, emotivna. Vezali su se jedno za drugo iako nisu znali kakva ih buducnost ceka.
Poceli su gajiti veliku ljubav jedno prema drugom u slepo. Iako to nisu hteli jer su veoma daleko jedno od drugog. Pitao je imalo Fb da bi vidio kako izgleda uopste rekla mu je da nema. Zatim joj je zatrazio sliku da je bar vidi i dobio je par slika. Onako u kucnoj varijanti bez sminke, cupavu i bio je odusevljen izgledala je prelijepo, lepse nego sto je zamisljao a imala krupne zelene oci.
Nakon par mjeseci doposivanja bili su ludi jedno za drugim i zaljubljeni. Iako nisu znali dal ce se ikada vidjeti jer su daleko jedno od drugog. Jedne kasne veceri mu je rekla da je napisla pismo da ga je poslala.
Jednog ljetnjeg jutra zaculo se zvono. Onako sanjiv i nenaspavan Johnny je otvorio vrata ugledao postara. Imao je pismo za njega, Johnny je jedva cekao da ga otvori. Seo je za stolom na kojem je ostao upaljen laptop od predhodne noci. Otvorio je pismo u njemu je bila srebrna narukvica, dve slike njegove velike ljubavi koje jos uvjek nije vidio. Zatim je poceo citati pismo koje je glasilo:

Evo odlucila sam da ti napisem edno pismo. Vec je godinu dana kako smo zajedno hvala Bogu i eto htjela sam da ti pokazem bar na ovaj nacin (posto je sada on jedino moguc) koliko te volim i koliko mi znacis. Zahvaljujem Bogu sto mi je poslao tebe jer, ti si sve moje na ovom svijetu. Ti si jedno posebno divno bice, dusa od covjeka u koga sam se ja ludo ludo zaljubila i veoma mi je drago zbog toga, jer koliko god da si mi daleko srcu si najblize. Jeste da nam je daljina najveci problem ali ako se budemo voljeli, zeljeli uvjek da budemo zajedno, onda nam ni daljina nece biti problem. To je bila ljubav na nevidjeno jer je i Johnny bio jako zaljubljen i dan danas cuva to pismo, slike i narukvicu. Iako je daleko Johnny je odlucio poceti sakupljati novac da ode van svoje drzave, tamo negdje daleko gdje ga ceka njegova ljubav. Ako ga ceka jer ga je sva ta daljina i sve to mucilo. Jer ona je bila tako savrsena, tako savrseno su se slagali i voleli da je sumnjao u sve to. Da ipak postoji takava osoba o kojoj je mastao celog zivota i da ga voli.
Ipak toliko odlucan dosao je dan kada je poceo pakovati svoje stvari, i spremao se za put na nevidjeno. Sa milion misli dal, ce se ona pojaviti, dal ce joj se dopasti. Al ipak se spakovao i krenuo na put da je konacno vidi i upozna uzivo.

Fuwa Clan
The origins of the Fuwa Clan are obscured but they are tought to be descended from the Fujiwara Clan. During the Sengoku Period they first served the Toki Clan, then the Saito Clan. They later became retainers of the Oda and were given a domain in Echizen. Around 1582 they became subordinate to the Maeda family later on they Served the Asano clan.
*Prominent People*
*Fuwa Mitsuharu* (1526-1582) Mitsuharu was from Mino and at first a retainer of the Toki, and then the Saitô. He later joined Nobunaga and served him in a largely diplomatic capacity. He was awarded land in Echizen in 1575 and became one of the 'Echizen Triumvir' (Sanninshu: our top people in the clan that direct policy) along with Maeda Toshiie and Sassa Narimasa.
*Fuwa Kazuemon* (1670-1703) Fuwa Kazuemon was the son of Okano Jidayu and was adopted into the Fuwa family, retainers of the Asano clan in the Ako domain.He was dismissed from the Asano clan by Lord Asano Naganori in 1697 and thus became a ronin at age 27. As for the reasons for Fuwa's dismissal, it appears that he was in the habit of committing tsujigiri (Edo period thrill killing, striking down unarmed passersby at night). Fuwa was also noted for being a Kabukimono, (elements of the samurai class that dressed up in “gaudy kimonos” and engaged in “wild antics”.) Attacks by Kabukimono gangs against civilians were not uncommon during the Edo period.
As to what Fuwa did after his dismissal, this is unknown. One of the specifications of the Buke Shohatto that were in effect in 1683 stated: "...a man who has had a difference (literally hindrance) with his original lord is not to be taken into service by any other lord." So he would not have been able to obtain a position as a retainer by any other lord.
One can only speculate about the options open to a dismissed ronin during this time. Fuwa could have become an outlaw or he could have been hired by a yakuza gang as a bodyguard. However, for a man forbidden to take service under a different lord, his best hope would most likely have been to attempt to win reinstatement by his original clan lord. There were few options open to ronin in late 17th century Tokugawa Japan. Most ronin lived in poverty, effectively existing outside of the official class structure (samurai, farmers, artisans, merchants). He could have taught in a terakoya (a neighborhood school for commoner’s children). Or he could have offered martial arts lessons to commoners; it is strongly speculated that the 17th century swordsman Miyamoto Musashi, who spent most of his life as a ronin, earned some of his keep that way. Or else he could have earned his keep in fashioning piecework handicrafts.
Though Fuwa had a reputation as a skillful swordsman, there are no records that indicate that he had fought in duels. No records exist that indicated that Fuwa renounced his Buke status and became a commoner.
In 1701, upon receiving information of the death by seppuku of his former lord and the confiscation of the Ako estate, Fuwa Kazuemon rushed to Ako to offer his services in order to atone for his original offense against his lord. According to most sources, Oishi Kuranosuke, former chief retainer of Ako, rejected Fuwa’s offers of service because of his earlier dismissal from the clan. Fuwa kept persisting and eventually was allowed to join the league of Lord Asano’s avengers.(The 47 Ronin)
Fuwa Kazuemon repaid the faith shown to him by Oishi Kuranosuke. when he traveled to Edo, he stopped by Lord Asano’s grave, bowed down deeply and sincerely apologized for the offense he had committed that had caused him to be banished. During the attack on Kira’s headquarters, he killed more of Kira’s staff than any other of the Ako ronin, although it is unclear if they were one of Kira's three-five samurai or his household servants. A letter written by Fuwa while being held under house arrest after the raids establishes that the Ronin lied about the method used to kill Lord Kira. While they claimed to have dispatched him with a single spear strike, Fuwa claimed that “all the ronin present had stabbed and hacked Kira until he was dead. They sawed off his head…”.
Fuwa Kazuemon, along with his compatriots, turned himself in to the bakufu authorities. There was some discussion after the attack about whether the ronin should surrender voluntarily to the bakufu authorities or, as some advocated, should commit seppuku on the spot at Sengakuji Temple. Fuwa Kazuemon was on the side of his leader, Oishi Kuranosuke, who thought that surrender to the authorities would be best. He wrote a letter to his father where he had urged this surrender. Some scholars have argued that the decision to surrender to the bakufu authorities was a sign that the Ako ronin were convinced that this would lead to a pardon rather than death. However, most evidence suggests that the Ako ronin never expected anything other than their own deaths in any event.Fuwa Kazuemon was executed by decapitation during a mock seppuku cermemony in the second month of 1703.

Danas smo na režiji spominjali Eyes wide shut. Toliko želim da ti ispričam o sceni koju su ponovili više od 30 puta, kako bi potpuno bilo pogođeno osećanje. Nešto te danas ceo dan spominjem, čak više nego inače. I mama kada je došla kući, kaže pričala je danas na poslu o meni i tebi. Kako mi se približava prijemni, sve mi više i više fališ (ako je to uopšte moguće).
Čitam sve ono o čemu si želeo da ti pričam, kada dođem u četvrtak da ti mogu reći moje mišljenje, uvek si to voleo slušati. Moje maleno, kako mi je teško što dolazim u tvoj grad, a ti nisi tu da me pitaš jesam li sve spakovala i da me napadaš kako ću nešto zaboraviti.
