WHAT DOES H.E. IMRAN KHAN MEAN BY LAW AND ORDER IN THE SO-CALLED SLAMIC REPUBLIC OF PAKISTAN
According to Merriam-Webster Dictionary it means “the enactment of laws and their strict enforcement by police and the courts,” PERIOD!
Merriam-Webster.com Dictionary, Merriam-Webster, https://www.Merriam-Webster.com/dictionary/law%20and%20order. Accessed 3 Dec. 2023
Therefore, in so-called Islamic Republic of Pakistan, which is neither Islamic not Republic, you cannot get LAW & ORDER in place until and unless the Government  of Pakistan forces the police and the courts to enact and enforce Law and Order because both of these the courts and the police are CORRUPT from top to bottom and it is well known to the politicians and the public at large.
The major problem is that the Government is controlled by these Bhuttos, Sheeefs and Zardaris, who were given land, money and power by the British to rule India for more than two hundred years, and it is a British legacy.
For more than seventy five (75) years, the majority of the honest, the illiterate, the needy, the poor, and simple people of Pakistan have been exploited and ruled by these corrupt politicians, who are protected by the courts and the police for their continued ageless criminal activities in India and Pakistan.
These POLITICIANS are full of CORRUPTION, a CANCER, which has tripled down to the masses Pakistan. Their argument is quite valid. If these POLITICIANS can steal billions of dollars, send it to overseas banks, buy properties in Us and Europe, and build palaces overseas, why can’t I take bribe of a few thousand dollars to feed my family, because I cannot get a job even if I am qualified.
.H.E. Imran Khan, future Prime Minister of Pakistan, In shaa Allah,  aspires to make Pakistan a progressive nation and an ”Islamic welfare state”. He has not dreamt of anything different from other  leaders  of  the  Muslim  world  like  Turkey‟s  Erdogan  or  the  ousted Mursi‟s government in Egypt.
CONCLUSION:
It is evident from the above discussion that the Islamic welfare state has various dimensions  and responsibilities  but also various interpretations  by different sects of the  Muslims.  This is  always an  ideal  model of  state  for every Muslim but in spite of strong aspiration for the creation of an Islamic welfare  state,  one  cannot  find  a  single  Islamic  state  in  the  world  to  be
presented as a model. Another strange thing is that in different Islamic states, different roots have been adopted for achieving this goal. In Afghanistan for instance, the Taliban started an armed struggle for the creation of an Islamic State.

Imran Khan Defiant As Pakistan’s Main Opposition Parties Announce Coalition
— Carl Arrindell
Tumblr media
Jailed former Pakistan Prime Minister, Imran Khan remains defiant as Pakistan’s main opposition parties announce coalition and conspire to block his party from assuming power.
On Monday 12th and Tuesday 13th February, as the final results of the Pakistan General election were being declared, thousands of supporters of Pakistan's imprisoned former prime minister, Imran Khan and members of other political parties blocked main highways and began strike action as they gathered in Pakistan’s capital Karachi, outside the provisional election office to protest alleged rigging of last week's elections.

‍Violent Clashes Between PTI Supporters and Police in Rawalpindi and Lahore
Violent clashes between protesters and the police and security forces were also reported in Rawalpindi city and in Lahore, where reports suggest that police fired tear gas and made baton charges at protesters in order to force their dispersal.

Imran Khan supporters gather outside provisional electoral offices in Karachi
The nationwide swelling of public support and protests for Imran Khan and his PTI party, did not prevent the opposition parties - Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PM-N) and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), from announcing their intention to form a coalition and to forming the next government. Imran Khan has pledged never to form an alliance with the same two parties, which he alleges conspired to overturn his government and to have him removed from power in a vote of no confidence in April 2022.
Despite a failure to secure a majority of seats in Pakistan’s parliament - the largest number of which was secured by affiliates of Imran Khan’s now outlawed PTI party, the Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PM-N) and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), on Tuesday announced that they have come to an agreement to form a new coalition to govern the country. The most senior figures in Pakistan’s Army – which have for several decades stood resolutely behind Sharif and the PM-N, have made it known that they will be supporting the Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz, in its collaboration to achieve a majority with other smaller parties.
Widespread Electoral Rigging is Alleged to Have Robbed PTI Affiliates of Their Seats
Imran Khan’s party affiliates, who were forced to run as independents, according to officially declared poll figures, won 93 out of 265 seats in the lower house of the National Assembly. In the early hours of the election polling, newspaper outlets had reported the PTI affiliates as having secured as many as 150 seats – which would have given them a clear majority. Independent candidates across the country have insisted that seats have been stolen from them in a programme of election rigging which is rife. Yasmin Rashid, who ran as an independent ,was just one of many who believe that they won their seats and that the official polls do not reflect the truth. They allege that they were victims of electoral interference.
PTI Has Been Given the 'People's Mandate to Form the Next Government'
Nawaz Sharif’s party – the Pakistan Muslim League –Nawaz, managed to secure just 75 seats, with the Pakistan People’s Party, or PPP, led by Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, securing 54 seats. PTI supporters and leadership insist that they have been given a ‘peoples mandate’t o form the next government, despite not having achieved the required 134 seats to achieve a majority.
Tumblr media
Imran Khan Calls on His Supporters to Celebrate a Victory
In a statement issued by Imran Khan post the results, the former Prime Minister called on his supporters to celebrate a victory, which he said was achieved ‘despite a crackdown on his party’. He said:
‘PTI will never compromise on people’s will, and I have categorically instructed my party against engaging with any political party that has robbed people’s mandate, including PPP, PMLN & MQM. As the people of Pakistan have clearly pronounced their verdict, there is a dire need for democracy and fairness in Pakistan’s elections. I warn against the misadventure of forming a government with stolen votes. Such daylight robbery will not only be a disrespect to the citizens, but will also push the country’s economy further into a downward spiral’
'You Will Have To Bring Khan Back'
Latif Khosa, the Leader of Imran Khan’s PTI Party also added his voice to that of the jailed former premier, he said:
'No assembly or parliament can function without Imran Khan. No government can be formed without Imran Khan. So rid yourself of the misunderstanding that by minusing Imran they will be able to operate a democracy or the government. You will have to bring Imran Khan back.’
PTI officials assert that it was banned from hosting election political rallies, that it was prevented from fielding any polling agents on election day and was subject to internet restrictions. These issues they argue, underpin PTI’s claims that the elections were anything but free and fair. Independents affiliated to Imran Khan’s party PTI, won the most seats in Pakistan’s lower parliament, although as independents they are not deemed to represent a party which according to the constitution can form a government. Nevertheless, the size of their electoral success came as a shock to most political pundits, given the overwhelming nature of restrictions imposed on them.
‘Corrupt to Their Cores Opposition Parties’ Entered Coalition Talks as No Single Party Had Achieved Enough Seats to Win a Majority.
Khan has made it clear that he will never enter coalition talks with PML-N (Pakistan Muslim League) and PPP (Pakistan Peoples Party)
Imran Khan has been prevented from holding public office for ten years and from running as a candidate in the elections, following his convictions for treason, corruption or ‘graft’ as it is known and also for having an un-Islamic marriage. The three convictions resulting from court cases in the last six months include a 10-year tariff for corruption (selling state gifts), 10 years for treason (revealing confidential state information – the ‘Cypher’ case) and 14 years imprisonment for both Khan and his wife for false marriage. He still faces more than 150 other indictments in the courts.

Imran Khan's Sister, Aleema Khan
Speaking to the press, on Monday, Imran Khan's sister, Aleema Khan, suggested that her brother had inspired a revolution from behind bars and that the elections were rife with voter fraud. She spoke of the outlawing of the cricket bat symbol which had been carried by many who were illiterate as a symbol of support for Imran Khan. She urged independent PTU affiliates to protest outside returning offices and recover their stolen seats. She said:
'It wasn't Imran Khan's PTI votes that they took away, they took away the right of 15 million people to recognise the symbol. That bat was the symbol that 15 million illiterate people recognised the candidate with the symbol...The time has come that you have to respect the people\s vote.'
When asked about possible collaboration with the other parties, she added:
'If you go and sit with people who were participants in the abuse, the human rights abuse, the women - the way they were abused, the homes that were broken into, the children that were threatened, I would never expect them to be supported'
PTI Affiliates 'Have to Recover Their Stolen Seats and Then You Form a Government'
Asked about Nawaz Sharif's declaration of victory she said:
'As a Pakistani, first tell him to give back all the seats he has stolen...Nawaz Sharif has been sent back - he spends four years in London, they plunder all our wealth and I think its a big insult to Pakistanis that we accept people like that, we don't. I've been embarrassed for people to think that this is acceptable to us - it isnt acceptable to Pakistanis. They were helpless in challenging, because they had no alternative. And that's what Imran Khan was, an alternative. They have to recover their stolen seats and then you form a government'

Pakistan’s real test begins after election, say analysts
Lahore, Pakistan – Four months after Pakistan was originally scheduled to hold national elections, the country’s 128 million voters will on Thursday get the chance to pick their next federal government amid a pre-poll crackdown on former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s party and a climate of political and economic instability.
More than 90,000 polling booths spread across the nation of 241 million people will open at 8am local time (03:00 GMT).

In addition to the 266 seats in the country’s National Assembly, voters will also elect members to the legislatures of Pakistan’s four provinces. In the National Assembly, a party needs at least 134 seats to secure an outright majority. But parties can also form a coalition to reach the threshold.
Voting will continue until 5pm local time (12:00 GMT), and if the tabulation of results occurs smoothly, the winner could be clear within a few hours.
Yet, analysts are already cautioning that the true test of Pakistan’s tryst with democracy will begin after the elections, when a new government will be confronted by a host of challenges it will inherit, and questions over its very legitimacy.
“While the election results might bring a sense of temporary stability, it is increasingly clear to the public and party leaders alike that long-term sustainability can only be achieved when this cycle of political engineering is broken,” analyst and columnist Danyal Adam Khan said, referring to a widespread sentiment in Pakistan that the election process has been influenced by the country’s powerful military establishment to deny a fair chance to Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party.
Just a day before the election, three bomb blasts, two in southwestern Balochistan and one in Karachi, Sindh, left more than 30 people dead. Over the past year, more than 1,000 people have been killed in violence across the country. Despite assurances from the interim government, fears of internet closure in some areas as well as some election-day violence persist.
And the economy is in the doldrums, with inflation hovering around 30 percent, 40 percent of the population below the poverty line, a fast-depreciating currency and nearly three-fourths of the population convinced, according to recent polling, that things could get even worse.
Turning tables
Many voters and experts have told Al Jazeera that those challenges have been compounded by attempts to subvert free and fair elections.
In Thursday’s elections, the top contender is three-time former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, called the “Lion of Punjab” by his supporters. If his Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) wins the most seats, he could potentially become prime minister for a record fourth time.
However, critics argue that his frontrunner status isn’t due to an inspirational campaign, but rather the machinations of Pakistan’s most powerful entity: the military establishment.
Six years ago, Sharif found himself in their crosshairs, first disqualified from the premiership in 2017 and then jailed on corruption charges for 10 years in 2018, just two weeks before elections.
His removal and the PMLN’s downfall were seemingly orchestrated to pave the way for former cricketer and philanthropist Imran Khan’s rise to power. While their initial honeymoon seemed promising, cracks emerged, and after nearly four years, Khan became the first Pakistani prime minister deposed through a no-confidence vote, continuing a telling trend in the country’s 77-year history: no PM has ever completed their five-year term
Khan’s relationship with the military hit its lowest point on May 9, 2023, when he was briefly arrested for corruption. His party workers and supporters rioted in response, targeting government and military installations.
For a country with more than three decades of direct military rule, where the army as an institution is deeply woven into the social fabric, the state’s response to Khan and the PTI was brutal. Thousands of party workers were arrested, and key leaders were forced to resign. Khan himself faced more than 150 cases, many apparently frivolous. He was eventually jailed last August in a corruption case, leading to his disqualification from the election. Last week, he received multiple convictions in different cases.
However, the biggest blow for the party before the February 8 election came in January, when their iconic “cricket bat” electoral symbol was revoked for violating internal party election rules.
The decision meant that Khan and his party, arguably the most popular in the country according to opinion polls, had no option but to field candidates as independents, each with their own symbol.
The PTI also alleges harassment and even abductions of their candidates, forcing them to cut short their campaigns. The party has complained of restrictions imposed on rallies and media coverage of their plight. These allegations have led experts to consider this one of the most tainted elections in the country’s history.
Sharif’s return in November last year coincided with his rival’s imprisonment, and all his convictions and charges were dropped within weeks. A Supreme Court ban on him from contesting elections was lifted, paving the way for him to lead his party.
With Khan behind bars, Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, son of former President Asif Ali Zardari and two-time ex-Premier Benazir Bhutto, appears to be the second strongest contender.
As the scion of the Bhutto dynasty and leader of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Bhutto-Zardari has campaigned across the country, though the PPP’s core support remains mainly in Sindh.
‘Mockery of democracy’
The crackdown on the PTI has raised questions about the legitimacy of the elections among many analysts.
Danyal Adam Khan, the columnist, said that while the political clampdown is not completely unprecedented, what has transpired before the polls is a “flagrant mockery” of the democratic process.
“Despite the PTI’s own role in promoting a culture of vilifying political opponents, their success at the polls is a matter for the public to decide,” he told Al Jazeera.
Political analyst Benazir Shah acknowledged the history of manipulation in Pakistan’s elections but said that young voters – the country’s largest demographic – had a chance to make their voices heard.
“Out of Pakistan’s 128 million voters, over 45 percent are between the ages of 18 and 35. Historically, they have not contributed a lot in elections, but it is their moment to shine and voice their opinion,” she said.
Pakistan has historically had a relatively low turnout in polls, with only the previous two elections (in 2013 and 2018) witnessing a turnout of more than 50 percent since 1985.
According to election statistics, from 1997 onwards, the voter turnout of those between the ages of 18 and 30 never crossed 40 percent, reaching a high of 37 percent in 2018.
“Despite all the allegations of pre-poll rigging, I am still hoping for a high voter turnout, where the young people come in and vote for the party of their choice,” the Lahore-based Shah said.
Beyond concerns over political persecution, the dire economic situation looms large. Inflation and currency devaluation paint a grim picture.
The country was on the brink of a default last year when in June, then-Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif managed to get a $3bn International Monetary Fund (IMF) loan package, which is set to expire by March.
Addressing the economy will be the next government’s paramount responsibility, said former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi. And to do that, he said, the country’s incoming leaders will need credibility.
“Pakistan is still suffering from the political and economic fallout of the manipulated elections in 2018 [when Sharif was effectively forced out of contention]. However, any perception of manipulation in the 2024 elections will be greatly detrimental for the economy,” he told Al Jazeera.
With the latest opinion polls forecasting a win for the PMLN, questions have been raised about whether the results on February 9 can bring some sort of stability in the country’s volatile political landscape.
Danyal Adam Khan said he expects frustration and anger from those feeling disenfranchised but warns against perpetuating a cycle of vengeance.
Analyst Shah also expressed pessimism, fearing further societal polarisation if the PTI feels unfairly represented.
“I feel there will be further divisiveness in the society if one political party and its voters [PTI] will think they have been suppressed and they will feel they were not given fair representation in the polls. This will be quite damaging to the country in the long run,” she added.
Former PM Abbasi said he was sensing a lack of public interest in the elections, reflecting a lack of optimism.
It would be vital, he said, for Pakistan to develop clarity over the relationships between its political, judicial, and military institutions.
“The post-election scenario will be dependent on the ability of the country’s leadership to address all these issues,” the ex-premier said. “Hope for solutions is at a premium, so we can only hope for optimism to prevail.”

What is Known So Far About Pakistan's Riots Following Imran Khan's “Politically Motivated Illegal Arrest”
Tumblr media
Police have nabbed hundreds of Imran Khan supporters in a crackdown that came after scores of people across Pakistan took to the streets to say "no" to the ousted prime minister’s detention.
At least two people have been killed in violent protests that broke out in a number of Pakistani cities following the arrest of the country’s former Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday. Why was the ex-PM detained and what is known about the unrest? Sputnik explores.
Why Was Khan Arrested?
The May 9 arrest of Imran Khan, who served as the 22nd PM of Pakistan from 2018 to 2023, has been linked to a number of factors, including his alleged involvement in corruption and money laundering. Additionally, it has been suggested that his detention may be politically motivated, with the current Pakistan prime minister, Shehbaz Sharif, reportedly seeking to discredit his predecessor before the upcoming elections.
The latest news on Khan's arrest indicates that he is being held in custody while his case is being investigated. While the reasons behind his detention are yet to be clarified, more information is expected to emerge as the probe progresses.
Abdullah Khan, Director of the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies think tank, has meanwhile suggested that Khan’s arrest is "part of an overall conflict" between the ex-PM and "current rulers who see him as a threat to their politics and power."
"Khan has also openly challenged Pakistan's powerful military establishment, which, in fact, had supported him to come into power back in 2018. The ruling political alliance is running away from elections because all the opinion polls suggest Khan's party may come into power with bigger margins if immediate elections are held. So we can say the arrest is a politically motivated action," Abdullah Khan said.
He argued that the Imran Khan case is "a weaker one", and that "he may get bail." At the same time, the expert did not rule out that Khan "may remain in prison for some time" because "there are other cases pending."
The expert was echoed by Vladimir Sotnikov from the Moscow-based Higher School of Economics, who told Sputnik that Pakistan’s internal factors played a significant role in Khan’s detention.
"The matter is that in addition to the fact that he tried to pursue an independent course in [Pakistan’s] foreign policy, there was also a very clear rejection of his domestic policy, primarily from the [country’s] military circles," Soitnikov noted, adding that Khan "challenged traditional political circles."
Tumblr media
The Russian analyst suggested that the ex-PM “wanted to move away from US dependence” and instead focus on developing relations with Russia, something he was not allowed to do.
"Let's see how the developments will unfold. I don't rule out that if there are [more] mass demonstrations in Pakistan, […] then maybe Imran Khan will be able to somehow still participate in political activities. His arrest is actually connected with the fact that they tried (and finally they have succeeded) to prevent him from ruling the country," Sotnikov asserted.
When asked about why Khan’s arrest took place, political observer Dr. Rashid, in turn, insisted in an interview with Sputnik that the country’s establishment wanted to convey a message to the Supreme Court.
"Today's episode of Khan's arrest has achieved two things for the government and the establishment. First is the fact that the court's sanctity has been hurt - Islamabad High Court's Chief Justice's Office was attacked by the police, from where they literally dragged Khan out after breaking the windows," the observer said, adding that "the move is absolutely unconstitutional and unlawful."
According to Dr. Rashid, "With this gesture they are conveying a message to the chief justice of the Supreme Court of Pakistan who after May 14 was likely to take action against some big names in the government for contempt of court, because the government is not announcing elections on May 14 as was ordered by the Supreme Court. Hence, this move today was done to pressurize the chief justice of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, and to show him that they are not afraid to barge into the courts."
The same tone was struck by Editor of the Pakistan Daily Hamza Azhar Salam, who told Sputnik that "it's a very interesting story because even before his ousting, Khan alleged that the US was trying to remove him from power."
However, Salam added: "Khan's war in Pakistan is no longer against the US conspiracy, but it's against the Pakistani military establishment which perhaps colluded" with America.
"I don't think it will be very easy for Pakistan's political engineers to contain Imran Khan's rage, because the more they try to stop him, the more powerful he is emerging," Salam argued.

On 3 November 2022, Imran Khan, Former Prime Minister of Pakistan and Chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Political Party, was shot in an Assassination Attempt in Wazirabad, Punjab, during a long protest march against the government.
What Instigated Tuesday's Protests?
Khan, who is the chairman of the country's opposition party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), was taken into custody following a hearing of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) in the Al-Qadir Trust case. He was seeking bail in several charges filed against him.
Footage shows dozens of security officers forcibly removing the 70-year-old cricket star-turned-politician from the court, then bundling him into a police vehicle.
Folks! It’s Pakistan’s Corrupt, Above Law & Terrorist Generals in Actions! This Must Be Stopped Now. Terrorist Generals are Terrorizing People of Pakistan Since Its Independence.
Tumblr media
Later that day, PTI's spokesman Fawad Chaudhry said that the ex-Pakistani prime minister had been kidnapped.
"Former PM Imran Khan has been abducted from Court premises, scores of lawyers and general people have been tortured, Imran Khan has been whisked away by unknown people to an unknown location," Chaudhry said on social media.
PTI then posted a video on its official social network account showing Khan's lawyer severely injured. The lawyer was beaten inside IHC premises, the party claimed. Shortly after, the PTI urged people to start staging mass protests in response to Khan's purported abduction.
"It's your time, people of Pakistan. Khan has always stood for you, now it’s time to stand for him," the party tweeted, adding that this is a "now or never opportunity". Imran Khan Biography
In addition to being a former first-class cricketer, Imran Khan Niazi is also the leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.
Currently serving as a Member of the National Assembly, he was born on 5th October 1952 in Lahore, Punjab.
Pakistan’s national team used him as an all-rounder between 1971 and 1992.
Just behind Garry Sobers as the best all-rounder in the history of the sport is this right-handed batsman.
He was inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame in 2010.
Background
In Lahore, imran Khan made his debut as a first-class cricketer at the age of sixteen. A few years before making it into the main team in 1970–71, he played for smaller teams based out of Lahore.
During 1973–1975, imran Khan played for the Blues Cricket team at Oxford.
In his county cricket career, he played medium-pace bowling for Worcestershire from 1971 to 1976.
Debut
On 3rd June 1971, he made his Test debut against England which ended in a stalemate as he failed to take a single wicket across both innings and scored just five runs.
Three years after making his debut in the ODI format, he played against the same opponents for the Prudential Trophy at Trent Bridge.
However, he finished his 10 overs with the third best economy of the match while failing to claim a single wicket.
Rise to Glory
The following year, he returned to Pakistan, where he has been an integral part of the national team since 1976–1977 after completing his education at Oxford and serving his tenure at Worcestershire. He played his initial Tests against the mighty teams of New Zealand and Australia.
Tony Greig subsequently signed him up for Kerry Packer’s World Series Cricket after the West Indian Series.
With a speed of 139.7 km/h, he finished as the fastest bowler in that tournament, which was the third-fastest ball.
A bowler with at least 50 wickets in a year had an average of 13.29 while playing nine tests in 1982. He got 62 wickets at that average, the lowest in Test history.
It took the all-rounder only 75 Tests to achieve the all-rounder’s triple of 300 Test wickets and 3000 Test runs, second fastest behind Ian Botham who reached the milestone 3 matches earlier.
Club Career
From 1975–1976, he played for Dawood Industries and between 1980–1981, he played for Pakistan International Airlines.
His time as a student in England saw him represent Oxford University, Sussex, and Worcestershire. As a member of Australia’s New South Wales team during the 1984–85 season, he also represented the United States.
Captaincy
Javed Miandad appointed him captain at the age of 30. His side won 14 tests and lost eight matches while he was their captain.
Over the course of his 139 ODIs as a captain, he lead his team to victory 77 times and lost 57.
It is suspected that the injury caused him to miss more than two years of the 1982 international season.
In the 1984–1985 season, he returned to basketball. He retired from International Cricket after failing to reach the 1987 World Cup before returning to the team in 1988.
He provided significant contributions with both the bat and the ball throughout the 1992 Cricket World Cup, as he took Pakistan to victory at the age of 39.
Imran’s Record in Numbers
The Wisden Cricketer of the Year award was given to him in 1983.
A cricketer among fifty-five inducted into the Hall of Fame of the International Cricket Council during its centennial celebration, he was one of fifty players.
Even in 1985, he was named Player of the Year by the Sussex Cricket Society.
Retirement
When Pakistan faced Sri Lanka in the series decider, he played his final test as a Pakistani.
After failing with the bat in his first two innings, he failed to bowl either innings. Pakistan eventually won the series by 3 wickets.
He is Imran Ahmad Khan Niazi (born October 5, 1952, Lahore, Pakistan), former cricketer, politician, and prime minister of Pakistan (2018 — ) for leading the Pakistani team to a Cricket World Cup victory in 1992 and then became interested in politics during the corruption scandal in Pakistan.
Early life and cricket career In addition to being educated at elite schools in Pakistan and the UK, Khan was born into an affluent Pashtun family in Lahore. In his family were several accomplished cricket players, including two elder cousins who served as Pakistani national team captains, Javed Burki and Majid Khan. He continued to play cricket at the University of Oxford even as he studied philosophy, politics, and economics. The first time Khalil Khan played for Pakistan’s national team was in 1971, but he did not become a regular member of the team until after he graduated from Oxford University in 1976.
imran Khan was named captain of Pakistan in 1982 due to his outstanding skills as a bowler and all-rounder in the early 1980s. Khan gained fame in Pakistan and England because of his athletic ability and good looks, and his appearances at London nightclubs provided entertainment for the British tabloid press. The 1992 World Cup was the greatest sporting accomplishment of Khan’s career, as he led Pakistan to its first World Cup championship. The year after he retired, he was regarded as one of the greatest cricket players in history.
imran Khan remained a prominent philanthropist after 1992. The young man had embraced Sufi mysticism and shed his playboy image after experiencing a religious awakening. Khan served as the primary fund-raiser for the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital, a specialized cancer hospital in Lahore that opened in 1994. Khan’s mother died of cancer in 1985, and the hospital was named after her.
Entry into politics imran khan became an outspoken critic of government mismanagement and corruption in Pakistan after retiring from cricket. In 1996, he founded Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (Pakistan Justice Movement; PTI). Khan won only one seat in the 2002 elections, a seat he filled with less than 1 percent of the vote in the following year’s national elections. His party had received less than 1 percent in the election the following year, and it lost no seats in the National Assembly. Khan attributed his party’s low vote total to vote rigging. Khan was among a group of politicians who resigned from the National Assembly in October 2007 in protest of President George W. Bush. Currently, Pervez Musharraf is running for president. Musharraf, who had declared a state of emergency, briefly imprisoned Khan last November. For its part, the PTI opposed the state of emergency, which ended in mid-December, and boycotted the 2008 election to express its opposition to Musharraf’s government.
Although imran Khan’s populist positions found support, especially among young people, in spite of the PTI’s electoral struggles. Pakistan’s participation in the fight against militants near the Afghan border belied a lack of economic equality and corruption, which he opposed. In addition, he attacked Pakistan’s political and economic elites, accusing them of being Westernized and out of touch with Pakistan’s religious and cultural norms.
A list of Khan’s published works includes Warrior Race: A Journey Through the Land of the Tribal Pathans (1993) and Pakistan: A Personal History (2011).
Political ascent imran Khan and his party drew large crowds at their rallies in the months leading up to the early 2013 legislative elections and attracted the support of several leading politicians from Pakistan’s established parties. A 2012 opinion poll found that Khan was the most popular political figure in Pakistan, which is further evidence of Khan’s political rise.
Days before the 2013 legislative election, imran Khan fell from a stage at a campaign rally, causing injuries to his head and back. From his hospital bed, he addressed the nation hours later. Although the PTI won its highest numbers ever, it won only half as many seats as the Pakistan Muslim League–Nawaz (PMLN) led by Nawaz Sharif. PML-N leader Khan accused them of rigging the polls. The opposition leader, along with other opposition figures, led four months of protests in late 2014 in order to bring Sharif to justice.
When the Panama Papers linked Sharif’s family to offshore holdings, suspicions of corruption were heightened. Later that year, Khan organized new protests but canceled them in response to the Supreme Court’s decision to open an investigation. He was forced to resign from office after his candidacy was disqualified by an investigation. Khan, meanwhile, was also discovered to have offshore holdings, but in a separate case, the Supreme Court did not disqualify him.
The following year, in July 2018, elections were held. Despite being attacked for too cozy relationships with the military, Khan ran on a platform of fighting corruption and poverty. Following PTI’s majority in the National Assembly, Khan was able to form a coalition with independents. On August 18, he was sworn in as prime minister.
Premiership
As prime minister, imran Khan faced a mounting balance of payments crisis. A key reason for the growth in the economy, imports, and debt commitments is the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).  CPEC News And Updates When the United States refused to provide Pakistan with $300 million in promised military aid just a few weeks after becoming prime minister, the crisis deteriorated rapidly. In a bid to use foreign assistance to help Pakistan’s macroeconomic situation, Khan eschewed a bailout by the International Monetary Fund (IMF). A dozen previous packages from the IMF had failed to solve the country’s macroeconomic problems. In the absence of favorable terms for foreign assistance from other countries, Pakistan requested financing from the IMF. The United States, China, and Saudi Arabia offered him foreign aid in return for investment.
In addition to courting foreign aid, Khan presided over several significant developments in Pakistan’s foreign relations. Both the country and the United States achieved a mutually beneficial understanding through negotiations with the other. In February 2019, India launched its first air campaign against Pakistan in over five decades after a suicide attack on Indian security personnel killed 40 Indian soldiers in Kashmir. An attack by one country raised concerns about a possible conflict with the other.
Pakistan has downplayed the impact of the incident and appears to have avoided escalating the situation. India again entered Pakistani airspace, leading to Pakistan downing two fighter jets and capturing a pilot, who was later returned to India. As a result of this incident, Khan passed legislation to establish international standards in Pakistan’s laws, made arrests, and shut down multiple religious schools.
Early in 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic worsened the economic situation of China. Khan was less eager to endorse a lockdown than some of his critics. In contrast, the opposition-controlled Sindh government imposed an immediate lockdown on the province in March. His government eventually instituted a nationwide lockdown in April and began limiting it to areas with high rates of infection in May.
Efforts by Khan to crack down on militants and keep close ties with the military continued to draw opposition. With a stated goal of increasing the independence of civilian governments from the military establishment, the major opposition parties formed a coalition in late 2020, called the People’s Democratic Movement (PDM). The PDM has called for Khan to “step down” in protests and rallies organized by it down.
Khan’s coalition partners narrowly survived a vote of confidence in his government in March 2021 after these parties boycotted it.

POLITICIZATION OF CORONA CHALLENGE IS DEPLORABLE: USMAN BUZDAR
LAHORE, April 26:
Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar has regretted that the opposition is using the corona challenge for its political gains.
In a statement, the CM asserted that every effort was made by the government to deal with the third corona wave adding that the number of ventilators and oxygen beds has been increased in the hospitals to facilitate the patients. Regrettably, the opposition is trying to achieve mundane political mileage over the corona issue, he added. However, those distancing the people in the corona pandemic have been isolated, he added. The CM regretted the PDM had busted a gut to spread coronavirus by holding public meetings during the pandemic. This selfish cabal played with the lives of the people to gain some political benefits; this proves the impassive opposition has no regard for the lives of the people. Those who did not care for the health and safety of the people, during the pandemic, have become a symbol of disgrace; concluded the CM.

I cannot fight corruption alone: PM Khan

Before he started taking calls from the public, the prime minister urged people to "help yourselves and help the nation" by observing coronavirus SOPs.
"I will advise everyone to wear this mask," he said, gripping one in his hand.
PM Imran Khan said it was the government's responsibility to protect people during the infection. He cautioned people to wear masks in closed rooms where there was no ventilation and in buses and other means of transport.
In response to the first caller, the prime minister said Pakistan was importing gas from other countries at exorbitant rates while the resources it was tapping in its own country, were on the decline.
He said countries progress due to higher education among the masses. "We also have to think about what sort of high education we have [to impart]," he said. "Buildings do not bring about quality education; it also depends on what type of degrees they are handing out to students," he said.
PM Imran said the government is bringing about "huge changes" in the HEC, adding that the previous chairman of the education commission was not selected by the incumbent government.
In response to the second caller who complained about inflation, PM Imran Khan said prices of vegetable and other food items were on the rise as the farmers who supplied them wanted their products to be sold at high prices in the market.
"The middlemen are making a lot of money from this," he said.
The prime minister said his government was working towards an ingenuous solution through which they are aiming to connect the primary producers of these items to the final consumers.
He said the masses will see the positive effects of the rupee strengthening against the US dollar, adding that the local currency's performance had already led to a decline in prices of diesel.
The premier spoke against "hoarders and mafias", saying they were responsible for the hoarding of necessary food items in the country.
"For the first time, we are going after mafias in Pakistan," he said. "The FIA completed its inquiry for the first time to bring to everyone's knowledge how a few people hoard basic food items so their prices skyrocket and they make profits out of it," he said.
Addressing the caller by name, PM Imran Khan said: "Ambreen, you need not be frightened [over inflation] because the government is working towards tackling this solution".
He revealed the government is working towards revolutionising the agriculture sector so Pakistan is self-sufficient in basic food items and other products.
The third caller raised a couple of questions, among them one related to the health system. PM Imran Khan said Pakistan was introducing the health card system due to which people will be able to get themselves treated via insurance at any hospital across the country.
"I assure you, this facility is not extended to people even in developed countries," he said.
The prime minister highlighted how the government was bringing about measures in the health sector, including exempting duty from hospital equipment from abroad.
Answering another caller's complaint on corruption, PM Imran Khan said "corruption was a cancer" which ends up feasting on a country's progress like termites feast on wood.
He said when prime ministers became corrupt and stole billions from the masses, it resulted in money going out from Pakistan into other countries.
PM Imran Khan cited a UN report, saying that a mammoth total of $1,000bn was sent to developed countries from poor states each year through corruption and money laundering.
"I am one of the few heads of state in the world who is calling upon the developed countries to return our money back to us," he said, adding that the rich countries were reluctant to do so as they were reaping the benefits of it.
He said Pakistan was fighting a war against corruption, adding that a handful of people in the country were being brought to book for their crimes in Pakistan.
"The entire nation will have to fight this war. Imran Khan alone cannot win it," he said, lamenting how the people used to shower rose petals at people who were released from prisons after being accused of being involved in corrupt practices.
The prime minister spoke out against shamelessness, saying it was giving rise to temptation in society.
"If you keep on increasing shamelessness in society, every person does not have the willpower [to control it]," he said.
The prime minister recounted his experience in London, when "sex, drugs and rock n roll" were just taking a hold in the country. He said society as a whole will fight this menace too, adding that such shamelessness was giving rise to rapes and other cases of sexual violence.
"Why did I bring Turkish drama series Ertugrul to Pakistan?" he asked, saying that it was entertainment that did not breach any moral boundaries unlike Bollywood and Hollywood movies.
Answering another caller's questions, PM Imran Khan said in Pakistan, his party had brought about a "democratic change" unlike the revolutions in France and Iran.
He said the PTI had defeated a two-party system in Pakistan and helped new people take up ministries. The prime minister said previously, the two parties who were at each other's throats, were now demanding he step down and were on one page.
"This is the change," he said, adding that now, a government was in place which did not tolerate corruption and was not willing to let the menace go unchecked.
Citing his government's achievements, PM Imran Khan said the rupee had strengthened for the first time in many years.
"It means we are doing something right," he said. "Have a bit of patience and this country will take off," he added.
The premier said his government was bringing a new agriculture policy which would ensure Pakistan made a lot of progress.
Sources confirmed the prime minister rejected advice from his aides and ministers, who suggested he answer questions from people in a recorded telecast. The prime minister, instead, insisted on answering the questions during a live transmission.
Earlier, a tweet from information minister Shibli Faraz confirmed the development.
"The prime minister will interact with people via telephone calls tomorrow ( Sunday April 4) live telecast from 11:30 am-1pm," he had tweeted on Saturday.
Previously, Senator Faisal Javed had announced that the prime minister will directly be responding to queries from people.
Anyone wishing to ask the prime minister a question may put in a call at 051-9224900.
The senator had said the premier's conversation with people would be broadcast live on television, radio and digital media.
The last time the prime minister took calls from people was during a telethon for Naya Pakistan Housing scheme on March 28.
Prior to that, in January, a similar announcement was made, encouraging people to put in their calls and speak to the prime minister directly about the issues that they wish for the government to address.
During his first speech after his victory to become the prime minister, PM Imran Khan had also promised he will be "answerable" before the people twice every month in a "Question Hour" in the National Assembly.
His interactions over the course of the last year with people via video messages on social media or televised addresses have largely focused on the coronavirus pandemic, urging people to realise the importance of exercising caution and wearing masks so Pakistan can successfully reduce the spread of the virus.

How a Pakistani/Islamic Lobby took over Bernie Sanders 2020 presidential campaign sabotaging his aspirations
It’s not by chance that many young Muslim politicians across America have emerged from the Bernie Sanders circuit. It’s by design. They have hijacked Bernie Sanders infrastructure, funding and ground game to win elections, knowing he won’t be around very long.
Tumblr media
Excerpted from: “How a Pakistani/Islamic Lobby took over Bernie Sanders 2020 presidential campaign sabotaging his aspirations”
...
While foreign policy is always Bernie's Achilles Heel, it had minimal impact in 2016 as he was focusing his domestic policies as the center of his movement.
However, there was an interesting dynamic of Arab Muslims from Michigan and Minnesota showing interest in Bernie Sanders partly because of his views on Israel-Palestine and endorsement of Keith Ellison. Qatar's state-owned media Al Jazeera did its part warning Muslims to not vote for Hillary and openly endorsing Bernie Sanders as a choice for Muslims.
After the failed campaign in 2016, the planning stages for making progressive movement permanent one and Bernie's 2020 presidential bid has begun.
Sometime in 2017, Bernie Sanders and his associates made a grave mistake of miscalculating this phenomenon as a way to consolidate all Muslim American voters to support him. This comes at a time, Saudi Wahhabi funding in the United States is in full swing and Islamic lobby is now a well-oiled machine ready for prime-time waiting for the right opportunity to seize political power in the United States. A record number of Muslim Americans ran for office in 2018 enjoying endorsement and support from Bernie Sanders, "Our Revolution" and "Justice Democrats".
With the success of 2018 midterms especially with Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib elections, the underlying sentiment that Muslim voter consolidation would help Bernie Sanders campaign gets validated. Decisions were made, campaign staffing has begun and ground-level organization is underway. The only problem is Michigan and Minnesota has highest concentration Arab Muslims and this trend would not necessarily hold true across United States. This decision later would result into shenanigans that further contributed to loss of millions of Indian American and Jewish American votes who traditionally vote democrats.
As if it's match made in heaven, Pakistan was already in full swing in hiring lobby firms in order get more influence in American politics especially with FATF decision to place Pakistan in "grey-list" with irrefutable evidence that Pakistan is harboring terrorists as a weapon against India and countering growing influence of India within the United States. Bernie Sanders campaign is the perfect vehicle to achieve its goals. Enter 2020 Bernie's Presidential campaign manager - Faiz Shakir.
The curious case of Faiz Shakir:
Jeff Weaver, 2016 Bernie Sanders presidential campaign manager did a phenomenal job of closing 60 points with Hillary Clinton. That's a great feat considering Bernie Sanders, an unknown independent senator from Vermont with virtually no name recognition. Jeff is a close friend of Bernie Sanders for decades who is also ideologically similar to Bernie Sanders.
However, Faiz Shakir was appointed as campaign manager in February 2019 to lead 2020 Bernie Sanders presidential campaign. This came as surprise as Faiz Shakir was part of the same establishment Bernie has been fighting all his life. Faiz started his career as a junior staffer for John Kerry presidential campaign in 2004. In 2005 he started working for the Center for American Progress for over a decade which is an establishment organization led by Neera Tanden. In addition to that, he was a close associate of Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid. Faiz was also ardent supporter and part of Hillary Clinton campaign in both 2008 and 2016 primaries. So how this establishment insider has become 2020 Bernie Sanders campaign manager? A dishonest alliance between Progressive movement and Islamic/Pakistani lobby trying to achieve it's foreign policy goals.
Faiz Shakir's goal was to build to an Islamic campaign according to his own Wikileaks email. Bernie Sanders campaign was the perfect opportunity for allowing him to do so. This was further documented in another Wikileaks email below.
Tumblr media
Faiz Shakir, a first-generation Pakistani American is a Muslim-advocate in the United States. He mostly gets positive press because he was part of establishment think-tanks like Center for American Progress and his media called ThinkProgress. He is often seen as an inspiring figure by the left referring to him as a "civil rights advocate" as he is National Political Director for ACLU. Ironically he got the job through a recommendation from John Podesta but not by merits, according to leaked Wikileaks email below.
Tumblr media
Ironically Faiz Shakir's wife Sarah Miller is part of network of Pierre Omidyar, former eBay billionaire, media mogul, who deserves his own article. In short, he likes Neo Nazis and loves conflicts around the world.
He was also seen mocking Bernie Sanders for his ideology like -
"yeah, my favorite part is how he connects is to "billionaire families" in the Arab world. Always goes back to the billionaires. Hilarious. It sounds a bit too much like "our war in Syria and Iraq is ultimately a battle to reshape Islam". We'd lose that one. But I like the direction he's going. Maybe you could one-up him with: "ISIS is trying to behead Islam" (kidding, don't do that)"
Tumblr media
So how was Bernie Sanders taken for a ride and fooled into hiring Faiz Shakir? The answer lies
in as much as Bernie Sanders is against lobby-ism, he was part of the game where he failed to realize lobby-ism exists in the progressive spectrum as well. Pakistan Intelligence agency secretly funnels millions of dollars to political leaders indirectly, like the shocking incident in 2018 where Federal agents took prominent Pakistani American into custody over proven illegal funneled lobbies over Kashmir policy.
Regarding Faiz Shakir's history, In 2002 he earned a bachelor’s degree in government at Harvard University, where he was a member of the Harvard Islamic Society (HIS). In 2000, Shakir served as a co-chair for HIS’s Islamic Awareness Week events, one of which was a fundraiser for the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development (HLF), a group that acted as the fundraising arm for Hamas in the United States. HLF was later shut down by the feds, and its leaders were found guilty of sending money to Hamas, which has been designated a Foreign Terrorist Organization by the U.S. Department of States.
Shakir co-authored the “Fear Inc.” report, which implicitly claimed that Islamophobia was the product of a Jewish conspiracy, and wrote positively about the Tunisian Islamist Al-Nahda Party and its genocidal head, Sheikh Rashid Ghannouchi, who has engaged in blatant anti-Semitism and has said, “There are no civilians in Israel. The population—males, females, and children—are the army reserve soldiers, and thus can be killed.”
Fatal Downward spiral of Bernie's campaign:
Linda Sarsour's surrogate appointment:
The red flag of controversial Sharia Law proponent Linda Sarsour surely made several progressives scratch their heads, but her comments like "waging jihad against the United States" never raised eyebrows in Bernie's Campaign. In 2011 she famously mocked Islamic female genital mutilation victim - Ayaan Hirsi Ali that "She’s asking 4 an a$$ whippin’. I wish I could take their vaginas away- they don’t deserve to be women". She is a strong proponent and open advocate of Sharia law. She is so controversial that even women's march cut ties with her due to her anti-semite/radical Islam views and close ties with the Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan.
Matt Duss's foreign-policy advisor appointment:
Matt Duss like Faiz Shakir comes from the family of Center for American Progress and ThinkProgress, it is widely believed that Faiz Shakir is the reason why he was pulled into Bernie Sanders campaign.
Matt Duss is everything opposite to what Bernie Sanders stands for, he is a strong proponent for RussiaGate, a debunked theory democrats failed to materialize. Matt Duss is the reason Bernie Sanders engages in out of place narrative that Russia hacked 2016 elections which ironically used against him now. He scripted Bernie Sanders foreign policy from Venezuela to Russia.
Bernie Sanders abrupt affiliation and appearances with "Islamic Society of North America" (ISNA):
Founded by Muslim student organizations tightly linked to Muslim brotherhood in 1963, Bernie Sanders began supporting these conventions starting from 2017 and even attended for a speech in 2019.
But Karnabro, you are just being an islamophobe, what's wrong with attending Islamic convention? A normie reader might ask.
I have no problem with Islamic conventions, but Bernie Sanders being champion of LGBT rights giving validation to the organization who banned LGBT groups as recently as in 2017 on the grounds of "religious and private event" is what I have problem with. He also took the opportunity to share his second-hand ill-advised opinion on India-Pakistan Kashmir issue, sharing the stage with Pakistan's PM Imran Khan. Faiz Shakir used his connections to make the coalition of Pakistan's PM Imran Khan and Bernie Sanders happen, especially in the sensitive Kashmir Issue. Ironically the issue where Kashmir was integrated into India protecting LGBT rights and minorities by removing autonomous existing sharia law rules.
Bernie's abrupt change in foreign policy outlook regarding India and Kashmir:
Bernie Sanders. who never spoke about India-Pakistan's Kashmir issue in his entire career in started putting out narratives about how Kashmir is should be freed from India failing to understand the complex history of the issue that originated in 1947. His comments consistently criticized India's decision to integrate Kashmir under Indian law from status-quo Sharia law. This is an uncharted territory where a US presidential candidate interfering with a sovereign democratic country's internal issues which are India's, especially when they are based on flawed and misguided arguments. The final nail in the coffin for any Indian-American support happened just before Super Tuesday where Bernie Sanders weighed in violent Delhi riots which were orchestrated by Indian Muslims, where the riots led to the majority of casualties who are Indian Hindus. The grave mistake committed by Bernie Sanders is that he tweeted this below. Ironically the article he tagged doesn't mention that it's "anti-Muslim mob violence" as the fact is that it's anti-Hindu mob violence where the majority of Hindus were killed including an Indian Federal intelligence officer who was stabbed 200 times.
Tumblr media
There is a reason why historically presidential candidates don't indulge in polarizing foreign policy, especially in the areas where they are not knowledgeable. There is a reason why Obama had bromance with Modi in 2015. Modi is a popular leader who Indian establishment/media hates, but ultimately loved majority of Indians because of his progressive policies.
Read more about Modi.
Bernie Campaign's Collusion with Pakistani establishment and government:
Bernie Sanders who indulged in Russiagate in the past, found himself to be in similar position except, the collusion is now between Bernie's campaign and Pakistan.
Bernie Sanders and Pakistan's PM Imran Khan shared the same stage in 2019 ISNA convention sharing identical views on India's internal issues like Kashmir.
During Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Houston, Bernie Sanders personally took some time off in order to write an oped about India in Houston Chronicle, a stunt which surprised many as Bernie choose to write an oped regarding Indian Foreign Policy instead of opeds that explain his policies to American voters. This is a blunder in a presidential campaign in modern history, as Bernie who was favorite to win Texas managed to lose the primary to Joe Biden. Considering Modi's event in Houston attracted 50000 audience, probably the best way to lose hundreds of thousands of Indian American votes in order to appease a foreign government, Pakistan. Thanks to Faiz Shakir, Bernie's campaign manager getting the priorities straight.
Following is one of thousands of pro Bernie banners that one can find in Pakistan, promoted by Pakistan's government. One can understand why cash strapped Pakistani government choosing to spend on behalf of Bernie Sanders campaign in Islamabad, Pakistan. Once again, thanks to Faiz Shakir.
Tumblr media
Bernie Sanders campaign's coordinated attack on Tulsi Gabbard:
Tulsi Gabbard was an early supporter of Bernie Sanders 2016 presidential campaign. It came as surprise to Indian Americans as Bernie surrogates started coordinated attacks against beloved Tulsi Gabbard which are inherently Hinduphobic and false smears. This religious bigotry expressed by Bernie surrogates towards Tulsi Gabbard probably would not go well with millions of Indian Americans who support her.
Out of place anti-Indian and pro-Pakistani shenanigans within Bernie's campaign:
After the launch of Bernie's presidential campaign, there was a weird trend of campaign insiders courting fringe elements like Sameera Khan, a well known Pakistani propagandist who idolizes Stalin, Pakistan and China's fascist policies. Ironically she is popular among Bernie supporters even though she is anti-Bernie when it comes to Pakistan-China nexus.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mehdi Hasan who was against Bernie till 2019, suddenly becomes Bernie Sanders fan. He is a great individual with some amazing views.
Ro Khanna validating a hinduphobic Khalistani troll - Pieter Friedrich. Learn more about the rising 2020 Khalistani movement here.
Ro Khanna's weird pro-Pakistan signaling by joining Congressional Pakistan Caucus even though he is not Pakistani.
Pramila Jayapal abrupt attempt to hijack a US official meeting with Indian diplomat where she was not invited regarding the issue of Kashmir.
Appointment of Khalistani terrorism sympathizer Arjun Sethi as a campaign surrogate. Learn more about Khalistani terrorist movement.
Conclusion:
While Bernie Sanders and his close associates lack the critical thinking about avoiding getting taken over by Pakistani/Islamic lobby, it is unfortunate for millions of progressives that progressive movement is dead as they know it.

Queen Máxima will arrive in Pakistan from November 25 to 27 as the Special Advocate of the UN Secretary General for Inclusive Financing for Development (UNSGSA).
Her Majesty Queen Máxima will visit Pakistan from Monday 25 November to Wednesday 27 November in her capacity as the UN Secretary-General’s Special Advocate for Inclusive Finance for Development. She will be discussing progress made on providing access to financial services with the aim of improving the economic position of people in Pakistan.
Queen Máxima is undertaking the visit at the invitation of the Pakistani government. It is a follow-up to the UN visit that took place in February 2016 (see Government Information Service news item no. 24, 2016). In Pakistan 21% of adults now have a bank account, up from 13% in 2014 (Global Findex). Despite this increase, 99 million Pakistanis still have no access to financial services such as bank or savings accounts, insurance, loans, pensions or digital payment methods. This limits their opportunities for development. Those most affected are people living in poverty, women, small business owners and people in remote rural areas.
One of Queen Máxima’s priorities is ensuring that women can access financial services. Only 7% of women have a bank account. Gender data needs to be gathered to gain insight into their specific needs in terms of access and use. Greater inclusion can also be achieved by digitising government payments such as social benefits. Fintech – the use of technology in financial services – offers an array of options for simple methods of banking, for instance via mobile phones. Regulations need to be adapted to safeguard privacy and ensure security and efficiency.
In Islamabad Queen Máxima will speak with international development partners, representatives from the fintech sector, the governor of the State Bank of Pakistan Reza Baqir, the prime minister’s financial advisor Abdul Hafeez Shaikh and the chairman of the National Database & Registration Authority (NADRA), Usman Mubin. She will also meet with President Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Imran Khan.
Queen Máxima will attend the launch of the Micro Payment Gateway, an initiative of the State Bank aimed at reducing the costs of small payments and boosting digital transactions to benefit people living in poverty in particular. She will also pay a field visit to a project set up by the CEO Partnership for Economic Inclusion (CEOP). The CEOP is an informal partnership of ten international businesses in various sectors, working to improve access to financial services and expand market potential. The CEOP met for the first time during the World Economic Forum in Davos in January 2018 at Queen Máxima’s invitation. In Lahore Queen Máxima will visit several projects with a focus on digital financial services that help business owners develop their businesses.
