Nuzlocke SLLD liveblog, part 2

With everyone up to level 10, I went ahead and started delivering Pinewood’s Pokedexes to Rodney and Keira, and it looks like we’re starting this post with a battle!

Oh, or not. Gotta talk to Rodney first

I’m up for it, dude

So the agenda is: 1. rival battle(s?), 2. catch a bug in the forest, 3. Snake Gym

...

Quick stop at home to get a Pokegear from Mom, which means we can officially take on quests at Pokecenters!

Hah, so maybe some quests WILL be doable despite this being a Nuzlocke. Nice!!

Quest 1: “I’m too shy to talk to my crush! Can you hand her this letter for me oh golly!!”

Quest 2: “My beloved is ill and the journey to find a physician would be much too dangerous for me. You’re her only hope, kind stranger...”

Oh before I move on to the next battles, btw, I should probably mention that, during the training sesh, Gaston learned Sing, Elphaba learned Thundershock, and Toby learned SAND TOMB. Fire/Ground typing confirmed??

Oh neat, she’s got a female starter. Also Sing’s accuracy makes me cry

She healed my Pokemon and headed into Mossy Forest, so I guess we should too

I’ve been waiting for a Grass-type so I could deploy names from my favorite musical

This little guy will be Seymour

While I’m training Seymour up to match the rest of the squad--no, the troupe--I might as well deliver that quest letter too

Heh. So she goes back to the Pokemon Center and the kid gives me a Rare Candy.

Quick training session, brb

Seymour’s level 10 and everyone else is 11, so I feel safe again. On to the forest!

Man I am so LUCKY to have found another bird Pokemon right off the bat!

... And after running around in the grass for a bit, it seems like this and Cheepip were the only two new Pokemon in this area, too. No bugs after all!

Or I could be TOTALLY WRONG AND IMMEDIATELY RUN INTO ANOTHER SHINY THING WHAT THE FRICK

Going with Johanna for the name because she’s beautiful and pale with yellow hair, like wheat-!

Per the rules I set for myself, it’s into the box with her until something--heaven forbid--happens to Seymour.

Whoop--first non-rival trainer battle! Let’s see just how prepared we are for progress

Eyyy there’s another Bug-type. Looks like something that’d be vulnerable to a good ol’ fashioned PECK

Wild Stickits exist in this forest too, apparently!

And another trainer on this route had something called a Doveheart

Carmen Sandiego here wants a Lavenseed for a trade. :(

(The other two quests in town are just to gather up a woman’s playing children and to repeat a “password” that I have yet to find.)

Blah blah he says to come back after I get the gym badge for a reward, and Rodney runs off to challenge the gym first

Lemme look at the rest of town before I join him

Might as well teach Toby and Elphaba Headbutt--beats Scratch and Pound.

Oh, interesting

Don’t have any Psychic-types unfortunately, though Toby’s Ground-type moves might come in handy. We’ll have to see if his second form is Fire/Ground so I can get the STAB and resistances

Oops, exploration of the town interrupted yet again by a cutscene

So Donna’s taking a break at Serpentine Gardens and we have to go talk to her. Rodney’s disappointed

Gonna give Grasswhistle one attempt and then switch to Elphaba for this

And his starter is level 12. Not bad, not bad.

Makes me worry a bit about the gym in this town, but I’m pretty set on at least evolving Toby to see about that secondary Ground typing so it shouldn’t be too much of a problem

ANOTHER rival?? *rubs hands together* And Rick seems like he’s going to be more antagonistic than Keira and Rodney. I think I like the dynamic going on here

So Rick claims the gym leader is out resting because he defeated her earlier. Slow down there, Gary Oak

Well, Rodney, time for the two of us to train up before taking on Donna.

Ah, the last house in town has the doctor the man in Mossy Town was asking about

On that note let’s turn in some quests really quick

Gonna run back to the Mossy Pokecenter to talk to the guy who needed the doctor, too

(Found Dovehearts in the Headbutt trees in Mossy Forest!)

I had to google “gepard” and apparently it’s another name for “cheetah” (and also a tank-like anti-aircraft gun?? not sure if that’s related)

But our goal is achieved--Toby is now a Ground-type, Poison-killing machine >:3

With that, I think we’re ready to move onto the next area. I don’t know if there will be anything catchable in the Garden or not but we’ll find out in the next post!
