somebody rec me some good books. and they do actually have to be good. don’t rec me something just because it’s gay or it’s popular, it has to also still be good. like both the story and the writing have to be good none of this good concept bad writing or good writing horrible story. fantasy or soft scifi preferred, especially if it’s nontraditional fantasy. I am bored and sick of the internet and I want to get back into reading more but I’m kinda meh about most of what’s on my shelf
*edit: when I say “soft scifi” I don’t mean cozy I mean not hard scifi, as in stories that are more fantastical than grounded in hard science. for example the Martian is considered hard scifi, so not that. Star Wars would be closer to a soft scifi bc it’s all bullshit on the science end and it’s more about the vibes
#I started the jasmine throne and that was good but then I noticed a somewhat repetitive quirk of the writing style#and once I noticed it I couldn’t STOP noticing it which was extremely distracting and made it hard to pay attention to the story#the problem with books is I am sooooo hypercritical and so many ppl are bad writers and get published anyway#and booktok can’t tell the difference so these shitty books become bestsellers just bc they’re gay and tropey#not that jasmine throne is bad writing. it’s ok writing I just can’t stop noticing they overuse one particular sentence structure#and now it’s driving me crazy#but there are plenty of other bestselling books that ARE legitimately bad writing#I’m reading a psalm for the wild built rn and that is genuinely really good and next is the second book#but I’m almost done with the first one and both are like. really short. so I need something for when I finish those#(carefully does not look at the stack of comics I bought at SPX that I haven’t read yet)

speaking of ocd, I think I'm realizing that I truly don't have anxiety and it's literally just my ocd. im not anxious about anything until it involves me and suddenly I'm spiraling
#[static]#it's hard to describe succinctly but the anxiety I deal with nowadays is directly related to my ocd and autism#some anxiety is so easy to brush off but the ones stemming from my ocd are extremely difficult to get out from under#i'll spiral for weeks about one specific thing and ruminate on it and mentally worry and pick at it forever#it's utterly exhausting jfkdghdf some days are easier than others#and often that one thing I ruminate on becomes multiple things all stemming from the first thing#like recently it's been my car ... the thing is totally fine ... runs fine drives fine but ive been freaked out by it for the last 3 weeks#every time i go into the shop theyre like ... everything is good in fact its in good condition for its age and they'll mention like#one thing that will need to be replaced to keep it in tip top condition and then my brain will fixate on it and imagine all the ways#something horrific will happen if that doesnt get changed and then that leads to all the other things in the car suddenly freaking me out#i defs used to have general anxiety and depression but those went away literally the day i got top surgery#poof instantly gone it was wild and i kept waiting for the other shoe to drop#never did but now my ocd has been really bad the last 6 months cuz of all the extra horrifying things going on#so i thought it was just my anxiety coming back but this week i realized it was my ocd and have been treating it accordingly#and ive seen some relief but i definitely need to go back to therapy once i get my insurance again#its the only way to get a hold on it and my last therapist ended up moving states so we didnt get to work on tools for it very much#im yapping at this point i just needed to vent for a second about how truly yucky ocd makes me feel

There's a cut because you made me speak about my two favourite missions (with all its flaws, but I write fanfictions to fill gaps in a story, and the Arbor Wilds is the perfect match of a map I love, lore, fun banter -Solas and Morrigan should co-host a talk show where the guest inevitably tries to stop them from turn the other into a toad... and my brain is on fire.)

The sense of community.
Acting like you're part of a group, your actions aren't really just yours, but can influence everyone else. The sense that you can survive only together, and everyone has a part to play, no matter how small.
12. How efficient are they with things like crafting potions or repairing their own armor?
Potions: she's pretty good. Her Keeper was a very skilled herbalist and she learnt well from her. She's not exceptional or a talent, and it doesn't come naturally to her, but she studied enough to be highly proficient.
Repairing armour: She can keep her armour in good conditions from fighting. As a Storm Witch, she doesn't wear much metal in her gear (too conductive, and she uses armours in enemies enough to know exactly what happens if she makes a mistake). She knows how to to maintenance, but for bigger repairs she definitely needs help.
DRAGON AGE: INQUISITION
06. How did they behave at the Winter Palace? Who did they support in the political scheming?
Contrary to most people's belief, seeing her wearing her heart on her sleeve, she behaved very well. After long, LONG weeks of Josephine training her for the task. With the super-power of the people-pleaser, she won Belle of the Ball.
On the support... With the Well of Sorrow, it's the one choice that keeps haunting her in the future.
She couldn't bring herself to trust Gaspard to stay put and let Briala tell him what to do without any retortion. In her opinion, if the man launched his country in a civil war out of ambition, he isn't one to be trusted with a throne, and he isn't one to be trusted not to try and gain some more power for himself.
She hated it to guts, but she supported Celene, believing that out of love, she'd be a little less prone to assassinate Briala than De Chalons.
Kept every single scrap of paper she found in her studio as a safeguard and is ready to take everything out and blackmail the Empress should the need occur. Yes even after she disbanded the Inquisition, Leliana is instructed to call her immediately if Celene looks at another Alienage for more than 10 seconds.
She is still not sure it was the right decision, even if she really despises Gaspard too.
12. Did they respect the rituals in Mythal’s Temple? Who drank from the Well of Sorrows, Morrigan or your Inquisitor?
Respected every single ritual, defined the floor puzzles as "quirky but fun", quarreled with Cassandra and almost broke her friendship with her over it.
Another decision that haunts her even after: she let Morrigan drink, thinking she was readier than her to face the consequences (after being assured thrice that Kieran would have been taken care of by a trusted person should something bad happen). For her, it would have been a jump in the dark with risks she hadn't considered before, and respected Morrigan enough to trust her with it. Add the fact that Solas was a little too much involved in that choice... Which never happened before. She took it as an alarm bell and trusted him thinking that at least Morrigan was prepared to face risks, knew some of them... She didn't. If hurt and it felt bitter that she didn't, but she stepped back. Kept her sister back too.

13. What do they think of Flemeth? If they drank from the Well, how do they feel about being now beholden to her as Mythal?
Terrible mother, struggles to connect Flemeth to the Mythal she's been taught about.
It was the first crack in her faith. It kept up for 2 years thinking that she did it for the greater good and was thinking on the long run... And then well, Trespasser happened, and it's part of the reason why she took it so bad.
If she had actually drank from the Well, she'd hate being beholden by her. But like, hate to the point of asking Solas to fix that and leave the Anchor, leave her to die instead.
She feels horribly guilty about having left the Well to Morrigan. If she could turn back time again, this is the one choice she'd change in a heartbeat.
If she knew from the start, she would have pushed Morrigan away from the Well and jumped in herself, Pocahontas-style to spare her being beholden by her.
But I played that mission without knowing so go Aisling you can have one horror more.

currently in mourning because i won't be able to fix my car in time for Sonic Temple even though their line up is Great this year with acts like Rob Zombie and (rare in the states) Band Maid. did you think about going this year since you're in the state?

#Of all the ways for my laptop to break... I did not expect Only my left ear in the headphone jack to go#USBs? Working fine. Disc Drive? Ain't no thing. SD Card reader? Gotcha.#Fucking uhhhhhhh Left-Ear Headphones?? From the same Headphone Jack????? Sorry???????#Why only the left?? Like if both broke I'd just be like Oh Okay the jack is broken I can understand that#Or if it was the headphones themselves I'd be like Oh Okay some of the wires got loose since they're in separate lines#But then it happened on my Good Headphones that I Just Bought that only have the One Cord for both ear pieces and I Became Suspicious#I have literally never had a jack break on me like this this is so wild#Luckily I had this spare USB volume control which is Not my favourite for several reasons lol#Initially when I bought it I was interested because I thought it was a) a splitter or b) in-line volume control#It is neither! It's basically a plug-and-play volume button#For...in case.....you don't.........have? a volume button? on your device? The horrors I would not buy a device like that in the first place#Everything is a tactile button for me thank you#And also you can plug in a mic but I have a separate USB mic that I like better so lol no on that one#So it was useless! i know where the shame in being trans came from (my parents) but I was lying to myself about myself more than anything, basically from middle school until I was a fully grown adult.
#in middle school I dated a girl who only agreed to date me because i told her one day i would be a boy.#which is wild to me now. i realized when i was younger that i was Gendered in some way#and i attempted to act on it as a younger teenager. binding with bandages and too-right sports bras#stealing my brothers clothes because they didn't give me an anxiety attack to leave the house in#i came out to my mother at 15 while we were on a long drive#she told me i was wrong. ''if you were trans there would have been signs.''#and then we didn't talk anymore. i bottled it everything up and started doubling down on being as feminine as possible#i struggled with being feminine. i never felt like i was doing it correctly. i would watch makeup tutorials. fashion videos. hair tutorials#and i would work so hard to be the most feminine version of myself because i thought if i just Did It Right it would feel right eventually.#but i came to the realization i was miserable. deeply miserable. so i worked very slowly at overcoming my fear and self hate and eventually#i had the courage to buy a binder. and that was it. I haven't looked back.#that first time trying it on was exhilarating. i had never felt like my body was mine until i saw my flat chest in a t-shirt.
