Why is it that whenever you are trying to help out an animal or an insect that has gotten into your home...they don't get that you are trying to help them not kill them!?!? I get it...they are afraid...but when I am standing still and waiting for the damn butterfly to calm down...cant it just...understand that if I wanted to attack it...I WOULD HAVE ALREADY!?!? In other words I wish there was a way for humans to communicate to animals to let them know whenever they want to help them out of a risky situation, and not eat them. That skill/signal would have been really helpful!

She hadn't seen him so emotional since he was a young, green guitarist. The red around his eyes like tree rings documenting how many hours he'd been crying. Caj approached the sedentary Skwisgaar carefully to not spook him, but he sprung from his seat the moment he saw her. Neither of them knew what to do with their arms, lopsided without their guitars. Skwisgaar settled on hugging himself.

"Is...Is didns't know who to call," he stammered, "She hasn't spoken one woird. Is think she hates me."

"No," Caj deflected, "she does not 'ate you. She loves you more than anyting. This is just very hard. For everyone."

Caj reached to cup his face and he place his hand over hers. A gentleness she thought she'd never see from him again. He wanted this as much as Vivi did. Thinking of all the children he had given her over the years, there was a slight bitterness at the back of her tongue to see him so invested in one that didn't belong to her. But then again, neither did he. She would have to unpack it later, if at all. For right now, there was someone who needed her.

"Let me talk to her," she said. Skwisgaar nodded and stepped aside.

The lights were dim say for a table lamp and the electronic glow from the vitals monitor. As she got closer, Caj could see the bruising and swelling on Vivi's face. For all the training she did, the assault at Cornickleson's funeral was too much for her. And there was more damage underneath the sheets and medical gown. Broken sternum and ribs and gouge wounds that took the life of her child. She was almost done with her second trimester. She had found out it was going to be a girl.

"Vivi," Caj said softly. Vivi turned to her. Her face was drier than the air in the room. "Oh my sweet sommerfugl." She was met with silence. It started small, like a cat about to hock up a hairball. Vivi's eyes started to leak while her lips quivered. She put her hands over her eyes and gripped her hair tight enough to rip. And as her fuse ran out, she exploded.

"AAAAAAHHHHHHAHAHAAHHH!" She wailed with the hurt of a thousand wounded mothers. Caj wrapped her arms around her and pressed her head into her shoulder nook, trying to pry her fingers away from her scalp. And Caj realized that Vivi didn't have anything to say. Just screams. If she were to open her mouth it would be nothing but screams.

"I gots you," Caj affirmed into her crown, "I gots you. I loves you. It's gonna be okay." She held the broken woman for as long as necessary, but she could've held on forever. When Vivi started to calm down, she heard a knock at the door.

"Pssst!" whispered Skwisgaar and he held her Les Paul through the opening. She lowered Vivi back on her pillow and quickly fetched her instrument.

Tuning the strings to the right tone, Caj continued her comfort process for Vivi. By playing her songs and giving her the rare instance of Caj's singing voice. She didn't care of visiting hours were going to be over soon. She would stay by both of their sides to get them through the darkness.

I read this article in Norwegian, which was very fun because I didn't know the Norwegian word for butterfly is "sommerfugl" (literally, "summer birds!")

I think my pronunciation is decent, but I definitely need to work on not getting tripped up by numbers and long words. I also want to work on having a more natural speaking rhythm when I read aloud.

It wasn't a part of the challenge, but I also made a vocabulary list of words I didn't know or remember from the article, since there were definitely some unfamiliar ones:

Tittelen er så langt «Jenter» og historien er en nerdete og skeiv oppvekstroman, satt på ungdomsskolen på tidlig 2000 tallet. Jeg gleder meg masse til å dele mer om prosjektet og til slutt få gitt ut denne boken, som blir min første tegneserie utgivelse. At jeg har sommerfugler i magen er en underdrivelse.
