Willow: Behind the Magic
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Not much else to say. They said it all. This is why I love Willow and why I fight for its return. Disney took this from them and from us.

Summary: Kit had always wondered why Jade was constantly wearing high necked clothes and now that her relationship with Jade had finally shifted from a platonic friendship to a physical romance, with a lot of kisses and make-outs, Kit really wanted to move things further.. And having Jade constantly stopping her from undressing her, was making Kit quite frustrated.

Beyond the Shattered Sea
Tumblr media
The penultimate episode does not disappoint. We finally make it to the Shattered Sea. Elora has finally started to control her powers and shockingly so has Graydon.
Tumblr media
This is the most visually stunning episode and has too many beautiful moments to showcase them all here. One of my favorite is Kenneth the mudmander. Without him they wouldn't have made it. Plus he's so CUTE!
Tumblr media
Overall this is one of the best episodes, possibly the best even though it's still not my favorite. It does have my favorite scene, the training montage of Elora with Graydon and Kit With Jade.
Tumblr media
I also appreciate the emotional vulnerability shown by Boorman and Willow during their journey. This is also the episode where we see the most of Airk's personality while talking to Lili. Kit and Elora finally reach Airk but unfortunately so has the crone.
Tumblr media
It is a long and difficult journey filled with confessions of love, friendship and even fear. It's a great set up for the season finale.

Children of the Wyrm
The final chapter of Vol 1. Our season one finale and, at least for now, our last episode.
Tumblr media
Kit and Elora have made it to Airk but find him under the influence of the crone. The crone tries to turn Kit as well but Madmartigan ( voiced by Jack Kilmer) reminds her of the truth. Elora is nearly lost but Willow arrives in time to save her.
Tumblr media
Kit, Jade and Boorman face off against the Gales while Graydon tries to take on the crone. Unfortunately he isn't quite powerful enough and Graydon is lost.
Tumblr media
Elora unlocks her full power and is able to defeat the crone but not before she passes her power to Airk in the most disturbing kiss ever.
Tumblr media
Boorman has given the cuirass to Kit and the lux to Jade while he faces the Gales alone. With the cuirass activated Kit takes her place as Elora's champion and fights her possessed brother. She is able to overpower him and with Willow's help, bring him back to the light.
Tumblr media
With the Crone and the Gales defeated, our heroes mourn Graydon's sacrifice and begin the journey home to prepare for the war to come.
Tumblr media
In the final scene we see that Graydon isn't, but he is the realm of the Wyrm. Disguised as Elora, the Wyrm offers Graydon a place at her side.
Tumblr media
It's an action filled episode with a bitter sweet ending. There are, as always, several moments that are hilarious but drama drives this episode. There are more questions than answers and was clearly never meant to be the end of the story.
Tumblr media
This speech Willow gives Elora is my favorite of the series and Warwick Davis performed it beautifully. I've come back to these words many times this year when things have been bad for me. They've helped me keep going when I felt like giving up. I hope that soon this series will return and it can give more people the kind of hope and joy it has given me when they need it.

The Whispers of Nockmaar
Tumblr media
This might be my favorite episode of season one (still hoping for two and three)
As a fan of the original movie going back to Nockmaar was so exciting for me. The way flashbacks included with ghostly imagery where impressive. It was a great way to include Bavmorda, Rizelle and General Kael as well as Elora's mother before her execution.
Tumblr media
This is also a great character episode, giving insight into each of them individually that a both emotional and hilarious at times. This episode truly showcase the mixture of humor and drama that makes Willow so unique as a fantasy series.
Tumblr media
Along with so many great moments happening at Nockmaar (which are too many for me to list) we finally get to see Airk again for the first time since he was taken in episode one.
Unrelated, today was a bad day for me, but rewatching a favorite episode of my favorite series and knowing that others where enjoying the same really helped.

The Gales
I can't actually put into words what this meant to me. Willow was one of my favorite movies as a child and I was so excited to see the series. I was also anxious after reading The Chronicles of the Shadow War (if you haven't don't). For the series to be a faithful and entertaining continuation of the movie was a pleasant surprise. I was also amazed by the level of diversity and inclusion that was added without it seeming forced. I really can't say enough how much I did and still do love this first episode.

The High Aldwin
This episode doesn't have as much action as the rest of the season but it we begin to really get to know the new characters (except Airk) The Newlyn village has changed since it was seen in the movie but don't stay long enough to find out why. This is also when we find out a bit about what happened to Madmartigan and who Boorman is in relation to the others.
Unsurprisingly my favorite part of this episode (besides Mims being adorable and badass) is of course Graydon. While the others question Willow's claim that Dove is Elora (including Elora) Graydon is instantly certain. Even when Willow begins to wonder if it's too late for Elora to learn magic, Graydon believes in her. It's Graydon's encouragement that helps her finally tap into her powers.
Tumblr media
Admittedly this isn't one of my favorite episodes so far but I still enjoy it. Without it the story would have been rushed and much less fulfilling in the end.

Wildwood
Tumblr media
Episode five starts in total chaos with the group being chased by the Gales forcing them to flee I to the Wildwood where they are soon captured by Bone Reavers.
Tumblr media
This episode is underrated in my opinion. In terms of their quest, things don't progress much but there are significant character development moments and an entertaining celebration following some surprising revelations. I enjoyed seeing the culture of the Bone Reavers and learning about why they chose to side with Bavmorda. We also see Rool, one of the Brownies that helped Willow on his original quest.
Tumblr media
Although we again see nothing of Airk, we do get introduced to Scorpia, leader of the Bone Reavers, Boorman's former love and the sister Jade didn't know about.
I hope that when the show returns we see more of her and get to explore more of both relationships

Prisoners of Skellin
Tumblr media
Kit and Willow have been taken by trolls and the rest of the group is on a mission to save them. Scorpia splits off to rescue her missing people and for now says goodbye
Tumblr media
While being held captive Kit and Willow meet Allagash, who was captured during the search for the cuirass and gives some insight into what happened to Madmartigan
Tumblr media
Airk has seemingly been left alone in the Immemorial City but something is trying to tempt him into the temple. He repeatedly tries to escape only to find himself back where he started
Tumblr media
This episode is loaded with plot details but doesn't seemed rushed. This episode is another example of how Willow seamlessly blends action, drama, and comedy.

The Battle at the Slaughtered Lamb
There was more action in this episode compared to the previous two. The episode begins with the group attempting to rescue Elora. Personally, I think it was better that they couldn't because it gives Elora a chance to free herself instead. It also creates a sort of side quest for the group. Before they can continue trying to rescue Airk, they first have to rescue Elora. During the titular battle we see highlights of everyone's skills (or lack) and final see Willow use magic.
As far as favorites of the episode mine has tonbe Silas. The shit he talks during the battles is hilarious and he is absolutely fearless to the end.
Tumblr media
Despite the unfortunate and tragic deaths in this episode it has humor and heart. Episode 3 is enjoyable to rewatch. It also sets up one of my favorite episodes.
