Our Green Agenda | Robert Leech
Tumblr media
Could we be any greener?
We are taking our first step to achieving net zero emissions by setting out Our Green Agenda, with the aim to becoming net zero by 2030
1) One Tree Planted for Each & Every Valuation
To help us offset our carbon footprint, Robert Leech has partnered with One Tree Planted and we pledge to plant a tree for every sales & lettings valuation we carry out until 24th December 2022 and from then on we pledge to plant a tree for every sale. As a potential client or a vendor you can choose where to plant your tree from from countries around the world including the UK. Since 2014, One Tree Planted have planted over 40 million trees in more than 47 countries across the globe. In 2021, they more than doubled their impact from 2020 – with 23.5 million trees! We couldn’t be more excited to be part of this global phenomenon.
2) Bee Friendly with Robert Leech
Since May 2021 we have given out, for free, over 2000 bee friendly wild flower seed packets, equating to more than 10,000 plants. These have been distributed to 15 local primary schools as well as the general public via coffee shops and local events.
3) Reducing our Energy Usage
Robert Leech have three offices across Surrey and a significant contribution to our overall carbon footprint comes from the energy demands of light and heat. We have already put in measures to reduce the amount of electricity and gas we use in each office; turning down the heating, fitting light sensors to reduce usage and installing electrical car charge points at offices were possible.
We are investigating the use of greener forms of transport and introducing more sustainable business practises, such as reducing the amount of paper and plastic we use and working with our suppliers to become more environmentally conscious.
4) We’ll be Travelling Less
Our three offices arrange around 3000 viewing appointments every year so travel to and from properties is one of the largest contributors to our carbon footprint, as our staff accompany prospective buyers and tenants on every viewing.
Recognising this is the area where we are making a big impact, we will be literally taking the first steps by making sure we walk to viewings where ever possible! Diary management will also play a big part: We will create block viewings of properties and also making sure we group viewings by location so we do not waste fuel travelling to and from the office. If applicable, we can also offer virtual viewings, especially if it is a first time viewing and the applicant lives out of the area and has a significant way to travel. This will help us reduce the amount of mileage to and from properties and therefore minimise fuel consumption associated with every property sale and let, whilst still being able to accompany buyers and tenants around a property either physically or online.
Why is Reducing Our Carbon Footprint Important?
Over the past two decades the effects of climate change have accelerated. Considerable evidence exists proving climate change has been exacerbated by human activity. Changes in our post-industrial lifestyles have altered the chemical composition of the atmosphere, generating a build-up of greenhouse gases – primarily carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide levels – raising the average global temperature.
The consequences are already evident and will continue to worsen unless significant action is taken and quickly. Sea level will continue to rise and local climate conditions to be altered, causing an increase in extreme weather events, affecting forests, crop yields, and water supplies. This can lead to homelessness, famine and conflict as resources become scarcer.
It is vital that all individuals, businesses, organisations and governments work towards the common goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Skyscrapers also feed off the architectural sector’s warped relationship with technology. Architectural historian Barnabas Calder has documented how building heights have progressively bumped up every time new, fossil-fuel-hungry technologies, equipment and materials emerged: structural steel that could carry increasing tension forces; hydraulic lifting equipment that did not need deep underground pistons; and mechanical fire suppression, air, heat and water supplies that could work to dizzying heights. Today, enthusiasts promise further ‘progress’, from new damping systems, advanced concrete admixtures and complicated diagrid structures. Across the world, the time, money and energy of the built environment sector is funnelled into expensive luxury developments, projects in needlessly challenging physical environments, and rebuilds of perfectly functional spaces. Skyscrapers are the ultimate symbol of a real-estate system that is diverting the construction sector away from the urgent, under-resourced task of retrofits, affordable home creation, maintenance and material recycling.

If you have an au of transformers and they are present in some way what is your unicron like? I'm starving for unicron content :(
The various Other!Aus kicked off because of the Unicron-is-Earth connection could have made it possible and I crave more fantasy in Transformers.
Besides all the shitposts of Unicron being Italian, anti-Cybertronian devices are similar to anti-vampire equipment, and how his an older brother/sibling to Gaea, I haven't really delved deep into the guy. More like the other characters that are connected to him, like how Megatronus Prime and Prima are respectively reflections of Unicron and Primus.
If I'm focused on Bayverse, then he acts more like a primordial force of the cosmos that's currently slumbering in the core of the Earth. He is Chaos, and Chaos does what it does.
If I'm focused on Aligned/TFP, then he's a more active player who's trying to subvert the chains that Megatronus (and his descendants) buried into the planet as well as trying to work around (or with) a fledging Gaea who's painfully young on the cosmic scale.
Personally, I align Unicron as a deity of chaos and death. It makes sense as it complements his twin and is a check towards him (and vice versa). That's why I like to think Gaea is supposed to be a wilder, organic reflection of Prima that made use of Unicron's rage and hostility toward Prima (and his creations). Unicron was so off-put by his brother that he warded off his resting place with all the anti-elements he could, which Gaea took advantage of since Unicron needs sustenance to continue his existence.
It nicely bridges the gaps on how Earth and Cybertron are cousins with their weird similarities and gaping differences.

This video from Australia's public broadcaster ABC News does a better job at explaining China's current economic meltdown than anything else I've read or seen about it.
The root of the problem is China's previous one child policy which lasted for about three decades. Though other factors certainly contributed to it.
Indirectly the demographic situation in China raises some issues which deserve more attention.
The conventional wisdom is that population growth is necessary for a healthy economy. But when a country achieves a certain level of prosperity, the birthrate tends to level off.
So one question which economists should address with more urgency is: Can a country, or even the world, maintain prosperity with a largely constant population?
Obviously human population cannot grow endlessly, that certainly isn't great for the environment or the climate.
The old and endless arguments over capitalism and socialism are ultimately linked to the concept of unending population growth. Such talk needs to be supplanted by discussion and research on how to maintain prosperity in an environmentally friendly way for a consistent population level while respecting democratic norms.
That latter bit about democracy is vital – and not just for touchy-feely reasons. It was the autocratic Communist Party of China which implemented the heavy-handed one child policy and encouraged a culture of mendacity which led to the current crisis. Any system which does not respect democratic rights is doomed to failure in the long run.
——————
PROPS TO ABC AUSTRALIA: Just want to repeat my previous praise for ABC News Australia – the source of that excellent vid. The country punches above its weight with news and public affairs programming from its public broadcaster. It deserves a place on everybody's news menu. They have an app as well as a major presence on YouTube.

on the topic of that post about traditions, i was also talking with some friends about how i really like the "modern traditional" aesthetics of overwatch. you can definitely tell its the future, but there's a lot of regional building techniques in places that allow it that also abandon western aesthetics in favor of embracing the culture of the maps area. i know it's to give each map a unique aesthetic and the creators were not thinking as deeply about it as i am, but i enjoy thinking too much. big central cities obviously need metal and glass and so forth to support the infrastructure, but on maps for smaller locations, you can see that they're made with mostly local supplies. it was on the mind because i saw a video about the stigma against grass thatched houses in africa and how theyre seen as a backwards way of living, when in reality theyre actually the most environmentally friendly way to make a house in the area and theyre also energy efficient. you dont need to run heating and cooling through a house that heats and cools itself, you dont need to worry about food spoiling if its kept chilled naturally, and you dont need to worry about costly repairs to your house if the materials are readily available. its trying to build every shelter in a western style to try to show the world that a place has been "civilized" that leads to the loss of efficiency and culture and history and a million other things. anyway i think im probably the only person who cares about the sociopolitical implications of the funny monkey with a laser gun game this much

ADUs for Multigenerational Living: Creating Harmonious Family Spaces
Tumblr media
As families grow and change, the concept of multigenerational living gains appeal. Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) are increasingly popular for accommodating different generations within a single property, providing both closeness and individual privacy. This guide delves into how ADUs can support multigenerational families, fostering stronger bonds and offering economic advantages.
Benefits of ADUs in Multigenerational Homes ADUs strike an ideal balance between proximity and privacy in multigenerational setups. Constructing a separate living space on the same property allows families to live near one another while maintaining their own living spaces. This close yet independent arrangement supports daily interactions and family gatherings without the usual challenges of shared living spaces, promoting a supportive and connected family environment.
Economically, ADUs offer significant advantages by consolidating housing expenses. Families can share the costs of property maintenance, utilities, and mortgages, easing financial pressures across generations, which is particularly beneficial for the younger and older family members who might face more significant financial challenges.
Design Considerations for Family-Friendly ADUs Designing an ADU for a multigenerational family requires careful consideration to address the needs of all family members. For elderly residents, features such as step-free access, wider doorways, and safety bars in bathrooms are essential. For the younger generation, adaptable spaces that can transition from playrooms to study areas or home offices as children grow are highly beneficial.
Building Community Within the Home Beyond facilitating family togetherness, an ADU can also become a central hub for wider community engagement. It can host gatherings for extended family and friends, thereby extending its benefits beyond the immediate family to foster broader community connections. This not only enriches family life but also integrates the family more deeply into the local community fabric.
ADUs are not merely a structural addition to a property but a strategic response to the changing dynamics of modern families. By embracing multigenerational living through thoughtfully designed ADUs, families can nurture an environment that supports both independence and interconnectedness. Embarking on an ADU project is more than building a space—it’s about creating a home that enhances the lives of all family members, promoting shared experiences and lifelong connections.
