i’ve recently been rereading through my favorite books growing up, the Gemma Doyle Trilogy
since middle school, it’s been like a kind of dream to draw Gemma and do her justice
this series really got me back into reading as a kid, so thank you @libbabraysactualblog ❤️

They are demons, both of them, wonderful and beautiful and not quite real.

A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray
1/1/2023-1/7/2023, 2nd read
5/5 stars
I read this trilogy in high school and was obsessed with it. I was gifted the books for Christmas this past year and was so excited to read it again. A Great and Terrible Beauty is still as wonderful as I remember it. The way Libba Bray describes the realms is so enchanting and makes me want to visit, myself. Gemma will always be one of my favorite characters.

But forgiveness...I'll hold on to that fragile slice of hope and keep it close, remembering that in each of us lie good and bad, light and dark, art and pain, choice and regret, cruelty and sacrifice. We're each of us our own chiaroscuro, our own bit of illusion fighting to emerge into something solid, something real. We've got to forgive ourselves that. I must remember to forgive myself. Because there's an awful lot of gray to work with. No one can live in the light all the time.

'No, [The Lady of Shalott] dies for love,' Pippa says, sounding sure of herself for the first time. 'She can't live without him. It's terribly romantic.' Miss Moore gives a wry smile. 'Or romantically terrible.'

Totally random but when I was a preteen I loved the Gemma Doyle series and I think it should be the next YA adaption on Netflix

How I'd love to get to away from here and be someone else for a while in a place where no one knows or expects certain things from me.
