something i really like about jedi: fallen order and cal's character is the way cal displays those signs of trauma and panic. in the beginning of the game, you can really see how skittish, afraid and cagey he is, along with his mannerisms and facial expressions after he escapes. he looks absolutely terrified and shellshocked, ie distressed expression, trembling, holding tight to his light saber, shaky breathing etc. he's like a cornered animal, afraid and defensive, can't stand still. and we can see it when cal experiences his flashbacks and visions as the game goes on. cal can't shake it off right away, even though you can tell he's clearly trying to push it all down.
same goes for cere, merrin, and trilla, though in different ways, which makes it even better.
a lot of games have characters go through really intense/traumatic situations, but they bounce back immediately and/or have very weak reactions and that always really bothered me. but in jedi: fallen order, you can really tell that these characters are carrying trauma and we can see it through their behavior, body language and expressions.
i just really appreciate the way they portray trauma and how it impacts people in a realistic and relatable way without being disrespectful or performative.
ITS SO CRAZY THAT THIS BANGER OF A LINE WAS USED OUTSIDE OF A CUTSCENE IN JEDI: FALLEN ORDER(2019). I totally understand why they used it again in Kenobi(2022) with Anakin and Obi-wan’s ‘I am what you made me’. IT GOES SO HARD!!
“Who was your master, padawan? Someone I killed, perhaps? What Jedi gave their life so that you might live?” (Trilla Suduri & Cal Kestis, Jedi Fallen Order)
