Percabeth after the first war, who haven’t really gotten to be teenagers, who feel both too old and too young for their skin. Who are so so glad that the war is over, but also feel surprisingly lost, because fighting the war has been their future, their purpose, their job for as long as they can really remember
Annabeth and Percy, who do what all adrift teens do when everything is overwhelming and painful and exciting and when it feels like you don’t have a purpose any more:
they make a bucket list.
it starts small. They go clothes shopping together, close enough to Sally’s house that they can get home quick if they need too. They start to develop their own senses of style. They go to a farmers market. They make graffiti at one point and nearly get caught but the entire time they’re giggling through their fingers.
then comes the hair.
it was just a random item on the bucket list: hair dye.
and they were going to get crazy colors, Percy was going to dye his bright teal blue, no hesitation. He was decided. But then they’re standing in the shopping aisle, looking at the colorful boxes, and Percy’s eyes catch on a model, and they have long dark hair that’s just the same shade as Annabeth’s.
and he scans the aisle, and there’s another one, a bright sandy gold, and he turns to Annabeth, who is debating between silver and purple with all the intensity of a teenage war veteran, and says “I have a stupid idea”
they grab a boxed bleach on their way out.
they dye their hair together, and it’s a mess and the dye gets everywhere and it’s not quite even and both of them get a little light headed from the fumes but it’s so much fun
and they refuse to let anyone in the bathroom until their hair is dyed, rinsed and blow dried even though it takes forever because bleaching is a much longer process
when they finally emerge, Sally gasps and then starts to laugh and then Paul joins in and then they’re all laughing.
Percy’s hair is black, Annabeth’s hair is blond.
They’ve switched hair colors. And it’s silly, but it’s also a constant reminder that they’re not alone.
It’s being able to wake up from a nightmare and seeing blond hair on your pillow instead of black and thinking “Percy”. It’s having a bad day where you can’t seem to keep your mind from slipping away from you, then seeing black hair in the corner of your vision and thinking “Annabeth”. It’s a tangible sign that they are connected, that they are alive, and that there is someone who understands. A physical reminder of love.
When their roots grow out, they look at their inverted hair and smile. Like always, they match.

When the Percy Jackson movies first came out, I complained about Annabeth’s casting, mainly for the lack of blonde hair- it was my main point of contention, and if you asked me what was wrong with the movie I would have pointed to her hair color first.
I am now thrilled for the tv show’s casting of Annabeth, and I couldn’t care less that she doesn’t have blonde hair. Why the change of heart?
Because I was 12 when the movie first came out. I didn’t have the vocabulary to articulate why the movies disappointed me, and I was too stupid to connect the dots myself.
I didn’t know why it was important to me that the characters actually look like pre teens and not like they were in their mid 20s.
I didn’t realize just how many plot points and characters didn’t make it to the movie from the book.
I didn’t know how to articulate that it was obvious that the movie didn’t care about the books- the only thing my tiny, little, preteen brain could put together was that they couldn’t even get the hair accurate.
If the movies had made Annabeth’s hair blonde from the beginning, it still would have sucked.
Just based on what Rick has said, the tv series will not be making the same mistakes.
So, you can either stop complaining about the lack of blonde hair, or be honest that you don’t want Annabeth to be black.

Why I think blackwashing is becoming a much more dangerous threat these days:
First of all I am disappointed to see many people defend blackwashing and even worse SUPPORT it, it is becoming quite a lot especially in Disney side (Walt Disney would be rolling in his grave if he saw what they had done to Disney) and really if they wanted to put ACTUAL diversity they would’ve created new characters but they just lazily replace white characters with black versions of them, same name and same story just the character is completely different. Recently for pjo tv show Leah Jeffries was cast for Annabeth Chase an originally white blonde grey eyed Californian girl and no hate to the actor but she has NOTHING to do with Annabeth. She has zero resembles. Worse the so called creator of Percy Jackson series Rick Riordan defends the casting and continues to pursued the fans to like it. He even called many fans “racist” for disliking the inaccurate casting and stating their opinion. I was so shocked about him being so rude towards people who are just disappointed and heartbroken. Many people suspect he did this due to the “woke era” trend that Disney currently, he wants people to see him as someone who adds “diversity” in his works and thinks he is doing the right thing while he’s the racist in this situation for changing Annabeth’s race. Not to mention Annabeth being blonde has a huge role in books. Annabeth is a role model to blonde girls and to show them they are not just some “dumb” blonde. To prove blonde girls are smart and intelligent and to break the stereotypes. He just want approval and obviously more money. Same goes for the new little mermaid live-action Disney will be doing, they casted a poc actress that obviously has nothing to do with original Ariel who had fierce red hair, fair skin and blue eyes. I also recently heard tinkerbell is blackwashed in new Peter Pan remake which is weird to do another Peter Pan when we already had a live-action movie in 2003. Many fans were extremely disappointed with the casting tinkerbell having nothing to do with the original one. It is also highly suspicious that they blackwash either blonde or red-headed characters… we need to say stop to this situation and try our best to boycott it!! For the sake of Walt Disney’s legacy and to stop Disney from ruining our childhood movies.
Here is comparison of them. Down here there is official Art of Annabeth Chase, it’s on Percy Jackson site too. She as you can see below has blonde hair, fair skin and grey eyes and also I want to point out her small nose, thin lips and facial structure while the image next to her is the actress but she has has black braided hair, dark brown eyes and she is black. Her nose is also compared to Annabeth bigger and lips are also bigger as well, hee facile structure doesn’t fit too. She is clearly the OPPOSITE of her. Not to mention Annabeth’s race isn’t african american, she is Californian white girl.
Tumblr media
Here down below is original Ariel and the actress. As you can see Original Ariel and fierce Red hair and bluebell eyes, fair skin. Her facile structure is different as well. Not to mention she is Danish while the actress is poc, has dark brown eyes and has brown braided her. Nothing to do with Ariel. Ariel in the cartoon is also blackwashed for the live-action movie. It is so sad to see a character loved by many to have such an inaccurate casting for the live-action. There aren’t even a lot red-headed princess in fact only Ariel and Merida has fierce red hair. Red headed people get discriminated bc of their hair color and disney isn’t helping them even a bit by this action. Ariel is Danish, let’s not erase her race!!
Tumblr media
Lastly we have tinkerbell. There might be more blackwashed characters or course in fact there are probably many but these are just the ones I saw. Tinkerbell is blonde, blue eyed and fair skinned while the actress is poc, black hair (with braids again?) and dark brown eyes. Disney is clearly using the card “oh but fairies don’t have race🥺” here and the supporters are using the same excuse, they also use that for Ariel who clearly has a race. The fact is if you are doing a live action you need to cast the CLOSEST looking actress to play the character. Some random actress just because they did the lines good can’t play a characters irl form.

Time to lose most of my followers
I really loved Percy Jackson growing up. I read all the books, was drawing fan art and had a friend who we were fangirling about it over. We even had Camp Halfblood custom shirts made for us.
However, I am not looking forward to this new series. When I first heard they are making a series I thought: "This is great!" A series is definitely a better format that movies for this particular story, as there is a lot to cover. And I am happy they cast actors same age as the characters in the book, not 25 like in the movie.
That being said, I was disappointed when I saw the photos, because I really wished we could finally get an adaptation that is faithful to the books, because it would be like the story I read and invisioned in my brain coming to life. And I think that the physical descriptions were a big part of the story. What I liked about Riordan's writing and thought it was unique, is that he put a lot of effort into describing the appearance of every character in detail. Those descriptions were very natural asnd well written as well (it was not like the typical cliche you normally see in YA where a character is standing in front of a mirror and describing what they see). So I have to say I was disappointed when I saw that the actors cast look nothing like the descriptions in the book.
Percy's emerald green eyes and messy dark hair were his defining characteristic in the book but the actor is blond with brown eyes. Grover was supposed to be a pale ginger with freckles but the actor is not pale and has black hair. And it was an important part of Annabeth's personality that she is blonde because people assume she is dumb and make dumb blond jokes only then to be surprised by her intelligence, while her grey eyes are a defining feature of all Athena's children.
Maybe they just cast actors based on skills without looking at their physical appearance. Maybe those children are really talented child actors, who knows. But I think it is strange that the casting for a book where there was so many physical descriptors for everyone would not care about that, considering how nit-picky the fandom is. I mean we all hated the original movie because they changed too many things. People in the fandom would not shut up about Annabeth not being blonde. But with this one they do not care? I guess we matured as we got older but I find it hypocritical and unfair to Alexandra Daddario who got so much hate for not being blonde.
Maybe I am petty and nit-picky but I really just wanted the exact same story where everything looks exactly the same as in the book on my tv screen. Hopefully they will at least stay faithful to the story and not change important plot elements, like they did in the movies.

Black annabeth🥺🦉.
Tumblr media
I actually wanted to draw book annabeth and tv series annabeth together (like many people are doing with book percy and tv series percy) But I didn't have much time so I only drawed Tv series annabeth ( she doesn't look that much like Leah Sava' Jeffries, but I'm dumb and I cannot make portaits in my style that looks like the real person, and also I cannot draw 12 years old,so I draw Annabeth older)
Honestly,I would love to see Annabeth blonde BUT if the actress doesn't want to dye her hair it's totally ok.
Also,If you comment hate about the fact that Annabeth is black, I'll block you. Every Annabeth is a good Annabeth and if you want to draw her white you can, but don't comment racist things thx
For her hair I was inspired by this picture🥰
