I love this walk, up a hill on one side of Croagh Mharhain.  It leads to the site of the village that was built for the set of the film Ryan’s Daughter, released in 1970.  I have written and posted photos about this walk a couple of years ago, see here. Let’s talk again about how Hermes tells Percy in TLO that immortals can’t change and then Rick hits us with Bob and Damasen. And then after we’ve cried over “say hello to the sun and stars for me” he hits us with an entire series about people breaking out of the narrative where the protagonist is the god of prophecy.

read Guards, Guards! and had some Impressions

i saw someone on tumblr a few months ago shipping sybill trelawney and bellatrix black and I haven't stopped thinking about it since. acquinatances with benefits but sybill knows what will happen with bella but doesn't care because she's falling in love. Bella is in love but refuses to accept it because sybill is a girl and not pureblood, bella being absolutely ashamed of her relationship with sybill because sybill is a freak but sybill stares at her with her huge eyes in the great hall and bellatrix is sweating under her stare and can't stop thinking about what will happen if anyone finds out but at the same time she is ready to sacrifice her entire life for a second with sybill. what do you think

thinking about sybill and how violating it must be to have a mind that - plagued as it is by visions of the future, other people’s futures, often people that she doesn’t even know and maybe never will know - can never truly belong to her. how violating it must be to have the very inner depths of her mind be filled with rivers of other people’s fates, the beginnings and the ends, endless tangling strings of people’s lives pressing through her mind, the constant lack of privacy, lack of self-definition in the very place which should really be the most private, the place where the self should be defined most clearly

also thinking about barty and the violation of the imperius curse. you guys get it. you see it. i don’t have to say it. you understand.

Some weeks back I started this walk from Clogher Head. It’s not a long walk but, it just got too cold for me to finish it on that occasion. So, recently I did finish it, although I wasn’t best pleased with the light – being intermittently dull, cloudy, hazy and with occasional welcome short bursts of sunlight.
