When the scheme was launched we saw the protestors all over India protested for taking back the bill. Even the protest that went around 15 days resulted in a heavy property damage of around 200 crores. During protest many trains, buses, private vehicles etc were burnt causing public as well as personal loss. The protest also came in a controversy because seeing the situation it was not real protesters but many gangs or punk who tried to protest less and disturb the peace and harmony of the society more and more. Agnipath protests: Anand Mahindra says his company will recruit Agniveers

Mahindra Group chairman Anand Mahindra said he will recruit Agniveers, the defence troops who will be hired in the Armed Forces for four years, in his tractor-to-financial-services conglomerate, the first such announcement by a major corporate house.

"Saddened by the violence around the #Agneepath program. When the scheme was mooted last year I stated-& I repeat-the discipline & skills Agniveers gain will make them eminently employable. The Mahindra Group welcomes the opportunity to recruit such trained, capable young people", he tweeted on June 20.

Agnipath row: Special security arrangements at Ludhiana railway station

A day after violence erupted at the Ludhiana railway station amid protest against the Centre's Agnipath scheme, Ludhiana Police on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday took stock of Ludhiana railway station.

In a conversation with ANI on Sunday night, Ludhiana Commissioner of Police (CP) Kaustubh Sharma said, "In view of the tensions prevailing in the state right after the announcement of the Agnipath scheme, we have made special arrangements at the station for Monday morning."

"We have done special deployment of Rapid Action Force. Many people have been arrested. We are taking action against those involved in the incident that took place on June 19," the police official said.

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala police on Sunday issued a stern warning to protesters against any kind of violent activity amidst widespread agitations in the country against the Centre’s new army recruitment scheme, ‘Agnipath’ and calls for Bharat Bandh on June 20 by some organisations. The entire force would be on duty to arrest anyone engaging in violence or destruction of public property, reported news agency PTI quoting the Kerala police.

State police chief (SPC) Anil Kant issued guidelines to the personnel to prevent violence against the public as well as forced closure of businesses, according to a release issued by the State Police Media Centre said. The SPC directed district police chiefs to ensure protection to courts, KSEB offices, KSRTC, private buses as well as government offices and institutions on June 20, it said.

Besides, police would also be putting up pickets and patrolling important locations from tonight, the release added. Kant has directed the district police chiefs to coordinate the security arrangements through the Range DIGs and Regional IGs and that the Law Department has ordered strict action against those resorting to violence, it further said

As 'Agnipath' Protests Spread, Centre Announces More Concessions

New Delhi:  With the protests against the new military recruitment scheme spreading to eight states, the government today announced 10 per cent reservation for 'Agniveers' in the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and Assam Rifles. The Ministry of Home Affairs also announced three years' age relaxation beyond the prescribed upper age limit to Agniveers for recruitment in the two paramilitary forces.

The first batch of Agniveer will get age relaxation of five years beyond the prescribed upper age limit, it said.

Section 144 imposed in Gurugram as protests erupt over Agnipath scheme

In the wake of protests against the Centre's Agnipath scheme, the Gurugram district administration on Friday imposed Section 144 CrPC as a precautionary measure to maintain law & order.

"Orders were issued as a precautionary measure to maintain the law & order situation in district Gurugram," SDM Gurugram Ankita Chowdhary said.

Section 144 of CrPC restricts the assembly of four or more persons in the district. Violators will be punished under Section 188 of the IPC.

Demonstration was reported in Gurugram's Farrukhnagar Road in Chandu and Pataudi Road on Friday morning.

Around 100 people tried to block the Gurugram-Jhajjar Road and Pataudi Road but were removed by the police.

Assistant Commissioner of Police, Sadar, Aman Yadav who was stationed at the Rajiv Chowk along with the force, said "Adequate police force has been deployed in view of the protest. No one will be allowed to disrupt law and order in the city. Traffic movement on the Delhi-Jaipur expressway is smooth".

Vice President Naidu calls for end to violence amid Agnipath scheme prots

As protests against the 'Agnipath' scheme in several parts of the country continue, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu on Friday said people have every right to protest but there is no place for violence in a democracy.

The damaging public property would be harming the nation's interests, he said and called upon people to shun extremist tendencies.

Interacting with a group of students from Jawaharlal Nehru University at Upa-Rashtrapati Nivas, Naidu called upon the people to protect the nation's unity, sovereignty and integrity and said that hatred and intolerance are not part of Indian culture.

The Vice President reiterated that India is the largest thriving parliamentary democracy and follows the principle of 'Sarva Dharma Sambhava'.

One killed, trains torched as Agnipath protests spread across India

One person was killed in police firing in Secunderabad, the first casualty of protests against the Agnipath defence recruitment scheme that raged through several states for the third day on Friday with trains torched, public property vandalised and many thousands blocking tracks and highways.

At least 200 trains were affected, 35 cancelled and 13 short-terminated, railway officials said.

As angry crowds, some armed with brickbats and stones, fanned out across large parts of India, from Uttar Pradesh to Telangana and Bihar to Madhya Pradesh, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Army chief Gen Manoj Pande were among those who stepped in to assuage concerns.

The Army chief said the government's decision to raise the upper age limit to 23 years from 21 under the scheme in 2022 will provide an opportunity to youths who were preparing to join the force but couldn't in the last two years.

The Centre's decision to increase the upper age limit will benefit a large number of youth, Shah said. He added that the recruitment process in the Army had been affected for the last two years due to the Covid pandemic and Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a sensitive decision by showing concern for the youth of the country.
