Just added It’s A Very Merry Muppet Christmas to the Christmas with So Weird playlist. It’s one of the first things Dave Squatch Ward worked on after So Weird ended.

I wrote about it before and a copy of Christmas Every Day featuring his So Weird son, Erik von Detten, is also on the playlist.

There are copies of A Madea Christmas (the one with Eric Lively) floating around. Two of the copies were the same with glitches of scenes being out of order (!). I can’t find other copies (yet) that are better to upload.

However, as Eileen predicts, things are not what they seem. Not to mention, her mom and good old Madea’s niece, Eileen is planning a surprise visit, bringing smart-mouthed Madea with her, against Lacey’s wishes. Our story revolves around a young school teacher, Lacey and her struggle to help the town out with their goal of participating in their annual Christmas Jubilee and adjusting to life in the country with her new husband, Connor (whom she had secretly eloped with). They’re not likely to erect a Madea statue in Atlanta any time soon, but the old broad at least deserves a decent burial.It’s almost Christmas time! And everyone is getting into the Christmas spirit in southern Georgia. Where once she and Perry represented “black cinema” as a whole, now he is one in a multitude of voices. Like it or not, Madea has sustained African-American film-making through lean, pre-#OscarsSoWhite times. He is quite possibly the most successful indie film-maker of all time. In 2012, he signed a huge TV deal with Oprah’s OWN network and signed an even huger one with Paramount and BET in 2017 (maybe why he no longer needs Madea). He produced non-Madea movies such as Precious and For Colored Girls and the new Tiffany Haddish comedy Nobody’s Fool. Now Perry runs a 330-acre studio in Atlanta. He kept on rewriting and restaging his works until he found a shtick that clicked. He first tried her out in 1999, in low-budget stage productions which he wrote, directed, financed, starred in, and sold the half-time popcorn at.

Writer Donald Bogle also described Madea as “mammy-like”, observing: “If a white director put out this product, the black audience would be appalled.” Such criticisms are condescending towards his audiences, says Perry.īut even his critics see how far Perry has come. Spike Lee has dismissed Perry’s films as humiliating, racially stereotyping “coonery and buffoonery”. Not that everyone loves Madea by any means. Its sequels have fared little better, but the franchise has made nearly half a billion dollars. To many, Madea movies are virtually unwatchable: her 2005 movie debut, Diary of a Mad Black Woman, has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 16%. In the movies, her painfully broad slapstick is often mixed in with soapy family melodrama dealing with themes of domestic violence, religious salvation and conservative family values (Perry is a Christian). She speaks in exaggerated “Ebonics”, shuns political correctness, commits crimes and often asserts her ol’-time values with the aid of firearms. Her pantomime-dame antics make Eddie Murphy’s Nutty Professor II: The Klumps look Shakespearean. Few will mourn her passing but it’s the end of some kind of era.įor the uninitiated, which includes most non-African Americans, Madea is a bewildering proposition, her enduring popularity even more so. After nearly 20 years, 10 stage plays, 10 movies, numerous cameos and even a straight-to-DVD animation, Perry announced he is retiring the Madea character after next year’s A Madea Family Funeral. “Time for me to bury that old broad, man.” Usually that’s no way to talk about a septuagenarian great-grandmother, but Perry is referring to his own fat-suited alter ego, and many would agree with him. “I ’m sick of that old bitch,” Tyler Perry recently said of Mabel “ Madea” Simmons.

She is known for her roles as Thelma Frye on Amen (1986–91), and as Dee Baxter on The Wayans Bros. (1995–99). She had dramatic roles on The Shield playing A.D.A. Beth Encardi and on The Bold and the Beautiful as Vivienne Avant, for which she was nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Special Guest Performer in a Drama Series. She appeared in several movies, most notably as Craig Jones' mother Betty in Friday and its sequel Friday After Next. Her other film credits include Times Square (1980), The Fan (1981), Presumed Innocent (1990), Set It Off (1996), Along Came a Spider (2001), Our Family Wedding (2010), and A Madea Christmas (2013). She was born in Harlem to Victor Horsford, an investment real estate broker originally from the Dominican Republic, and Lillian Agatha Horsford, who emigrated from Antigua and Barbuda in the 1940s. She grew up in a family of five children. She is married to Daniel Wolf. Horsford was born in Harlem, New York City to Victor Horsford, an investment real estate broker originally from Barbuda and Lillian Agatha (née Richardson) Horsford, who emigrated from Antigua and Barbuda in the 1940s. She grew up in a family of five children. According to a DNA analysis, she has maternal ancestry from the Limba people of Sierra Leone.

Horsford attended Wadleigh Junior High School and the High School of Performing Arts. After high school, she got into acting through the Harlem Youth for Change program.

Her first job out of high school was with the Joe Papp’s Public Theater, a part in Coriolanus at the Delacorte in Central Park.

On October 29, 2011, Horsford was awarded the title of Ambassador of Tourism of Antigua. She is also a member of Sigma Gamma Rho sorority.

Her first major role in television was as a producer for the PBS show Soul!, hosted by Ellis Haizlip, which aired between 1968 and 1973. One of her first TV appearances was in 1973 on the first run syndication game show of To Tell the Truth where she was an imposter for Laura Livingston, one of the first female military police. Horsford made guest appearances on such sitcoms as The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Sparks, Moesha, The Bernie Mac Show, The Shield, Girlfriends, and Everybody Hates Chris.

Horsford currently has a recurring role as Vivienne Avant on The Bold and the Beautiful. For the role, she was nominated for Outstanding Special Guest Performer in a Drama Series in the 43rd Daytime Emmy Awards.

She began playing a recurring role on B Positive in the show's second-season premiere. She also has appeared in the TBS sitcom The Last O.G. featuring Tracy Morgan, as a recurring character (Tray's mother).

"Madea Goes to Jail" (2009)

In "Madea Goes to Jail," the titular character is sentenced to prison after getting into a fight at a family member's court hearing. While in prison, Madea befriends a young woman named Linda (played by Keke Palmer) and helps her to turn her life around. "Madea's Big Happy Family" (2011)

In "Madea's Big Happy Family," Madea is called upon to help her niece Shirley (played by Loretta Devine) after she learns she has cancer. The film also stars Bow Wow, Shannon Kane, and Teyana Taylor, and it was directed by Tyler Perry.

"Madea's Witness Protection" (2012)

In "Madea's Witness Protection," Madea takes in a family in witness protection after their father (played by Eugene Levy) accidentally gets involved in a Ponzi scheme. The film also stars Denise Richards, Tom Arnold, and Tyler Perry, and it was directed by Tyler Perry. Its somewhat similar to the pink panther movies in order.

"A Madea Christmas" (2013)

In "A Madea Christmas," Madea is called upon to help her friend Eileen (played by Anna Maria Horsford) when she receives a surprise visit from her estranged daughter (played by Tika Sumpter) and granddaughter (played by Chad Michael Murray) during the Christmas holidays. The film also stars Larry the Cable Guy and Kathy Najimy, and it was directed by Tyler Perry.
