Chapter 9: A Blue Blaze

"Good Morning, miss Baker!" The two women inside the Oracle Bakery jumped at the loud greeting, not quite used to such enthusiasm early in the morning "Steve, your secure escort, has arrived!"

Selena, the "Miss Baker" in question, gripped the cloth of her apron over her chest, trying to still the hectic beating of her heart. The scout kicked open the door and started cheerfully yelling immediately , completely and utterly taking her by surprise and almost giving her a mini heart attack. "Oh, uhh…" she cleared her throat as she gathered herself "...Steve, was it? Thank you for…coming?"

One scout instead of two, that was new. And that's who the three scouts were talking about, wasn't it? They mentioned that someone named Steve was being assigned to her, but she never would have guessed he would have been this…

"That's me! Steve! Nice to meet ya, miss Baker!" He greeted, giving her a mock salute "I trust you got the Emperor's order set and ready to go?"

…enthusiastic.

"Yes, of course, Steve." Selena nodded, taking the already prepared delivery box that was waiting on the counter and the bag with the journal that she brought down from her apartment last night. "My name is Selena, by the way." She offered her name as she stepped up from behind the counter "Selena Fortuna. Nice to meet you…too?"

"I'd shake your hand, but uh, seems they're both kinda full - want me to carry that box for ya?"

"No!" Selena quickly pulled back the hand holding the delivery box - a bit too fast and a bit too loud "I mean, no, uh, thank you. Deliveries go from my hands to the Emperor's, no one in between. Direct orders." After Selena cleared her throat, she suddenly felt bad for the rude outburst, so in return she extended her other arm towards him "But you can carry this bag for me, if you'd like?"

The scout took it from her as soon as she offered, pointing a finger gun at her with his free hand "You got it, miss Selena, glad to help!"

Titan below, this guy was just a pocketful of sunshine, wasn't he?

The two took off soon after, right after saying goodbye to Katya, and Selena wasn't sure if she was just getting used to the morning ritual, or if it was Steve's cool personality, but the walk to the palace just felt incredibly at peace. She couldn't put her finger on it, but he just had this… cool guy energy. Maybe this was the ultimate evil plan Emperor Belos hatched - sweeten her up by sending the sweetest, nicest cool dude he had in his coven, lower her defences! That's how he gets under her skin, and when she starts to trust him, BAM! He…he uhh…well she didn't know what he'd do to her, but it ain't gonna be good, she can tell you that much!

Lost in thought, she was brought back when Steve waved his hand in front of her face, startling her "Hey, you in there?"

"Oh goodness, I spaced out for a moment there! I’m sorry, the scouts so far never really…talked to me." Well, she spaced out for probably longer than a moment, as they already passed the bridge to the Palace. "What were you saying?"

"I was asking if you could hook me up with some sweets before you closed today, wanna take some to my baby brother." Steve asked as they both continued on inside "I totally forgot to look at what you have back at the shop, but like, pack me anything you think a kid would like."

"Oh!" She nodded "Yeah, no problem, I'll pack some popular choices out for you."

"Nice!" Selena had to assume he was grinning under that helmet with how cheerful his voice sounded "I'll pick it up before you close."

The witch smiled "You have a brother, then? How old is he?"

"He's pretty younger than me, the lil guy is 13!" Steve exclaimed pretty proudly "He started Hexside recently, not gonna lie, pretty proud of him!"

"Oh, Hexside, that's where I used to go, too!" Selena chided in "I wonder if Bump is still principal there, he used to be my…" as they walked through the golden halls, two figures caught her eye "...favourite."

She met eyes with Darius first, as he was the one facing her. His striking green eyes quickly glanced back to the man he spoke, nodding his head in a silent gesture to tell him to look behind, before shifting his attention back to her. And the man he was speaking to did exactly that, head turning to glance over his shoulder, flaming orange eyes meeting her softer brown ones, both equally taken by surprise.

And then the orange eyes narrowed into a frown, Selena instantly recognising the exact type of simmering anger stewing under the familiar face of her dear uncle Magnus.

"Oh shit."

She hesitated, stopping like a deer caught in the headlights as Magnus' eyes burned holes into her, only for Steve to pick up the slack and keep her walking forward with a guiding hand on her back. "Man, I've been dying to try stuff from your bakery as soon as word spread that the Emperor was a fan!" He continued the conversation completely oblivious to the silent exchange "I mean, those must be some really good pastries if Emperor Belos can't go a couple of days without his fix, haha am I right?"

"Shutupshutupshutup oh titan shut up!" Selena screamed internally, knowing Magnus was picking up on every single word Steve was carelessly throwing out. “Ha, haha, yeah totally…” she laughed nervously, brain racing to think of ways to derail the conversation from that specific topic but coming up blank.

“Hey now, not that way, I got instructions to take you to the drawing room!” Steve stopped her from trying to go to the throne room, thus avoiding passing Magnus and Darius directly “Emperor Belos is waiting for you there.”

“Y-yes, of course!” Selena quickly replied. To the drawing room, turning right, passing exactly the corner where her glaring uncle was “Of course he is…” Grandmother Isabella was the one who did divination from fire and ash, however right now, Selena was pretty sure Magnus had mastered fire magic from the blaze of anger she felt coming at her.

"Lena." Darius spoke as they passed, a casual greeting that Selena swore was a bit too cheeky, a bit too full of himself "Always a pleasure."

Magnus stayed silent, just staring.

"Hi Darius…" she nodded towards him, hesitating to do the same to Magnus "...uncle. I'm sure you can see I'm very busy, so I can't stop to talk." She turned to her escort "Isn't that right, Steve?"

"E-xactly!" Steve seemed oblivious of the family drama occuring silently right in front of him "Emperor's orders, miss Selena goes directly to him, as she has every other time she had been summoned by him."

"Steve do you have a talent for saying everything you are not supposed to at the worst possible moment?!" The witch thought as she saw Magnus' face change to dumbstruck at the mention of the Emperor, before darkening again, then finally, morphing into the most strained smile she had seen grace his features.

"You'll just have to chat after Emperor Belos is done with you, miss Selena."

Selena flinched when she saw how Magnus' lips spread, showing teeth in a, for him, unnatural grin "Oh of course, can't keep the Emperor waiting." He put his hand on her shoulder, squeezing to the point of pain "I'll just have to wait for my beloved little niece - who would never keep secrets from me - to finish her royal duties."

She squeaked, feeling like a child who got into trouble.

The rest of the way to the drawing room felt like a blur, if one had asked Selena how she got there or what Steve was carelessly chattering about, she couldn't have told you. Steve, ever the gentleman, opened the door for her, letting her walk inside, albeit on auto-pilot as her mind thought up scenario after scenario on what she should do now that Magnus knew.

Would he tell gran? Oh god, what if he tells her mom?! What if-

"Ah, there you are." She blinked as she awoke from her stupor, the Emperor's voice feeling like a thick miasma, domineering and velvety, washing over her. “Good morning, Selena.”

“E-emperor Belos, good morning!” She actually felt somewhat thankful; if anyone could drag her back from the edge of those anxiety-inducing doomer thoughts, it would be the man she spent the last two years focusing all her righteous indignation at. He was sitting in an armchair, a book in his hands he must have been reading just moments before “I made something new for you today, hope you’ll enjoy it! Oh, and-” she turned to Steve, who’s demeanour changed, the light, airy aura gone completely as he stood straight and obedient “Steve, may I have the bag back, please?”

“Of course, miss.”

Even his tone of voice changed, sounding somehow rougher, more devoid of emotion. Selena couldn’t help but remember how the cocky Golden Guard turned into a meek peon as soon as he was in the presence of the Emperor. Total obedience gained through fear. Either way, he held out the bag he graciously offered to carry for her before, and she took it with a soft thank you.

“Thank you for your service, scout. You’re dismissed.” the Emperor chimed in behind her as soon as the exchange was done. Something almost threatening in how he spoke, but only if you listened closely.

With a silent bow, Steve was gone.

And it was only her and the Emperor, once more.

The witch made her way across the room to the seating area and placed the bakery box on the coffee table neatly, then turned to the man seating just a bit away and offered the bag with the journal to him. “Here, Emperor Belos. Thank you again for letting me borrow your journal.”

She couldn’t see his eyes behind the mask - unlike the first day, they were just black voids, giving her nothing (except the uncanny feeling of being watched). So Selena had to make assumptions on his body language alone, that his gaze was downcast to the bag as he stilled, as if thinking. Reaching inside, The Emperor withdrew the book wrapped with paper and string, his fingers tapping against it once, twice, before the masked face rose up to her once more, and the uncanny feeling was back.

“I had assumed you’d have kept it longer.” he sounded inquisitive, as if trying to coax her to explain her actions without directly asking her to do so.

Selena switched her weight from one leg to the other “Well, I didn’t want to keep it for too long, I didn’t wish to be rude.” she nodded her head decisively “I did copy down almost all of it to a journal of my own, to use in future recipes! I hope you don’t mind.”

The Emperor wore a mask to hide his face, to hide his reactions, to keep everyone around him on the edge as they struggled to appease him, a power play from his side to make sure others squirm. Selena knew that because, well, that’s exactly the power trip the Midnight mask gave her. So there was a sense of pride swelling in her as she watched Emperor Belos and saw how the cogs turned in his head, knowing he was thinking carefully of how to respond. She was starting to read him better, the more time she spent with him. The way he stayed silent, she could imagine how he pursed his lips in thought.

“Why don't you take a seat." An order, not an offer.

So she did. Very tactically she went for the loveseat adjacent to where he sat, and to make sure he wouldn't suddenly decide to sit closer to her, she sat in the middle, leaving no room for anyone else. He wouldn't catch her off guard like last time, when they shared the loveseat and their knees were practically touching (how obscene!).

"I wouldn't have minded if you'd kept the journal longer." Emperor Belos tilted his head to the side, fingers tapping against the wrapped book in his lap. "You should have taken your time with it, I lent it to you for a reason."

Selena shook her head "It's fine, really! I took an extended weekend off to finish copying it, so it was no problem to return it early." She smiled at him "Afterall, such a precious journal is safer in the palace than in a baker's bedroom. I feel better knowing it's back under your care."

The Emperor let out a deep hum, in thought, turning his attention back to the journal on his lap. Graceful fingers moved across the paper and to the string keeping it together, untying it with care "I suppose that is alright, then." He finally agreed with her, and Selena felt at ease "I hope you enjoyed the little impromptu holiday instead of only fretting over the journal, at least." He took the book out of the packaging, turning it over as he inspected it "It must be nice to be able to have some time off. I'm afraid I forgot what that is like." He placed the journal back on his lap, now turning his full attention back to Selena.

"Why, just this weekend the palace was in disarray over a squadron of scouts being attacked."

Selena felt her eyes widen before she had time to school her expression back into place. She quickly cleared her throat, straightening out her back as well "O-oh, how horrid. Are the scouts okay?"

"Minor injuries, thankfully, but their spirits seem wounded by the encounter. Especially the youngest one." Belos let out a string of 'tsks' in (fake) concern "Poor thing. She was really shaken up."

The nagging feeling of guilt started creeping up Selena's back, a cold, uncomfortable shiver she thought she managed to suppress before. "That's…really sad to hear." She hesitated as she tried to find her words "Who attacked them, is it known?"

“A wild witch, calling herself Midnight.” As soon as the name left his lips, Selena felt a cold sweat run over her.

“And is this wild witch in the room with us right now?” she joked internally in an (unsuccessful) attempt to curb her growing panic. She felt kind of bad that the joke would go by unappreciated by anyone, it was hilarious “I’ve…I’ve heard of her.” Selena croaked out, nervously. She hoped he’d read her nervous demeanour as a fear from Midnight, not from being found out.

“I am the Eclipse that will snuff out the Emperor's light of corruption.” Belos quoted her, word for word, even adding some gusto to mimic her as if he'd heard her say those words in person. He was surprisingly on point in his intonation, she noted grumpily. “Is what she claims, as she assaults the scouts with reckless abandon. I look forward to the day I finally have her in my grasp .” The way he clenched his fist made Selena quiver, suddenly finding her own lap an interesting place to closely examine.

“I thought you said you didn’t enjoy being cruel?” she almost bit her tongue as the words came out faster than she could stop them.

Wow, the pattern on her skirt was so amusing to study right now. Selena would not dare look away from it now when it’s just getting interesting. Nope, no other reason, like her stupid mouth speaking out of turn. And the uncanny feeling of being watched was back, in full swing, burning into her skull and making her insides squirm.

Yet he said nothing.

And Selena couldn’t tell you if that made it better or worse.

She would have preferred a sharp scolding to hearing him get up from his seat, heavy steps nearing her until she could see his white and golden robes right next to her, brushing up against her skirt. She would have preferred a sharp scolding as oppose to the Emperor kneeling down next to her, eyes now fully glowing icy blue like the first day he called for her, and her having nowhere else to look except for him. She would have preferred a sharp scolding instead of his touch over her hands, covering them whole.

“And what would you suggest I do, hmm? What would you do, if it was your coven being hurt?” The way he spoke made her feel like a stupid, insolent child. “Should I just do nothing ?” he tilted his head, and Selena bit the inside of her cheek to remain silent this time “Should I just let her continue to run amok, disturbing the witches of the Isles?” she felt his fingers tighten around her hands, worryingly so “Should I just let her continue harming the scouts?”

“N-no, of course not!”

His other hand reached out to her face and over her cheek, the metal cold, the talons threatening “Of course not.” Belos repeated after her, pleased with that answer “I do not enjoy being cruel. But I will protect what is mine. No matter the price. No matter if others consider me cruel for the ways I chose to do it.”

This was…this was probably the closest they’d ever been, not counting the first time where he dragged her through the throne room up to where he sat. This wasn’t quite as close, but it was more intimate, and it lasted for far more than those couple of awkward seconds she was suspended in the air. In fact, thanks to the blue glow from his eyes, she could see past the usually pitch black holes on his mask and see the smallest hint of his face. The downturned eyes and the purple-tinted,tired skin under them, the eyebrows in a determined frown. Just hints, but more, much more, than most on the isles could have dreamed of seeing. And while there were signs of ageing, she could see the crows feet at the corners of his eyes…

…but from what little she could see, he didn’t look nearly as old as her grandparents. Waine and Isabella were in their 90s, and as spry as they were for their age, the years still show. Belos had to have been around their age, it didn’t make sense.

It wasn’t unheard of, witches with long lives, some living for hundreds of years. It took a lot of magic, but it was possible. But even then, long lasting youth , slowed down ageing, that was…rare. Incredibly rare, the magic needed for that strong and usually not without sacrifice.

Then again, Emperor Belos was the most powerful witch of the Boiling Isles.

Oh, oh right . Selena remembered where she was before she let her thoughts stray (though it really was no more than a couple of seconds she was lost in her mind, even if it felt longer). She already overstepped massively with her earlier comment, but she couldn’t help herself, the spite and anger seeped out for a moment there, it’s like he goaded her on purpose. So it was best she rectified this misstep of hers - carefully she managed to wedge one hand from under his grasp without agitating him further, though she did hesitate as she lowered it back down over his own.

The man seemed to thrive on using physical contact. Constantly touching, constantly hovering. So doing the same, mirroring him, that should please him, right? And he did react, she saw it, just a hint of his eyes widening and the softest sound of a sharp inhale, muffled by the mask, the moment her hand touched his.

Keep him calm, keep him happy.

“I apologise, Emperor Belos. I spoke out of turn.” Selena made sure her voice was saccharine and pleading - subservient - as she spoke “And foolishly so, too. I am lucky I do not have to find out what I’d do in your position. I talk of virtue, but I don't know what I'd do when the chips are down. Please, find it in your heart to forgive me.”

Hook, line and sinker. The way his breath hitched, she had him believing her, no problem . He hesitated, actually hesitated, to respond, as she felt his fingers flex under hers, eyes flying over her face as the cogs in his head turned and turned.

She had him right where she-

“There we go, that’s a good girl .” he responded, perfectly even in his voice and with zero uncertainty she saw in him just a moment prior “Of course you’re forgiven, afterall-” the hand on her face gave her a gentle pat on the cheek “-you repented, haven’t you?” Belos removed his hands from her as he stood up, releasing her from what felt like a cage all around her the second he touched her. Selena felt like she could finally breathe “Then again, perhaps it is through fault of mine, I shouldn’t have started such a morose topic in such sweet company in the first place. Afterall, gentle doves rarely like to dwell on the business of ravenous wolves.” Belos hummed in thought as he moved away, back to sit on the armchair where she found him this morning. “Such a dreadful thing to discuss, not something to bring up in pleasant company.”

Despite him being gone, the ghost of his touch still lingered on her. The pressure on her hand, the smooth metal under her fingers, the heat against her cheek. It didn’t leave with him, it felt like it imprinted, still so vivid of a sensation.

And neither did his words leave, fully imprinted in her memory.

“Good girl.”

It felt like a fire set ablaze in her chest, hurting her, choking her on smoke, making her lightheaded. Thick, foul smoke that filled her lungs and made her unable to breathe. Every time she tried it felt like something was squeezing, clawing, aching , so all she could do was take shallow breaths, struggling to keep them under control and not to start gasping for air.

A blaze which burned cold blue.

She needed out. She had to get out. She had to leave .

Smoothing out any wrinkle on her skirt and trying to look as casual as possible, Selena tried not to show how badly her legs were shaking as she stood up, smiling at the Emperor the way she always did. “I do enjoy our conversations, Emperor, be they pleasant or not, however someone still needs to run the bakery, I’m afraid.”

“Oh, leaving so soon?”

She hated his voice, hated it, hated it -

“Unfortunately.” Selena grit her teeth so hard her jaw started to hurt. The strained smile, she hoped, was enough to hide that. She saw him reach under his cloak and quickly stopped him “Oh, no need for that! You loaned me your journal, so today’s order is on me!”

Belos paused “That’s very kind of you.”

“Well, kindness begets kindness, Emperor.” She slowly made her way around the coffee table, very aware of how her knees shook “I’m simply returning the goodwill you have shown me.” she stopped next to his armchair, ready to say goodbye, hoping to do so before she collapsed from the ache in her chest.

The Emperor took the hint, reaching and taking her hand, giving it a light squeeze “I will see you soon, then, Selena. I’ll send the scout for you in a day or two.”

Selena swallowed as he held her hand so delicately “Of course, Emperor.”

How she hasn’t stumbled over her own two feet, Selena didn’t know. As soon as she left the drawing room, she was power-walking out of there, holding onto the walls to keep herself upright. She hoped she was going in the right direction, because her eyes refused to focus on anything in front of her.

“Good girl.”

The witch growled and stopped in her tracks, leaning against the wall that she already used for support as the memory made her chest ache again.

“Stop it.” she hissed and shook her head, trying to chase his voice away - To no avail.

What did he do?! What did he do to her?! Did he cast some spell? A curse? A hex?! Was there something she triggered when she entered the room, something in the air, in his touch? She already knew he didn’t cast using spell circles, he could have done something to her without her being none the wiser. Selena gasped for air, the ache unbearable as his voice replayed in her head over and over again. Selena felt her eyes burn, she wanted to cry. She wanted to scream, to curse him to the ends of the realm, to yell as loudly as she could. But not here, not in these halls, where the wall had ears. She needed to get herself together get herself home-

“Done with your royal duties, Lena?”

Fuck . She forgot about that specific part of things that were going oh so wrong today.

The witch swallowed hard, smiling up nervously at the man who was walking up to her “Uncle Magnus, always a pleasure!”

The man in question let out an annoyed “tsk”, rolling his eyes at her “Oh, I’m sure.” he raised his hand and gestured to someone behind him “Darius, if you’d please.” Selena raised an eyebrow and looked beyond her uncle, only now spotting Darius who was following closely behind.

What did he mean by-

Her train of thoughts was cut off when she saw Darius make a spell circle, abomination clay circling around him and spreading out, surrounding him, her and Magnus. Her eyes widened as the clay grew, moving with incredible speed and precision, encasing all three of them in darkness in seconds.

“Darius, wait-!” she tried to yell, only for the clay to silence her, dizziness overtaking as she felt weightless in the goop. She hated teleporting by abominations, it always left her feeling clammy and disoriented. As fast as it came, the darkness left just as quickly, the weight of the clay lifted off of her and left her stumbling like a newborn foal. She probably would have fallen over, too, but the steady hand on her shoulder managed to keep her upright.

“Easy now.” she heard Darius behind her.

Selena blinked rapidly in an attempt to adjust to the light, the nausea slowly leaving her body the longer she stood firmly on the ground with her own two feet. Where exactly were-

Oh.

Oh no.

She knew exactly where they were.

They stood in the all too familiar kitchen of the family summer cottage, which now housed her siblings and mother after she had retired and left the bakery to her. Mom wanted to relax and tend to a garden, Sitrie wanted to stay close to take care of her and Stella wanted to raise her kids close to their grandma. So the three (plus Stella’s husband and kids) all moved to what was once a vacation home.

And if this is where they were, where Magnus told Darius to teleport them too, then that meant…

“Selena, honey.” The familiar cadence of her mother made her blood run cold, the realisation that Magnus had actually tattled on her to her mom settling into her bones. Selena turned to the little dining table and found her mother sitting at it, a cup of tea in her hands. The witch gulped and wondered if she could somehow manage to run back to the Palace and hide out in the drawing room for the foreseeable future.

“Please take a seat.”

The Emperor’s company suddenly felt much more inviting than dealing with her angry mother.

I wanna hear your adrian lore you've come up with

Oh of course, I'm always happy to have an excuse to share haha!

Mind you, I have a LOT of thoughts on Adrian, but here's some of the key lore points:

Adrian’s Bile Sac: Weak as a child, but by teen years regarded as a powerful witch, not least because he worked at his studies as well. Ultimately, his sac is damaged by Belos, who in turn gives him the amplifier as a sick psychological tactic (Adrian thus now owes his power to Belos etc). The amplifier thus brings him back to his natural powers, but he is at a loss without it. With Gus stealing it, Adrian is considerably weakened, both magically but also emotionally. The draining spell wreaks utter havoc on his cracked bile sac, splitting it open. In a potential post-canon AU I’m working on he loses his ability to perform magic

Relationships: I have a HUGE headcanon that Terra and Adrian are allies/friends. Originally, it starts out for opportunistic gain on both sides (powerful patronage/ promising protege) but ultimately because they stick together, they do somewhat care for each other.

Hunter: Adrian actually didn’t mind the little boy in the palace, and rather came to feel for him, creating for the lonely, magicless boy illusionary playmates. Ultimately, Belos’ warping of their relationship shatters it, with Hunter coming to dislike him and Adrian shutting him out.

Originally, Darius was also considered a friend when they both arrived at the palace, but there’s a tangled history with that. I have a pre-canon story (unpublished) that connects with this, in which one of Adrian’s first missions goes quite terribly and forever haunts him. Adrian was also friends with the Previous Golden Guard (who I named Michael), and was present at his death (there’s an unpublished story for this too lmao)

With Belos, Adrian never really took to the Emperor, but obviously obeyed and was thrilled to work for him for the prestige it brings. As time wears on, he becomes more dependent on Belos’ power (literally and figuratively), and therefore continues to side with him, not least because he does truly believe he is doing something good (encouraging the Coven System) and that he will finally receive a reward.

Other bits: Adrian was originally schooled at St. Epiderm and did just fine there, but eventually had to transfer to Glandus. From his experiences there, he developed a strong dislike to kids his age, with this transferring to teenagers in general. At the same time, while Adrian has all the charm in the world, this was a painstaking act constructed by him to hide his actual lack of true social connection. Really, inside the palace walls, he has no one but Terra, and the minions he orders about.

Adrian’s second track was Oracle, and he was quite good at it, hence why he’s so good at memory and mind magic as an illusionist.

A distant Vernworth ancestor was petrified for crimes once, and to ever receive such a fate haunts Adrian as well. He generally does not like the practice because of that (does this mean more lore regarding Eda's near petrification? Yes lmao)

Also Adrian totally has some shady shit that he did and still has ties too, but that’s to be expanded upon later.

Piroth and Post-Cannon: Piroth is my lovely Scout OC who becomes one of Adrian’s closest friends near the end of canon, and continues into my Post-Canon ideas. Post-Canon I haven’t figured out as much yet, though it may feature a redemption arc

So, yes, quite a lot (and there's still more to be made haha), but that's some of the key aspects I like so far :)

Some people are so pessimistic saying Lou won't be able to forgive Lestat which makes me wonder... how does it go in the books? How does he forgive him?

VERY MINOR BOOK SPOILERS BUT UNDER CUT FOR ANYONE WHO DOESN'T WANT ANY AT ALL

An important thing to keep in mind is that their relationship is deeply complex within the books. The books cover nearly 200 years, give or take, of their relationship.

And another thing to consider is that it is different in the show. Book Louis doesn't need to forgive Book Lestat for the extreme physical violence because it just doesn't happen. Show Louis would have to be much more forgiving than Book Louis so it's hard to figure out how Louis forgives him in the show by basing it on the books. (A note here, I'm struggling to want Show Louis to forgive, and if he ever does, it should take literal decades).

But in the books, their relationship goes through several ups and downs. The first big down is the breakdown of the family relationship. And something to keep in mind is that by the time the breakdown is happening in the show, they've been together 20 years total. In the books, they've been together for 70 years by the time it comes crashing down, with Claudia with them for 65 of those years.

It takes roughly 120 years before they truly interact with each other again properly after that. Yes, there are moments where they see each other but the true proper reunion doesn't occur until 1985 in the books, and the family breakdown was in the mid 1860s. Between those two times, Louis meets and starts living with Armand (not in the show yet), but then begins to yearn for Lestat, leaves Armand, and tries to find him. When he can't, he writes Interview with the Vampire as a way to draw Lestat out; he purposefully exaggerated some events in order to force Lestat to emerge from his self imposed hiding and seek him out. The plan works and Lestat writes The Vampire Lestat and starts a rock band cause of course he does 🤣 Louis finds the now very obvious Lestat and renews their relationship. The forgiveness there comes from there being very little to have to forgive (in the books, the breakdown is due to Claudia's extreme frustration of being a 65 year old woman in a 5 year olds body and her violent reaction to that, rather than any direct action of Lestat). In the books, Claudia is responsible for the breakdown of the family, not Lestat, so Louis doesn't have to forgive Lestat for that. In the show, it's absolutely on Lestat, so it's difficult to gauge how Louis will forgive him based on the books.

Back to the books though...The Queen of the Damned happens and it messes with Lestats head (there's a lot to unpack with that book, it's easier read than explained and no, the movie of the same name bares zero resemblance to the book) and he eventually tries to fly into the sun but realises he's too powerful to be be killed. So Lestat has a bit of an existential crisis. By this point he's searching for answers and leaves Louis to find them. Body Thief happens, Louis refuses to help Lestat cause he thinks he's been an idiot, also Louis wails on Lestat's dog a bit so Lestat burns Louis' house down (Louis is not inside at the time), and at the end of the book Louis is like "you burned my house down, where do I live now?" And decides to live with Lestat.

The rest of the series happens and it's really more stuff like that; Lestat will get restless and need more answers and seek them out, or Louis will need a break from Lestat. Louis lives with Armand every time Lestat leaves, but every time Lestat reappears, he leaves Armand for him.

Ultimately it's a case of they love each other more than anything in the world. And they're vampires. They're not bound by mortal time. They will spend decades together and then need to take a break from each other before ultimately reuniting and spending more decades together. Both have other lovers in between, but that bothers neither of them because they know that their hearts belong to each other, and they always end up going home to each other.

So how does Louis forgive Lestat in the books? There's infinitely less to forgive, and there's nearly two centuries of love and longing between them. And they share a loss that no one else understands, but if you haven't read the books I'll say no more cause spoilers. The shift in timelines has made the time thing difficult in the show cause there's less years to work with. And the end of episode 5 makes a big change to their relationship from what we see in the books.

TLDR; Their relationship in the show is very different from the one in the books cause of the creative choices made with the show but it ultimately comes down to loving each other and being able to take literal centuries to cool off after arguments. Not sure how to apply it to the show though. Show Louis is going to have be infinitely more forgiving than Book Louis ever had to be if they're going to have their living-in-a-castle-dancing-at-a-ball-happy-ending (actual ending of the final book, truly).

Symmetry in the Owl House

Dana Terrace loves her narrative symmetry. We've seen it play out large scale and small scale, short-term and long term.

Consider the three times we've heard the line, "Now eat this, sucka!" In the cold open of 1.1, A Lying Witch and a Warden, during Luz book report. Again at the end of that episode, as she uses Owlbert on his staff as a baseball bat to hurl fireworks into Warden Wrath's mouth. And now again in the cold open of 2.1, Separate Tides.

And that cold open as a whole also has callbacks to other early season 1 elements. The intimidating voice and shadow of Garlog (and the ultimate reveal) reflect the original entrance of King. The "King as Dog" gag recalls Eda eating Adegast at the end of 1.2, Witches Before Wizards.

You get the idea. Callbacks and Parallels have always been a thing in the Owl House. But certain things about the new season started gnawing away at my brain yesterday after watching 2.1, Escaping Expulsion, and I wanted to get them down.

The A-plot, B-plot structure of 2.1, Escaping Expulsion, is entirely parallel; something we don't usually see. Luz and Lilith both feel guilty about the impacts of their actions on the people they care about (in this episode, specifically Eda); they both throw themselves recklessly into a quest hoping to atone and are quickly taught a lesson about the value of relying on and helping each other.

Lilith, in her B-plot, learns this lesson; we get the delightful friendship of Lilith and Hooty out of it, and that seems to be something that will be running strong throughout the rest of the series. Luz, maybe hasn't gotten it yet. She, even before this, had a tendency to through herself headlong into helping and didn't always get or rely on help, even when it was available; but she did do it sometimes, and I want to look at why.

That'll be a bit later though, since we need to look at 2.1, Escaping Expulsion, first. The A-plot, B-plot this time isn't as obviously parallel, but its still there; let's hope that the B-plot foreshadows somethings for the A-plot parallels.

In the A-plot, Luz and Co. fight against expulsion; after the initial group attempts to get back into the school, once Willow and Gus are dragged home, Luz goes it solo. Some might say she *tried* to get help, but I'm not so sure. She knew Willow and Gus, in addition to being grounded, wouldn't help her negotiate with Odalia and Alador (Willow very specifically said so); and yes, she went to Amity for help, help getting a meeting with Odalia. Luz acknowledges that Amity is scared of her mom; given what she'd seen up to this point, she likely knew that Amity wouldn't be able to stand up to her mom in the conversation. She likely just wanted the moral support of Amity coming with her, even just to the door of the manor.

So Luz makes the deal on her own. She fights alone. When Amity realizes whats happened, she immediately runs off to find Gus and Willow (in that order, we'll get to that). The three of them then rush to the warehouse… and bicker about how to get in. They have very different personalities and approaches to problem sovling. Amity's and Willow's are effectively opposites; Amity is direct and quick, Willow's is discrete and slow. I'm fairly sure that Gus chiming in with his ostentatious but ultimately misdirection-based plan is what stopped the two from getting into a fiercer argument; instead, we simply got the three trying to talk over each other.

The twins show up and give them another way in. Inside, Amity effectively goes with her plan, leaving Willow and Gus to get caught by the guards. Amity gets her big damn hero moment, stands up to her parents, gets Luz blushing (I'll come back to this in another post), and the Abomoton 2.0 shuts down.

Over in the B-plot, we get to see Eda and Lilith regress to their teenage years and bicker like schoolgirls. Like with Amity and Willow, this comes down to their opposite approaches to a problem; Lilith likes order and structure, Eda prefers freedom and creativity. Both are valid, in fact Eda's in closer to modern teaching practice; but you need some foundation (best learned by Lilith's method) to understand what kind of innovations its possible/safe to try. In the end, the sisters work out their differences: Eda is willing to take a bit of time and learn the basic rules, and Lilith is ready to take her basics and begin innovating.

The Clawthorne sisters still approach problems differently, I'm sure we'll see that in the future; but they understand the others point of view, and are willing to compromise and work together now a bit more than before. Amity, Willow, and Gus… not so much. They haven't learned that lesson yet; Ed and Em cut them off from the argument, and once inside, Amity bulled ahead on her own. It worked (and it was glorious) but the issue is STILL THERE.

Really, that's the whole issue of the season, I think. Learning when (and likely when not) to set aside differences, compromise, and work together. Belos talks about the "Day of Unity", but I'm getting the vibe that his idea of "Unity" is total subjugation under a single command, his; the best way to combat that is ACTUAL unity: teamwork and friendship and love.

And Luz. Luz needs to shake off her funk. She's getting there, but she's much more a lone problem solver than she was in Season 1.

LILITH

Ok so because I'm lilith’s bitch we are gonna start with her because her name is so cool and I love her and we should be besties Lilith hmu. Anyways as most people know Lilith is a pre existing mythological character which makes this very much good because that means it’s all outlined. Most people know her as a demonic figure, which I very much dig but similar to our lovely queen of curses out here, that's not all she is. There isn’t going to be a chronological explanation of similarities and conclusions, cope. The basic gist is that Lilith was this chick with fiery red hair (this is important iykyk) who refused to be beneath or below adam, more specifically to subjugate to him, funny because of the tapestry with belos what says subjugation on it, probably a coincidence but I do not believe in coincidence right now. Anyways basically she runs off and becomes this chick who like snatches children and will make them sick if they don’t have an amulet with the names Senoy, Sansenoy, or Semangelof on them, thats a different story but what I find interesting is this one passage,

“(12) Her nobles shall be no more, nor shall kings be proclaimed there; all her princes are gone. (13) Her castles shall be overgrown with thorns, her fortresses with thistles and briers. She shall become an abode for jackals and a haunt for ostriches. (14) Wildcats shall meet with desert beasts, satyrs shall call to one another; There shall the Lilith repose, and find for herself a place to rest. (15) There the hoot owl shall nest and lay eggs, hatch them out and gather them in her shadow; There shall the kites assemble, none shall be missing its mate. (16) Look in the book of the LORD and read: No one of these shall be lacking, For the mouth of the LORD has ordered it, and His spirit shall gather them there. (17) It is He who casts the lot for them, and with His hands He marks off their shares of her; They shall possess her forever, and dwell there from generation to generation.”

And there are separate part of this that I find relevant, especially the description of the location, i’m not all that familiar with symbolism of animals in religious texts, so i’m gonna take it at face value and say that this is more or less a description that could be given to the physical owl house itself, sort of a place for people who don’t fit in, its a little messy and I guess one could say overgrown, but it’s a place for anyone, a place to rest now hopefully for Lilith away from the coven, there shall the Lilith repose. On top of that we see the “the hoot owl…” and you’re probably thinking what that so crazy wacko because like why are they referring to Lilith as the hoot owl isn't Eda the owl lady, yes she is. That’s why the actual meanings of lilith’s name that come from her mythological depiction as a demon lady are so important. We have night monster, night owl, night spectre, vampires, night hag, night creature, nightjar (which is another kind of bird), and night bird, all of these seem to fit lilith’s dark aesthetic very nicely which is very good for her, but there are two other ones, hot owl and screech owl, which draw her closer to Edaand away from the coven and her depiction in the mid-later episodes of the show as a monster for cursing eda, but also the name night monster could come into play if while sharing the curse Lilith acquired some of its traits, similar to Ed aas the owl beast. Ultimately, we have this little red head girl who eventually fights back against the men who are attempting to get her to be under them, for the character that is belos, for the other Lilith that is adam, god, and his angels, and now hopefully both of them will find solace and repose among the owls in a place they never thought they’d belong. All this talk of owls and god brings us into the other clawthorne baddie:

Lilith did find her repose! I love her staying in the owl house, get it queen oh yuh.

EDA

For this I'm going to use her full name edalyn, because you know like that’s just how it be it is her name. There isn’t a wiki page for her name like there is for Lilith which makes this a little bit harder but the general consensus seems to be that it means something along the lines of “gift of god”, which I find very interesting. If you are going to name a child gift of god i’m assuming that you are referring to the child themselves, but I don’t think that really applies to eda. I’m not religious, but its my impression that someone who lies, cheats, pranks, and steals their way to the top and isn’t exactly the most responsible witch on the isles and might not be the best gift god could give. I do really love Eda though, her character flaws are still a part of her character, but I think this refers to her powers. Eda considers herself to be the boiling isles gift to magic, which I mean like, have you seen the woman. In agony of a witch we see her at what probably 30% of her power with how much the curse was already tolling on her and how much magic she was probably using to fight it off, and like goddamn. She was almost beating lilith, definitely beating the shit out of her, but she was almost defeating Lilith who was at her full power, and that is just a fraction of what she used to be able to do. Her powers were a gift of god, and I think that the loss of them will greatly affect her. She’s already admitted that she doesn’t know how to do much without her magic, and I think going straight from the second most powerful witch on this isles to having no power at all is going to be incredibly taxing on her, physically and mentally.

Luckily for her the name edalyn also means patience, another thing about her name is that it not only means gift of god, but also similar things like gifted by the gods or even goddess, and this draws a connection to Lilith who is named after a demonic figure, casted out for having defied god, they are quite literally polar opposites on the name spectrum, and we see that a lot in the show, they are completely different people, I mean have you looked at them they don’t even look related, but the funnier thing is that their personalities do the same thing. You’d expect Edain her youth to be a gift from the devil, just ask principal bump, and Lilith seemed to be a goody two shoes who worked her ass off, their names could be switched based off their characters alone.

A random baby name site I found said that :

“Persons with the name edalyn are usually highly flexible and well equipped to making and accepting change throughout their life. They always seek excitement and are sometimes a bit of a risk taker. They are imaginative, and often, through their unconventional way of thinking, are naturally able to solve complex problems with ease. They are quick thinkers and observers who are clever, analytical and versatile”

Which I mean like very much applies to eda, she takes change like a champ, either genuinely or by pretending she’s ok with everything, and is always seeking excitement. Like literally all of the time. Always. I think she takes felonies as a compliment, and one of the biggest changes in her life that she genuinely was able to adapt to and appreciate was

OH MY GOD HER LEARNING THE NEW GLYPHS WAS SO CUUUUTTTEEE, I love her being able to adapt, she really is doing well. As the beginning of separate tides shows, she’s working around it, and is doing a damn good job, living up to her name.

LUZ

Ok I think at this point everyone knows that at this point the name Luz means light, and if you didn't, oopsies now you do. The character Luz was named and designed after a real life person the miss dana terrace knew at the time she was starting to really think about the show, Luz ’s personalty comes more from dana herself and we love that, but the character has really started to grow into her name. This is made most obvious when the first spell Luz learns is the light glyph, not only coming into her own as a witch, but also starting to live up to her name, which along with light also has to do with “Our Lady of Light”, which is the virgin mary, fitting her right in with the other biblical names we got going on here. I really want to stress that I know next to zero about religion, and all of the connections I am making come from wikipedia, so bare with me here. But most of the time mary seems to be this pure, saint like figure, which I think is what a lot of people see Luz as, especially on the isles. I’m going to flat out say that this is in no way meant to pass off Luz as simple minded, pure, or oblivious, because we have seen what that girl is willing to do, she faced death and poked him in the with an ice cicle. In terms of life on the isles, however, she is more or less pure and sheltered, she’s completely new to the world she’s in, but she does quickly adapt, and shows more of her strong side, and remains a good person throughout all of it, taking losses as they come, and not letting them remain losses at the same time.

Back to the whole light thing, we already touched on the whole literal bit of her and the light spell, but can you think of a better way to describe Luz ? She literally brings light everywhere she goes, even Eda admits that she’s changed things for the better, for everyone around her too. Willow got a new friend, probably the first friend she’s had in a long time, and even got to begin repairing her relationship with amity, and got placed in the plant track so she could do the things she loves, all because of Luz . Edagot to grow as a person and a mentor, and finally got someone willing to accept all her eda-ness, unconditionally, someone to really care about that really cares about her back, all because of Luz . Amity got a friend who cares about her, not just her family name and money, someone who supports her and will do anything for her because she is her friend, and a bit of self discovery along the way for amity, all because of Luz . Not a single person on the isles who has had more than 2 minutes of interaction with Luz hasn’t had their lives improved, even belos got his portal, and the thing is that even characters who people might not even consider changed have been, characters such as

Luz my beloved, she seems a little bit less of a light this season, and i do mean little. That’s totally fine though, it’s expected, i didn’t want her to just be this bright shining star after the events of the last two episodes of season 1, and appreciate her going and starting to take the fantasy of the isles with more than just a grain of salt. Obviously like in escaping expulsion, she’s still trying her best to make everything better and make friends with everyone, but there’s something a little different about it and i’m here for it tbh.

KING

The name king itself is obvious, he is royalty, the king of demoNS HIMSELF ASMODEUS hahahaha pulled a sneaky on you now accept my ideas as your own. I am on a mythological name kick, deal with it. The most important thing here is in the bible, asmodeus poses himself as a false god, which I know is something we have all considered with king, that he might be a full on liar, not be a king of anything and is just your ordinary street demon, it’s even come up in the show with him calling himself the king of artists and Luz asking him if he was just making it up at this point. It’s a good theory, I can see it, and this could be used as proof. There is also another legend that paints him as a good natured dude, who eventually banishes the king by literally throwing him, and then he loses his powers and is banished, but this is also the same legend where he marries Lilith and that is not something I am down for. There is another text in which he tells the king (the same one he threw in the other one) that his kingdom will one day be divided and the king does not believe him, and this is the same text where he admits to hating water and birds because they remind him of god. Lets think class, who has the god name and is related to birds here? King’s name by itself holds true to his character, who (regardless of if it is truthful or not) holds himself as if he is a king, and he isn't the only one with a name like that, there is also

WILLOW

Ok I know we all thought it, willow, the plant girl, how fiendishly clever. This also happens to be the only descriptor for her name I could find, which is totally fine because I think it’s a very cute name and willow is also very cute. This means we get to go into the symbolism of the willow tree wwwooooOOOOO aren’t you so very excited I know I am. Its kind of interesting, willow trees seem to match the character, understanding, warm, a safe space really, but most of all the ability to let go of pain and suffering, sometimes outright ignore it, and move on. Willow does always say out of sight out of mind does she not? She is willing to ignore, even excuse people bullying her, be it bosha or even amity, and the moment she got the chance her inner willow decided to try and literally burn the painful memories she had, willing to cause damage just to forget. Willow as a character is very willing to move on like nothing happened most of the time, key word most because another thing about willows is the ability to grow from the pain. Before understanding willow, we never really saw willow stand up for herself until she really had to, but hy the end of the episode she is willing to tell amity that she isn’t willing to fully forgive her, but she’s willing to grow and try. Heck, we see this over the entire first season, we see this little girl who can barely pull it together long enough to stand up for herself grow into this amazing character willing to publicly oppose the emperor and break into his castle for her friend, she tried to full out attack Lilith when 19 episodes earlier she wasn’t able to stand up to amity for bullying her. And I am in no way calling willow weak, she never was, she just needed to find the ability to show everyone that she’s strong, god I love willow so much, you wanna know who else loves willow?

GUS

Gus, my main man, love you but for this we are gonna have to use the full on augustus sorry babes. The name augustus means majestic, or venerable, which while I must say that the illusion of kiki doing the worm was probably one of the most majestic things I have ever seen, I’m going to focus on venerable a bit more here. Venerable is a big word, it means “accorded a great deal of respect, especially because of age, wisdom, or character.”, which for gus the age part might play a smaller part here, but he is good as what he does, Luz and willow both respect him, Eda Respects him, he’s this little dude who is younger than everyone and has to rely on his ability to succeed, not only with his power but with his personality. Gus seems to be confident in himself, communicating with everyone regardless of who they are or what power they hold, similarly to willow he was willing to do anything to help Luz , leading into the second description of venerable, “heroic in nature”. Now, you might be wondering, bestie where ever did you get that description, it totally wasn’t from a religious page okyesitwas but that's fine because being pronounced venerable guarantees a spot in heaven so get it bestie. Overall, the general meaning for augustus is that they are strong, respectable, and powerful, which takes us right into the

Gus, shawty, ily but please stop the obsession with death babes ur starting to scare me. I hope with the upcoming Gus content in TTLGR we will see more of him growing into his powers and such.

ASSORTED BLIGHTS

The blight first names bring me joy so I am putting amity last because I think its really funny, starting off with alador, the name alador evokes diplomacy, correctness, and confidence. We know zilch about alador, but if the vibes of the blight family have anything to say it’s definitely something along those lines. The name odalia means wealth, which I mean like have you seeeen blight manor? Also back at it again with the fact that it’s a variant of the name odilia, like the saint olilia which I don't have ties for you right now because again, we know nothing about her. Edric also means wealth, fortune, riches, powerful, you get the vibes, same thing with emira which means commander, or prince, princess, leader, or star. So you know like we have all these super powerful names happening, and then, oh boy and then we get to little miss perfect herself, amity blight. It means friendship, or harmony. If I was her I would be so mad at my parents like yall have these mad powerful names and I got stuck with friendship? Hand me the emancipation papers. You know what they say, friendship is the real magic (even if no longer taught in schools due to budget constraints). I hope that this leads more into season 2 with amity working on her friendships and ultimately her relationships in general, which we got a bit of already with her working on repairing her relationship with willow, and making the moves to cut off old toxic friendships and moving into more genuine ones with willow, Luz , and gus. I guess you could say that the only thing ALL the blights have in common with each other is their

They are rich assholes, alador is a little wacko, odalia is hot asf dana seriously what the hell man that was out of pocket. The only thing about alador that lives up to his name is his money, odalia seems more obsessed with image and money, and i too am obsessed with her image literally boy what the hell boy.

LAST NAME

BLIGHT

The word blight by itself means a plant disease which boy oh boy can you believe how nicely that fits into amity bullying willow because I sure can. Outside of just the plant bit it overall just means like something that damages another thing, and this works beautifully for each member of the family. The parents are damaging their children, the twins just causing general damage, and amity and her goddamn relationships, but fortunately that whole plant thing brings us into the next couple of last names

CLAWTHORNE

The last name clawthorne means “cold or exposed thorn tree” which had me kind of like what the heck so I went off and had some fun and got you some presents that I think are funny, so there was this guy right, his name was joseph clawthorne, and he created the term whiffenpoof, which is the name for a wildly fictitious animal, things like a jackalope, or even a griffin with spider breath, though I guess that would be the work of a

NOCEDA

Back again with the trees good lord, it means field of nut trees, so again I went into prominent people an found this guy named jorge noceda sanchez, he was a painter and some of his works are kinda baller actually it seems like something that would fit in on the isles, but also not all of the names have a deeper meanings, names like

PORTER

Ok I am like pretty sure this was just meant to be a play on the fact that gus’ dad’s name is perry and is a reporter, get it, perry porter, perry porter, reporter, but nonetheless I did some digging because why the heck not, it means doorkeeper, or gate keeper, someone who guards something like an important building, which honestly I think this would be a good last name for hooty if he ever gets one, but again not all of these are important names at the moment, or maybe they won't ever be at all, names like

PARK

First and foremost, she is a little night gremlin who hates children and I think that really fits her, but she is also a little house demon, who is very difficult to get to leave, have we seen her outside the castle? Will she be a spy along with the mask next season? She also has a name that means nightmare or night demon, similar to a certain other night creature we might have heard of a while ago. She tried to strangle children and I love that for her,and she is described as a little old ugly messy haired lady and I feel like her current character has the personality of one so i’ll take it, but what really gets me is her villain origin story, which is that she "grows up with a magician in the mountains. From dawn to sunset the magician’s cat regales Kikimora with fantastic tales of ancient times and faraway places, as Kikimora rocks in a cradle made of crystal. It takes her seven years to reach maturity, by which time her head is no larger than a thimble and her body no wider than a strand of straw. Kikimora spins flax from dusk and to dawn, with evil intentions for the world.”

Ok, the queen herself, haven’t met her yet but like who knows. Not really a whole lot here (my ears are ringing oops one sec ok i’m back hi) anyways um uh rings? Her name right off the bat has a lot to do with rings, and really that only applies to eda, because her ring was a big thing for her, she gave it to lilith, we all watched wing it like witches you know what’s up, but i mean like was that gwen’s ring? I really wanted the hand on eda’s wall to be gwen’s, very upset to see she has all of her body parts so far. I am also not sure if that’s how it’s spelled, but it means the same thing anyways. Also meaning fair or blessed, any woman who created both eda and lilith is probably mad powerful and we love to see it, also she’s a beastkeeper and i like i want to talk about that with eda’s curse but now is not the time for shenanigans (that’s a lie every time is the time for shenanigans i’m just exhausted)

RAYNE

Bitch, sorry, ok listen like um sidebar I AM SO EXCITED FOR THIS CHARACTER AND YOU ALL NEED TO KNOW IT but also at this point i’m not really sure about this character, is this their name, is that even how it’s spelled, girl idfk but like whooptydooo I do what I want so cope. Right now, we are assuming that they are the new bard coven head character, and like let me tell you the way that I am fully pissing my pants atm like bestie, anyways, if spelled rayne, then it means counsel or song, and this is why, do you see why this is why we spell it like this? It’s also scandanavian which means like nothing but it’s cool. This spelling fits because like counsel, head of the bard coven, you get it it’s fine, and then song, also head of the bard coven, you know. It fits so well, especially since this is supposed to be a friend from eda’s past, and like is supposed to try and recruit eda for a rebellion against the emperor in the episode eda’s requiem, i cannot convey to you how goddamn excited I am like there are not enough words in this realm or any others to tell you how prepared i am for this character to rock my world.

My Obsession With Character Names Pays Off Right Here Right Now

I have literally never posted here but I decided that since I spent today writing about the the name of the characters in The Owl House instead of prepping for finals, someone should see it. Included are Lilith, Eda, Luz, King, Gus, Willow, Amity, Alador, Odalia, Emira, Edric, Belos, Adegast, Kikimora, last names Blight, Noceda, Clawthorne, Park, Porter, and Bump, and briefly Hooty, Owlbert, Hieronymus, and Boscha.

FIRST NAME

LILITH

And there are separate part of this that I find relevant, especially the description of the location, i’m not all that familiar with symbolism of animals in religious texts, so i’m gonna take it at face value and say that this is more or less a description that could be given to the physical owl house itself, sort of a place for people who don’t fit in, its a little messy and I guess one could say overgrown, but it’s a place for anyone, a place to rest now hopefully for Lilith away from the coven, there shall the Lilith repose. On top of that we see the “the hoot owl…” and you’re probably thinking what that so crazy wacko because like why are they referring to Lilith as the hoot owl isn't Eda the owl lady, yes she is. That’s why the actual meanings of lilith’s name that come from her mythological depiction as a demon lady are so important. We have night monster, night owl, night spectre, vampires, night hag, night creature, nightjar (which is another kind of bird), and night bird, all of these seem to fit lilith’s dark aesthetic very nicely which is very good for her, but there are two other ones, hot owl and screech owl, which draw her closer to Edaand away from the coven and her depiction in the mid-later episodes of the show as a monster for cursing eda, but also the name night monster could come into play if while sharing the curse Lilith acquired some of its traits, similar to Edaas the owl beast. Ultimately, we have this little red head girl who eventually fights back against the men who are attempting to get her to be under them, for the character that is belos, for the other Lilith that is adam, god, and his angels, and now hopefully both of them will find solace and repose among the owls in a place they never thought they’d belong. All this talk of owls and god brings us into the other clawthorne baddie:

EDA

For this I'm going to use her full name edalyn, because you know like that’s just how it be it is her name. There isn’t a wiki page for her name like there is for Lilith which makes this a little bit harder but the general consensus seems to be that it means something along the lines of “gift of god”, which I find very interesting. If you are going to name a child gift of god i’m assuming that you are referring to the child themselves, but I don’t think that really applies to eda. I’m not religious, but its my impression that someone who lies cheats pranks and steals their way to the top and isn’t exactly the most responsible witch on the isles might not be the best gift god could give. I do really love Eda though, her character flaws are still a part of her character, but I think this refers to her powers. Eda considers herself to be the boiling isles gift to magic, which I mean like, have you seen the woman. In agony of a witch we see her at what probably 30% of her power with how much the curse was already tolling on her and how much magic she was probably using to fight it off, and like goddamn. She was almost beating lilith, definitely beating the shit out of her, but she was almost defeating Lilith who was at her full power, and that is just a fraction of what she used to be able to do. Her powers were a gift of god, and I think that the loss of them will greatly affect her. She’s already admitted that she doesn’t know how to do much without her magic, and I think going straight from the second most powerful witch on this isles to having no power at all is going to be incredibly taxing on her, physically and mentally.

Gus, my main man, love you but for this we are gonna have to use the full on augustus sorry babes. The name augustus means majestic, or venerable, which while I must say that the illusion of kiki doing the worm was probably one of the most majestic things I have ever seen, I’m going to focus on venerable a bit more here. Venerable is a big word, it means “accorded a great deal of respect, especially because of age, wisdom, or character.”, which for gus the age part might play a smaller part here, but he is good as what he does, Luz and willow both respect him, Eda Respects him, he’s this little dude who is younger than everyone and has to rely on his ability to succeed, not inly with his power but with his personality.Gus seems to be confident in himself, communicating with everyone regardless of who they are or what power they hold, similarly to willow he was willing to do anything to help Luz , leading into the second description of venerable, “heroic in nature”. Now, you might be wondering, bestie where ever did you get that description, it totally wasn’t from a religious page okyesitwas but that's fine because being pronounced venerable guarantees a spot in heaven so get it bestie. Overall, the general meaning for augustus is that they are strong, respectable, and powerful, which takes us right into the
