Monkey house on fire

On the Night of the 31st December to the 1st January a brutally fire burned in the Monkey –Tropichouse in Krefeld. By miracle, three of almost thirty Monkeys, including endangered monkey species, could survive. Also flight animals, like birds and bats had to die.

The cause is now known.

Local residents, who live near the zoo could watch so called sky laterns, which are not allowed in Germany. One oft them probably got caught on the acrylic glass roof and set everything on fire. As the police arrived at the catastrophe, it was already to late. The animals could no longer get saved.
