Culture Victory ②⚪
🌆
Legendary Sorcery 🟥
If you have the city's blessing, you are the monarch, you have completed a dungeon, and it is night, you win the game.
———————————————————————
"You have achieved victory through the awesome power of your Culture. Your civilization's greatness – the magnificence of its monuments and the power of its artists – have astounded the world! Poets will honor you for as long as beauty brings gladness to a weary heart."

It is not so much for its beauty that the forest makes a claim upon men's hearts, as for that subtle something, that quality of the air, that emanation from old trees, that so wonderfully changes and renews a weary spirit.
— Robert Louis Stevenson.
Also used in Sid Meier's Civilization V as the quote for the Temple of Artemis

Game 256 - Sid Meier's Civilization V by Firaxis Games
Tumblr media
What did I think it was at first? no idea! I think I got this in a Steam sale in like 2013. No clue why I picked this up.
Tumblr media
How was the character creator? You can customize your game in a lot of ways. You can choose the map surface you play on, the difficulty level (I played on Settler, which is basically baby), and the world leader you play as. I played as Queen Elizabeth!
Tumblr media
How was the game? It was surprisingly more board gamey than I thought it would be! Your goal is to establish your empire and secure a millitary victory, a cultural victory, or a scientific victory.
You are competing against NPC-controlled (or I guess in multiplayer they are people) nations with their own aims and goals in mind. I generally had peaceful relationships with my neighbors except for one time I went to war by accident and doubled down for funsies.
The first part of the game is very granular and requires cautious management of your expansion and resources. However, by the time my empire hit the modern age, I was able to zoom out and focus on improving my cities. I ended up handily clinching a scientific victory and probably could have played on a tougher difficulty level.
Tumblr media
What did I not love? This game takes so long to play. My one playthrough took me like 6 hours. I cannot imagine playing this with live people in one sitting. It was fun, but I don't think I have any desire to do it again.
At 6.3 hours and $7.49, was it really worth it? I think this is just not a genre I care for, though I did enjoy Democratic Socialism Simulator. There was a lot of crunch that I didn't love managing. Maybe if there was a more simplified experience I would like it more?

okay sid meier’s civilization twitter account, you win this one
(IMAGE ID: a screenshot of the Sid Meier’s Civilization Twitter account. It displays six different images of Alexander the Great from six different Civilization games which look drastically different, ranging from lionlike leader to rat-faced little bitch to alpha chin man to blonde guy I guess to that dude that’s on the cover of every paperback romance to discarded Shrek human design. The account has captioned these images “Did you do something with your hair, Alexander?”)

"Melbourne wants Vancouver bullied" Melbourne wants to start World War III!
Like three different civs have declared that they are protecting Vancouver, fuck you, Melbourne. I don't care that you're the only other people on this island, I am not going to war with the entire world for you. We're not that close!

trying out new games and I’m sticking to city builder types of games (think Civilization) and WOW does Age of Empires not fit what I was expecting, very disappointed. Much more focus on combat than I was expecting like I thought i’d get to build an empire but man it does not want you to do that just wants you to fight and go to war. Giving Crusader Kings 3 a try next

Angora software toy specs
Tumblr media
Explorable cooperative JIT "easy runtime hot-editing" level-design / worldbuilding software toy for Servitor. Mostly oriented for TTRPGs, agentive stories & other simulation use cases (support for Massive Multiplayer Online / MU* genre & Self-Hosting Offline as to plan for autonomous cooperative curiosity... in consideration)
40x24 tiles of 8x8 pixels for retro micro-computers like the Commodore 64. (320x200 px total); Aiming for either 40x20 (48x48 px) or 120x72 (12x12 px) tiles for 16:9 displays (aiming for 1920x1080 & 1440x810 screens for the most part)
2880x1440 "bit-map / font-map" vector "sector chunked" tilemap base with RGBA animated layers (probably some animated SVG format with potential for TIFF and PDF/XML/CSS3 alongside?) and autonomous multi-user domains as MVP? Using '.OGG' & '.OGV' files would be awesome too, alongside other FLOSS matters...
The principle for me seems to make a lightweight and computationally comfortable (for lower-end SBCs or even retro home computers?) yet heavily customizable & extensively scriptable "worldbuilding simulationist story generator" from vastly empowering fontmap primitives. Quite like Ken Silverman 3D projects & his other works, alongside Devine's Parade, ZealOS and many more direct editing symbolic data systems to be honest...
So yeah, I imagine the best of such like editing maps in "Mapster32" + "Trenchbroom" + "Hammer++" combined, running such in a concise self-hosted JIT compiler and tinkering still on runtime with whatever number of users the autonomous distributed server may handle by itself. (Might use distributed peer-to-peer computation and the above-mentionned data chunk-ing to ease the work as well...) (four tribbles bytecode data instruction set & Daggerfall's tiered worldly geometries blocks too...)
Still ideating and iterating upon the concept (encyclopedic exploration, mindful data documentation and faction-oriented instigations) as to make a cooperative game somewhat like Daggerfall in optimization (primitive modular 3D geometry reusable blocks & many 2D sprites), Hypnospace Outlaw in nostalgic feel + technologically-inclined thematics & GTA III derivatives (including Mercnearies Playground of Destruction) in player agency & factional complexity.
But I am fairly confident that eventually, with Godot, Qodot (Quake / Trenchbroom bindings for Godot), PixelCrushers' Unity utility packages (Love/Hate & Quest System mostly, maybe Dialogs too) and a couple of studious demos that I shall reach the grand aims I am setting myself for and fairly soon all things considered.

Civ 5, which runs flawlessly on the Steam Deck and doesn’t completely destroy the battery, has taken back hold of me. According to the last achievement I received, I last touched this game June of 2016. Please send help before I succumb to the siren song of ‘just one more turn…’

Chun-Li from Street Fighter
Tumblr media
Chun-Li has a Ryu Number of 10.
(clarification below)
As with before: Chun-Li's actual Ryu Number is 1.
Tumblr media
All appearances in the route above except Chun-Li in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 are only possible through game mods, and more specifically mods that change the gameplay a bit more than a model swap. I can't guarantee that any two mods for the same game are compatible, especially seeing as the Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow links are romhacks that replace the playable cast with those characters, but for hopefully self-evident reasons, I'm not being super strict about that.
The mods highlighted in this route are:
Palette Swap Characters for Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 by tabs
Cyclops for Fraymakers by poop674
Zero from Megaman Zero for Fraymakers by BeelzeSama
Castlevania: Zero X Harpuia for Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow by Shametal
Yami Yugi with summons playable in Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow for Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow by Shametal
The Duelist for Slay the Spire by Nyoxide
The Bug Knight for Slay the Spire by VenIM
Hollow Knight for Don't Starve Together by WUDA and dirte737
Satori Komeiji for Don't Starve Together by Hansard
Reverie - Touhou Combinations for The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth by Cuerzor
The Binding of Undertale & Deltarune for The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth by Cake, Wight, and abcbadboy
Spamton for Stardew Valley by AngelOfTheWastes27 and mitchellojello
Paper Mario Partners in Stardew Valley for StardewValley by AnotherStardewValleySunday
Paper Mario for Rivals of Aether by Phoba
Hatsune Miku for Rivals of Aether by DinoBros
Hatsune Miku's Vocaloid Civilization for Sid Meier's Civilization V by Vicevirtuoso
Metal Gear Solid: Militaires Sans Frontieres Civilization: Subsistence for Sid Meier's Civilization V by Vicevirtuoso
Project M EX REMIX for Super Smash Bros. Brawl by the PMEX REMIX Team
(In the interest of transparently covering my own ass, I am not making any assertion about the quality of the above mods or the respective mod creators beyond "these mods by these people exist and are functional, probably".)

Yesterday the Iriquois beat me at Civ V. Tonight. A fast match. A grudge match. I use my main. Just me, the Iriquois, and some city states on standard duel-sized map. Who will come out on top? (afterwards maybe some multiplayer if people are around)
