I’m higher than an angel’s hole and listening to 70’s music and all I can think about is how did nobody ever try to kill Nixon considering the fact that he prolonged the Vietnam war and was a general piece of shit overall
A most gentle and blissful high upon you, shall the mango stone watch over you in all your high endeavors.
but to answer your question: There were assassination attempts, they just weren't super publicized.

Eventually you've found yourself inside the cafeteria. Everyone is grouped up in their own little sections, separated into who fits where.
Czolgosz, Goldman and Zangara sit together in the very back. Zangara seems more focused on his school work, while Czolgosz is intently listening to Goldman's ranting.
A couple yards away from that table stands a boy who looks a little young to be in highschool. You assume he had skipped one or two grades. He's looking longingly at that table, similar to how an unpopular kid may watch a group of cool kids. You know him as Cooper St. John.
Sitting with Moore is an eccentric girl nicknamed Squeaky. Moore seems to be trying to listen to whatever the girl is saying, but looks completely lost as the ranting goes on. Charlie seems to be making his way over there. You avert your gaze.
Booth sits surrounded by a few theater geeks, and some wannabe popular kids that, for some reason, just adore Booth's every move. Amongst that group was Oswald, who sat oddly close to the other.
And then.. There were a few kids who sat alone. On one side of the lunchroom was Samuel Byck. He wore noise canceling headphones wired to his phone, and next to him was an untouched tray of school-provided food. He scrolled through is phone, ignoring the world around him.
On the other side of the lunchroom sat John Hinckley Jr. He was doodling away in a notebook, adjusting the glasses too big for his face and glancing back at his phone screen every so often. The page was full of different Pokémon.
Who will you approach?
>Czolgosz, Zangara, and Goldman
>Cooper St. John.
>Moore, Squeaky, and Charlie
>Booth & Co + Oswald
>Samuel Byck
>John Hinckley Jr

hi can you tell me a litlw about zangara & byck i know like. nothin about them
OH OH OH OH OH OHHHHH
okay so i’ve not been able to find a whole lot of information about them online, which is :(, BUT!! WE PROCEED NONETHELESS!!!!!
so giuseppe zangara was an italian immigrant who was hella anti-capitalist, and if i remember correctly, it was after a financial plan FDR came up with that he decided to shoot him? that needs to be fact checked though lmao
he was in the crowd of a parade where roosevelt was giving an impromptu speech in the back of a car, and he was so short (5 feet!) that he had to stand on a metal folding chair in order to aim his gun
he fired off one shot before the crowd attempted to stop him, and he unleashed five more shots aimlessly into the crowd. five people total were shot, including chicago mayor cermack, who would die of his wounds about 17-ish days later- though, it’s unclear as to whether or not he would have died if it weren’t for the doctor’s treatments of his wound (similar to president garfield, it was mishandling of the treatment process that would lead to his death). additionally, one woman was burned from the gunpowder, and one man’s hand was grazed by a bullet.
he was convicted of first degree murder, through transfer of intent (though he didn’t intend to kill cermack, he DID intend to kill FDR, and therefore was able to be tried to the fullest extent), and would be sentenced to death, spending only a week on death row. when he found out that there wouldn’t be a crowd at his execution, he was VERY disappointed. he would die by an electric chair, that was nicknamed, i believe, old sparky. no i’m not joking.
additionally, he suffered from chronic stomach pain his entire life, likely resulting from intense labor at the age of six. he underwent multiple surgeries, none of which were successful- and i believe that it was partially due to this intense chronic pain that modern historians wonder whether or not it could have contributed to a possible defense by insanity in court, because of the severity, though that also could use a fact check.
also! there’s a conspiracy that he was actually intending to hit mayor cermack, and that he was a skilled marksman and an assassin hired by a chicago mob boss instructed to kill cermack as retribution for cermack’s attempted hit on said mob boss, though this directly contradicts zangara’s statements about the crime.
and byck! oh, byck.
samuel byck came from a poor family, and grew up with mental health issues. he checked himself into a mental hospital for two months, and it was there were he was radicalized and became certain of richard nixon’s ill-intent towards the poor.
he would be arrested twice for protesting in front of the white house without a permit (once in a santa costume, which is why he’s dressed like that in assassins!), until he decided that the best course of action was not, in fact, protest, but instead that he needed to kill nixon.
he planned to steal a plane and fly it into the white house, and he recorded every step of his plan, because he thought he would be regarded as a hero.
when they day came, he brought a 2 gallon bomb and a gun to the airport and hijacked a plane, ordering the pilots to fly him to the white house. they told him that they could not take off with the doors open, and when byck went to shut the doors, they called both airport security and the police.
when they told him they couldn’t fly the plane without the blocks being removed from the wheels, he got angry and shot both pilots, then dragged a passenger up to the cockpit and ordered her to fly it.
the police eventually came, and they attempted to shoot out the wheels of the plane to prevent it from taking off, though the bullets never punctured. byck would end up shooting a police offer before shooting himself in the head, living for a few minutes after the shot and asking the police to help him.
in total, three people were killed- one of the pilots died before he was able to be brought to the hospital, as well as police officer and, obviously, byck himself.
after the incident, it was found that he had sent an interview with himself to a journalist to publish in the newspaper, again reiterating his belief that he would be hailed as a hero to the american people.
both men would soon fade into relative obscurity but for history nerds and musical fans.

You choose to approach Sam's table, which happens to be placed at the opposite end of the cafeteria. Immediately, you realize that placement is extremely inconvenient for you, as you have to walk past many tables. The cafeteria is, of course, extremely loud with yelling, laughter, and banter.
Thankfully, around your neck is a pair of sensory headphones. You're able to slip them onto your ears before you actually begin to make your way over to the table. You find yourself having to dodge a few freshmen and one senior, and you manage to narrowly avoid being tripped by a kid from Booth's table. The adventure to the table alone is enough to give you +1 point for life experience... But that's not apart of the stats, so instead you get +1 Smarts!
You are finally able to place your bag and lunch box down at the table and sit down. when Sam looks up. Clearly confused, he stares at you for a minute. You're the first to speak
"Hi!" You say, smiling "I'm [PROTAG], and you're Sam, right?"
He looks a bit surprised upon hearing his name. Samuel nods, slowly turning down his phone.
"Yeah, that's my name. Where'd you hear it?" He asked, and the voice almost catches you off guard
There wasn't much of a normal explanation for begging the school counselor to tell you someone's name, so instead you lie about it.
"Moore told me! She uh.. She gave me the tour of the school.. So she told me about who she felt was more significant."
You only allow yourself to breathe again when he nods in understanding. A conversation slowly begins, and soon enough you two are bonding over your mutual hate for Booth!
[When there is only around 7 minutes left, you had noticed that Byck had failed to eat what was provided to him by the school. You decide to pile the other half of your white rice onto his tray. You play it off as not wanting to waste food, and successfully get Sam to not go to class hungry.]
You've gained +1 heart from Byck, and you now have better chances.
You are now able to pack an extra lunch!
This allows you to gift a lunch to other people.
