Match Review: Galatasaray 3-3 Manchester United
Insert muffled screaming noises.
Tumblr media
Mainoo's mint, isn't he? And our goals were nice weren't they? Yeah, Garnacho and Bruno banged in some screamers, and McSauce finished off a proper Ten Hag move.
What do you mean we threw away another Champions League lead? WHAT DO YOU MEAN TWICE IN THE SAME MATCH.
Honestly at this point it's hard to be arsed to do a proper review and discuss the talking points. Our goals were great, theirs were a pisstake, Onana's had a mare in Europe yet again, and the First XI quality just isn't quite there.
Tumblr media
It's frustrating that he keeps scoring, because criticising Scott McTominay feels harsh. ETH is realising how he works as a midfielder that's good at duels and goals but shit at passing and positioning to receive the ball. The problem is we have Bruno for the goals and Mainoo/Amrabat/Casemiro (maybe) for the duels. We need ball retention and possession to complement these duties. Our three 'DMs' are more those types - less bruisers and more interceptors that can reclaim a ball and redistribute - but they need someone to hand off to.
Obviously this is where Frenkie de Jong would fit in beautifully, but I do think Mason Mount can - with game time - adapt to this role. He has the creative mind, the stamina, and the technical skillset. Just takes the piss he's had two injuries in a season where if you haven't been injured can you even call yourself a United player?
Tumblr media
The problem for me is the stark drop in quality in certain positions. The Maguire-Lindelöf centre-back partnership sucks, it just does. Defensively Maguire's in a good spot at the moment, but passing and awareness are both weak spots for him. He's not alert enough, nor pacey enough, to cope with United's ambition of a high line press game. Nor is Lindelöf strong enough to deal with athletic opponents. He has a great pass on him and we saw that in the build up to Garnacho's wondergoal versus Everton, but if United want to return to the glory days then players like these three have to move on.
Hell, even Andre Onana might be asked to pack his bags after this season if he can't eradicate these random howlers. Some players haven't got the mental strength to handle United. We may not be the best club but we are still one of the biggest. The pressure is always there, the scrutiny, the expectation.
Thankfully, I do think Sir Jim's entrance will start to take these situations by the scruff of the neck. If a pleb like me can spot issues (and can remedy them on FM24 and win the league 😏) then a billionaire with top sporting advisors can too.
Next up Newcastle on Saturday. Pray for a bounce back.

The Glazers monopoly of Manchester United has been broken following the completion of Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s 25 per cent stake in the Premier League giants. The British billionaire has finally seen his £1.3billion deal been ratified to get involved in matters at Old Trafford.  As part of the move Ratcliffe, 71, will take control of football operations as the boyhood United fan bids to restore the…

Six Managerial Targets as Erik ten Hag Faces Trial Amid Manchester United Audit
Manchester United seems to have come to terms with the idea that finding a replacement for Erik ten Hag could be a tricky task. Despite his recent success, the team’s management is concerned about the lack of standout options available. In their recent FA Cup semi-final match against Coventry, although United managed to scrape through with a win, it was a close call. Coventry’s comeback from…

League table when Sir Slex won the league for the first time off the back of fans calling for him to be sacked:
1) Man United
2) Aston Villa
3) Norwich City (🤯)
4) Blackburn
5) QPR
6) Liverpool
7) Sheffield Wednesday
8) Tottenham
9) Man City
10) Arsenal
11) Chelsea
Klopp is leaving. Pep looks tired. Chelsea is a mess. Spurs are rising but still Spursy. Arsenal is looking sharp which keeps the other big teams on their toes and in their place. The league’s been very competitive the last two seasons, which means top four isn’t a given.
These are prime conditions to go perch knocking in a couple of years if we turn over the squad like City did when the Abu Dhabi United Group took over in 2008, winning the league just 4 years later. We have a perch-knocking manager and we have a perch-knocking co-owner. Now we just need to build a perch-knocking squad, which will take some time. But once we do, there’s no stopping us. So keep the faith United fans. ❤️

A cautionary tale for Manchester United fans
So, Manchester United fans, you will say this is the season to be jolly, or at least some of the Man U fans will be. It’s Christmas time and they can celebrate it, with the knowledge that the Glazer family, will not be in charge of the footballing operations side of United. On the face of it, this is great news, superb news, but there is a but, a big one. The Red Devils will be a bit hamstrung…

Sir Jim To The Rescue!
So, Sir Jim it is then. Not quite official just yet but he’s well on the way to becoming Mr. 25% at Manchester United. Reports state that he has coughed up around £1.3bn for the privilege of having the Glazers turn down any of his requests that may, in the slightest possible way, cost them any money or profit. Initially there will be no investment in the facilities, the stadium or paying off any…

Match Review: Nottingham Forest 2-1 Manchester United
Just fuck off.
Tumblr media
A delayed review but now I'm here I can't be arsed. We were shit. No Rasmus Højlund due to illness is unfortunate, given he was surely hyped after scoring in the league finally, but that's no excuse for the rest of the team to play like they were hungover or had ran a marathon beforehand. It was turgid and boring and cast more doubts on Erik Ten Hag's management.
That lethargy swapped to unsustainable chaos in the second half as McTominay replaced a tired Mainoo (not a tactical move, fuck you Manchester Evening Post). We can't field Scott with Bruno unless we have a world class DM. We don't, ergo don't do it. And yet, we have to. Our squad depth is limited. Maybe Hannibal would be a better choice but honestly who knows. I'm tired of guessing whether talented players can actually perform.
Thankfully the INEOS purchase has gone through now, even if it is a partial purchase. More talented people will be coming in to reshape United's football operations - just a decade too late. Here's hoping the next decade is different.
