It does have a healthy amount of denial I am not shy or ashamed about that 👀

But at the same time, I do not base my thoughts on nothing, I base it his dialogue and scenes partnered with a bit of psychology! And you know what I'll take this chance to ramble even more because I always have thoughts on DOL characters and their complexity

I am in no way shape or form saying that Bailey is thinking sunshine and rainbows and the stereotypical loving sighs everytime he thinks of PC-- quite the opposite 👀

I think, no matter what situation, you're literally not getting any cute loving relationship with Bailey, I think that man is too far broken, too guarded, too self-isolated. He'd not really allow it for himself, and if he did... It'd probably be deeply toxic and controlling. Because that's... What he knows.

I think the whole thing is, Bailey doesn't want a weakness. He doesn't want to have any of that kind of feelings (frankly he seems to try to be detached from feelings in general), and I think even /realizing/ having any sort of feelings like that would infuriate him to no end, he'd internalize it and it'd eat him up inside.

And with that being said, I do genuinely think he does have a soft spot for the PC. Again, not a cutesy "Oh I love PC so much!!" absolutely fucking not. And sure, you could say it's only because PC brings in the most money,,, but I think it's more than that.

I've already listed a few of my reasons in my previous Bailey post, but honestly even if we just look at personality...

I think the two big archetypes of PC-personality is the Defiant who looks Bailey in the eyes without fear, isn't scared of him, fights back, refuses to conform, and protects the others. A pain in his ass, a thorn that won't be pricked.

Or, the neutral-to-submissive type, who does as asked, helps everyone around the Orphanage, helps everyone around town, tries to keep hope and stay strong especially for the younger orphans. Someone i could see make him almost even more bitter.

And honestly... this is PURE speculation, because we don't know canonically Bailey's past yet... But I could straight up see that some of Bailey's speculated soft spot could come from seeing some of his younger self in the PC, maybe before the bitterness overtook him, before he became this hard shell that knew that the only way to ignore his own misery was at least captilazing on others, that the world would remain broken regardless of what he did.

Or maybe the version of himself he wished he could have been.

I am however simply speculating it could be something like that!! because genuinely psychologically pretty much no one turns out like him, without being deeply broken themselves.

But no to get back on the Bailey x PC dynamic

We know that everytime Bailey has shown these moments I've called attention to, they're almost immediately followed up by coldness.

Oh he came running because you screamed in the bathroom? Congrats you got slapped for wasting his time when there's nothing there. You managed to seduce him and make him admit he doesn't want you to leave? Yeah no you got shoved off him and kicked out of his office as soon as he was thinking rationally again.

-- and it's like that with everything when it comes to Bailey. Which is exact why I'll say again, Bailey is in no shape or form a lovesick puppy, and I don't think he realistically ever would be even if my speculated soft spot ever turned into something more. That man has stunted his emotions as what I would assume to be a survival instinct, recognized that emotions = weakness. Having people close = weakness.

But instead of continuously rambling on,, I'll sum it up and say that my conclusion is, that Bailey is a complex character there isn't a simple "Oh he's in love with the PC" or "Oh he doesn't care about anyone ever at all", it's much more complex than that. Just like I think a LOT of DOL characters are complex, which is part of why I love the game so much.

People definitely don't have to agree with me, and can absolutely say I'm in denial I'll accept that because even if it's denial I still love him 🤧

Sure! Did that a couple months ago in the AMA, and I'm gonna do it again! >:D

So, starlings, right, their bloodline's outcome is always up in the air. There's no real way to tell which baby belongs to which parent other than their genetical corredor, their DNA can get really messy during development and you know at this point the only trustable source might aswell be the starling's instincts.

Now, as I said in my previous AU rambles, Kirby is only partially Meta's biological son due to Meta's genes getting fucked up by Nightmare's game of Magic the Gathering, but all that happened way before Kirby was born, so how did he turn out to be his child, even if not fully biological?

Let's break this down:

As I said earlier, "their bloodline's outcome is always up in the air.", meaning that not even the parent knows when, or even IF their child will come to be, as they are formed in their own Starship when the time comes. Somewhere, when Meta was at his lowest, a star fragment shone on the ground, and, upon picking it up, he saw it fade away in his palms. That simple gesture was enough to determine Kirby's arrival, and so, he did. Except that, somehow, his genetical corredor was the same as his father's before the corruption. Theorists speculate that the stardust would copy your DNA and purify it for a slight amount of time, but it's still uncertain.

The last line I always had in mind, hence the mirror to first line in the fic, but “stardust” was an addition later on when the pet name became a thing (which I think was about part 4/5).

The kiss was a last second addition altogether. Originally I wasn’t going to add it in because it didn’t feel necessary (for them or for us to know how they feel) but it was earned, so I decided to be nice since it has been a thousand year slowburn lmao. Had I had more time tibyim would have been longer and I really would have milked the thousand year concept to its fullest. Here you got the key moments. There were so many in-between.

So....I didn't pre-order it. Because I forgot about books and pretty much all entertainment with the continuous assessments and papers I have had to work on. 😭

I'll probably go to Waterstones when the book releases (or the soonest I have the time to go) and get it.

I will say though, I really dislike that most special editions for most books these days are so US-centric. Europeans maybe get one special edition and most other regions only really have the choice to pay import duties and wait for ages for their copies to ship. It's annoying.

TRICK OR TREAT!!

*well that's a loud one, you muttered to yourself as you approached the door. The moment you opened it and saw who was waiting on your threshold, you understood why: how else were they supposed to make themself heard over the rumbling engine noise coming from Sturm? You had questions, but they all went forgotten when you noticed he had googly eyes glued to the hub of his propeller. Their partner's costume went unnoticed (it was some sort of articulated doll, you think?), but honestly that was their plan all along. Mission accomplished, they thought handing you the bag and waiting for you to drop something in it*

the door doesn't open for quite a few moments, and you can hear rushed footsteps from the other side like someone is running around frantically, trying to collect their things. you wait a little while, just enough to make you question shouting out again, when the door swings open!

the person on the other side holds a big bowl of candy, almost fumbling it for a moment before regaining balance and composure. they're wearing a black-and-purple colored witch costume, with the hat atop seeming like it was haphazardly thrown on last second. they seem to startle slightly upon seeing sturm, before relaxing immediately after. do they think the whole thing is a costume, or are they just used to it somehow?

"god, sorry!! a little late i know, but i've just been SO busy. here, here--" they begin shoveling handfuls of candy into both your bags "--i've got plenty of candy for you two. it seems like you're the only people to show up this halloween so you can have extra!"

they chuckle as they finish filling the bags, looking back up at sturm. "i-- snrrk-- i really do love the googly eyes. they're so cute and goofy!" smiling, they turn their attention to the googly-eyed one's partner. "and you as well!! the costume's super cool. you really got uh... dolled up, for this halloween, huh?"

"oh my god, you really got to lay off those puns." a very fond, yet unamused voice speaks up behind them, and you can almost hear the loving eyeroll. as well as what sounds like a voice modulator, you may think, considering how the voice sounded like it came from an old speaker.

the other approaches leisurely and stops over the host's shoulder, placing a hand on their back. his costume--surely, it's a costume?--seems to be an incredibly detailed, almost futuristic diving suit, complete with red, glowing eyes laying behind the glass of his helmet. but despite his entire "costume," he also wears a black-eared kitty headband over the top of the helmet. it just barely fits on.

"simon!! look look-- look at the googly eyes." the witch points simon's attention excitedly to sturm's costume with a huge smile. the other's red eyes flick mechanically up to sturm, and though you can't see any expression behind the mask, you watch his body practically jump out of his suit for a moment at the sight.

"AH!" he exclaims, almost hopping backward. then awkwardly stammers out as if to not offend, "i-- i mean, yeah! the-- the googly eyes..." simon holds a hand to his chest, taking a robotic breath. "love the googly eyes."

the host giggles as simon starts walking back into the house. "aww, no!! it's okay, it's okay." they call out to him. then they turn back to you two, speaking between chuckles and snorts. "thank you two so much for stopping by! happy halloween!! and stay safe!"

the door shuts with a click!
