can't help but think about ennis being the first one to say i love you. like okay, jack obviously thinks it first and wants to say it, but i think he'd be just fine leaving it unsaid too y'know. i think that if they really did end up getting that sweet life, a ranch with their own business, that would be more than enough. it would be like, having that place together, being partners, was just as much of an i love you as saying it. and he knows ennis is more of an action man anyway, so it's clear that the love is there. and so i think that one night, a little while into their ranch business, they'd be sitting together by a fire in their yard, jack rambling on about something, and ennis would be giving him that look of such adoration, like jack went and hung all the stars in the sky, and he'd say it. it wouldn't be loud, it would be just a soft whisper. and jack would shut right up and stare at him with such a bewildered look. he never really thought that would happen. he thought it would always just be an unspoken thing. but there it was, out in the open. and before ennis could get all defensive and shit like he definitely would, jack would get this dopey grin on his face and he'd say it right back and that would be that.
