The Color Purple musical was SUPERB. Not a dry eye left in the house, and for all sorts of different reasons. My grandmother isn’t a movie theatre person and she asked to go again!

Fun Home is credited with being the first Broadway musical to have a lesbian protagonist. I’m genuinely confused because I thought Celie from the Color Purple was a lesbian. Does Joanne from Rent not count because she is seen more as a featured character in an ensemble cast instead of the main role? I’m being legit about this.

Word of advice for nonblack folks going to see the Color Purple:
Do not speak to Black audience members before or after the movie. They want to reflect on Black suffering and revel in Black joy and the enduring spirit of Black women. They don’t want to talk to you.
