Y’all ever wondered how the Hungarian dub for Arsenic and Old Lace sounds. How Peter would sound if he actually knew how to speak the language of his home country (because he was born here, our side, not Austria, Rózsahegy is ours… or was…). Well… the dub is certainly… something… I gotta admit I only tried to watch the dub once, but the vid kept buffering so I gave up, I didn’t even get to hear my mans speak the first time around. Also the movie just cuts back to the English voices at one point and then switches back. It’s a feature not a bug~ <3

I'm all for queer representation in shows and movies. It makes people like us feel seen, heard and accepted. However, I don't believe society should put pressure on celebrities and public figures to come out to us. It's not our place and they are under no obligation to do so. They're human. They deserve privacy and respect.
I understand how we think certain characters, story lines, music, etc, can feel like we're being saved. I understand that feeling myself, but they don't owe you anything for that.
I'm seeing this a lot with Danielle Savre/Stefania Spampinato, Paget Brewster/AJ Cook, D'Arcy Carden/Abbi Jacobson, Jenna Ortega/Emma Myers, Taylor Swift and so many more.
They're human. Let them be that.

Enola Holmes 2    [trailer]
Now a detective-for-hire, Enola Holmes takes on her first official case to find a missing girl as the sparks of a dangerous conspiracy ignite a mystery that requires the help of friends - and Sherlock himself - to unravel.
Another round of jolly good fun. With a case that has historical social relevance.
For its enjoyment the breaking of the 4th wall is ... elementary.

Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead: Rosencrantz and Guildenstern have been summoned to Elsinore by the king, Claudius. He and Queen Gertrude, wish for Rosencrantz and Guildenstern to glean what sudden sway of madness has affected Hamlet. The duo sets out to achieve their task, meeting a ragged troupe of players along the way. Brief glimpses of scenes from Hamlet show the trials and tribulations of the royals; our two heroes are largely left in a state of waiting. They pass the time playing games, posing questions, and tossing coins, until they gradually realize that their fates have been taken out of their own hands. They are merely characters in a larger story in which they have no say.
Antigone: After Oedipus' self-exile, his sons Eteocles and Polynices engaged in a civil war for the Theban throne, which resulted in both brothers dying fighting each other. Oedipus' brother-in-law and new Theban ruler Creon ordered the public honoring of Eteocles and the public shaming of Thebes' traitor Polynices. The story follows the attempts of Antigone, the sister of Eteocles and Polynices, to bury Polynices, going against the decision of her uncle Creon and placing her relationship with her brother above human laws.
Arsenic and Old Lace: Mortimer Brewster goes to visit his sweet spinster aunts to announce his engagement. Mortimer always knew that his family had a bit of a mad gene - his brother believes himself to be Teddy Roosevelt - but his world is turned upside down when he realizes that his dear aunts have been poisoning lonely old men for years! When Mortimer’s maniacal brother, Jonathan, who strangely now resembles Boris Karloff, returns on the night that the aunts were planning to bury the newest victim, Mortimer must rally to help his aunts and protect his fiancé -- all while trying to keep his own sanity.
Propaganda under the cut!
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead:
what if we were both minor characters in Hamlet forced to die over and over again in a timeloop and we were both guys 😳. basically one of the only modern straight plays i know and its just so good!!!!!!!! Rosencratz's death monolouge gets me everytime
This play is for people that love Shakespeare, but also love weird shit. It somehow offers really insightful commentary on stories and fate and purpose while also feeling like a fever dream.
an existential and brilliant deconstruction of hamlet
it’s good
Hamlet fanfic involving the game of questions and frequently not being on boats.
No, I'm tired sorry
waiting for godot meets hamlet. best of both worlds
A heartbreaking examination of the archetype “tragedy” — the knowledge that, essentially, the characters are doomed from the beginning, and cannot escape their fates, the inescapable feeling that they’re simply characters in a story. RAGAD treats the genre with comedy and makes two seemingly meaningless characters into an everyone’s favorite duo.
what if we were doomed by the narrative and flipped coins and licked feet and hid in barrels and hung out with a suspicious actor troupe who eventually turns against us and also we have to figure out what's up with hamlet because claudius told us to? and we were both boys? just kidding! ....unless?
I know the whole thing off by heard and I’ve never been in it. Does that count. Also it deserves to win because of what the awful awful film did to it.
Antigone:
Extremely seminal and powerful.
Play of all time. That is all.
A play from the 5th century BCE that’s still resonant today
something about the worst punishment not being death but rather being forced to live on in a world that has already spurned you. something about sisterhood. something about "too late, too late, you see what justice means"
Arsenic and Old Lace:
it's a "farcical black comedy" "Abby and Martha Brewster, who have taken to murdering lonely old men by poisoning them with a glass of home-made elderberry wine laced with arsenic, strychnine, and "just a pinch" of cyanide"(Wikipedia)
A man discovers that his little old aunts are killing people and having his one brother, who thinks he's Teddy Roosevelt, dig "the Panama Canal" in the basement so they can bury the bodies. Then his brother who's a murderer comes home after having botched plastic surgery that made him look like Boris Karloff (who played him in the original production). It's very silly and wonderful

Enola poster analysis
The Enola poster 2 is actualy much more then just a fun picture puzzle to spot the main actors. It actually tells us a lot about the story already
The most important thing is a) where the people are looking at and b) the details
1. Sherlock and Moriaty
While Enola Holmes 2 was filmed, there were uncomfirmed rumors that Moriaty might play an important role in the upcoming movie. And surprise, surprise, the poster features THIS headline:
Tumblr media
“Sherlock Holmes has met his N...” Nemesis? And who is also part of the Enola 2 cast who recently played a lot of baddies? David Thewlis. Who can also be found on the poster:
Tumblr media
Staring directly at Holmes, who looks really concerned
Tumblr media
2. Looks
It is really important to identify where the characters are looking at. Because “Moriaty” is not the only one looking at Holmes. So is Sharon Duncan-Brewster (who plays a kind of sinister role, if i remeber correctly... which can mean everything. The Irregulars John Watson was also supposed to be “sinister” and then turned out to be a heartbroken gay man being in love with Sherlock..), Abbie Hern (we do not know who she plays so far...) and Tewkesbury.
Tumblr media
I am really surprised Tewkesbury is not looking at Enola but maybe he is searching for her? Because.... point 3
3. Enola
Tumblr media
She is the only one looking directly at the viewer, the only one not moving, completly relaxed. And look who is the only one spotting her:
Tumblr media
Lestrade.
But more important, this:
Tumblr media
A wanted-Poster for Enola. Which would also explain why we see her handcuffed in the newest promo pics.
4. Details
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There are a lot of envlopes handed around, but also a Right for Women flyer, and you can NOT see who the hand belongs to. Notice also, no Eudoria in the poster, at least I can not see her...? Is it her hand?
5. Looks 2
Tumblr media
Most of the people are looking to the right side of the picture. Something is happening there. Only a few are looking the other way. F.e. the character of Gabriel Tierney who is standing close to Enola
6. Further Details
The Lyon Matches, in the right bottom corner, hinting at the girl going missing. And a widow in the middle of the pic. We already saw some BTS pics with Tewkesbury  being at a kind of funeral.
I am left confused about the girl in male cloths in the left corner. And I am having a hard time identifying all the men on the picture. Who are they?

REVIEW: Insanity Doesn't Just Run in DLT'S "Arsenic and Old Lace," It Practically Gallops
Tumblr media
Dundas Little Theatre (DLT) opens its 2023-24 season with the darkly comedic classic Arsenic and Old Lace. It's a great thematic choice for October: full of mystery, murder and of course, a little mayhem for good measure. Skillfully directed by Peter Lloyd, Arsenic and Old Lace is full of madcap characters, jabs at the theatre industry and its critics (of which there were several in the opening night audience) and despite its long run time of nearly 3 hours (3 Acts, 2 Intermissions), it captivates its audience with its hilarious mishaps and madness.
The story is a classic of old Hollywood black and white cinema with Cary Grant taking on the lead role of Mortimer Brewster, a man who has to navigate between his aunts’ penchant for poisoning wine, a brother who thinks he’s Teddy Roosevelt, and another brother using plastic surgery to hide from the police—not to mention Mortimer’s own hesitancy about marriage to his partner Elaine. If that sounds like a whirlwind of a production by synopsis alone, you'd be correct in saying so. Thankfully, we have an incredibly strong cast and after the opening night nerves subside, they excel at bringing delightfully comedic moments (especially physical), great banter back and forth, pointed commentary regarding the theatre world and its critics and an almost Benny Hill type use of the stage (there's even a few unexpected jump scares).
The leads in the production shine throughout with a few excellent scene stealers. Brian Melanson as Mortimer has brilliant facial reactions and a real knack for portraying believable manic energy. Both Ruth Flynn and Jessica Thomas-Troian as Aunt Abby and Martha respectively play out their darker deeds with such infectious sweetness, I'd eagerly take a glass of elderberry wine just because I'd feel rude not to. Tim Hevesi is a foreboding presence who immediately unnerves you as the criminally insane and family outcast Jonathan Brewster but also has a fantastic ability to use his menace for comedic purposes. Christine Marchetti is a sassy and grounded Elaine Harper, Mortimer's fiancée who finds herself the only sane character in the household. All these actors are no strangers to the stage and understand the nuances of dark comedy well.
Our scene stealers come from Jared Lenover as Teddy Brewster and Bruce Edwards as Dr. Einstein (no, not that one). Both of these actors are an absolute joy to watch from the moment they are introduced. There is an innocent enthusiasm from Lenover's Teddy who believes he is President Theodore Roosevelt and his mental health is utilized by his beloved aunties to hide any evidence of their "charitable intentions." The ongoing gag of his character would come off as tedious if it wasn't played with such endearing sincerity. Edwards plays the bumbling, drunken cowardice of Dr. Einstein with such dedication that it is easy to see why he steals every scene he is in. The line delivery and almost Muppet-like German accent are met with continuous laughter and his physical comedy skills are top notch.
The ensemble cast also delivers fine performances and overall, match the energy of the leads as they enter the Brewster madhouse. Truly, there are no small parts here as every cast member provides laughter and delight.
Arsenic and Old Lace has a well-established, classic sense of dark comedy, slapstick and charm. The script itself allows for so much physicality and ability for the cast to develop the characters into believable people rather than caricatures. It is a long show (bring cushions!) but it is well worth the time spent in the theatre and will provide audiences with plenty of laughs, intrigue and insanity. Don't miss it!
