The fourth and final part of my guide to the G1 Climax! Cutting it a bit fine with less than 12 hours to go until the start of the G1, but going right up to the time limit seems in the spirit of the season somehow...
Before I go any further though, I have a correction to make. In my initial intro I said that the top scorer in each block would go through, but apparently it's the top two scorers going through this year! (Like they did in this year's BoSJ) Then there'll be quarter finals before the semis. I usually hate any kind of change because it's scary and weird, but I actually think this'll make things even more exciting! It means some more complicated maths, but it does open up the possibilities quite a bit!
And... that's it! That's every wrestler in the G1! Check out the other three parts if you haven't already. Thanks for reading and for all your lovely comments! It's been a blast to do this again, and has made me so happy to see people enjoying it and finding it useful. If you're new to NJPW and still have any questions, shoot me an ask and I'll do my best to answer! And feel free to let me know how you get on with the G1 if you do decide to watch! I always love talking wrestling!
Anyway, happy G1 everyone! May the best man (Toru Yano) win!
“That man is special. And I felt how special he was in the ring tonight.” February 11, 2024. Bryan Danielson admits that Zack Sabre Jr. is the best technical wrestler in the world, despite not winning by submission. When a reporter points this out, he concedes that maybe he does want one more: neutral ground, 2 out of 3 falls, any promoter in the world.
I was watching NJPW NJRiot - great matches and all, please have more tours around the world, but let's get to the meat and potatoes:
I jumped from my seat during the Jack Perry vs Shota Umino match because Jack did the UNPRETTIER - that was Christian Cage's move. I know everyone was talking about CM Punk's move the GTS or whatever I don't give a shite, but I saw that Unprettier, and I was like... can Christian appear in NJPW? He doesn't have to fight, just sits amongst the audience, smirking, watching Jack, and then the young man notices him and freaks out.

The match between Matt Riddle and Zack Sabre Jr... hoo-boy, that wasn't good. It wasn't bad, but I was like... they could do better than this. What the hell was this... Like, NOBODY CARED about this match. I was happy though that the crowd and the fans were behind Zack all the way, even I could see that ZSJ was jetlagged and definitely needed a stiff drink. Good performance from Zack, as always, and I am not being biased or anything. But Riddle... yiiissshh... Glad he lost, please get lost, Zack won, and all is well in the world now. But Zack seriously needs a better rival because Riddle is just not even at the top of the chain. Blergh. In the end, Zack was talking to the audience and being his charming and funny self.
