Day 12: Forget

(I believe Tumblr crunched it a bit so click on the image to see it better)

A tiny honse on a forget-me-not :3 I tried to make their hair resemble mouse ears, since according to Wikipedia the flower also called "myosotis", which came from the Greek word for mouse's ears, and I also tried to make their tail mouse-like as well, as well as a bit scorpion-like with the stingers and whatnot, since these flowers are also called scorpion grass :3

Their hair is green. You’ve never met someone with green hair before. You wonder what kind of magic is used to do such a thing, and why.

“It’s a little rude to stare, Miss exorcist,” the person says.

You file this information away for later, not that you need to worry overmuch about being polite.

You finally avert your eyes.

“I think it is time for you to be going,” you say.

“I don’t think it is. I don’t mean to step on your toes here, but I was actually hired by the person that owns the building,” the person says.

“You doubt my right to be here?”

The person shrugs. “I don’t have a leg to stand on when it comes to trespassing. But if you’re here without permission you can’t really kick out, that’s all I’m saying.”

You sigh. You doubt you will be able to get this person to go away without force. And you prefer to reserve your force for the dead.

You turn away from the person and head further into the house. You need to first rule out the house itself as the source of the haunting.

The person seems to be following you.

“If you insist on being here, please conduct your investigation elsewhere,” you request.

“I’m just heading back to where I was before I heard you come in,” they say.

“Where was that exactly?”

There’s a pause. “Well, where are you heading?” they ask with a hint of laughter.

You round on them.

“This is not the place for games, private investigator,” you snap.

“You can call me Pat if you like,” they say with a grin.

“Pat.”

“Short for Patience.”

“Well then, Patience. My work here is very important. I cannot have you around getting in my way. Go investigate elsewhere. Please.” You’ve heard people are supposed to listen when you say please. Part of being polite.

Patience crosses their arms. “I’m not trying to get in the way. In fact, I think I could help you out,” they say.

“I know exactly where in the house the all the…paranormal activity… is happening. I can show you. Because I know the person that hired you didnt have detailed information to give. Unless she broke in?”

That’s almost amusing. “You think you can help me?”

You frown. “How do you kn-”

“I’m an investigator. Figuring this stuff out is my job. I could use my skills to help you out, miss exorcist,” they say.

“Don’t call me that. It feels…” you aren’t sure what the word is, but you don’t like it.

“Oh. I’m sorry,” Patience’s air of playful smugness is dropped instantly. “You didn’t give me a name, so… is there something else you’d prefer I call you?”

You hesitate. Revealing your name in such a place can be dangerous…

This is already the longest conversation you’ve had with an outsider. You want to end it.

“Call me what you like,” you say.

“Anything but miss exorcist? Alright, then…” the playfulness is back. “How about Dahlia? You look like you could be named Dahlia.”

“I don’t care,” you say, turning your back to them again.

“Dahlia it is, then. Now come on. I’ll show you around,” They say, scooting past you to take the lead.

It will be easier just to follow them. At least for now.
