Taking the time to catalog some goings on in the world of Jen.

First, I feel a bit less overwhelmed with the yoga teacher training. There’s just a couple weeks left - we have next week off for the holiday - and I’ve mostly gotten all my assignments finished and turned in and all of my classes taught, aside from the hour long video of me that I have to turn in. I still have the A&P test to take and hand in - and I don’t believe I mentioned it, but that portion was ON TOP of all the other course work, class hours and personal yoga practice to the tune of 16 hours. FUCK!!!

That really threw the home life into a spin because it was 4 more additional 4 hour classes I hadn’t accounted for, and I already have 2 per week, a 4 hour Monday/Wednesday and every other Sunday. That really pushed the envelope and as supportive as Chris is and has been, I could really tell it strained him as he wasn’t able to get a break from Mr. Mom duty. The house suffered, my mood suffered, we fussed.... thankfully it’s past, we weren’t upset so much as frustrated, and it’s just hard when you get zero time together.

I have mixed emotions with the training coming to an end. Some portions and teachers I’ve REALLY enjoyed, and I’ll be sad the comradere with like minded individuals has passed. Though at the same time, with the same breath, I’ll be so relieved to have my evenings and weekends back.

Moving on, I went in for my second laser treatment. I had to cancel one because of the Florida jaunt, so I’m one behind, and she juiced my areas super charged to make some progress - shit fire and save matches, if that wasn’t INTENSE. There’s a day or so after as the hair follicles ‘sloth’ off and you feel like you have the mange, then you are smooth for a few weeks leading up to another session. I will more than likely require 6 with my dark hair. Fingers crossed I build up a tolerance hahaha most unenjoyable.

My work is more of the same. Needless drama. Pitfires created by people telling you how to do your job that don’t know how to do your job.... nothing new really to report aside from maybe not being off the day after Thanksgiving now because of a clerical error. They had myself and my partners double up, coming in on our days off to add multiple extra procedure days to catch up with the backlog closing down from covid has created, and as a lure, they promised to close the clinic for Black Friday..... except no one cancelled Black Friday, and now it’s a week away. I’m 10,000% not surprised in the slightest, except for the fact I didn’t anticipate this. Whatever. Just. Whatever. I say, go ahead and pay me that overtime and It’ll pay for Christmas. I can’t even be upset really, except I was mentally banking on that day. It is what it is though. Que sera sera m effers.

Now that I’ve dropped most of the illicit language bombs throughout this flavorful post, I’ll tell you about baby Jesus.

I get to my moms, and I walk in the back door, she yells from the other end of the house, ‘hey Jen, I’ll be right out, go look for baby Jesus in the sun room, he should be in there unless your dad got him with the vacuum cleaner.’ I stand there for a moment, and honestly? I thought she had chemo brain. So I scan the kitchen, walk into the sunroom looking around, nothings amiss, and then head back into the bedroom area.

I ask her, ‘hey, what was that you were yelling at me?’ HOPING I misheard her, thinking, shit, you just can’t lose it right now mom, you just can’t. And she says, ‘oh, you mean about baby Jesus?’ And I’m thinking, oh here we go. Either she’s gone around the bend or we’ve had a reckoning. Then she tells me, ‘well, we had that old felt nativity from church out, and Lilith lost baby Jesus. I found the shepherd on the couch, he was under the pillow, and one of the donkeys had made it into the dog bowl, but I’ve looked for Jesus everywhere, and honestly honey, I think your daddy sucked him up in the vacuum.’

Dr. Muata Ashby began studies in the area of religion and philosophy and achieved a doctorate degree in these areas while at the same time he began to collect his research into what would later become several books on the subject of the African History, religion and ethics, world mythology, origins of Yoga Philosophy and practice in ancient Africa (Ancient Egypt/Nubia) and also the origins of Christianity in Ancient Egypt. This was the catalyst for a successful book series on the subject called “Egyptian Yoga” begun in 1994. He has extensively studied mystical religious traditions from around the world and is an accomplished lecturer, musician, artist, poet, painter, screenwriter, playwright and author of over 60 books on yoga philosophy, religious philosophy and social philosophy based on ancient African principles. A leading advocate of the concept of the existence of advanced social and religious philosophy in ancient Africa comparable to the Eastern traditions such as Vedanta, Buddhism, Confucianism and Taoism, he has lectured and written extensively on the correlations of these with ancient African religion and philosophy.

Muata Abhaya Ashby holds a Doctor of Divinity Degree from the American Institute of Holistic Theology and a Masters degree in Liberal Arts and Religious Studies from Thomas Edison State College. He has performed extensive researched Ancient Egyptian philosophy and social order as well as Maat philosophy, the ethical foundation of Ancient Egyptian society. In recent years he has researched the world economy in the last 300 years, focusing on the United States of America and western culture in general. He is also a Teacher of Yoga Philosophy and Discipline. Dr. Ashby is an adjunct professor at the American Institute of Holistic Theology and worked as an adjunct professor at the Florida International University.

i swear i’m one more difficult work week away from packing up my things and moving to florida.  and by florida, i mean a liberal pocket in florida, like st. pete, bc we all know how shitty the political climate is down there. it’s a red, stand-your-ground state and it sucks. the heat makes people crazy and i would only feel safe if armed, yes. cue the *anything goes in florida* song from big mouth.  i can’t help but visualize this alternative version of myself. it’s like the culmination of everything i’m too scared to do or pursue: ditch my 9-5, enroll in yoga teacher training, dye the ends of my hair blue, publish a book of poetry...  maybe i can pursue a not so drastic version of this vision but we’ll see. bc on the other hand, i’m very happy with my 9-5 and don’t see why so many people bash it. of course i’m a journalist so every day looks different for me. that’s partially why i chose this career — to avoid the mundane, repetition. personally i prefer a regimented, structured style to my days/weeks and this career allows for that. but with everything, there’s pros and cons. and i’m feeling like a shift is coming on. idk just dumping my thoughts.
