Drizzle Season 2023 Trailer Breakdown!
Hey everyone! So we finally got a new trailer for Drizzle Season 2023 (and before y'all ask there was no Side Order in the trailer, unfortunately...) and damn this season's looking fresh! Anyways, here's my breakdown of the trailer (including some news that wasn't in the trailer!)
New splatband inkoming! In the trailer we get a preview of a new song called "Ripstop and Go" by a new splatband called H2Whoa!
New stage #1: Crableg Capital!
New weapon type #1: the Dread Wringer, a new slosher that shoots two slosher projectiles at once!
Also it appears that we're finally getting a second kit for the Tri-Stringer!
New stage #2: Shipshape Cargo Co. (suprisingly we aren't getting a returning stage... or are we...?)
New weapon type #2: Heavy Edit Splatling. Not too sure what this new splatling's gimick is, though.
GOLD DYNAMO IS FINALLY BEING ADDED TO THE GAME.
You can flip hats backwards now
Salmonid Smokeyard is coming back to Salmon Run!
We're getting new, interesting worksuits for Salmon Run as well!
Tableturf Battle cards reveal other returning weapons such as Goo Tuber Deco, a new Sloshing Machine (most likely Sloshing Machine Neo), Octobrush Nouveau, Bloblober Deco, Ballpoint Splatling Nouveau, and a new vanilla brella (most likely a sorella).
New king salmonid Tableturf Battle cards (if only we actually got a new king salmonid instead of just cards)
New challenges include Inkjets for Everyone (Too Many Trizookas but with inkjets), Swim It to Win It (not too sure what the gimick to this challange is), and Modded Rainmaker Test-Fire (where the rainmaker has 3 shots instead of one).
And that's all I could get from the trailer. Anyways here's some news that we DIDN'T get with the trailer!
Next splatfest will be held next month from the 8th to the 10th, celebrating S3's first anniversary! The theme? Well, hold onto your tentacles everyone because the next splatfest theme is.... Who would be the best leader? Shiver v Frye v Big Man! Basically we're getting a repeat of the S1 final splatfest, Callie v Marie, but without the change of one of Deep Cut's members getting squidnapped!
Not only will we be getting a splatfest next month, before the fest we'll be having a big run starting from September 1st to the 3rd! The stage hasn't been announced yet, but I will post an update once we get more news about the big run!
We're getting Deep Cut badges! These badges can be earned by playing 10x battles! And if you can't win a 10x battle or can't make it this splatfest, you can win them in other splatfests!
Speaking of banner decor, everyone will be able to recieve Deep Cut banners via Splatoon 3's news channel on the switch starting the begining of Drizzle Season 2023!
And finally, the moment you've all been waiting for... NEW DEEP CUT AMIIBOS WILL BE RELEASING NOVEMBER 17TH! We don't know what gear we'll be getting just yet, but hey! They're here!
And that's all the news about the update we have so far! Of course we're still going to get more news on Twitter (I'll never refer to the site as X! NEVER!), so I'll post more about the update if something signifigcant is posted. Staaay fresh, everyone!

The Octo-Spider
Tumblr media
As I’m sure a lot of you have already guessed by the amount of fan art of her I re-tweet on Twitter (and no, I’m NEVER calling it X! That is a lame as Hell name compared to Twitter) Shiver is one of my favourite characters from Splatoon 3. And there’s a lot of good reasons for that. Her beautiful and cool Japanese inspired design, her personality and dialogue and also in my personal opinion the best boss fight in Splatoon 3. There’s a lot I really like about this octopus lady.
So, what better way to show my love for her than to have her bond to the living alien parasite suit from the Marvel universe that is the Venom Symbiote!? “Buying the Shiver Amiibo?” Already beat you two that! After raiding an old abandon facility likely used by humans Deep Cut stumbled upon some strange looking goo that attached itself to Shiver not only making her stronger but also have higher reflexes and web swing like it’s a sort of infinite use Zipcaster. And also, you know, makes her look sexy as all hell! That helps two. This suit is sure to be a massive benefit to her and her team. Don’t think they can sell it for any money or anything though. Not that I think Shiver should get rid of it of course.
Inkling Michael: I mean, she COULD always sell it to me. But then I’d probably just sell it back to her again anyway because Cod dam she’s good looking in that!
Oh and also, she’s got the classic blue tint to her suit as well! This is a tint colour for the Symbiote I don’t see drawn as much in fan art and I think I picked the best character to pair it with… Hey actually, since this is a Splatoon related pic, I’ve been meaning to ask Inkling Me. How is it you’re here in my timeline when you come from a universe millennia after humanity get’s wiped out by mass flooding according to the official Splatoon lore anyway?
IM: Well, it’s mostly because I also go exploring in old human ruins sometimes and I once stumbled upon a magic rock thing that turned out to be a key to the multiverse and after playing with it for a bit I wound up here in your time.
Yeah, I… find that a little hard to believe to be honest.
IM: Then would you believe the ACTUAL reason why I’m here is because it serves as a way to entertain your followers who actually do bother reading the descriptions of these commissions and that none of the interactions between us, your Genie Self or other OC’s are cannon in any way and shouldn’t be looked into two deeply?
Now that I do believe!
Artist is Shenanigma

So I have a theory about the Splatoon 3’s DLC:
Given we got the silhouettes of Pearl and Marina, it’ll involve OtH and their new Group, Damp Socks.
From what we currently know via the Splatoon JP and SRL twitters, OtH is currently on a world tour of sorts, recruiting musicians to tour with, as well as touring with their own band. My theory is that the DLC will be along the lines of Rock Band’s “Band World Tour” story mode.
For those not familiar with the game “Rock Band”, it’s story mode has your character join a band (or in the case of RB2-4, form a band) with 3 other characters. They start off performing a couple gigs in their hometown, only to be approached by a band to perform in a gig as a running act to their concert. From there you travel cross country to perform various gigs, participate in what is called “endless playlists” and occasionally participate in a “Battle of the Bands” style gig, while also getting recruited by other bands and musicians to perform with around the world. It’s likely the DLC will play out in a similar way, with your character joining a band (likely run by Agent 4, 8, and a newcomer of somekind to their group), and performing gigs in Inkopolis and Splatsville before getting discovered by OtH and joining them on their World Tour. It’s likely we’ll get to tour with the other groups in the game’s universe (such as Chirpy Chips, Bottom Feeders, Hightide Era, etc.) as well as doing major tours with the Squid Sisters, OtH and Deep Cut.
The Soundtrack will offer music spanning all three Splatoon games, as well as other Nintendo franchises (such as Animal Crossing, LoZ, etc.) and span different genre’s as well. The DLC would delve further into the band and musician lore, would expand upon world building elements and act as a potential spin-off offering of sorts to expand upon Splatoon as a series. It would also likely replace its predecessor, the Ika Radio minigame, familiar to veterans of the Splatoon series.
As for what we may see in terms of peripherals, it’s likely the amiibo could unlock other songs (particularly the Squid Sisters, OtH, Deep Cut and DLC centric amiibo figures), and offer an option similar to both Taiko No Tatsujin and Rock Band, utilizing an instrument peripheral or using the controllers.

It’s June!
Happy Pride! And happy ARMS’ anniversary month! I decided to do something a little special and write a post about:
1.) Why I genuinely believe ARMS could receive a sequel
In a separate post later this week, I’d like to write about what I want to see in a sequel specifically too! Please remember this is all personal opinion and speculation based off my own information and interpretations of data and events in ARMS lifetime. It’s okay to disagree with me! I’m just a lil nerd on the internet hoping to see Min Min again ^^
And thanks to everyone who sees this for supporting me and this blog for a little over 5 years now. It means more to me than I can express it. Here’s to hoping we get a sequel announcement soon especially given what month it is!
Hey! Thanks for taking the time to read this. Let’s get right down to business as to why I believe ARMS could honestly receive a sequel:
#1: Time!
It’s been nearly 5 full years since ARMS’ release. The game had so much potential and sold over 2 million copies! It had fairly high expectations considering it was a new IP and announced as part of the switch’s starting lineup, and now, it’s been around long enough where a sequel announcement would make sense. I think there was an interview years ago where Yabuki or another developer was asked about a sequel, and the response was something along the lines of, “It’s too soon to consider a sequel,” because the game wasn’t even 3 years old by that point. It’s, ofc, a much different story now though!
#2: Sales & Sale Comparisons
People always, always, always call ARMS a flop and a dead game. sigh. It’s a tale as old as time and I have literally been conditioned to never go through the ARMS tag on twitter or scroll into YT comments on an ARMS video because I already know people will be saying it’s dead, or it was bad, or Splatoon was better, etc. Firstly, Splatoon can’t be compared to ARMS considering that at the time of ARMS release, Splatoon was a RETURNING IP not a NEW IP and already had millions of fans waiting for it. Plus, like... They’re not even the same type of game. LMAO (Though this is not to shade Splatoon. I love the series and have played since it was on WII U. Very excited for Splatoon 3.)
Getting down to business though, by the end of 2020, ARMS had sold over 2 million copies. Not too bad for a brand new IP! And if we compare the numbers, it actually outsold a handful of other fairly popular Switch titles. Citing VG Chartz, as of today, ARMS has sold about 2.5 million copies. It performed best in North America, followed by Europe, and then Japan. Here’s a screenshot from Wikipedia citing other cool information regarding ARMS’ sales:
Tumblr media
Bonus: Accolades from Wikipedia as well:
Tumblr media
But getting down to comparisons,
Tumblr media
We can see ARMS outsold games such as Octopath Traveler and Xenoblade Chronicles 2, both of which are confirmed to be getting sequels of their own. All 3 of these awesome titles rank in the top 40 games of all time on the Switch. If they’re getting sequels, and Splatoon 2 (which dropped a month AFTER ARMS’ release) is getting its next game, it doesn’t seem too far-fetched to expect the same of ARMS.
#3: Smash!
As we all know, Min Min is our ARMS representative in Smash, and even has her own Amiibo now! Honestly, I really highly doubt Nintendo would’ve gone through the trouble of all that if they just wanted to let the series die out. Especially when we already had Spring Man as an assist trophy so it wasn’t like ARMS didn’t have ANYTHING in Smash, but they chose to go the extra mile of giving us a proper representative (who was, more or less, chosen by fans through party crashes and even got her own animation and official art for the occasion).
It just seems silly to me that they’d take that time to promote ARMS and Min Min as a whole new character if they really had no intention of taking ARMS any further at all. Same with the Amiibo-- why do all this effort for a series that won’t ever have any new content in the future? Nintendo is kind of known for creating these instances of hype and then letting them die down without capitalizing on them (ex. Min Min dropped in Smash, and then Nintendo went silent again. Or about 2 years ago there was a tournament held online and officially promoted by Nintendo out of nowhere and then they went silent again, etc). But combined with the above reasons, I think a sequel is more likely to happen now.
That’s all I have to say! Like I said, I’m just hopeful for a sequel and while I know we may not get one, I can dream. Thanks for reading!

ive made a few of these bingo sheets and theyre fun so i decided to make one not just for e3 but also JUST for splatoon 3 (not just for e3 but for like the whole lifetime of the game). also heres my updated list of characters id like to see in smash, ordered generally by which id like more and/or think are the most realistic
since min min got in i took out helix, and since i couldnt decide whether to add in waluigi or madeline i added another row (realistically i dont think any indies are getting in but i threw some in anyway). also i was like “oh yeah maybe theyd put in a gen viii pokemon” so i threw in hatterene since thats one of my favorites.
also as for waluigi (and shovel knight for that matter) i think it would be nice to see an assist trophy get in just to break that rule. also i remember being super surprised he wasnt in brawl (back then i thought he and wario were equally important) and even though that was based on a wrong impression ive still felt like he should be in there ever since
notes about the bingos under the cut
really is about time for those n64 games, especially now that mario is dead so theyre free to release sm64 on it. game boy games would be nice sometime too
would also make sense to include banjo-kazooie in that, nintendos had a good relationship with microsoft lately and the total absence of anything banjo-kazooie on the switch is odd since it’s a dlc character (every other one has a game on switch they can use for cross-marketing, even if joker’s took a while) and i think the best explanation for that would be that theyre holding off for the nso n64 app (this is easiest from a technical standpoint because all they have to do is make a deal to use the roms)
when are they putting octolings in mk8d
xenoblade chronicles x is one of the only wii u games left that they could port (aside from ones that wouldnt make much sense like splatoon and ssb4) so i guess that might as well happen sometime. also monolith soft might be doing something else besides helping with splatoon 3
im not ready for metroid prime 4 (im over halfway through mp2 and therefore the trilogy as a whole) but it’s been a while, they might show it and it could even come out this year
hal apparently recently hinted at a new kirby game or something
the upgraded switch is obviously going to be called the Nintendo Switch ͥ  since they already did the ds lite so theyre clearly naming everything in the family after the ds family, theres absolutely no flaw in this logic. idk if theyre showing it, but unlike 2019 they didnt say they werent showing new hardware (just that they were showing software, which could be taken as denying rumors, but they sometimes specify when certain things arent being shown)
metroid prime trilogy also might come this year. would make sense to release it before mp4 since not everyone is going to buy a wii u to get it (and at this point that doesnt get nintendo any money since they stopped making them)
where is detective pikachu 2. i hope it has the blue pikachu from that first tease they gave us in like 2014 (2013? that was a loooong time ago idk)
they said this was MOSTLY 2021 so i am absolutely getting my hopes up for splatoon 2
the two sinnoh games could likely be there
would be super cool if oddity came to switch. and almost as ironic as megalovania getting into smash
we havent seen the botw sequel for a couple years so we’re kind of due for an update on that
it’s ace attorney’s 20th anniversary this year so maybe theyre doing something. theyre already porting those games though so idk. maybe he’s getting in smash
whats with that watermelon mario render
i held off on watching a playthrough for ndrv3 on the off chance it came to switch and i could play a dangan ronpa game for real for once but it’s now been 4 years and we just passed the 10th anniversary of the series (albeit during a pandemic when i wouldnt expect them to have done anything) so it would be cool to see the series come to switch. i think if it still doesnt after this though i’ll just watch the playthrough, 4 years is long enough. amazed ive avoided spoilers this long, i still know next to nothing about the game
im about done with acnh but im still waiting on those splatoon items. and i ran out of storage in february so i need more of that too
nintendo did stuff for zelda’s 30th anniversary so i doubt theyre forgetting the 35th. maybe wwhd/tphd ports, idk
been a couple years since fire emblem, intelligent systems is probably up to something besides planning yet another paper mario spinoff
miyamoto forgot pikmin 4 in the oven 6 years ago and it got burnt to a crisp and thats why it hasnt come out yet because he had to start over
and splatoon
the inklings scared daft punk into quitting so now that theres no competition in the robot musician scene they should have a daft punk style group
i waited and waited and neither of my top two splatoon stages (flounder and d’alfonsino) came back in splatoon 2 so i hope just because splatoon 3 isnt in inkopolis doesnt mean they still wont return
would be sick as hell if there was a real hide and seek mode instead of just sticking to your own rules in private battles. havent played that since 2015 but it was super fun
show us the effects of the chaos world
i wanted mc craig to have a song in octo expansion and they didnt deliver. heres another chance
splatnet 3 baby
cant wait for nogami to do a funny 3 pose
abxy came back for splatoon 2.... am i gonna be that lucky again...?
salmon run doesnt make sense if youre friends with a smallfry but they could either change the story context (you just fight “evil” salmonids?) or replace it with an equally fun co-op mode
amiibo!!! i think i said this before but they should label them by weapons if these cephalopods dont have genders, would make more sense (the gendered ones had different weapons anyway)
returning characters!!!! would like to see everyone have a role of some kind
maybe #GearForAll wasnt successful in getting the emperor/spy/mecha gear, but perhaps theyll at least consider not making that stuff exclusive this time around
squid girl gear should be back. and they should call it a dress instead of a tunic because its a dress. and theres no gender now anyway
as ive said before... TRIPLIES!! you hold one in each hand and another in your mouth. and you can spin around like the tasmanian devil
remove splatfest tee annoyances: you should have a prompt at the end of a splatfest to pay to scrub your tee (to make sure you get the chunks) also it should be on a neutral brand so you dont end up with an overabundance of ink resistance up (or whatever else)
better online and cloud saves would certainly justify having a second splatoon game on the same console, as much as im loving that it exists
hopefully theres a global testfire again
sooner or later the workers will rise up and kill mr grizz
remember in splatoon 1 where if you had squid beatz (via the amiibo) you could “play” it in the lobby and change the music? then you were stuck listening to only bubble bath in splatoon 2? why did they take that option away they should bring it back
looking at those apartment buildings in the trailer i think it would be cool if you had your own room and could decorate it
an octavio redemption arc would be fun to see. in the manga he stole the zapfish because the octarians had an energy crisis, and in the end they worked out a deal to share the electricity

it’s irritating me that i have no place to put info on my really small ocs whom i haven’t draw yet so here’s an incomplete list. mild spoiler warning?
NIKOLAI: an inkling, same age and taller than soda prior to their growth spurt, though much trimmer. pine-green ink. long tentas cut flat and bound low. might be british cause i think it’d be funny, we’ll see. he doesn’t have a lot of muscle but he doesn’t need it, he was a bamboozler mk ii main, and one of the most proficient at that. soda recruited him for the charger courses/amiibo challenge (and called him nikky, which he hated) and sometime after he suddenly disappeared.
he’s your typical bad-tempered shounen rival, constantly looking severe and contemptuous. he Did not believe in rules but had a strong sense of justice and didn’t hesitate to put his foot down. incidentally, he also thinks the splatoon is stupid and fostering violence. this definitely, totally did not come back to bite him... but he had his reasons for joining. he never connected easily with other people after his older sister died (also under mysterious circumstances) and he wears her earrings still. he collected jewelry, most of it rose gold.
he’s in that weird half-developed limbo state where i have impressions of what i wanna do with him but nothing solid, woops. here’s his tag and pinterest and a couple songs i’ve got for him are What Did I Do?, Only One Not Smiling, and Puppet Loosely Strung (and others by other bands but these are the least spoilery, sobs)
JESSAMINE: soda’s handler or minder, or most accurately, babysitter. she doesn’t really manage or assign them but she does make sure they don’t break from their agency assignments too far---though she doesn’t have love for the systems that govern inkopolis either, so she lets soda slide a little farther than they should be able to. pink betta fish and appropriately stubborn and ready to pick a fight at all times, which is the only reason she can handle soda. gay, ambitious, takes no shit and begs no man pardon, and desperately lonely. she doesn’t know what life is like outside the agent business any better than soda does. still have a lot to do on her concept.
PHEE: agent eight, who despite having a full board and entire playlist is wildly underdeveloped. i still don’t know what pronouns work here so that’s fun. late 30s. phee is just out to freewheel and live a good life, not caring much for the octarians’ plight and octavio’s bad strategy but having no kindness for inklings, either. former elite, never vibed with it and had a reputation for rebelling; independent, self-possessed, and crafty. never formally defected and was marked missing. has some stuff to work through not limited to a midlife crisis and finding out that perry showing up like ‘phee, i’m YOUR WIFE’, but that all happens far outside soda’s sphere of influence so i haven’t thought about it much WOOPS.
LEIT: cut from perry. 19. biotechnician, works in the farm domes. short, chopped up, dark tentas. loves his mom a lot---he took a lot from her mechanic prowess, but never felt suited to the military, and hated to see how agent three’s victories took a toll on her. wears NOTHING but black. wants nothing more than to see real rain and sky. in an effort to escape mounting stress he tries to get out through the domes and nearly gets sanitized, at which point soda rescues and rehabilitates him in their penthouse, and cue good ol’ opposites attract enemies to lovers plot cause i’m a SUCKER. he’s a pretty mundane character, loyal, doesn’t speak until spoken to. like half my characters are reserved and i have to come up with a different twist each time so we’ll see what his is!!!! same concept stage as jessa and phee for now.

Reference List for amiibo Fighter Names (Set 2)
13) Ganondorf : Going Alone - A reference to the start of the original Legend of Zelda, the good ol’ “IT’S DANGEROUS TO GO ALONE TAKE THIS!”  And the fact that, up to Smash 4, Ganondorf did not use his sword, despite clearly having one in his victory poses from Melee.  Many jokes were of course made about this, this is one of them.  Granted, now that he HAS his sword in Ultimate, this one’s a bit outdated, so might have to see if this one needs a revamp.  I’d still be using the Smash 4 visual style though since alas, we didn’t get an updated amiibo figure for him of his OoT style.
14) Greninja : Kerobusa - A play on kero, Japanese for the sound a frog makes, and Hayabusa, the last name of Ryu Hayabusa, star of the Ninja Gaiden series.  I wanted to parody the cutscene from the original Ninja Gaiden where Ryu is standing on a cliffside, overlooking the tower of the big bad, Jacquio.  Given Greninja was introduced in the Kalos games, I subbed in Lumiose City and its prominent central tower for the scenery.  The writing on the nameplate is from the title screen of the original Ninja Gaiden.
15) Ice Climbers : ParkaPower - Not really any sort of major reference here, I mostly stuck to the source game for this one, and just referenced that they wear parkas.  Because dangit, their parkas are adorable.  A notable difference between my version and Neo’s, he used the seal version of the normal enemy from Ice Climber, whereas I used the Topi as it’s what I was more used to.
16) Ike : SluggaBeef - This name actually came from WanStan, who donated this particular amiibo to me.  Back with the earlier amiibos, I offered an incentive for anyone who donated a Smash amiibo to allow them to name the character, and they were the only one who donated a figure and actually took me up on that offer.  Their idea was essentially just how he swings his sword with the power of a baseball bat for some hefty hits, so we played around with the idea and went with making a full-on baseball card out of it.  The 24 refers to the release number of his amiibo.
17) Jigglypuff : J-Pop - A reference to j-pop style music, and well, the fact that her name starts with a J.  And she’s a balloon, so those can pop.  Multi leveled references!  This was actually the first card I drew for the project.  I originally asked Neo if he could just like, polish up my drawings with better colors and shading, and he surprised me by going full tilt and making his own version of my rough sketch.  And thus the project was born.  This went through some various bits of retooling, such as the Love Ball being replaced with a Fairy Energy symbol on the nameplate, and also revising her hairstyle a bit.
18) Kirby : dyson - Dyson, much like Kirby, is actually a brand of vacuum cleaner.  Dyson’s commercials were famous for the designer being shown working on blueprints, saying things like “I just think vacuums should work properly,” things like that.  Since it’s his most powerful vacuum power to date, I put in a Hypernova plant on his desk.
19) Link : HeroOfAges - While a little outdated visually since we now have BotW Link as the Smash rep, again, we’re in that impasse where we didn’t get a BotW style Link amiibo specifically for Smash.  So he’s still got his Smash 4 look here.  With this one, I just wanted to reference the various Links and LoZ games throughout time.  So here we have referenced Ocarina of Time (Ocarina itself), Link to the Past (Magic Mirror), Link Between Worlds (Ravio’s bracelet), Twilight Princess (Fused Shadow), Hyrule Warriors (Link’s scarf), Skyward Sword (Beetle), the original Legend of Zelda (8-bit Wooden Sword), and the Oracles games (Harp of Ages).  Neo added some extra details on each reference as well.
20) Little Mac : Jr.Whopper - Basically just a play on, if Little Mac is to Big Mac, what would you call the Whopper equivalent?  Burger King for a long while was my go-to for fast food, though these days I probably prefer Sonic.  Still, the joke was too good to pass up.  Still amused Neo snuck the actual Burger King “King” mascot on there on his version, haha.  I have no idea why I had so much trouble drawing Little Mac’s hair, I was probably way overthinking it...
21) Lucario : AttackTurn - Yu-Gi-Oh! is one TCG I have a tendency to return to every now and again.  Given the Egyptian theming it has, it seemed a good fit for Lucario, who has an Anubis kind of feel to him visually.  Thus I set about trying to find a card that made sense as a reference to how Lucario works.  “Psychic Blade” was the best I could find.  You equip it to a monster, then pay life points in multiples of 100, up to a max of 2000.  The equipped monster then gains that much Attack and Defense.  Thus, somewhat similar to the concept of Lucario’s aura, as he gains more attack power the more damage he’s taken.  For the final card, we changed the name to “Aura of Psychic Blade” to more reference his aura.  Neo added a lot of clever references in the “card info” parts of this one, such as having the Pokémon artist shown as the illustrator, a card number referencing the Hoenn games where Lucario originated, all nice little easter eggs.
22) Lucas : Tomato Kid - Given the long time wait for an official localization of Mother 3 (I forget, DID one ever get announced?), fans took it upon themselves to make their own translation.  One of the more prominent ones I’d heard about was done by someone going by Tomato.  And thus, since in Earthbound we had Orange Kid and Apple Kid, we now have Tomato Kid.  There’s not too much else to detail here.  I literally copied a screenshot of Mother 3 pixel by pixel in Visio Home for this.  I couldn’t resist having the frog in the car, it’s just too weirdly cute.
23) Lucina : #FixFate - I admittedly don’t have a whole lot of Fire Emblem knowledge, so I had to just go with what references I could pull from.  Lucina’s game came out fairly close to around the same time as that Fire Emblem / SMT crossover type game.  Tokyo Mirage Sessions I think it was?  All I really knew about it was some of the visual style of the colored shadows walking around.  Given Lucina does have some time travel elements to her, going through time to fix her family’s past, her being in modern day Shibuya and texting on a smartphone doesn’t seem too out of the question... (okay it probably totally is but work with me here).  I snuck in a Persona 4 reference with the Calorie Magic ad, as well as a more general SMT reference with the Jack Frost phone charm.  Neo suggested adding a Splatoon ad in the background on the Shibuya tower.
24) Luigi : ReaL2401 - This is a reference to a big ol’ rumor inducing message people claimed to see on the star statue in the back garden of Peach’s castle in Super Mario 64.  Supposedly, the plaque on it said “L is Real 2401.”  People thought it was a hint to Luigi existing somewhere in the game.  Later, more well defined images showed the plaque to just likely say “Eternal Star.”  So I had the idea of Luigi leaving the message as a graffiti tag.

ACNH DIRECT RECAP 2/20/2020
There was an animal crossing: new horizons direct today! Here’s the biggest hits from it! Also, this post is very, very long and very in-depth (i spent well over an hour on it) so there is a cut in the beginning to save your dashboard!
btw you can watch the direct for yourself here. And if you enjoy this recap, you might want to join my animal crossing discord server!
Tumblr media
First of all, you can pick your island (and further customise the terrain but I’ll get to that later)
Tumblr media
And you can pick the northern or southern hemisphere! You’ll be able to experience all four seasons regardless of your pick!
Tumblr media
You start off with two villagers! You then get an orientation from Tom Nook, Timmy, and Tommy!
Tumblr media
You can pick where your villagers live!!! You can also see the borders of how much space the tents will take up.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
BTW we’re only four minutes in to a 27 minute presentation so click the “keep reading”  to see the whole recap!
Facilities
The plaza (the leaf on the map) has Resident Services, which is run by the nooks to provide, well, basic services. They sell tools, flowers, and medicine for wasps! There’s also a crafting table to make more stuff! And it’s open 24/7!!!

As a Pallet cleanser...
I’ve posted a bit to much Meat. And so before I dive on in to Candy, which, from the impressions I’ve gathered, contains terrors greater than those found in meat, I’ll be providing some ‘Candy’ of my own, hopefully in a form reminiscent of thin mint cookies.
I’ll be making as wholesome, happy, and generally carefree a post as I can possibly make.
I’m going to be BluHing out my thoughts and ideas for things I would Hope for, dream of, and expect to possibly see in various percentages of those three of-
Animal Crossing.
As Animal Crossing has progressed through the Years, more and more chances for Player agency to influence the world have come to be. even going so far as to give you an official government job where you help to plan/fund Public infrastructure & The Arts. An update was even added at one point that would let you have more control over what Villagers were in your town; something practically impossible in past games, & in the pre-update New-Leaf.
I expect this trend to continue, though how it continues may vary; my Hopes for the hypothetically possible, & Dreams for the incredibly unlikely as follows.
Furniture Creation; it can be tricky getting that last piece of a set that just never seems to be in stock. but if you had a way to get furniture pieces that are not in your catalog, such randomness would be relieved… There’s even already ways to change some pre-existing pieces of furniture by bringing it and a set of gems to an npc in retail… severely limited in that form, but… a definite precursor to being able to get the furniture you want by using resources you have. and while it is a spin off I know little about, I believe Pocket Camp actually Does have a more tangible form of ‘crafting’. it even has an official Quarry to dig in.
extensions on the new ‘burst collection’ mechanic introduced in Pocket Camp; Pocket camp introduced items such as fishing nets and honey for gathering fish and bugs faster than one could with a rod or bug net. in a new game without micro transactions, a number of things could be done to balance the effectiveness, cost, and availability of items that help make it easier to get things; like rotted turnips & candy attracting ants, but elaborated upon.
improved mail system; just a little thing here. maybe a Villager you had been best friends with, but who had to move away, could send you a postcard inviting you to visit, should you ever wish to do so, with a Picture of their new town on it.
Food options; even if they are as useless as eating has always been, more options would be nice. like actually getting to partake in the displays that appear on some holidays, or being able to actually eat some pudding, like what some Villagers claim to have accidentally eaten 23 servings of from time to time… And hey, if some villagers have favorite foods, getting it for them could be a nice thing to do. maybe going to Brewsters could serve a purpose other than buying coffee till you’re given access to Gyroid storage, or working a small, part-time job.
semi-open world feel; even if it’s just an illusion, it would be groundbreaking for The Flanking Cliffs to finally give way to nature. even if the Cliffs are just sometimes replaced by massive clusters of impassible, unchopable trees that serve the same purpose. a tiny bit of variety in world wall could help. but full, low restriction openness is the dream… maybe have rivers a little bit wider than most, that you could eventually make crossable with foot-Bridges…(trains and such have their own bridges already of course, so you can still take the train to new places) … you know what? yea… Building Bridges… uniting the World… I like that. from now on, my hypothetical Animal Crossing game will be called ‘Animal Crossing Bridge Builders’.
Wood?/new tree mechanics?; the Ax is one of the least used tools. and once you’ve got the trees you want exactly where you want them, it begins to feel like Time slows down… The World only changing when you or villagers make it change, or with the seasons. a bit more of a purpose to trees could be an incentive to experiment, or to pay more attention to The World, as you watch new saplings grow far more frequently than you ever did when planting new trees was a one-off aesthetic setup. Plus, if furniture crafting does become a thing, you got to get materials somewhere.
‘More’; exactly as it says on the tin. More fruit types, more tree types, more Villagers… a simple expectation, but one worth note.
extend on the mining thing from pocket camp?; I’m mostly thinking of this for the sake of a single gag… The mining place underground is randomly generated once a week or so… And poor Mr. Resetti… Another job change has resulted in them being tasked with helping facilitate the process that… Resets, the underground so that you’ll always have fresh access to the resources you need.
(huh… food, crafting, fishing, foraging, mining… this is starting to become more and more like Stardew Valley, only without an official farmland)
Balloon Presents; you ever wonder where those balloons come from? maybe you could give something back. Perhaps you could release things up into the air, where someone, somewhere will eventually get it.
‘Island Search’; an excuse for the ability to Design, shape and all, your very own island. after all, the Ocean is so big, that of course you’ll end up finding an island that matches what you want. The ultimate in Player agency over control over their environment; such as also being able to send invitations, or approve applications for Villagers so that they can come and live on your island. and, depending on how ‘north or south’ your island is, the seasons may pass normally, seem to always be summer, or so on.
non-real-time option; this is likely a dream that would be divisive. Real-time has always been a staple of the series. a mechanic that always has been. Well, like what was done with Breath of The Wild, even the most fundamental core aspects of the series should be open to revision and review, to see if it really is the best possible option. What if sleeping in your Bed could actually pass time? what if you didn’t have to be caught in a cycle of only being able play for however long it takes you to find the ore & money rocks, the new buried objects, and such, before the majority of everything new in the world that day has been expended, leaving the chance for you to stale the remaining time you play by running through pre-treaded ground, or for you to simply skip time anyway and change the date to, for example, see if what you want in the store or such shows up. (the ability for the gameplay loop to avoid turning stale could also be avoided with any other number of changes that could be implemented) this is just a possibility worth keeping in mind. also, next, as a possible middle ground that could help branch the two different time options…
Live events; like how Splatoon has Splatfests, and Smash has select Spirit events, there could be special happenings that follow a Real-realtime structure. like, ‘all furniture you’ll find by shaking trees will match your favorite Color this week!’ or, ‘manta-ray migration! the Villagers are going to be celebrating this event as they would a holiday sometime this week’(perhaps on the first available in-game day you play that week, so that it isn’t restricted to only a 24 hour window that some people would be more likely to miss)
more Amiibo Villagers; this might fall under ‘more’, but wouldn’t it be amazing if a majority of the amiibo released had villagers associated with them? I for one, would love to have an Octopus Guardian Villager Friend.
better character creation; the game has partially approached this, with things like beak accessories, but, what if you could be an animal like the other Villagers? And, perhaps, if you opt-in to this, The game could eventually Generate an Npc version of your Animal based on various actions and interactions the game slowly gathers as you play. An Npc that could then be found by other Players in their Worlds. so that there is always a new face to meet… there is a lot of variables here, and naturally, it would need to be monitored to prevent those with unkind intent from tainting the world, but if the game could Generate new Villagers, rather than being limited to a set of pre-made Villagers that would seem to be a drop in the bucket by comparison… and for you to know that the character you’ve met, who is kind and friendly to some degree, was created based off of a Person in the real World who is not all that different from you? To have a Worldwide Community of People able to see that no matter who you are, or where you come from, that you can be kind? That we can learn to love eachother, both despite and because of our differences? …
I’m not going to say it could lead to World Peace, but I won’t say that it won’t lead to World Peace.
Sable; ‘oh Hello! How are you doing today? My sisters can help you if you wanted to buy something, but if you wanted to make something yourself, I could help you figure it out’
Years of countless Players sharing their Love and support for Sable has grown into a warm feeling she will always have with her in her Heart… She will Never doubt herself or her value as a person ever again… And if you still choose to talk to her every day, She will still want to be your Friend.
Permanence vs drifting; It is nice to work hard, and make something of the town you live in… Developing bonds with your Villagers… Till you know every bump, crack, and turn in it… till it becomes Home… But, more and more traveler elements have been introduced… Campers, and mobile homes. even the towns of other players accessed through your dreams. Perhaps you could explore the world, like the Villagers who visit your town are, ready to see who you might meet, and what you might see… and who knows… maybe one day, you’ll stop. You’ll look around. You’ll feel the cool air against your skin. You’ll see the sun start to set beyond the mountaintop. You’ll sit by the campfire, and see smiles on faces… and just maybe… After how long it has taken you to reach this moment… You might decide…
That you are, right now, exactly where you want to be…
That you’ve finally made it Home.

💻 🔊 👥 💡 ✌️ ❗️ ✨ (Sorry if it's a lot..^^').
Oh ho ho! Not at all! Let’s see:
💻: when did you start playing?Oooh, I started by the time Eat vs Sleep Splatfest was just about to start!
Tumblr media
Thing was the game was coming out and my Sis said she’d buy it for me, time after my birthday she forgot about it so I had to buy it myself xD
🔊: how did you hear about splatoon?Funny enough it wasn’t from E3, it was from “Know your Meme” and everyone was having flashbacks to Nickelodeon, myself included xP
👥: do you have any ocs?I do! but I rarely bring them up, they’re named after each of my Amiibos, you got Peach, Plum and Pear, Berry, Citrus and Grape, and finally the Octopie bunch, Cherry, Rhubarb and Cranberry…good names I know….
💡: do you have any headcanons?I like to think that all the agents are pretty good friends and have secret meet ups to catch up on what’s been happening (and I’m pretty sure one day Marina’s gonna move her table to the side to propose to Pearl but that’s a silly little headcanon)
✌️: do you have a team? One time at the MCM expo I did, our team was called Calamari Carnage, we beat the first team only to loose against the next (who I’m pretty dang sure was Team Mako under another name…) but we only did it once for fun xP
❗️: anything in the game that surprised you?THAT FINAL BOSS IN OE! I did not expect to go against something that huge (and to fall into the water on my first run TvT )
✨: what do you hope to see in the future?Maybe some new hairstyles, new pants for everyone, and hoping we’re not getting a Pearl vs Marina splatfest, I don’t want a repeat of what happened in Splatoon1!

Day 228
woke up at like 818 and got to work at 850 so yeah I was dead tired. I was feeling that way the entire morning up until the middle of my on point check in where I went to get some kind of caffeine. Ethan walked in and was in the break room and when I talked about caffeine he offered me a K-Cup. Future me will most likely be the same when he reads this but I don’t drink coffee (even tho I had a latte yesterday) and yeah I took two trips to drink it, first trip was like a fourth of it and the second trip I downed it and bc of that I was not feeling good at all. I felt jittery and not good up until my lunch (2nd block was queue which wasn’t much to talking about besides me and lynda tag teaming a face id not working with mostly unresponsive display and trying to swap it since it was a 12 and needed face id diagnostics ran) which I went home and tried to feel better by eating and drinking water. I ate the leftover porkchop I made with a cheese roll and one bag of mama’s noodles and a bottle of water and that actually did the trick. So yeah I came back and was on queue, not too much besides Ashlie shadowing over like 2 or 3 appts for coach connections which was pretty chill. Last block was on point match up which was usual, last 40ish minutes was just me by myself on check in which actually wasn’t too bad either. Walked out with Madison and Crystal and then after I went straight to Adam’s house. He said he had some amiibos to give away so yeah I went there and picked them up. The only smash amiibo was a ganondorf one so I couldn’t complain, the rest were splatoon, BOTW, and a silver mario amiibo. Went back to my parents and helped my bro take in a coffee table from a neighbor. He also took the BOTW amiibos from me and then we had dinner w/ Augusta (i’m assuming she’ll be there every time now?). We had the taiwanese beef noodle soup and lumpia which was good, I ate like 4 lumpias and one big bowl of beef noodle soup (which I took some leftover home and some chili oil from my dad). We just sat a little hanging out until it started to drizzle so they had to leave cause coffee table. I left with them and went home. I sat for a little trying to figure out some bots for my discord and then Madison called me pretty much crying. There was a spider on her floor which she couldn’t kill so she was trying to figure out what to do. After thinking through, I mentioned calling emergency maintenance so she tried to do that which they didn’t call throughout the whole night. So yeah I pulled through with a broom and by the time I got there the spider was GONE. So yeah we sat around for like 30 minutes seeing if it would come out and it didn’t. But Madison was having fly problems so she asked to go to walmart so why the fuck not. She got a fly swatter and she bought me the minimalistic uno and coffee cakes lol. After we went to krispy kreme cause I had a dozen for free for my birthday so yeah I got those. We went back and we immediately looked for it and couldn’t find it. We were just lollygagging around and Madison spotted it near her bathroom. So yeah after debating how I should go about killing it (there was a lot of doors it could’ve ran through and actually it did run through a door but could spot it easily) I was able to do it by baiting it with a broom and smacking it as it ran away. So yeah fun times and we chilled a bit more and then we went our separate ways. went home and yeah here I am. I’ve been chillin’ a bit but it’s 1229 now and I’m gonna be up a little bit longer then go to sleep

@peanutters replied to your post: “@peanutters replied to your post: “hey uuuuh miniature painting is...”:
O nasty but understandable about the residue And thats why i have multiple things going at once (thank u msc 30min wait time)
hah i wish i had more space. i do have a few things happenin’ right now though-- gonna work on a couple needlefelts and also a needlefelt of my fur/feather-sona? which i want to do Really Good Wings for, which requires some research and so on. but those aren’t super great for quick jaunts between drying paint.
also i’m vaguely afraid that my current energy bubble will burst and i’ll just be left with more unfinished projects BUT i work on telling myself that it’s for fun anyway so who the fuck cares if i have unfinished projects (aside from myself, having to hold onto projects i’ve already spent hours and dollars on and therefore keep around because i can’t bear to throw them out)
but man i haven’t had this much creative energy in... years? i keep remembering projects on my backburner and having to tell myself “well, katherine, you could do that but you have other things you want to work on right now and you can do that later.” plus new ideas and inspirations competing, though those are a bit rarer since idea creation is a bit like a muscle.
in the past week or so, ideas i’ve recalled/come up with that i’ve wanted to start/restart, many of which i haven’t thought about in years:
my book-librarian dress that i’ve made one of two custom fabric patterns for already
my crystal skeleton repaint/mod of skelita from monster high (currently done with the sculpt and part of a base coat)
a needlefelt Garnet because she’s my Favorite
over four paintings that i have unfinished, but when i tried to work on one i was immediately discouraged because i was never that great at painting, but i still want to try again sometime soonish
this is why i started art again with a needlefelt Mae-- i was certain that i could do it well. at least i know when i need a confidence boost lmao. PLUS it got some people interested in my nitw vector commissions again even though i wasn’t expecting that
my various lego d&d projects
my intricately planned out toothiana cosplay, which will involve probably hundreds of dollars of two-tone tulle and individually cut out feathers with optionally a sewn-in wire ‘vein’ made of multiple layers of tulle each in order to achieve her natural hummingbird gradient effect + give the longer feathers some posability
re-tooling my bulbabackpack design for more replicability so i can sell it
potentially as a purse
re-setting up my sticker printing projects
my plan to needlefelt a life-sized alien Stitch because??? WHO WOULDN’T WANT THAT
my plan to make a life-size secretary bird because they’re Awesome and basically a Modern Raptor???? fuck yea
any number of poorly-thought-out Lesbian Webcomic ideas
a videogame wherein you are a yarn creature who learns how to knit themselves into different forms Unlocking Abilities. platformer/puzzler for all ages
a videogame where you are a colony of bees and/or a specific bee caught up in hive and intra-hive politics. potentially post-apocalyptic where the bees are discovering how to interpret human language and technology? maybe post-human solar punk earth setting, because a traditional “everyone died and you’re the only intelligent things left” is too fucking tired. plus also hatoful boyfriend did it pretty well already, not sure if i can add to that
of course my amiibo mods, of my splatoon main gal and knight!peach
uuuuh my desire to introduce resin casted parts into my needlefelt creations
the general desire to learn how to sculpt+mold ball jointed dolls
the general desire to learn metalworking
soldering for techy repair stuff
more extensive training to create better frameworks for my needlefelt stuff
my extensive pokemon quiz idea that requires webscraping code i don’t want to deal with
.... and that’s just in the LAST WEEK
I’ve had more creative, constructive, and social impulses in the past seven days than I’ve had in the PAST SEVEN MONTHS
this is how my LIFE USED TO BE LIKE!!! i wanna keep it this way!!!!!!!!
The other thing is right now I’m in a good spot of balancing these impulses with my rational, don’t-spend-too-much-money side; I can’t tell for certain why but I know when I’m depressed I’ll be excited for projects that require a lot of new equipment and skills I’ve barely used previously.  But in reality, what this means is I spend money and don’t do projects when I’m depressed. (That’s how I ended up with my big “I’ll make stickers!” plan that will probably never pan out, even if the profit margin can be stupid high. I didn’t realize that I a.] don’t draw things that lend themselves to stickers and b.] that an in-home inkjet press was going to create less durable stickers than you can get from, say, Redbubble. And I spent like 500 bucks on a printer and a papercutter for that... though I do plan on using the papercutter anyway for unrelated projects and the printer was a purchase I wanted to make anyway.)
The realistic thing to do is to work on projects with what I have or small test kits, and then upgrade more as I become more familiar and desire better tools for the work I’m already doing. A tablet does not a digital artist make, but it can certainly make a digital artist’s workflow much easier.
Anyway right now I am cautiously optimistic about life and h---FUCK I FORGOT TO RETURN THE CALL FROM THE PSYCH OFFICE AUGH.
i am putting a sticky note on my phone now. fuck

E3 2017: A Nintendo Fan's Perspective
As a Nintendo enthusiast, it was hard for me to not walk out of E3 2017 with a huge smile on my face. Which of the big three first-party publishers came out of the show the winner is largely a matter of preference, but there's no question that Nintendo stood out from the crowd and delivered its own brand of unique, colorful fun at a show where many triple-A games were cut from the same cloth. And I think a lot of players would agree, judging by the number of people I heard singing, humming, or whistling the ridiculous yet infectious "1-up Girl" song from Super Mario Odyssey as they left the hall on the final day of the show.
Unlike last year's E3, where Nintendo put all its virtual eggs in one basket with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, this time Nintendo was firing on all cylinders with big franchises, expected sequels, and shocking surprises. Most third parties aren't yet embracing the Switch despite its success, but there should still be enough first-party games to keep players satisfied for the foreseeable future. For both Switch and 3DS, this is a clear case of quality over quantity. Still, between what was on the show floor, shown on video, or announced in conjunction with E3, there was a lot to get excited about, but to narrow the focus a bit, I present to you my personal top 10 favorite Nintendo-related things I encountered at this year's show.
10. Splatoon 2 (Switch)
Tumblr media
Splatoon 2 doesn't stray too far from the formula established by the original, but that's not a bad thing. I'm not the biggest fan of competitive shooters, but the cooperative Salmon Run mode looks like just what I've asked for, and the single-player mode grabbed me as soon as soon as I saw the ability to zip around using ride rails.
9. Shantae: Half-Genie Hero - Pirate Queen's Quest (Switch)
Tumblr media
I absolutely loved WayForward's Shantae: Half-Genie Hero on both Wii U and Switch, and it looks like I'm going to fall in love all over again with the upcoming Pirate Queen's Quest DLC that lets you play as the villainess, Risky Boots. It features the same type of gorgeous, fluid action, but with modified levels, new attacks and abilities (like a grappling hook), new enemies, and a new upgrade system. Though this mode is paid DLC, Kickstarter backers will get it for free, plus it will apparently be included in the upcoming physical Switch release from XSEED Games.
8. Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology (3DS)
Tumblr media
The original Radiant Historia on DS is a hidden gem of an RPG, and I'm thrilled to see that this enhanced version is making its way to North America. The time-defying story and gameplay - which sees you jumping between alternate timelines - separates this from other JRPGs, and new art and scenario elements make this edition even more enticing.
7. Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions (3DS)
Tumblr media
The original Mario & Luigi game is arguably still the best in the series, and now it's back with a fresh coat of paint. The fantastic writing and excellent timing-based gameplay have made their way from the GBA version virtually unchanged, but the graphics are far more detailed this time (although whether that's a good or bad is a matter of opinion). Also included is a brand-new mode where you play as the bad guys - led by Captain Goomba - and try to track down your boss, Bowser.
6. Fire Emblem Warriors (Switch)
Tumblr media
I've long thought that Fire Emblem was a perfect fit for a Warriors title, and after going hands-on with Fire Emblem Warriors, I'm further convinced it was a good idea. The gameplay is exactly what you'd expect - you slice through hundreds of enemy soldiers while controlling a variety of heroes from past Fire Emblem games - and like in the 3DS version of Hyrule Warriors, you can quickly jump from hero to hero for advantageous positioning on the battlefield.
5. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (Switch)
Tumblr media
Though not playable on the show floor, the videos and presentation shown on Xenoblade Chronicles 2 make it one of my most-anticipated Switch titles. The world is vast, the combat system is suitably deep, and the anime inspiration runs high. I'm very intrigued by protagonists Rex and Pyra and they're quest to reach the land of Elysium, as well as the strange, beautiful world set atop continent-sized loving creatures called Titans.
4. New Amiibo
Tumblr media
Between Mario, Zelda, Metroid, and Fire Emblem, 13 of Nintendo's biggest characters are being beautifully rendered in new plastic figurine form. All of them look great in my opinion, but I'm probably most excited about the Metroid, the four champions from Breath of the Wild (Mipha, Revali, Daruk, and Urbosa) and Bowser in a tuxedo, because it's BOWSER IN A TUXEDO.
3. Metroid Prime 4 (Switch) & Metroid: Samus Returns (3DS)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There's not much I wanted more out of this year's E3 than a new Metroid announcement, and we got not one but two of 'em. Metroid Prime 4 was little more than a logo and a promise for sometime in the future, but Metroid: Samus Returns is an extensive stereoscopic 3D remake of Metroid II: Return of Samus, and it's only a few months away. As excited as I am, I remain cautious about both titles: Prime 4 is being handled by a new dev team rather than Retro Studios, and Samus Returns is being developed by Mercury Steam, the team known for disappointing many fans with its take on Castlevania. Still, things are looking quite promising so far.
2. Sonic Mania (Switch)
Tumblr media
The more I play of Sonic Mania on Switch, the more I like it. The developer's love of the franchise is clearly evident, as the game highlights both platforming and all-out speed like the series was known for in its glory days. Visually, the game is neon-drenched sensory overload in the best way possible, and the ability to play as Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles lets you discover alternate routes with the characters' individual abilities. This doesn't simply play like classic Sonic; this is the realization of old-school Sonic that only exists in our rose-tinted memories.
1. Super Mario Odyssey (Switch)
Tumblr media
This was the game I most wanted to experience at this year's E3, and it did not disappoint. Odyssey seems to have it all: dinosaurs with mustaches, the ability to wear a sombrero, evil bunny rabbits, seamless shifts between 2D and 3D action, and, yes, Bowser in a tux. And that's on top of the traditional Mario platforming and collecting, and his newfound ability to possess NPCs, enemies, and objects. There's so much to see and do in each level, the 10-minute demos at the show flew by like they were nothing, and I can't wait to play more. I only hope there's a non-motion-controlled option for Mario's spin attack!

Splatoon 2: Ready, Set, Ink! Tournament - A Memoir
Following the events of Ink Your Heart Out!, the organisers of Splatoon Community Malaysia hosted another tournament with the ambitions of raising awareness for Splatoon 2, promoting the growth of e-sport, and attracting Nintendo’s attention on the existence of SEA community.
Ready, Set, Ink! was the first tournament that includes the four currently-existing ranked modes: Splat Zones, Tower Control, Rainmaker, and Clam Blitz, with Turf War as a tie-breaker. The categories included were ones that require a higher level of strategy, team synergy and personal skills for higher chance of victory.
The four modes are as follows (extracted from Inkpedia):
Splat Zone (SZ) - Plays similarly to the King of the Hill mode from other video games. It revolves around a central "zone" or "zones", which players must attempt to cover in ink. Whoever retains the zone for a certain amount of time wins.
Tower Control (TC) - A player must take control of a tower located in the center of a map and ride it towards the enemy base. The first team to get the tower to their enemy's base wins.
Rainmaker (RM) - A player must grab and take the Rainmaker weapon to a pedestal near the enemy team's spawn point. The team who carries the Rainmaker furthest towards their respective pedestal wins.
Clam Blitz (CB) - Players pick up clams scattered around the stage and bring them to the goal. (It’s more complex than it sounds)
As Fate would have it, my old team decided to get together to give this tournament a try. This resulted in another long memorable journey that would now be eternalise here.
0) Team Members
louhai - The captain of the team. His passion for Ink Brush is unwavering. Like a shounen hero, he is always eager to fight strong opponents as it motivates him to improve his combat skills (and forces him to reflect if he’d done wrong). A social butterfly who has a hand in empowering the community to participate the tournament.
Furidomu - Resident slayer of our team, the no-longer-lonesome wolf continues to bless us kills with her existence. Her action speaks louder than words, and she is highly determined. She remains a strong pillar of our group. Uses Dapple Dualies, Tri-Slosher and Clash Blaster.
slap - No longer a captain, but he becomes surprisingly crucial with his mid-range/long-range skills. Still has the tendency to emo in the corner, but develops a form of hardcore streak during the journey (thanks to Leaf’s absence). Dabbles in Dynamo Roller before returning to his beloved Splattershot Pro.
Leaf - Formerly known as Low, he remains a skilled Dualies user. A companion we trust to fight by our side. In this tournament, however, he is half-retired and prefers to remain as a substitute. Shares his knowledge when needed.
Kuniki - New addition to the team, but definitely not a stranger. His performance is determined by his “battle mode”, and he fights like a whirlwind incarnated. A veteran Splatoon 1 player who is also our resident artist. Master in Dapple Dualies, but uses Tri-Slosher when needed.
And then, there’s lil ol’ me. While I main Tri-slosher, I took up Rapid Blaster Pro and Heavy Splatling to cover my team’s weakness for long range. Like before, I played the mediator, grandmother, as well as the manager/trainer of the group.
1) Tofu Team’s Revival
It started when I found out that I still crave to ink and win, that I want to start a legacy of West Mountain Tofu team being the first victor in Malaysia tournaments.
It also started with Leaf’s procon broken, and we found out that the tournament’s prize are new procons.
Meanwhile, louhai and Furi were undecided on whether to form their own teams individually as to maintain that power balance.
So, when I suggested a revival, all immediately agree to it with much enthusiasm.
slap was the last one to get roped in. We knew he has a fickle heart for gaming, and this tournament would require much more dedication and hard work than before, so he was given time to consider and prepare himself.
(louhai sent in the registration form before he said yes, though.)
As such, West Mountain Tofu team was back into business!
2) Planning the Path to Victory
It was agreed that everyone really wanted to win first prize, therefore everyone's here to win and our goals are aligned yet again!
However, herein lies the difficulty: in terms of personal skill, Tofu is potentially stronger than most of the existing, registered teams (as far as we know, anyways)... however, Tofu is not perfect and there were (and are) still many, MANY things to work on.
In my opinion, we needed a) a person who could give us solid advice, and b) a team that could challenge our skills.
a) a person who could give us solid advice
Tofu may be somewhat self-sustainable, with Leaf and I being the resident Splatoon 2 geeks and slap being well-read. However, it’s sometimes better to find someone with a more neutral and experienced view, especially considering that we don’t have much long range specialists and I was learning Rapid Blaster Pro. But where can we find that someone when everyone is potentially our foe?
The answer is simple: someone from overseas.
Or to be more precise, Rezizard.
During the last Malaysia Splatoon 2 Gathering, Rezi and I had a brief chat on his play history: he was a competitive battler who decided to retire and found more joy in organising and coaching.
An experienced eye was what we need! With that in mind, I invited him to watch our battles with the expectation that he would give us a summary of what to fix and such.
What he gave in return far exceeded my expectations: multiple videos of our matches with full blown analysis of what went right, what went wrong and gear checks:
(The following videos covered mainly Clam Blitz and long range positioning tips:)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gN1fYDCQpw0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hD_8Xxuv9AE His videos painted a clear picture, and opinions and analysis were well-received. His drawings were received with some playful snarks from Leaf, and some of his words were even memefied (“No more chargers”). It was overall an educational and enjoyable watch.
b) a team that could challenge our skills
A scrim is what Splatoon competitive players called a serious practice match between players to hone and better their skills.
In my Oceanink experience, SOTONG team’s level were somewhat on par with Knife & Banana team. Their win rates increased enough to bump them to fourth place in Oceanink Division 4 after the inclusion of RayRay-- an Ink Brush user who was the inspiration for louhai to have picked his soul weapon. Therefore, I had invited them for a scrim in hopes that the “Inspiration” and the "Inspired” could meet together, and to make louhai’s flame burn brighter.
Unfortunately, RayRay could not make it, and the scrim became a bit of a joke when players started using themed weapons. This results Rezi being pissed because it defies how a scrim should be, louhai being sad for not being able to see RayRay, and my team being disappointed with the fact that opponents aren’t serious enough to match their passion.
In order to maintain Rezi’s attention and to get him further invested in our progress; in order to restore my team’s faith in international teams; I turned to another Singapore team: [ ] Nameless.
[ ] Nameless is a Division 3 team personally coached by Rezi. I remember this as Rezi had once invited MwS to battle Nameless, and it was quite a challenging and fulfilling experience. One of their members, NeoSotong, inspired me to pick up Rapid Blaster again; we remained in brief contact.
Funny how one small connection was able to led to another; due to that, I was able to arrange a SZ and TC scrim with their team schedule-manageress Charmy.
Rezi planned the maps to be used on scrims, our scrims were once again made to videos:
(Following vids are mostly about Splat Zones, positioning and Dynamo usage:)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_umEMC4rLxA (Splat Zones) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XAzLGugPby0 (Tower Control) As expected of Rezi’s team, [ ] did not disappoint in providing tough battles to challenge us. Satisfied with the trashing we received, we happily agreed on a Rainmaker-focused scrim so that Rezi could make vod (yes, vod, which stands for video on demand) out of it.
3) Enter Kuniki
The combination of Leaf’s procon getting fixed and RSI finals clashing with his Malaysia-Singapore trip puts a damper in Leaf’s motivation to play. As such, Tofu decided to get a 6th member in case Leaf could not play during his vacation.
The first candidate that popped into my mind was Kuniki.
Kuniki and I, our first meeting was an odd one. We first met in Animal Crossing: New Leaf, where I fulfilled his request for Splatoon amiibo-exclusive furnitures. We would then meet again in Splatoon 2 under louhai’s North and South Bros Whatsapp group.
NCY often spoke highly of Kuniki’s skill, and I remembered feeling the same after witnessing him fighting like a whirlwind-- charging into enemy’s base to wreak havoc, and escaping unscathed.
Kuniki is a bit of a lone wolf... or at least, that was the feel I get when I got to know more about him from NCY in the past, the same feel I got when I was in MwS chat. He doesn’t... “belong” anywhere.
With everyone’s blessing, I invited Kuniki in hopes that he could fill Leaf’s shoes, but at the same time I was worried; the loss of Leaf would put a dent on Tofu’s confidence, for Leaf is a strong battler and his strength gave others to fight..  I invited Kuniki in hopes that his presence would give Tofu the same confidence that Leaf could instil, and soften the blow of Leaf’s loss. But to me, no players are ever fully replaceable.
Could Kuniki really fill his shoes? Stay tune to find out.
TO BE CONTINUED...
