hello! i've been reading genesis for...oh god, since 2017-2018, i think. and it's been a blast, i love the series a lot! it's a really unique storyline with one of my favorite characters (mewtwo, beloved) and your art is fantastic! i was wondering how much of the storyline you have planned out/had planned out, and how much of it has changed over time? and how far along we are in the storyline/how much is left before the end. i hope you have a good day!

Oh wow, you've been around for a while lol Hi friend!

I'll be honest, Genesis had the most bare bones of starts. I created the characters for what I thought was going to be a one-off costume month long challenge, with some other old ocs to fill out the roster. I had zero plan to create a story with these new characters, since I was brand new to the idea of having a story based off of pokemon game play. I've always been a first and foremost Zelda fan and was actually slowly picking at my own Zelda story at the time but I couldn't quite get the story to go the way I wanted and I was determined to draw that comic first.

And then I drew this:

This is the first time I drew Prime, and a younger M2-K, I think. One of the very few things I drew before I launched into starting Genesis. Y'all might recognize this scene from the first few pages of chapter 2 lol. I was riding off of that high of finishing my first long-term project and now I had somewhere where I could start. So three months after that October challenge, I decided screw it, I'll just draw this pokemon comic as a practice, be done in like 2-3 years, then work on Zelda again. And then lol here we are almost 7 years later.

A lot of my planning has gone like this; I draw a thing, and then work it into the story somewhere like threading pearls on a string, then I add more beads in between the pearls as I go.

So Genesis has points that I know I'm going to hit (the ending has probably the thoroughly written script of all of Genesis and I'm quite happy with it) but a lot of it is in a fuzzy grey area of I only kinda know what's going to happen next, I just need to write how to get there. It keeps me engaged with the story and the few drawings I have as story concepts are the juicy carrots I dangle in front of myself to keep the motivation going even if I'm going through an art rut or if work has been particularly draining.

As for things that have changed? Alcina didn't exist in the beginning. I sketched up a gardevoir gijinka in my sketchbook bc I needed K to talk to someone. And then she stuck around. Heph wasn't originally planned either, and he actually replaced this guy:

Talil was originally going to be the one to fix K's prosthetics, but that's all I really had him around for, and he eventually got scrapped. Which is a real shame, because heliolisk is one of my favorite Kalos mons. I did later use the concept of shorting out K's prosthetics when he fought a luxray in chapter 1.

I can't remember when V came into being, but I think it was sometime after Genesis had started, but well before she was introduced. She was originally supposed to be that one mewtwo from the Genesect movie (and that's where the V in M2-V originated from, M2-K was originally short for Mewtwo-Kalos. And then I made it worse by going alphabetically :) )

As for how much longer are we going to have? We've definitely passed the halfway point. But since I've had a revelation and added [REDACTED] in to the story, chapter 3 got longer unexpectedly and is gonna be split into a surprise fourth chapter. And then an epilogue, but //handwaves that's farther down the line.

anyway.... hard question, but I think right now it's gotta be Sana! he doesn't even have an outfit & im not sure I'm going to give him one, but. okay everyone already knows this about me already, I STARTED AS A CAT ARTIST.... for like a decade! way before I ever started drawing/rping humans. so I'm still having fun with my gijinka lore, but I've been playing around with a little offshoot bit of lore that's just completely self indulgent cat isekai.

the premise of this 'subclan' is based off the cat world in A Whisker Away (or like The Cat Returns— same idea!) where there's... either it's going to be a tavern (classic) (sorry wilde) or some other kind of pocket dimension, where when you have to be turned into a kitty to enter/when you enter. I'm either gonna do a similar idea as the talismans that Astramor uses, or play with a mask thing like the movie.

Anyway, Sana!

Sana (he/they) married into the family/clan that runs the kittydistrict, or at least largely influences it, their surname is Tailurus but they're referred to collectively as the Tailurians. there's a couple aspects im still waffling on, but basically they're a family of savannah cats!

I have a really old bunch of concept art here, I'm just recycling it:

they married for love, and kind of had the thought that this could overcome anything— which was a REALLY big assumption to make, and did not really work out. the stress of constant harassment from the family & the alienation eventually took too big a toll on their relationship, and they split up. Sana is now dating Cooper (they're not married— Sana doesn't really want to do that again) and his ex-wife is... well, she's not particular in a better position, but I'm not sure either of them are, despite that Sana maybe has it better off.

Cooper (he/him— he's trans) has always loved Sana, they're longtime friends, and he still kind of has the impression that he loves Sana more than they love him. which isn't true, obviously, but it's a small weight on their relationship that Sana can sense and it scares him a bit. being loved is a huge responsibility, and after what happened last time, they kind of have the habit of holding on very lightly in case everything goes to shit again. which, doesn't help Cooper's feelings. particularly.

their (eventual) kid doesn't have a name, but I want to make these two a breeding pair I draw/design art for while I'm breeding for the specific colors I want. I also have Sana on a nest rn for his kid(s?) from his previous relationship, which I MIGHT make designs for and sell. hav not decided yet.

they make real good kids too.

I'm sorry, I just can't stop thinking of Cryptid Quirrel shenanagains, and also maybe accidentally just. drawing cryptid hunters in after getting his pendant back.

Skdjskdjskd imagening that is great. Poor Quirrel he just wanted to find out why seeing merms were reminding him of something - now he’s gotta deal with cryptid hunters and Soul Masters shit-

Also, I failed to mention this, but Tamer at some point when Quirrel’s at this stage she has her beast! He’s a little baby leviathan and she has everyone convinced that he is just a really weird water dog. The merfolk are not impressed with this term for him.

I’m imagening them knocking on Tamer’s door one day as Quirrel and Myla are hanging out there as well as some of Tamer’s friends (maybe some gijinka versions of the Colosseum Fools 👀, y’know like a gang of sorts-) and it being like:

Hunters: Afternoon!

Tamer: Afternoon, who the fuck are you?

Hunters: We’re the Weird N’ Wild Hunters, we got some tip off from some folks round here that uh- that this here lil’ area got some cryptid activity going on. We’re just here to let you know we’ll be settling our van by these parts to observe what’s going on.

Tamer: Uh…huh. Right.

Hunters: See, we got multiple reports of it being some kind of giant bug scuttling around. Many legs. Water based. Can you confirm any of that?

Tamer: Nope. Never seen anything.

One of the Hunters: Hey, what’s that weird creature you got on your sofa?

Tamer: My pet.

Hunter: Looks like a bug? Like a - like what they describe.

Tamer: Nope, he’s just a water puppy.

Hunters: Ah. Well don’t be a stranger and give us a shout if you see anything!

Tamer: Mmhmm. See ya.
