European openers IRON MAIDEN had recently toured their home country extensively with their first album, so they opted to take a break from the tour, and GIRL, the band featuring Phil Lewis (soon to be singer with L.A. GUNS) and Phil Collen (soon to be in DEF LEPPARD) along with the Laffy brothers, Gerry and Simon, were brought in to open the five shows in England. GIRL had a cover of KISS' DO YOU LOVE ME? on their debut album SHEER GREED. In 1989, NOLA's own LILLIAN AXE covered MY NUMBER, another song from SHEER GREED. Ace was still running high off the creative ozone of his solo album and was churning out rockers like these when the other members were getting a little soft. Ace handles bass duties on this one, so it only features two Kiss members plus Anton Fig on drums. Hard Times was released in May, 1979 as the b-side to I Was Made For Lovin' You. It's one of Ace's favourite songs and wishes the band had performed it live. Ace recollects on the subject matter of Hard Times; " The lyrics talk about when I used to go to high school and cut classes. I went to high school for five years [laughs]. I was a sophomore for two years, one year I partied away [laughs] and I don't remember half the things I did.
