Again not a dungeon meshi reader/watcher but every time I hear about that laois guy I get reminded of how my system had/has a hyperfixation on dragons so intense that we got that big fancy dragonology book and we treated it like the damn dragon Bible for like years

Now, obviously, we understand that there's different interpretations on mythical creatures, and no one interpretation on a dragon is necessarily gospel, but that multiple interpretations on the classic tale of beasts of scale and fire are completely valid and to be expected!

I tend not to get into “WOF meta” that much since I tend to find that stuff kind of cringe. However I came to the realization that part of what made the original books stand out, at least in my experience, was how “morally grey” the conflict was. Not in the way that morally grey characters are prominent in the conflict, but in that every obvious solution for a conflict and every side of the conflict kind of sucks. There’s a lot more obvious “good vs evil” in arcs 2 and 3, or at least a more definite “morally good” end goal. Over half of the first arc was the central characters just trying to survive, something darkly reflected with more villainous groups like the Nightwings. Nevermind the actual goal the protagonists are supposed to solve, of which there is no obvious good solution. The one group that should be outright helpful to them, the Talons of Peace, is probably one of the most dangerous groups they could encounter. Almost every authority figure, from their parents to queens, the dragonets encounter are at best unhelpful. The only ultimate message is one about the strength of friendship and that war is hell.

Like did Sutherland just…forget to add scenes where Moon shows interest in either of the boys? She really doesn’t seem to think of either of them as anything more than a friend, and then we suddenly get a confession at the end that feels completely unearned because all we’ve seen of a “love triangle” is the pining of the boys and absolute radio silence from moon

Moonkajou and Qinter all the damn way Jesus, honorable mentions to Moonstalker because I like it in theory but not in practice

(Edit: also go read Darkstalker’s choice by warrioratheart on deviantart, it’s leagues above the canon ending while not actually changing the plot, literally it’s the true ending and no one can change my mind)

The bestest thing that has ever existed in the wof universe is that fucking Albatross ghost thing. Literally what was the point. It's especially more funny considering the other two events that happened in the ToP epilogue which consist of Vulture terrorizing a city and Glacier dying. Two important plot beats you know. And then that ghost is literally never mentioned again until the end of DoD where Coral just casually mentions the ghost like it's your average Tuesday

no okay listen. penny would LOVE wings of fire. she likes the "weird"/twitchy/neurodivergent characters like peril and whiteout and kinkajou. i can't decide her favorite dragonet of destiny but her favorite character in arc 2 is peril and her all time favorite is whiteout bc her and thoughtful remind her of her and ricky. also peril and clay remind her of her and ricky.
