disco elysium fandom. y'all are super cool ily but we DESPERATELY need to talk about media literacy and some of y'alls perception of the characters. cus recently i've seen way too much discourse where jean is either the spawn of satan or kim is the second coming of Christ. GUYS. GUYS. they are BOTH flawed individuals, they are both extremely human characters and reducing then to either JUST their positive or negative attributes is such a disservice to the masterpieces of writing that they are.
kim especially to me is so interesting to discuss on how the fandom treats him as a God (i get it dw i love him dearly but he's not a saint) since we view him exclusively from harry's perspective, y'know the guy who basically pulled him out of his depression coma and stopped him from spiralling even more and potentially killing himself, so of course harry is more likely to ignore kim's flaws and, by proxy, the player is too

I hate it when DE fans go "ACAB except Kim Kitsuragi".
No you dumbass, it would completely include Kim. You didn't get the game, you didn't get Kim's backstory, if you seriously believe that.
Like, sorry to break it to you, but Kim has issues with the fact he will always be patronized and discriminated, and one of the reasons is because he is part seolite. He tried to be a revolutionary, except it didn't work out thanks to the puppet state Revachol lives in, so his next best opportunity to be accepted is to be assimilated by the fascist system that is the Police; AND EVEN THEN he is patronized, discriminated, and ignored.
He takes bribes, he has an absurd car paid by the state, he gets mad at Harry for being drunk and drugged on the job; not because that's a bad thing, BUT BECAUSE IT MAKES THE RCM LOOK BAD. He doesn't care if Cuno is an abandoned child that deals and uses drugs, because "it's outside of our jurisdiction". And there's a lot of complex and interesting layers of why Kim is on the RCM, yet none of them are proof that Kim "doesn't count".
EVEN WORSE the game points out that Kim is incredibly conflicted by the fact that he wishes he could do more, the revolutionary at heart that he is, but he CAN'T, and how the RCM is part of that issue. But nuh-uh, y'all refuse to seriously analyze the RCM as a system, because then you would have to face the inevitable allegory that it's to the irl police system; so you just skip all that and go "but Kim is the exception 🥰".

youre misinterpreting, i dont lol. what my post was about is how people will fully believe harry and kim are 100% good people, or say things like "acab - except for kim!" the game hammers in how being part of the police has ruined their lives and isolated them from the average person, many fans just have a one track mind when it comes to seeing characters they like. so, they end up regurgitating pro-cop talking points, including the one i made that post specifically about: that joining the police will turn somebodys (in this case, cunos) life around for the better.

common fandom opinion that everyone is wrong about
this is more a minor difference in opinion than something i like, actually get mad about or feel like "you're WRONG!!" when i see it but it's the only thing i can come up with right now. obviously harry should quit the rcm but i DON'T think he should go back to being a gym teacher. if we take him suffering from post polio syndrome as canon (which i do) then excessive physical activity would exacerbate that for him. man should not be running around all day for solving cases OR teaching gym. my personal hc is art teacher harry but that's not something i feel is Objectively Correct or anything
