Hi! From the book rec ask game, if you want to answer any/all of these :)
16. a book you'd recommend to your younger self
41. a book about nature
55. a book with a satisfying ending
69. your favourite mythological retelling
70. your favourite poetry collection
117. your favourite anthology
Hello! Thank you for the asks :)
16. Depends on how young. I wish I had read certain old middle grade and YA books when I was a kid, but tbh most of them weren't translated or even sold here so that would be impossible to begin with. I am sad that I didn't have any Diana Wynne Jones books, for example. We did have translated Discworld books at some point though because I found some in my library (that is how I discovered the series), but I never saw them being sold around before. In my small city there weren't any bookshops when I was a kid so I got my books from supermarkets and I visited the library a lot (even if it only had really old books for the most part). That is how I ended up reading above my years and rereading fairy tales for the most part. Two shops that sold books popped up in my teens and they even sold some manga and a friend and I were so happy about it even though that kind of thing was a given in the capital hahah I visited the capital a lot in my teenage years too because I made most of my friends there. I have a kind of hate relationship with my hometown for all the things it didn't provide and things would have been so different had I grown up somewhere else. One of those things were the lack of books available which I still believe contributed a bit to everyone being so close minded around here. My first visit to the city trully blew my mind xD I was like sheep in the big city. Sorry for the personal anedocte, but the truth is I didn't even had the option to read the books that would have interested me as a kid and I am reading them now as an adult.

41. Upstream by Mary Oliver (which I am still reading...). Also a lot of Robert Frost poems.
“One tree is like another tree, but not too much. One tulip is like the next tulip, but not altogether. More or less like people—a general outline, then the stunning individual strokes.”
55. Howl's Moving Castle hahahaha it has a very nice happy ending, but I think I give this book as an answer way too much so I will try thinking of another one. I know satisfying doesn't necessarily mean happy but I always assume that is what that word means. The Goblin Emperor by Katherine Addison has a pretty nice ending too.
69. I haven't read many of those at all so I will have to go with the cliché answer The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller, which is the only book out of the 3 I read by her that I liked. I am not as interested in myth retellings as I am in reading the originals to be honest, but I am curious about The Silence of the Girls, which I only heard good things about so far.
70. I am only exploring poetry more this year so my options are limited. I am going through the complete poems by Robert Frorst and that book separates the smaller collections published before so I guess right now I would pick New Hampshire by Robert Frost, which has the most poems I like, including my favourite "Stopping by woods on a snowy evening". Collections are hard because I very seldom enjoy all the works included in the book and never at the same level when I do like all of them.
117. I do not read these either. I can only recall one anthology that I read from start to finish and that was The New Voices of Fantasy so I guess I have to say that even if it was just ok. Oh wait, this is a lie. I love "Histórias de Fantasmas" (Ghost Stories), but that is a portuguese one that has a selection of "ghost stories". I can tell which ones were included in it though. It's one of my favourite books and I did enjoy every story in it. Here's the list:
The Open Window by Saki
Afterward by Edith Wharton
The Ghost by Catherine Wells
Mr. Tallent's Ghost by Mary Webb
The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman
Nr. 17 by E. Nesbit
The Voice of a God by Winifred Holtby
A Spirit Elopment by Clotilde Graves

Well, it’s Halloween, it’s raining, it feels like I’m starting to have chest congestion shit, and things aren’t exactly great all over. A distraction is welcome.
Okay Ben, you made it seven episodes so far, congratulations. Your prize is The Exorcist.
What if it turns out Ben leapt in the same day Sam was in Coventry?
The only good priests are from Baltimore. Big if true.
Addison, jump scares are to fiction what the dab is to modern society, knock it off.
Okay, this is less The Exorcist and more Clue.
Okay, two minutes in, Ziggy is talking about exorcisms, fuck me up buttercup?
“Water closet”. Okay, so, what, 1930s? That’s where we are?
“Exorcisms aren’t real.” Ben, you’re in the world of Quantum Leap. Ghosts, angels, Bigfoot, aliens, psychics and (according to Sam Beckett) telekinesis are real.
Seriously, that kid’s face scaring makes me think this legitimately is meant to be the world of The Exorcist.
And seven episodes in, we have our first cast of “Someone can see Ben as Ben”.
“The exorcist and the demon fight for the soul of the possessed.” TONIGHT, ON MONDAY NIGHT RAW-
“Okay, what now?” “You got a Bible. Get to Bibling.”
And now the hologram technology’s getting fucky. Tell all sign of real ghost shit.
And Addison is on mute.
JUMPSCARE
Oh no, the demon’s from Supernatural!
I half expected Ian to be hiding under a table.
And the cat people portion of the audience pop the fuck off.
“Sam Beckett believed God was guiding his leaps, and that telekinesis is real. That guy was fucked up.”
“Father? The Doctor’s here.” And then David Tennant enters the room-
Ben legitimately thought he was about to score drugs.
Okay, so there’s the rub: “Look, Mr. Priest, I’m a fucking doctor, let me healthcare the problem away.”
...you’re gonna fucking lobotomize the demon.
“Joan of Arc was only 17 when she lead the French army to victory.” Counterpoint: she probably had some form of seizure, and she was slightly mentally unstable, hence why she “heard” the voice of God. Ball’s in our court.
“The wall paper moved.” Well, given the pattern of the wallpaper, you probably were just tripping.
Okay, is this girl super versed in the Bible, or is the demon playing Dr. Jekyll?
“How is she?” “Possessed?”
Called it, 1930s.
“Look, it’s the Great Depression, here’s tequila. Get crunk, Father.”
Okay, now play Hot Cross Buns.
Ma’am, I’m from 2022, maybe stay away from Hollywood.
...is the plot twist going to be the mom boinked a demon?
“It’s locked!” Okay. Break it down.
And the body count begins!
“Look, Mr. Doctor, I’m from 2022, my medical knowledge outweighs yours.”
“To know is science.” So, if you know anything, you automatically know all the science ever.
“What a scoop! A corpse!”
Ian, stay away from a poker table. You have a shit poker face.
“Look, I think the solution to the ghost shit is Reddit.” “Ian, that is the most hateful thing you have ever said.”
“Never been a gin guy.” “Well, I drank all the tequila. Get fucked.”
“Are you a priest or a constable?” Okay, I’m starting to suspect you, now.
What is this fish eye warble vision
So, the Great Depression is the real antagonist here. The ghosts of bad economics and Hoover’s bullshit.
“I’ll go see her, I’m a doctor-” “Get fucked, bitch boy, it’s Father Priest’s turn.”
Uh oh, the demon’s channeling Donald Duck.
“The demon isn’t real.” Ben, you fucking balls of steel to fucking say that at this point in the fucking episode.
...is the demon now a gorilla?
THE CEILING IS OUT FOR REVENGE!
Okay, Ben screaming bloody murder before cutting to a calm room is literally the same as the Paul Rudd GIF: “OH SHIT! ... I’m fine.”
...why would you waste a fish in this economy?
“Gives new meaning to the term ‘red herring’.” If this were a sitcom, we would be rolling credits.
I love how they are trying to act like this is Scooby Doo shit, when we have seen multiple times that there’s proof that we are dealing with real fucking demons.
Okay, all this spooky shit is getting too much, time for a break.
And now Ben is talking to himself / the audience.
“I think I might have to actually try and perform an exorcism?” And the last horse crosses the finish line.
“Oh, wait, my reflection’s a priest, I can do this. Good talk.”
And the first step to any good exorcism? Gin.
And now we’re legitimately in The Exorcist.
I love to see how they try and explain away the floating girl.
Don’t lick your teeth like that, what the fuck is wrong with you
...is Ben now possessed?
Why is Ben in the White Hot Room
“Where am I?” In a coma. Wake up.
Get the fuck out of here, are you literally telling me this IS fucking Clue?! THEY HAVE BEEN TRIPPING THE FUCK OUT ON POISONED FOOD?!
"How did they kill Aunt Tessa?” With the hammer.
Okay, good, you solved the mystery, wake up now.
Ben, wakey wakey
This is now also fucking Scooby Doo.
“Father? How did it go?” “I am not afraid to kick all of your fucking asses right now.”
Uh oh, cake stab.
“Are you saying Mr. Charles was the killer?” Interesting how you are flip flopping between demons and real killers, ma’am.
Jim Something: Master of All Poison
[Annnnnnd there’s the first Christmas commercial I have seen this year. WAIT UNTIL THE DAY AFTER FUCKING THANKSGIVING, YOU ASSHOLES.]
“The Great Depression was... ...what they are calling this period of time, now.”
...so, are we gonna explain the face scars?
Okay, so, name of the game: Fake the girl’s death, first one to break character is the poisoner.
And now Ben is channeling every fake ghost detecting psychic person.
And now she’s channeling the Undertaker.
“OKAY, I ADMIT IT, I KILLED SOMEONE AND POISONED PEOPLE, BUT THERE’S REAL DEMONS HERE!”
And now all of the dirty laundry is coming out.
And now you made the girl cry. Eat shit.
Daisy has the patience of a saint. If I was Daisy, I would be flipping them all off.
“The exorcist wins.” I wish Ben pumped his fist after saying this...
Let me guess: Janis was piggybacking off of the Imaging Chamber, and that’s why it conked out?
CALLED IT
And Ben’s reward for surviving The Exorcist? Blur - Song 2
Stealing a car to escape military school. Only in America.
Final Thoughts: I hate how I predicted the Clue twist immediately. Other than that, 10/10.

Honestly Noelle’s backstory to opening the Cyber Dark World is both wholesome and really sad at the same time. Opening her spam mail in distant hope of her easter egg hunting website having sent fanmail to there, yet only finding garbage continuously both shows her desperate hope of becoming famous and her utter determination. Connecting with Spamton to see that even as spam mail he had a sentience of some sort, enough to recognize Noelle as the only one who acknowledged his emails and read them, is sort of heart-wrenching.
I wonder if each Dark World’s secret boss is actually based off of a character’s greatest insecurities (not just Kris, but characters like Noelle). It seems Spamton and Noelle share this desperate desire to be recognized by others for their contributions. Noelle is constantly outshone by Berdly in class and never gets the chance to speak for herself. Spamton has resorted to being a spam mail ad, the lowest of the low compared to his fellow Addisons.
Tumblr media
This also ties into Noelle’s connection with Kris. Kris is one of the only folks that seems to recognize Noelle for herself and not competition or a piece of wallpaper. That is why the piano segment is so important to her, that concert felt like a nod of acknowledgement to herself, it felt like it was played just for her. She felt like she was both the audience and the spotlight. The emphasis of eyes feels symbolic. Open eyes is a view of reality, insecurities, to survey the situation. Closing one’s eyes is like entering a dream, a pseudo-sleep, and it seems to be a wish-fulfillment for Noelle. It feel like the center of attention, pardon my pun, but all eyes on her.
Tumblr media
And this connects to the odd poster where Spamton has superimposed his face over every single character, including Noelle, except for Kris. To Spamton, it’s a similar situation where he feels that Kris has recognized him and understands his plight. Kris understands Noelle’s feeling of being ignored and overlooked just as they understand Spamton’s similar feeling as well as being made a conduit rather than being one’s own self. Kris is the ultimate everyman - they seem to understand all their friend’s insecurities and fears and is able to sympathize with them and even alleviate such insecurity for brief periods. This poster can also be symbolic of Noelle’s feelings towards Kris, no one else, Darkner or Lightner, seems to understand her as much as they do.
This leads into an interesting question: Who does Jevil correspond with (Susie or Kris?) and who will the secret boss of Chapter 3 correspond with (Toriel, Kris, Susie and possibly Undyne?). I have a sneaking suspicion that Jevil probably corresponds with Susie, as she comes into her own at the end of Chapter 1 just as Noelle does in Chapter 2. I also have a suspicion that perhaps Chapter 3′s secret boss will correspond with Toriel more so than Undyne as it seems that characters closest to Kris get their feature. Toriel is incredibly close to Kris, being their mom and all, and perhaps she will come into her own by the end of Chapter 3.

Placing a hand over your rounded stomach you sigh softly as you look around the small room. There’s opened boxes piled up in one corner of the room and the floor is littered with wall art decorations and a tall potted plant as well as other things to decorate the soon to be nursery.
You and Jack had already painted the room a light heather grey color on three sides and on the fourth side you decided to put up three quarter length wood panels in dark hunter green and white and green leaf wallpaper. The wall is where the distressed light wood crib stood all done up with a star speckled bed sheet and a hand quilted baby blanket draped over the edge of the crib that was made by Addison. The blanket is absolutely stunning and so soft; Addison had managed to find different quilt squares with little graphics that meant something to both you and Jack. As you sat there staring at it from the floor you felt happy tears begin to pool in your eyes.
You could see a blue square with silver sparkly stars on it, as well as a black square with green shamrocks, and then there was a square with the Statesman logo that Addison had specifically made for this project of hers. Just by staring at the blanket you could feel the love and time that she put in to the project and you were so proud of her artwork. Slowly standing from the floor you moved over to the crib and lightly traced your hand along the railing. In just a few short months your little one would here and you honestly couldn’t wait to meet them.
You and Jack had decided that you weren’t going to find out the sex of the baby beforehand and that you would keep it a secret. And while Tequila and most of the family were annoyed about it they respected your decision. In fact if rumors were true there was a betting pool on the sex of the baby and the due date. Just last week Tequila kept hinting that he needed to go into labor two days after your due date. Smiling softly you turned from the crib and looked at the wall decorations that you had laid out to figure out where each would go.
“Alright so I’ve got a step ladder and some tools. Have you figured out where you want the clocks?” Jack asked as he walked into the nursery carrying a step ladder and a tool box. He beamed over at you as you turned to him with a bright smile. You watched as his eyes glazed over a little and you chuckled softly. He’d been doing that a lot lately, just gazing at you with this lovey dovey look in his eyes. When you had teased him on it he had told you that you just glowed while you were pregnant with his baby. Nodding over to the corner that didn’t have the boxes in it you picked up one of the clocks and the letter decals that you had bought.
After you had perused pinterest for ideas for the nursery you had found a very cute idea of hanging different clocks to show the different time zones of certain cities that meant something to you and Jack. The two of you had decided on three different clocks one was for Kentucky since that’s where you were stationed in Statesman, the second was for Colorado since that was where your first mission with Jack was, and the third was for Sydney since that was where the two of you had taken your honeymoon. You smiled softly as Jack set up the step ladder and began to climb it before looking down at you with a bright smile.
“What?” you asked smiling back at him.
“Just a different perspective of my pregnant wife.” He mused softly and you laughed brightly at him.
“You’re such a cheeseball.” You teased him before handing him the decal for Kentucky. “So that’s going to go above the clock.” You instructed him softly and he made sure to place each word and clock on the wall to your liking.
“So that’s where you’re going to put the rocking chair?” he asked as he moved the step ladder away from the corner.
“Yup, figured the baby would be interested in seeing the clocks as we rocked together at bedtimes.” You mused softly with a smile. Jack wrapped his arms around your large belly from behind as he nuzzled his face into your neck.
“That’s a good idea darlin’.” He complimented you and you smiled warmly as your hands came up to cover his own. The two of you hummed as you both felt the hard kick coming from within. “So baby’s awake huh?” he asked softly.
“Mmhmm, it’s the active hour for them. Likes to kick and punch as hard as they can to keep me on my toes.” You said softly with a smile. You loved this period of being pregnant, you were over the morning sickness and while you were constantly tired at least now you were a little bit more used to it. But what you really loved was the nesting feeling that you constantly had now. Your body was getting ready to give birth and the feeling of getting everything ready was such a rush for you.
“Ya know, I can help with calming them down.” Jack cooed to you and you smirked softly at his words.
“You just want pregnant sex.” You teased him and he barked out a delighted laugh.
“Well I ain’t gonna lie to you.” He sing songed and you shook your head with a happy smile. Jack had been smitten with you as soon as your belly began to grow. He was constantly touching you whether it actually be on the belly or anywhere on your body he was touching. And it was like his libido had been dialed up to the max as soon as your body started showing. The man just couldn’t get enough of you.
“Let’s get the rest of these pictures up before we get to that. Okay?” you suggested softly patting his hands.
It had only taken you and Jack another hour before the room was done up to your liking. You smiled as you looked around the room your eyes darting to each piece of artwork on the walls. You had asked certain family members and friends to each pick out a piece of artwork that meant something to them so that the little baby had a representation of each important person in their life. There was a silhouette painting of a cowboy on a bucking bronco from Tequila, there was a stunning photo of Boston’s North End from Murdock, there was pair of beautiful water color paintings of fields of flowers from both Rachel and Charlotte, there was an old photo of the Daniel’s farm from Memaw, and finally there were three framed photos of the Daniel’s family and Tequila at different holiday celebrations from Addison.
You loved the eclectic collection of wall hangings from each family member and felt your heart do a little flutter in your chest as you saw the love from each member of the family. Taking in a deep breath you sighed.
“It looks wonderful darlin’.” Jack said softly as he pressed a kiss to your temple as he stood next to you in the nursery. He wrapped an arm around your shoulders and tugged in close to his side before he began peppering kisses all over your face.
“Mmm, Jack. Not here.” You said softly and he lifted his head to gaze down at you. His eyes were clouded with lust as his hands skimmed up and down your sides his thumbs grazing against your swollen belly. He blinked slowly before he began to look around the room and now.
“You’re right. Not here.” He said softly and you smiled as he quickly turned you and marched you out of the nursery and to your bedroom.
Once there he quickly nudged you onto the bed and you fell backwards with a soft grunt. Scooting back on the bed you yelped when Jack grabbed your ankle and yanked you back over to him where he was standing at the edge of the bed. “Like this. I wanna make love to you right here.” He husked out and you felt your body flush with arousal. Nodding your head you began to tug your loose long tank top from your body. Jack’s hands came to help you as he slid them over the skin that was soon exposed.
He hummed softly when he saw that you weren’t a bra and his large hands came to cup your growing breasts. You moaned loudly and your head flung backwards as you leaned back on your elbows. Jack grinned at how sensitive you were to his touch. Your chest was heaving now as you tried to suck in air as his caresses began to travel from your breasts to your ever growing belly. His hands glided softly across your tight skin and you moaned again in pleasure feeling the ticklish touch soothe your skin.
Soon his fingers were hooking in the waistband of your yoga pants and he was sliding them from your body throwing them over his shoulder. His hand came up to your shoulder and pushed you to lie back on the bed. His eyes were lit with a passionate fire as he gazed down at you.
“Damn darlin’ you look ethereal.” He husked out as his hands slid up from your knees over your thighs letting them fall open. “Absolutely stunning.” He whispered to you as his eyes settled on your covered core. You whimpered softly when you felt one of his knuckles graze lightly against your clit.
“Jack please.” You begged him and his eyes snapped up to yours before he growled and quickly dragged your underwear from your body. “No foreplay. I’m so wet for you.” You whispered out to him and Jack grunted softly as he watched your thighs fall even farther open.
“Fuck darlin’.” He hissed out his thumb coming up to part your lips and he groaned when he saw how slick you were for him. His hands left your body hurriedly and you heard the belt buckle on his jeans clatter and clink. Soon he was stepping closer to the edge of the bed and gripped your thighs pulling you closer to him. You tried to look down your body to see him but your belly was in the way and you huffed as you rose to your elbows. When you were finally able to see, he had his hard cock in his hand as it stroked it slowly before lining it up with your entrance. The head of his cock notched into your entrance and you moaned loudly as you fell back to the bed. Your body arched up as he slid further and further inside of you and your hands came up to grasp at your breasts. “That’s it darlin’.” Jack moaned out as he watched your hands hungrily.
The pace was slow and languid as he gazed at you from the edge of the bed. He could see every inch of your delicious body as he thrust into you. He watched as your hands kneaded and gripped at your breasts before plucking at your nipples. Your mouth hung open as moan after moan escaped you. You were so beautiful to him and the fact that you were carrying his child made his whole body heat with arousal. “Darlin’, fuck. I’m not gonna last.” He said almost with embarrassment. He watched you thrash your head from side to side as your own pleasure coursed through you.
“I’m so close Jack.” You whimpered out and Jack trailed his hand over your hips before his thumb connected with your clit and began rubbing soft circles around the bundle of nerves. You squealed softly at the sensation and Jack grinned knowing that he was going to be sending you into outer space in a moment. You breasts were bouncing as your chest heaved. “Oh! Jack! Jack!” you suddenly cried out and one of your hands came to latch onto his wrists as he felt your walls closing around him.
“Fuck!” he shouted out as he buried himself deep inside of you and stayed there just feeling your walls fluttering around him. He groaned when suddenly his release burst from him. You moaned tiredly shaking your head slowly from side to side.
When the two of you had come down from your highs Jack slowly pulled out and walked to the bathroom grabbing a warm wash cloth. He gently swiped the cloth all along your body cleaning you of the sweat you had built up and then cleaned softly between your thighs. When he discarded the washcloth he came back to lift you up in the bed and place you down on the pillows where you snuggled in under the blanket. Jack smiled softly at you as he slid in next to you and your body curled into his. You placed a soft tender kiss on his chest over where his heart beat rapidly before you hummed and settled against him.
Jack couldn’t help the wide smile that formed on his lips as he snuggled in closer to you and slowly let his eyelids drift closed. Quickly falling asleep with you in his arms and a warm large hand resting on your belly.

mommakittysworld replied to your photoset “Rachel Chavkin receiving the Tony Award for Best Director of a Musical...”
I wouldn't watch a film that was directed or produced by a woman just because I dont think I'd be interested in it. I like horror. The more disturbing, the better. I just dont think most women have the right personality to create a good horror film. I hate comedy, and especially romance. My tastes aren't very feminine.
Ok so, I received this reply on my post about Rachel’s speech on the Tonys. I’m going to block this person outright and I won’t engage in any type of conversation with them. However, I want to post this reply with two intentions:
1) I appreciate when blogs I follow show these kinds of behavior toward their content so that I can block them and not have to cross paths with them in the future. I highly advice you not to engage in conversation with them, not even to dissent, but if you find their answer as insulting as I did, you might want to block them.
2) I am going to take this opportunity to talk about a very favorite subject of mine: women in horror. Here is a list of several women who have created content in the realms of horror in the past or who are doing it today, from various standpoints, with various origins and for very different tastes, as well as a selection of examples of their work (there’s so much more they’ve done!). Tread with caution because horror is not devoid of triggers. Whatever I haven’t seen or read in this list is at least included in my to-watch/read lists. This person might not appreciate them, but I know someone out there will.

📱 Found Phone: Larry x reader
I decided to do a lost phone au rather than switched phones au, this just was easier to write and came out way better imo. Hope you like it still. And it is gender neutral♡
Tumblr media Tumblr media
My favorite band blared in my ears as the city bus drove down the road. It pulled up to one of the stops collecting two new passengars. The look of these two caught my eye. They both looked like they were my age, one a short blue haired boy wearing a prosthetic face and pigtails, the other a handsome tall guy with long brown hair.
I couldn't help but admire them on the bus ride. The brunette briefly caught my glance smiling at me, I smiled back looking away with a blush. Not too long after they had gotten off at a stop and they were gone just as quickly as they had appeared. I turned my attention to the new song that was playing until we pulled up to my stop. I jumped up and on my way off the bus I noticed a phone sitting in the spot where the brunette had been sitting. Looking around I grabbed the phone before shuffling off the bus.
When I made my way into the cafe my friend Alexis was waiting. I took a seat across from her a smile on my face. The waiter came over taking our orders as I anxiously waited to tell her about the mystery guy and his phone.
"Kay dude what's with the smile?"
"I just met the cutest guy on the bus! Ok well really didnt meet but saw."
"That's great babes. Did you get his number?"
"Well no but he left his phone."
"Dude! Why didnt you turn it into the bus driver?"
"What if, um, if he calls his own cell phone to find out who found it and I answer and we start talking and we fell in love. I mean wouldn't that be a great story? Kind of like a fairy tale for the digital age!"
"Yeah… That does sound great. What if he already has a (boyfriend/girlfriend/partner) and they call helping him look for it?"
"Well then I guess I'll just let them know to come pick it up."
"Ok sounds like a good plan. Before you start picking out wedding China why dont you look through the phone see what hes into first? For all you know he could be a total creep."
"Good idea! This is why we're friends."
I moved over next to her in the booth. It wasn't the latest phone but wasn't the oldest either. It had a crack on the corner but besides that looked in good shape. Luckily he didnt have a password set and we were able to get right into his phone. The lockscreen was a band logo for Sanitys fall and the wallpaper was a photo of him with a group including the blue haired guy from earlier. "Think he's dating the blue haired guy?" I asked observing the photo. "Nah look at the way that guys looking at the chick in purple. They're probably a thing." She suggested.
We opened his gallery next noticing it was full of more photos of the group including some where the blue haired guy and the girl in purple were acting very couple like. "Think this is his mom? Shes pretty." Alexis asked zooming in on the woman. "They do look exactly alike I bet so." I said with a nod. "I dont see any of his dad in here though. She also noticed. We switched albums seeing one labelled art, it was full of pictures of pages from sketch books to full on canvases all of beautiful artwork. "Damn he's pretty good dude!" Ehe exclaimed admiring a portrait of the woman we assumed was his mother. "Hes really talented!" I agreed shocked.
"Let's see who he texts most that will tell us who to call to get him his phone back and get you a date." Alexis suggested. I opened up his messages seeing the name Sally Face up top followed by mom. "Sally is a chick's names what if (she's his girlfriend already/he isnt into guys)?" I asked nervous. She put a comforting hand on my back clicking into the Sally Face convention. We scrolled through quickly realizing Sally was a nickname for a guy names Sal, the one from the bus. "Ok you've found no sound of him dating someone. Call Sal and tell him you found this Larry guys phone and you two need to meetup to get it back to him." Alexis said grinning like a Cheshire cat." I nodded taking a deep breath before pressing call. It rang for a few minutes before someone picked up.
"Hello?"
"Hi is this Sal? I found your friends phone on the bus. You were the last person he contacted so."
"Oh great someone found it! Hey Larry come here. "
"Hello? Sal tells me you found my phone."
"Hey yeah you left it on the bus. Is there somewhere we could meet up so I could return it to you?"
"That'd be awesome dude. Can you meet me at Addison Apartments? If not the lake or a restaurant in town would be fine."
"The apartments work. What apartment?"
"Just go out back theres a treehouse there say 6 tonight?"
"Ok see you then. Bye!"
"Bye!"
I hung up the phone smiling at Alexis. She high fived me smiling back. "Ok we're going shopping after this. I'm so excited!" She cheered clapping her hands. "Calm down we still dont know that he'll have any interest in me." I laughed. "Psh unless he's a blind idiot he won't! Now finish eating we have work to do!" She commanded sipping her drink. When we finished our food and paid ahe practically dragged me to the clothing stores near by. After about two hours of shopping I was dressed and looked super hot. At 6 she drove me to the apartments.
"You look great! Now go get your prince charming!" She cheered again. I rolled my eyes hugging her before making my way to the back of the apartments. Sure enough there was a big tree with a handmade treehouse nestled in its branches securely. Sanitys Fall could be heard playing from the top, this was definitely the right place. I climbed up the ladder seeing him sitting in a bean bag chair.
He looked up from his sketch book smiling. "Hey I assume you're the one who found my cell phone huh?" He asked setting his stuff to the side standing up. "Yep that was me." I beamed pulling his phone from my pocket handing it to him. "You're a life saver my dude. I'm Larry but I'm sure you saw that in the phone somewhere." He smiled extending his hand. I shook it smiling. "(Y/n). I'm just glad I found you." I smiled my cheeks probably getting red. "I'm lucky such a cute person found my phone." He winked making me blush more.
The two of us spent hours talking in his treehouse before his mom called him for dinner. When she noticed me she told him to invite me in for dinner as well. It was a lovely meal and I got to know them both pretty well. Larry and I practically kept flirting and had so much in common it was crazy. When he walked me out that night he handed me his phone again. "Put your number in this time cutie." He said with a wink. And that was just the beginning of our long happy relationship.

The Exorcist
Tumblr media
William Friedkin’s horror masterpiece, released 45 years ago this holiday season, was largely set in the collegiate Washington D.C. neighborhood of Georgetown. The Georgetown of the early 1970s was a bit less posh than the neighborhood today, but even at the height of the eponymous school’s frattiest years, the area was chockablock with Federal-style and early American architecture. The university itself is heavily featured in both book and film (author William Blatty was an alumnus), as are establishing shots of the Key Bridge (formally, the Francis Scott Key Bridge, built in 1923) that spans the Potomac.
Tumblr media
The infamous “Exorcist Steps,” which run from Prospect down to M Street, were even honored as such by the city in a 2015 ceremony.
Tumblr media
As previously established, I was raised Catholic-lite: First Confessed but barely Confirmed, aka Catholic enough to be disturbed by the Exorcist but not Catholic enough to have picketed the movie. Although in 1973 I was but one year old, and that would have been a very tiny and cute picket sign in my chubby fists, maybe “Former Fetuses Against Friedkin” or something like that. Anyway! I first watched the Exorcist with my atheist-raised high school bestie, and at the time we both agreed that it was just unsettling enough to raise some doubts about God and the Devil. Also about the wisdom of fucking around with a Ouija board.
Tumblr media
No girl! Captain Howdy is not your friend, ma petite.
My second viewing of the film was as a full-grown adult, when the director’s cut was released in 1999. I now realized the true horror of this story was just under foot: the ugly carpeting in that awesome Federal-style townhouse!
Tumblr media
The MacNeil residence’s main floor has herringbone parquet in the kitchen, dining nook, and study, but the rest of the house is covered in that ugly-ass, low-pile fuzz bomb. I could barely register Regan’s infamous spider walk down the stairs, I was so distracted by that gross carpeting.
I couldn’t stop thinking about it. Why would you ruin such a historic property? How could you commit such high crimes against the herringbone? But then I did some research, and sigh, I was all wrong. You see, the Exorcist house, aka the MacNeil Residence, wasn’t built until 1950.
Thus, that carpeting makes total sense, as does Chris MacNeil (Ellen Burstyn)’s bedroom style.
Tumblr media
The furniture is Federal-style but the wallpaper and (blech) carpet are definitely 20th century.
Regan doesn’t seem to be into carpeting much, either, given her tinkle on the Persian rug. I just love the reaction expression on Father Dyer’s face after Regan pisses the floor. By the way, that character was played by a real live priest, Father William J. O’Malley:
Tumblr media
Speaking of priests, Father Damien Karras (Jason Miller) pretty much wiped out any remaining Catholicism lingering in me. I never met a priest half as handsome, and thus that confirmed that there must be no God.
Tumblr media
Mon dieu, he is a tasty sacrament. O la la...
There was so much myth and legend surrounding The Exorcist, it’s sometimes hard to remember there was some bona fide weird shit happening as well. An actual serial killer makes an appearance in the film (okay, alleged serial killler, but convicted murderer). Friedkin shot the hospital imaging scene at New York University Medical Center, and used an actual neurosurgeon and his team as extras. Paul Bateson was an X-ray technician on staff at the hospital and made it into the scene, with a line to boot.
Tumblr media
Bateson was arrested in 1979 for the murder of film critic Addison Verrill (an act committed during a date gone terribly wrong). While incarcerated at Riker’s, Bateson boasted to other inmates that he had murdered at least six other gay men. The details he provided were eerily similar to the “Bag Murders” that had terrified the NYC gay community in 1977 and 1978, when the bodies of missing queer men turned up in the Hudson River. The victims were all dismembered and disposed of in plastic bags, just as Bateson described. The police were never able to assemble enough evidence to charge Bateson, so he instead only served his sentence for the death of Verrill. William Friedkin had already been approached earlier to shoot a film based on the 1970 novel Cruising, but he passed on the offer until the Bateson arrest. Friedkin was so disturbed and intrigued by this story and his own connection to the murderer, he ended up making the film.
There are a lot of other fables about the Exorcist curse, which are mostly explained away easily. I personally was a bit haunted when doing my research, thinking about Georgetown Preparatory School and this past year’s shitshow Supreme Court nomination hearing. Even though Georgetown Prep separated from the University and moved to Bethesda, MD in 1919, the name is still triggering. Dr. Christine Blasey Ford still cannot live in her own house, due to death threats, and the accused sits clear and free on the highest court of the United States. Believe women. Why the fuck would we go through this torture a second time, if we weren’t telling the truth?
Here’s to hoping for a better 2019. I made it through a year of blogging about my special obsession, hurray! I’m going to keep this going as long as there are interesting architectural examples in 1970s horror movies. January is going to get weird, so stay tuned. I love you all, you sexy demons. Tabernak!

Getting to know you better
Rules: Tag 10 followers you want to get to know better.
Tagged by: @independence1776 and @gabriel-seven
Star sign: Aires
Gender: Female
Height: 5′2″ (short)
Sexuality: Heterosexual and hopelessly romantic, and not at all unhappy to be single (finally!)
What image do you have as wallpaper?:
I have no wall to paper at the moment--using two borrowed/gifted laptops at the moment, my computer crashed and burned. Feels like a death in the family. We worked together for eight years. Shopping and scrambling to put funds together ATM. Then I will pick something truly awesome to honor the accomplishment.
If you could be anywhere else right now, where?: Santa Fe, New Mexico or Paris (with a working computer and good internet).
Where do you see yourself in ten years?: Still alive if I can keep my shit together.
What’s your favorite 90s show?: I can’t even remember ‘90s TV (was in Mexico at the time); except for the Truly Fake News (wow--still heavily censored by ruling party of 60 years) and a children’s telenovela Carrusel de Niños--remember that because it was pretty good for the genre (class and racial diversity in the storyline) and daughter worked as child-dubber on the soundtrack for English-language countries (notably not the U.S.--it did well enough there in Spanish).
Last kiss: My daughter and my grandson--over the weekend went out with a bunch of women for dinner and they were big-time meet and greet kissers. I am a fan of kissing in general. Got used to it working in Mexico for years. I like physical contact,
What was your coolest Halloween costume?: It was a joint effort--my daughter and I dressed as Juliet and her Nurse, based on  Zeffirelli's Romeo and Juliet. We rocked it big time and it was for a party in the Village of fabulous gay men--so it had to have been good if they thought it was.
Have you ever been stood up?: Personal/dating, or waiting for family in public places, or work-related??---all of the above! I get around.
Have you ever been to Vegas?: Nope. And never regretted it.
Favorite pair of shoes: Black ballet flats with NO arch support, but I wear them all the time with everything (cannot do heels). I need a new pair--they are shot and I cannot live without them.
Favorite fruit: Strawberries.
Stupidest thing you’ve ever done: Ran through my retirement money helping my n’er do well son and his family.
Favorite book: The list of Great Books I’ve been obsessed with is endless. Besides Tolkien’s books which have almost become my occupation, I love Swordspoint by Ellen Kushner, The Last of the Wine by Mary Renault, and Goblin Emperor by Katherine Addison.
Favorite GIF: I posted a set of GIFs of Yuzuru Hanyu jumping yesterday. His big jumps are art instead of padding for points or desperate under-rotated garbage.
Tagging: only if you feel like doing it, of course! (If you’ve already done it, tag me!) @keiliss, @drummerwench, @vanimore, @just-ann-now, @dawnfelagund, @grundyscribbling, @cycas, @thebyrchentwigges, @starspray and any of you want to do it.

Name: Frank (Frances)
Star sign: gemini
Gender: female
Height: with shoes on 5′6″ (actually 5′5″ and a 1/2 that half pisses me off so much)
Sexuality: like the song bi bi bi
What image do you have as a wallpaper: my orange cat holding my hand while we’re in bed
Where do you see yourself in 10 years: doing some kind of nursing thing! Whether in a hospital, school, or teaching it. Possibly some place warm. Probably not.
If you could be anywhere else right now, where: on a warm beach with my stack of books I want to read, someone attractive handing me drinks with little umbrellas in them, and a cat I can pet.
What was your coolest Halloween costume?: I am the epitome of not cool, especially costumes. Fuck, I dunno not sexy witch count?
What’s your favorite 90s show:  Animated or live-action? I still have a big soft spot for Highlander and Magnificent Seven. Otherwise, Batman: The Animated Series
Last kiss: A Lady never kiss and tells~ But really, it’s been a while.
Have you ever been stood up: Nope, although I totally went on a not-date to get a free meal. That was probably worse?
Have you ever been to Vegas: When I was underage, so what was even the fucking point?
Favourite pair of shoes: A pair of black sandals that are beat to shit but fuck they’re the most comfortable thing in the world, otherwise, knee high boots.
Favourite fruit: really tart granny smith apples
Stupidest thing you’ve ever done: I’m going to go with funny rather than dumb shit that dumb white people do, or young people with too much anxiety. Instead, when I was in second grade (so I Ought to Have Known) and had long hair that I kept back with metal clips, I was alone in some room at school. I suspect school because I was in there, a lot. Anyway, there’s an electrical outlet near me and I was playing with my hair clip, because my hair doesn’t actually stay in place, ever. And you know, there’s a hole and a thing that could go in the hole, and well, while math wasn’t a strong subject for me back then, one plus one does equal 2. I put a metal hair clip (let me repeat, a metal hair clip) into an electrical outlet. There have been very few feelings that have been uncomfortable as getting shocked through a hair clip. Also, I couldn’t wear it after that, so that was a bummer.
Favourite book: Picking just one is like picking a favorite child or worse, picking a favorite pet. I am still really fond of Belgariad/Mallorean series by David and Leigh Eddings, Memory (Bujold), Mark Waid and Samnee’s Daredevil run, Goblin Emperor (Addison), Scurvy, I reap you not, All Systems Red, T. Kingfisher’s short story collections, and True Porn Clerk Stories, among so many many others.

Things I noticed on my...latest ZOMBIES rewatch
There's a bus stop in Zombietown. Do they actually have a bus service?
Zed's bedroom wallpaper is old west themed
Among his possessions are: a paddle, a snare drum, a pair of skis, a quilt, a lamp with a boot as its stand, football equipment, baseball and mitt, toy car, skipping rope
His bed has a different head and endboards (red and turquoise)
His pillow is red plaid
Seabrook football 1965
There's a basketball and a bunch of toolboxes on top of his locker
There's actually a lot of exercise/fitness equipment, which he clearly doesnt know how to use properly
There's nothing in Addison's room except cheer trophies and pom poms and maybe some stuffed rabbits on a counter under the trophy shelves
There's a few pictures of herself in her room, all with wigs
She owns baseball caps
She does have a pink bathroom off her bedroom
The pictures in Zeds hall are just the three of them, no sign of his mother
There's a door at the bottom of the stairs beside the kitchen
Zeds room is upstairs
The Kitchen
Zoey drawings literally everywhere
There are only 3 chairs, maybe a high chair hiding behind the counter
Ironing board and basket in the kitchen
There is a wooden chair with a high back and a mirror and coat hooks in the kitchen??
There's a wooden bird on the wall beside the ironing board
I think they made a clock out of tennis raquets
There's a door beside the door from the hall to the eating area
The kitchen is off the side of the eating area
This is old news, but Zevon's world's greatest dead mug
There's a banner above the pictures of the kids in the eating area that says family in crayon
Zoey has a plush bone for Zander
The Wells' kitchen is green and mauve, with pink squares on the walls?
Cupboards are all white, the counter extends into an island, they all have matching pink water bottles
They don't even have cupboards, they're all drawers
Even the candy is pink and green
Bar stools and a table
The Wells live at 6. Zed lives at Z-224a
Do they actually park their cars in the garage? BC the driveway is empty
There's a pink tree in the front yard
They live in a cul de sac
Zed lives in a dead end that's fenced off
Eliza lives at Z-223a.
The zom kids are clearly used to hanging out at the old power plant
There's a pier beside the beach
The signs at the high school read "NORMALS" and "ZOMBIES". Which seems pretty Seabrook
Seabrook Cheer Champions since 1959 on the concrete outside the school. So, assuming they've been winning cheer since the outbreak, the plant accident happened in 1959, 49 years from 2018
But that doesn't match the 1965 football date in Zed's room
Addy and Bree are both wearing watches on the "Z band hand"
Bree and...no one else wears glasses
Stacey sees Zed and screams rogue...does nobody in Seabrook actually know what a rogue zombie looks like?
There's a pile of textbooks in the basement, so these kids are going to get some kind of education, even if Mr. Zek is kinda useless
Why are there so many colanders in the safe room? I get it, we need one so the room looks pretty during Someday but there are a lot
Addy and Bree are 23 and 24 at cheer tryouts
Actually, almost all the humans wear watches
Bree is the only person at tryouts wearing a pattern
I think she's also the only person wearing glasses. And they are pink
There's nothing alive in Zombie town. Its all lights and dirt
Zeds got a basketball hoop
Bonzo wears a fanny pack AND a backpack
Most humans wear pink or blue. Most zombies wear purple or green.
The SHS motto is Squilla Forti Semper (always mighty shrimp)
And thats just the first 30 minutes

DIY FALL DECORATING - Historic Homes Edition Now that we’re officially in the Fall Season here in the United States, I’m ready to prepare my home for colder weather with a cozy revamp. To inspire you to make your historic (or maybe just older?) home feel more like Autumn in the Northeast, I’m showing you 10 of my favorite DIY decor projects for Fall. *this post contains affiliate links* I get a commission when you buy through my links that goes towards the costs of hosting this free tutorial site. Site operating fees are expensive but my commission costs you nothing. thanks for your support! Fall Decor: Autumn Updates for Old Houses The cozy, chilly nights of Fall call for more textures and layers all around your home. That doesn't mean you need to throw out all your old decor and replace it with orange and brown. So before you head to the Target Dollar Spot, here are 20 easy ways achieve the look of a Historic Home in the Fall that will save you money and time. I love Fall. It’s my favorite season of all the seasons. The air is crisp and everything smells a little like cloves and cinnamon. That said, I don’t go all-out with Fall decor anymore. I used to drape massive garland all around my front door and buy out the pumpkin selection at my closest grocery store. A few years ago, it occurred to me that if I love deep, rich accent colors and luxury textiles like tweed, I could just start incorporating them into my everyday life - all year long. So I do. My home’s color palettes are pretty reflective of the seasonal decor you’d find at any home store. For me, there’s no reason to make sweeping changes to my decorating style. Instead, when I update my home for the fall season, I bring in items from nature that are reflective of the changes we’re seeing outside. Like the last bit of my Boston Ferns that have been holding out since Spring and these nearly-brown hydrangea blooms from my backyard. My daughter and I have a collection of nature objects that we keep all the time. We both enjoy collecting rocks, pine cones, corns, and other miscellaneous foliage during our walks around the neighborhood. Since these items are representative of the time we spend together, I have a natural to display them in our home. She’s proud of what she’s collected and the items tend to reflect the season as well. NATURE-INSPIRED HOME DECOR PROJECTS FOR FALL I tend to display our foraged items in bowls and baskets (a vase full of acorns really make my squirrelly heart skip a beat) but there are lots of creative ways to show off your natural findings. Here are some of my favorite bloggers’ DIT projects for nature-inspired seasonal Fall decor - DIY Fall Leaf Display Tylynn at Bitter Root DIY shows you how to use a store-bought ornament to create a sweet homage to fall with her DIY Fall Decor – Framed Leaf project. It’s a simple and quick woodworking craft that will make you feel like you can build anything. Skill Level: Intermediate Fall Leaves In A Vase Not only is Addison from Addison’s Wonderland Blog, one of the most talented designers I’ve seen, she’s also a woman after my own heart when it comes to seasonal decor. In her Historic Fall Home Tour, she shoes you how to incorporate autumnal decor without compromising your style. I love these orange leaves against her existing blue wallpaper! Skill Level: Easy Decorating With Mums for Fall Julia at Cuckoo For Design caught my attention with this gorgeous succulent arrangement! Do you have existing plants around your house? Don’t throw them out or tuck them away! Give them a simple update by tucking some mums into the dirt alongside them! Keep the soil moist and your mum clippings will last up to 2 weeks! Skill Level: Easy DIY Fall Pumpkin Planter If you don’t already happen to have a gorgeous planter full of succulents, no worries! Kristin from Uncommon Slice of Suburbia has got you! She’s showing you how to take a styrofoam pumpkin from the dollar store and turn it into a gorgeous centerpiece for your fall table! Skill Level: Easy DIY Birch Bark Picture Frame Wendi from H2o Bungalow always surprises me with something simple but sweet to craft! I’m particularly loving this bark wood photo frame for fall decorating. Bonus points if you find the bark while on a hike! FALL HOME UPDATES WITH A PURPOSE There’s not much I dislike as much as I dislike decor for decor’s sake. Because we have limited space in our 1920s Bungalow, every item in my home needs to actually function for us as well. Even our little collections serve the purpose of fond memory-making. So this Fall, I decided to make a major improvement to our historic home’s entryway (or lack of an entryway). It’s hardly noticeable from this angle, which is ideal since this space is actually our dining room. I built an Instant Mudroom using a piece of scrap wood and a set of 10 hooks. Total project cost? $12! Total project return? Well, just take a look to see how well our only entryway storage is functioning now that Fall is in full effect and the backpacks and shoes are piling up. In addition to my DIY Jacket + Backpack Storage, I also added some extra function to my house by replacing the lighting with brighter fixtures. Never one to unnecessarily spend money, I created this Schoolhouse Style Industrial Light for only $25! DIY UTILITARIAN HOME DECOR PROJECTS FOR FALL There’s not much I dislike as much as I dislike decor for decor’s sake. Because we have limited space in our 1920s Bungalow, every item in my home needs to actually function for us as well. Even our little collections serve the purpose of fond memory-making. Build A Beautiful Hamper Betsy at Happily Ever After, Etc blew my mind with her $10 Rolling Laundry Bin! I would never have thought to combine chicken wire and some old chair rollers to create such an awesome piece! It’s truly creative and functional! Use it to hide all the laundry you haven’t gotten to folding yet when last-minute guests arrive. Skill Level: Intermediate DIY Wood Slice Chalkboard Welcome Sign It’s an oldie but a goodie from Shavonda at SG Style Blog. I’ve always really loved the wood slice welcome sign she had on the door of her Cottage Bungalow. I also can’t get over how much that paint color still rocks my world! Check out her Fall Home Tour from 2015 to see what I’m talking about. Skill Level: Easy, if you purchase store-bought wood slices DIY Tassel Throw Blanket There’s nothing we need more in the Fall than we need blankets. After those warm Summers, our bodies chill around 70 degrees. That’s why I love this super fancy-looking throw from Sherry at Savvy Apron as a must-DIY for Fall. Skill Level: Intermediate FALL PORCH + OUTDOOR DECORATIONS I touched on how to bring nature inside but I haven’t even begun to tackle decorating our outside for the new season! Lucky for you, I have lots of friends who have! Here are some great ways to give your home an extra peppy step for Fall. DIY Fall Wreath with minimal floral accents April at Love Our Real Life is showing you how to use a grapevine wreath mold to create this lovely and simple Fall wreath for your front door. Skill Level: Easy Rustic Burlap Wreath Tutorial Typically, I steer away from rustic decor but I happen to think Fall is the most appropriate time to go a little country! Don’t you love visiting the pumpkin farms and corn mazes? You can bring a little country style home with you by creating this Burlap Wreath from Seng of Sengerson Home. Skill Level: Easy Front Porch Topiary for Fall I know I’ve pinned this project from Laura at Inspiration for Moms at least once a year for a while now. That’s how I know you’ll love it too! It’s so classic and simple but looks amazingly chic! No rustic touches here! Check out her Easy DIY Fall Pumpkin Topiary. Skill Level: Easy Crafty Embroidery Hoop Wreath for Fall Decor If you’re a crafter and especially if you do embroidery or cross stitch, I think this wreath from Lydi Out Loud is perfect for your front porch! Check out how she made this Wood Slice Embroidery Hoop Wreath. Skill Level: Easy Fall Tablescape for Outdoor Entertaining I love to have people over and force them to sit outside with me in the Fall! There’s nothing nicer than the Autumn air coupled with good conversation and mediocre wine. If you’re looking to host an outdoor dinner this season, Jennifer at Dimples and Tangles has the perfect inspiration for your table settings and decor! Skill Level: Easy Easiest Fall Front Door Decor So if you’re short on time (and seriously, who isn’t?), this is perfect for you! You can add a touch of Fall with this simple flower bucket + mums display. Simply hang it with a command hook and replace the florals every time the seasons change! Smart, right? Well it wasn’t my idea. You can thank Robin at A Home To Grow Old In for the genius idea! Skill Level: Easiest Fall Evenings By The Fire This is probably why I love the season so much. I always imagine beautiful nights by an outdoor fireplace. Of course, I’ve never had an outdoor fireplace but Susie at The Chelsea Project does have one and she’s showing you how to set the scene for romance (or for just having guest over and listening to the crackle of the fire). Check out her outdoor fall tablescape. Skill Level: Easy TABLE SETTINGS FOR FALL ENTERTAINING We’ve been so busy over at the California Bungalow lately that we can’t even imagine having it together enough to set the table. In fact, the last time we hosted a party, our four year old daughter took charge and set the table herself! But one day, I’ll get my mojo back and when I do, I’m definitely reffering to these Fall Tablescapes for inspiration - DIY Tabletop Wheelbarrow for Fall Jaime Costiglio has always got the best plans for small wood crafts! You’ve got to check out her tutorial for creating this tabletop wheelbarrow! Skill Level: Intermediate Blue & White Fall Chinoiserie Decor Who says Fall Decor has to be orange?? Not Monica at Monica Wants It! She fully embraces her love of pink and upscale glam decor with this gorgeous Fall Tablescape and her velvet pumpkins! Skill Level: Easy Table Setting for Early Fall I love sunflowers and I especially love them paired with navy blue! There’s something so sweet and nostalgic about them. Michelle at Our Crafty Mom agrees. So she’s showing you how to get the look of a farmhouse table with a fall touch. Thanksgiving Placecards From Upcycled Grocery Bags I love it when trash becomes treasure and these leaf placards are exactly perfect for Fall! Run over to see why Morgan at My Pear Tree Home is giving me all the Thanksgiving feels with her beautiful Fall Dining Room. SO HOW’S THAT FOR SOME FALL INSPIRATION? Oh and one last question - Can I come over for dinner? I’m a little too tired to host this week. SEE MORE SEASONAL DECOR INSPIRATION Ready to add some fall + winter vibes to your home? Beautiful Homes of Instagram: Coastal Farmhouse Design
Hello, everyone! How are you all feeling after the long weekend? We finally could slow down a little after a busy week and really take in all the great things summer has to offer in… which includes days without any plans. Those are the best days, in my opinion. It’s just wonderful to wake up and not have anything on your to-do list. You don’t have any appointments, any big errands, nothing… all you need to do is wake up whenever you body chooses to, prepare a healthy breakfast and let the day unfold as it goes. The older my kids get, the more I enjoy our calm and easy summers!!!
Chrissy’s home is one of the most beautiful homes I have seen lately and I feel that it captures my personal feeling about how we should live, especially at this time of the year. Chrissy is a busy mom of four, she is extremely talented and I couldn’t be happier to have her on our “Beautiful Homes of Instagram” series. Please, read more about her home and make sure to follow her on Instagram and visit her blog!
“Hi everyone! My name is Chrissy of @chrissymarieblog. I am thrilled to contribute to Home Bunch. When we were building our home I was constantly scrolling through Luciane’s Home Bunch blog for ideas and inspiration! It’s exciting to pay it forward and inspire others now that we have been living in our home for over a year. I love answering questions about our own experience so feel free to reach out.
I grew up in Durham NC, left for college where I met my now husband, and a few years after getting married moved back home to NC and started our family. The 2008 economic recession happened right around that same time, and we were able to buy a 1970s home in an older neighborhood. The neighborhood itself was seeing hard times and our new home was surrounded by foreclosures. We were so grateful to be able to have space and a yard to raise our young kids- the age and the maintenance the home needed didn’t scare us off. That home was a DIY haven for me: it nurtured my creativity and taught me how to be brave enough to change things myself that I didn’t love. Fast forward a few years and we were parents of 4 children, all our bedrooms were filled up, and the neighborhood was doing much better. Now the homes around us were selling within days. Meanwhile, I was dreaming of living in a place with sidewalks, a community, and kids riding bikes outside. My husband is a Realtor, and we would go look at homes all the time together. I was picky- and too busy being a Mom to want another “project house”. One day he made a side comment saying “people like you would just be better off building”. I don’t think he expected me to take that to heart. We switched strategies and started looking at land- we found one of the last lots available in an established neighborhood that checked off all the boxes and our next adventure began!
Kevin Poythress, of Poythress Construction Company was our builder and he was fantastic to work with. My goal right from the beginning was lots of windows, a clean look and a fairly open living space. Although we are 2.5 hours from the beach, I love a coastal vibe and I tried to keep that relaxed feeling in this home. The best part about my home though is how I know our children appreciate it; it’s a place they tell us they love coming home to. Truly the best part of any home is that it is yours, and you are free to make memories all your own in your home. There’s nothing my husband and I love more than putting on some music in the kitchen, sharing a little wine together, and chatting over the island while he cooks up something yummy.”
