Note

Do you know what the western most bridge over the Danube Jonathan crossed on his way through Budapest is called? I'd like to see it.

I believe it's the Széchenyi Lánchíd, which was finished in 1849. It's prominently highlighted in two of Stoker's sources (specifically, E. C. Johnson's On the Track of the Crescent and Nina Mazuchelli's Magyarland), and it might have caught his attention as a "most western" bridge in Budapest owing to its English engineers Adam and Tierney Clark.

On Friday, 4 August, the beautifully renovated Chain Bridge reopens in time to mark Budapest’s 150th anniversary as a united city. To celebrate, from 6pm to midnight, the Chain Bridge Picnic brings together live street music, free snacks and children’s activities. After dark, the lights are turned on and the bridge will regain its former glory. When opened, the structure was the first permanent bridge over the Danube River that connected the opposite towns of Buda and Pest – now together the Hungarian capital. At the time, its centre span of 202m was one of the longest in the world. The bridge has the official name of István Széchenyi, a major supporter of its construction, although it is commonly called the Chain Bridge.
