out of spite at the people who think transhet men have straight male privilege, i was planning to look into violence against straight transmasculine people specifically. i was going to look through the aovatp and see what i can find about the victims' sexualities, but i wanted to first ask if you had any information on their seuxalities already from your research. no worries if not, i just figured i'd check.
100% support that. I think straight trans men especially see a lot of erasure from other queer people, who are quick to portray them as cis lesbian victims of lesbophobia.
Here are the victims on the Archive who I know would be relevant:
Khleo Finnie (USA) - Assaulted and slashed along with his wife while being called slurs
Maria Paola Gaglione (Italy) - A cis woman who was murdered by her brother to "teach her a lesson" after getting engaged to a trans man
Unnamed trans man (Qatar) - A member of the Qatar royal family fled and went into hiding with his girlfriend after his freedom was restricted by his family.
Phillip (Malawi) - Assaulted by police officers along with another trans man for "doing lesbian activities"
John (USA) - Murdered by the ex-husband of his girlfriend in the late 1986. "During the murder trial in 1990, the defense proposed the argument that it was not a “real murder,” as John was just an “it”." (Hung Jury chp. 9)
Nicole Saavedra Bahamondes (Chile) - A camiona (butch lesbian) who was murdered, and had been previously harassed by cis men who sought to "correct her" and "make her a woman." She lived in Valparaíso, a region known for its lesbophobic violence.
^ Unnamed camiona (Chile) - Whipped with chains while being called lesbophobic slurs. Also from Valparaíso.
^ Carolina Torres (Chile) - Brutally beaten and permanently disabled by cis men who specifically targeted her, and not her femme girlfriend, for being a camiona; during the attempted murder, they asked her "Why do you dress like a man?"
Kavi/Kaveri (India) - Murdered and had his body burned by two cisgender men because he was against one of them dating his friend.
Jorge (Ecuador) - Forced into conversion therapy where he was physically abused and made to wear sexy feminine clothing (his girlfriend was also subject to similar treatment).
Manoj (India) - 17-year-old who was tied up, beaten, locked in, and threatened with murder by his family after coming out as a straight trans man. He was also taken out of school and forced into marriage with a much older man.
However there definitely are other people on that list who might be of interest to you.

Carmen Saavedra was an elementary school teacher and a divorced father of three. His wife had up and left the family one day, claiming that she had 'new dreams she wanted to pursue', and that being tied down to her family was 'holding her back. Carmen did his best as a father, but struggled at times due to not being the best when it came to cooking and various other tasks.
One day, while going through things in his bedroom, Carmen found the case containing his ex-wife's ring inside. Feeling a bit sentimental, he pulled it out of the box. As it would turn out, the ring had become possessed by a Toon Core, but laid dormant within the container until he had pulled it out. The next thing Carmen knew, he had been transformed into a Toon Mom.
Now, as a Toon Mom, Carmen finds herself with the innate knowledge and skills of all things domestic and motherly, with heightened maternal instincts.

I have two questions!
1 - Have you read all ASOIAF books? If yes, which is your favorite?
2 - What are your favorites books and why?
Thanks in advance ☺️❤️
I have! I think the third one was my favorite.
Some of my favorites books are:
Catch-22 by Joseph Heller
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
Dead Souls by Nikolai Gogol
To the Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf
Fathers and Sons by Ivan Turgenev
Oblomov by Ivan Goncharov
Pale Fire by Vladimir Nabokov
The Manuscript Found in Saragossa by Jan Potocki
The Epic of Gilgamesh
Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison
True Grit by Charles Portis
The Castle by Franz Kafka
The Narrative of the Life of Fredrick Douglass by Fredrick Douglass
Darkness at Noon by Arthur Koestler
Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra
Sundiata by D. T. Niane
Paradise Lost by John Milton
Orlando Furioso by Ludovico Ariosto
Moby Dick by Herman Melville
At this point I'm just copying stuff down from a book review site I used to have. I used to read a whooooooooole lot, but I haven't much recently. :( Maybe I'll get back to it some day. My favorite author is Virginia Woolf. There's nothing more enjoyable than reading something by her—anything. When it comes to a put-together book, though, I think To the Lighthouse is her best. The others I've read are a joy to read, but the end, they don't necessarily come together as well as a book, if that makes sense. Now I haven't read them all. I've read To the Lighthouse, Mrs. Dalloway, Jacob's Room, and Orlando. If I were to recommend a second one, it would be Orlando, which is a real adventure to read. But her writing is unlike any other. I adore her work.
Lately I've been rereading some of my favorites aloud to my daughter after school. We read The 13 1/2 Lives of Captain Bluebear by Walter Moers, and we've now gone through four books by Tove Jansson: The Moomins and the Great Flood, Comet in Moominland, Finn Family Moomintroll, and Moominpappa's Memoirs. Next up is Moominsummer Madness before things get dark. lol But she's been enjoying them. I love Tove Jansson. She refused to write anything other than what she felt. (One of the reasons Finn Family Moomintroll was so odd. She felt a million eyes on her for perhaps the first time, and she was nervous. She settled back in after that.) There's also random things in there. In Moominpappa's Memoirs there's a drawing she did that's a send-up of Picasso's Guernica when Edward the Booble saves them at the end. I should put a picture of it, because I'm not sure anyone noticed... At least I can't find anything on the internet (probably searching wrong).
Anyway, that's some stuff.

Upcoming series: Ena
In September, the filming of Ena began, a biographical series that will focus on the life of Victoria Eugenie of Battenberg, queen of Spain through her marriage to Alfonso XIII between May 31, 1906 and April 14, 1931, after being the monarchy deposed later by the proclamation of the Second Republic. Great-grandmother of the current king Philip VI of Spain, of whom she was godmother at his baptism. Throughout six chapters, the series will tell the life of Victoria Eugenie and at the same time offer a portrait of a time that changed the world, the first half of the 20th century, from 1905 to 1945. Born on October 24, 1887 in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, Ena was the daughter of Henry of Battenberg and Princess Beatrice, youngest daughter of Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom and Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. Her godmother was Eugenia de Montijo, empress consort of France as Napoleón III's wife. The name of the series comes from what her friends and family called her since she was little, Ena.
The fiction is based on the novel of the same name by Pilar Eyre. Javier Olivares, who was behind the acclaimed Isabel and El Ministerio del Tiempo, will be the showrunner and plot manager for Ena. In addition to Olivares, the script is written by Isa Sánchez, Daniel Corpas and Pablo Lara Toledo. The series will be directed entirely by women: Anaïs Pareto, director of the series as a whole, in addition to four episodes, and Estel Díaz, who will direct two episodes.
“Ena is the portrait of historical moments that seem distant but are not so far away, because without them we would not understand the times we live in now,” Olivares declares in the press release sent by TVE. The writer and screenwriter remembers that Victoria Eugenie “fought to be happy in a bitter time, in which she witnessed two world wars, a civil war and a great pandemic, the tortuously called Spanish flu.”
For Pilar Eyre, author of the novel, she was "an extraordinary woman: cultured, supportive, liberal-minded, modern and very loyal." And she is excited because "finally all Spaniards can know" the story of a "misunderstood" woman. in their time, which they will always consider foreign." It is a fiction co-produced by RTVE with Ena La Serie AIE, La Cometa TV and Zona App. José Pastor, director of Film and Fiction at RTVE, has pointed out that "it is a "RTVE is proud to be able to portray this interesting historical character, from the point of view of two women directors and with Javier Olivares as showrunner, in one of its best series."
The Spanish actress of Anglo-Danish descent Kimberly Tell will play Ena and Joan Amargós will play Alfonso XIII. For her part, Elvira Mínguez will play Maria Christina von Habsburg-Lothringen, mother of Alfonso XIII. The cast is completed by Lucía Guerrero (Beatrice of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha), Raúl Mérida (Alfonso of Orleans and Bourbon), Juan Gea (Álvaro Figueroa y Torres, Count of Romanones), María Morales (María del Carmen Angoloti y Mesa, Duchess of Victoria), Pedro Mari Sánchez (Rodrigo de Saavedra y Vinent, Marquis of Villalobar), Luisa Gavasa (Eugenia de Montijo) and Joaquín Notario (José de Saavedra y Salamanca, Marquis of Viana)
Mariano Peña will play Miguel Primo de Rivera; Jaume Madaula will play the anarchist Mateo Morral, author of the attack committed at the royal wedding; Tomás del Estal will be Emilio María de Torres y González-Arnáu, and Ángel Ruiz will once again give life to Federico García Lorca, a character he already played in El Ministerio del Tiempo, among others.
The series will be filmed entirely in natural exteriors and interiors, like the Royal Palace of Madrid, the Palace of La Granja de San Ildefonso (Segovia), the Palace of Santoña (Madrid), the Palace of Fernán Núñez (Madrid), the Fort of San Francisco (Guadalajara) and the Magdalena Palace (Santander), built in 1911 by the City Council as a tribute to the monarchs and where Ena spent a good part of her summers in Spain, accompanied by the Royal Family. Filming for the series will continue until the end of December.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So, the Magdalena Palace is going to be an important location during the series as a summer palace, the main filming location in Gran Hotel, and in that series Ena appeared in the episode 3×13, played by Aída Filx.
Apart from that, are we getting an Olivaresverse (XD)? Most likely not, and it's just references about his previous works as a showrunner, but there are connections between Isabel, Emdt and Ena: Michelle Jenner starring Isabel as Isabella I of Castile, then appearing in a couple of scenes in Emdt episode 1×04 and being an important figure in the lore as the foundress of the ministry (& Eusebio Poncela playing as Cisneros in both series, and also he played Cisneros in the film La Corona Partida and the Carlos Rey Emperador series); Alfonso XIII is a descendant of Isabella I of Castile; Ángel Ruiz appeard as Lorca in Emdt in 4 episodes and now he is on Ena playing as Lorca again, we don't know yet how much screentime he will get or which will his role be (secondary character most likely), but it's great to see more about him!
PHOENIX - A teenage boy shot a man trying to break into his home near 75th Avenue and Camelback Road Friday night, police said.
Officers were called to the neighborhood at around 10 p.m. on Sept. 8, according to police.
Here are the details on what happened:
Who's the suspect?
Court documents identified the suspect as Juan Saavedra.
Saavedra, according to court documents, turned 36 on Sept. 11, three days following his arrest. Court documents listed a number of prior arrests and convictions for Saavedra, but those entries were redacted from the court documents we received.
In court documents, Saavedra is listed as a transient.
What led to Saavedra's arrest?
Court documents state that Phoenix Police officers responded to a residential neighborhood near 75th Avenue and Camelback Road for a burglary in progress call at around 10:05 p.m.
When officers arrived at around 10:13 p.m., they contacted a man in front of a home, later identified as Saavedra.
"As officers approached this male, they observed him to be suffering from apparent gun shot wounds to his abdomen and right arm," read a portion of the court documents.
Eventually, officers made contact with an alleged victim, who told officers she had received a motion notification on her security system, and then saw Saavedra on her security camera walking around the front of her home.
"The victim stated she exited her residence and gave the defendant several commands to leave the area or he was at risk of being shot, in an attempt to scare him away from the residences front yard area," read a portion of the court documents. "The victim stated she then ran back inside of her residence, instructing one of her children to close and lock the door behind her. The victim stated as she entered her residence, she began calling police and went to retrieve a firearm in order to protect herself, her husband and five children located inside."
The alleged victim, according to police, later heard Saavedra bang on a carport door. After she told her children to move away from the area and hide as far away as possible, she heard the glass windowpane of the carport door shatter, and Saavedra's hand reaching inside.
"The victim stated as she stood with the firearm, she observed the defendants hand came through the now open and broken window, and reached for the doors doorknob in an attempt to open the door,' read a portion of the statement. "The victim stated at this point her 13-year-old son, seeing that the defendant was attempting to make entry and his mother was not firing the firearm, in fear for the safety of himself and family, took the firearm from his mother and fired the firearm towards the defendant, striking him."
Saavedra, according to investigators, was later taken to the hospital for treatment of his injuries, and was eventually released into police custody.
What led to the incident taking place?
In an interview that was done after Saavedra was read his Miranda rights, court documents state that detectives asked Saavedra on why he tried to get into the home. Saavedra replied that he had been smoking methamphetamine with a friend for about 48 hours prior to the incident, and that he was trying to locate his friend in various residential yards.
"The defendant stated upon approaching the victim's residence he heard her inform him to leave the area. The defendant stated he then approached the carport door of the residence, and believed it to be his son, despite knowing the residence did not belong to him," read a portion of the court documents.
When asked by police if he knew his actions could scare the people inside the home, court documents say Saavedra replied, "Yeah, I mean I was high obviously."
So, what happens to the suspect now?
According to court documents, Saavedra is accused of 2nd Degree Burglary, which is a felony.
Meanwhile, a judge has set a $50,000 cash-only bond for Saavedra, according to documents.
Neighbors said they heard several gunshots. Some ducked down on the floor.
They say it’s troubling to hear police say this suspect was seemingly attempting to break into their neighbor's home randomly.
"I’m happy that they had something to defend themselves," a neighbor said. "I would have, we would have done the same thing, so I feel good for them."
OC Sunday Post
Thanks to @commander-sunshine, I learned about this awesome event! Here's my two main OCs, both from the world of The Expanse, who happen to fall in line with a bunch of clones from The Bad Batch, and beyond! Their ongoing saga (Far Past The Ring) is up on both AO3 and Wattpad.
Tumblr media
Here's my main OC, Dr. Sjael Drummer (PhD):
Dr. Sjael Drummer (who is from the world of The Expanse) is a chemical engineer and researcher from the Sol system, originally from Ganymede, who has found herself on Medina Station as part of the Transport Union with her extended family.
She conducted her post-doctoral research at the Outer Rim through a ring gate, to see if there were any inhabitable planets for Belter colonies.
While she did not find a suitable planet due to the Empire Being Lame, she did find the remains of Clone Force 99, post-Ipsium incident. And things get wild from there, which you can read about here, in ‘Far Past the Ring’:
Some facts about this Dr. Drummer:
Sjael is the first cousin of President Camina Drummer, as their fathers, Anang Drummer and Aki Drummer, were brothers.
Both Anang and Aki, as can be surmised by their names, were descendents of the Anishinaabe/Ojibwe First Nations in the Belt. Sjael is of mixed First Nations and Scandinavian heritage, as is her older sister, Tanke.
She is a vegetarian, and is adverse to harming animals. It is why she went into engineering and chemistry, rather than medicine, like her older sister (see below).
Sjael’s Ph.D is in chemical engineering. Her dissertation (and subsequent research) is on developing sucrose from both organic and synthetic materials (ie, how to make things sweet in space!)
She became friends with the crew of the Rocinante thanks to her cousin Camina's love for Naomi Nagata. They often host parties at their home where the crew hangs out.
She dated a dashing pilot for the Free Navy named Toivo Saavedra for many years, and got engaged while she was in graduate school. She soon found out that he had another fiancée, as well as other women, on different planets and stations. Oh, and he was a pirate, too. Just a class act. (She throws herself at the next guy she gets close to, who happens to be a member of Clone Force 99, so...take a read if you're curious who!)
Sjael’s biggest passion is cooking and baking. She not only loves the chemical reactions and challenges from using different ingredients (vanilla being a favorite!), but she loves taking care of those she loves. She oversees all food preparation in her extended family, who live together in a massive compound on Medina Station.
She also adores photography, and is responsible for many of the pictures and videos on Medina Station.
Sjael became a pilot, first to make sure to see her parents on Eros (where her physician father and lab assistant mother were stationed, and then killed by the Protomolecule), and later as a coping mechanism for being left behind by Toivo.
Going fast and doing wild tricks in her Mulan-class gunship is one of her modes of letting off steam.
The tattoo around her neck is of the various chemical flavonoids she worked with in her research.
An irreverent ‘daddy’s girl’, Sjael was very close to her laconic, but kind-hearted, obstetrician father, who emphasized the power of deeds over words.
Speaking of family....
Tumblr media
Next up, is Dr. Tanke Drummer (MD), Sjael's older sister. Drawing is a WIP, bear with me.
Yes, that's Crosshair's helmet. They do not hook up or get romantic in the slightest: Tanke has, to quote "Three children, two spouses, and endless headaches!"
Rather, they become close as PTSD riddled survivors of war and brainwashing in the best way they know how: by protecting the ones they love through fierce fighting.
She is the chief intake physician of Medina Station. Any human who wishes to travel from a ring gate into the Sol system to plants such as Earth and Mars must go through her first.
A quick eye and quicker tongue, Dr. Drummer does not suffer fools, and despises pirates, smooth talkers, and anyone who dares to hurt her family, whether it's a sibling, spouse, or child.
Some facts:
Tanke is older than her cousin Camina, and often served as a guiding post for the younger Belter, even as their fathers fought constantly.
One of Tanke’s most searing memories from her childhood is watching her grandfather, union organizer Sjaelland Roose, be killed on camera with his fellow miners during a strike. This prompted her to become entrenched in the more extreme factions of the OPA.
Tanke has both a wife (Miriam Martin) and a husband (Timon Chapelle). Polycules are common in the Belt.
She met her spouses while serving on a Free Navy ship, which she joined after finishing university: the horrifying experience of which has made her a fierce critic of the OPA/Free Navy, and a violent enemy of Anderson Dawes.
She has multiple tattoos–the Belter ‘scar’ tattoo around her neck, as well as feathers under her ear. Her left ring finger has two wedding rings tattooed on them for her spouses. Finally, she has multiple circles and dots on her arms–all of which show the locations of Ceres and Ganymede when her various family members were born.
She has three children–two biological sons (Blid and Haber, ages 11 and 7) and a daughter that was born from her wife (Tro, age 14). Timon is the father of both.
All of the children address her as ‘Niimama’, the Ojibwe word for ‘my mother’. Miriam is addressed as ‘Mama’ by all of the children.
She loves beer, but does not like hard alcohol as much. A full stomach is very comforting to her.
Tanke has PTSD and anxiety, which is channeled through her rage and caustic tongue. Her insults are legendary.
She also deals with this through going to the firing range and long, intense walks through Medina Station.
She will not eat for many hours, but the moment she gets to a comfortable spot (usually with her sister and her cooking) she will eat a huge meal.
Tanke loves carbs, and that is her biggest weakness. Noodles and bread are her comfort foods.
You'll meet more of them the more I keep writing!
Thank you @aroace-genderfluid-sheep, @artsyunderstudy and @captain-aralias for the tags. I too hate losing an hour because of daylights savings time.
Well folks, it’s still Kill Your Darlings, thesis edition! I usually try to find six, or ocassionally seven, sentences for the SSS posts. I know it’s not a hard rule, but I like doing it. Unfortunately I had to kill quite some darlings for my thesis, and as a result I have a lot more sentences today, so here we go.
Conforming to the heterosexual order is also referred to as homonormativity (Duggan, 2002). Homonormativity shows that the heterosexual norm is superior and as a result the queer community seeks inclusion and recognition of heterosexual institutions. This is done by disowning anything that is seen as abnormal. This can be done through media representation, among other things. Homonormative representation can lead to a victim role and to assimilation with heterosexual culture (Dhaenens, 2013; Yue, 2014).
This is actually 4 sentences. And yes, “homonormativity” is a weird term. You kind of assume it defines the opposite to heteronormativity, but nope, it is an extension of it.
But next darling that I needed to kill (kinda), is long, so let’s move this under the cut.
To understand how queer representation leads to societal consequences, it is important to look at how queer representation came to be. Queer characters appeared in media from the early 1920s, but new regulations in the 1930s and 1940s made it illegal to show explicit queer characters in America. As a result, a lot of subtext and symbolism was used. Not only that, but these characters were used in a negative way, linking homosexuality to immorality (Rodriguez, 2019). Gay men were the dorky “sissies” (Rodriguez, 2019) and the lesbians were the ugly, sneaky “dykes” (McNicholas Smith, 2020b). Often a storyline for a queer character ended in death, something that still occurs and is known as “Bury Your Gays” (Birchmore & Kettrey, 2022; Bridges, 2018; Waggoner, 2018). From the 1970s, things gradually changed and around the 1990s, the era of modern queer representation arose. Since the 1990s, the number of queer characters has increased and representation is becoming more diverse (McNicholas Smith, 2020b; Rodriguez, 2019).
However, the queer community is still under-represented and limited in the roles in which it is portrayed (Waggoner, 2018; Woods & Hardman, 2022). The queer community is always portrayed in a heteronormative way to show that heterosexuality is the norm (Allen, 2022; Avila-Saavedra, 2009; Dhaenens, 2013; Marwick et al., 2014; Weber & Weeks, 2022). When Ellen Degeneres came out, it was an important moment for the community, but the moment was also criticized, because everything queer about Ellen was taken away for the heterosexual viewer, because queerness is seen as something abnormal (Dow, 2001; McCarthy, 2001). Thus, representation of queer characters must appear very standard, non-political and non-sexual: the characters must adhere to traditional values such as family, monogamy and stability (Avila-Saavedra, 2009), or they are portrayed as a victim to let see that it is easier to be cisgender and straight (Dhaenens, 2013; Rodriguez, 2019).
On the other hand, normalisation is seen as a positive thing. Dhoest and Simons (2011) criticise the idea that simple, standard queer representation is always bad representation. They say that it is wrong and oversimplified to claim that there is only one right way to represent the queer community. Viewers also acknowledge this by stating that even if they do not feel represented by some depictions of queer characters, that those queer characters can still be important to others (McInroy & Craig, 2017). Some studies show that viewers appreciate normalisation (Dhoest & Simons, 2011; Gomillion & Giuliano, 2011). While some viewers like a more abnormal queer representation (Sender, 2011), others even reject this “overkill” and “extreme” queer representation (Dhoest & Simons, 2011).
Yeah, this is a big darling. As I said, I sort of have to kill it? First off, I have to shorten it. But I can save some parts of it and I need to put it in another section of the thesis. Basically, I have to restructure my entire theoretical background, which honestly was valid criticism (I talked about this on Wednesday). But this means that even after I trim it down, I need to be able to split it up and put the relevant parts under “recognition”, “respect” and “identification”.
Unfortunately, I love all of this section, so shortening it is going to be rough. My supervisor also said that this is all too “subjective”, but I am not entirely sure I agree with that criticism. As in, this isn’t my opinion. I put the sources right after it. My supervisor tells me to summarise earlier research and I did and these are the results from those earlier studies. This happens multiple times, because she said that my usage of the terms “positive” “negative” and “better” representation is subjective, but I also take those terms from the sources. Hmmm.
And now, the weather: @quizasvivamos @blurglesmurfklaine @coffeegleek @esperantoauthor @otherworldsivelivedin @caramelcoffeeaddict @sillyunicorn @bazzybelle @dragoneggos @raenestee @tectonicduck @nightimedreamersworld @urban-sith @thnxforknowingme @you-remind-me-of-the-babe @takitalks @justgleekout @cerriddwenluna @tea-brigade @ivelovedhimthroughworse @moodandmist @whogaveyoupermission @bookish-bogwitch @confused-bi-queer @ionlydrinkhotwater @1908jmd @special-bc-ur-part-of-it @larkral @chen-chen-chen-again-chen @cutestkilla @nausikaaa/@wellbelesbian @martsonmars @facewithoutheart @shrekgogurt @boyinjeans
Introducing the first royal family in my current Sims Royal save file. I'm pleased to introduce the Windsarien legacy. The Windsarien Family have ruled over Windenburg for as many generations as have been written. However, we begin our story with the current generation. The current king of Windenburg Redvers Windsarien, first of his name has inherited more than a simple throne and crown but the most powerful kingdom as well. Windenburg has risen to an unstoppable force through the previous ruler King Rheigngar and Queen Marisol Windsarien. The old saying "Behind every successful man is a woman" is the reason Windenburg can boast its power. Queen Marisol, a beloved and extraordinarily powerful spellcaster set her eyes on Reigngar although already married to his first late wife, Queen Lyanna Windsarien. After the unfortunate death, which in no way could ever be linked to Marisol, they quickly married to blur the timeline of the arrival of the current king of Windenburg, Redvers, and his twin sister Queen Maraeys Nefrilot, the queen of Henford-on-Bagley. With Marisol's power, and the push to marry their children to 3 mighty kingdoms Windenburg has become the most grand, wealthy, and powerful kingdom in all of the realms. The citizens of Windenburg enjoy generous welfare for each citizen as well as a deeply rich culture accepting of magic, and powerful women who harness it. The current king originally married Marciela to stronghold an alliance with the Saavedra dynasty, the current rulers of Oasis Springs, however, quickly fell in love with "The Rose of Oasis Springs", heralded as the most beautiful in all of the realms. Their arranged marriage, which quickly blossomed into a love story of the ages, has produced the heir to the throne, Crown Prince Redvers Windsarien II, the second of his name as well as Princess Royal Soleila Windsarien. When we return we will take a look into the king's twin sister Queen Maraeys Nefrilot and the ruling family of Henford-on-Bagley.
Siblings - José Santiago Bustamante Saavedra (m, 39), Maite Bustamante Saavedra (f, 49), Sofía Isidora Bustamante Saavedra (f, 46), Mateo Bustamante Saavedra (m, 42)
Tiago is very close with his family and, when not working, can be found taking his leave with them. The Saaevedra household is full of laughter and good humor so that, no doubt, infects the people they bring to meet the family, as well.
TRAITS::
Affectionate - Tiago is very loving and has a lot of love to give to the people he cares about. There is never not a time when he is actively trying to do sweet things for those he considers his, whether that be family or friends. Often, that affection is very lowkey, seen in physical touch or acts of kindness (such as cooking a meal or carrying someone to bed), but it is something that is almost ingrained into his personality. However, that does not mean that his affection cannot take on different forms with different people, and sometimes that affection may look odd to people not in on the “secret.”
Dependable -  If there is one person you should be able to count on, it’s Tiago. Whether you’re on an unfamiliar planet or just need some help around the house, he is the one you want to back you up when you need it. That dependability leaves him feeling very steady, something secure that you might not have otherwise. Despite his eccentricities and the fact that he is passionate about his work, and that might come across as being very “out there,” Tiago is one of the loyal people in the world. Once you have him, you have him for the rest of your life unless you do something too unforgivable to jeopardize that trust. (Even then, depending upon the circumstances and the relationship, he might let you in again, but he would never stop caring, even if he says he has).
Humorous - Tiago is always laughing and always there to entertain. A bit of a class-clown type, when circumstances call for it, he is often the one to lend a bit of humour to an otherwise heavy situation. He makes it his goal to get each of his team to laugh when they need it because, as his mother always used to tell him, ‘laughter is the best medicine, mijo. Use it as often as you can.’
Argumentative -  Despite his genteel attitude (most of the time) and his seemingly bookish persona, Tiago has a lot to say about a lot of things and when he thinks (or knows) he’s right, he will defend that knowledge like a pitbull. He doesn’t let go of an argument until it is sufficiently played out when it is serious. When it’s not, well, sometimes he argues for arguments’ sake. Particularly when it comes to Fredi Castillo, the argumentation is often just a chance to speak with the other man, to get him to notice him, but far be it from Tiago to ever reveal that information.
Sarcastic - Growing up with four siblings has made Tiago adept at not only understanding the intricacies of sarcasm, but perfecting his own brand of it. His witticisms are often dry and, with the right tone, may go directly over someone’s head. Even still, it is perhaps one mode of communication that Tiago is most fond of. He employs it liberally and delights in doing so, much to his partners’ chagrin. Sometimes that sarcasm can get him into sticky situations, but he is smart enough to get him out, too, most of the time. And, if not, he has three other people that have his back.
*Eccentric - Tiago’s eccentricities are vast and bred deeply into his being, something that he has had since he was a young boy. His family are well aware of his ability to monologue about a rare flower species for hours at a time or to infodump about something he has hyper fixated on for months’, which is often how his research begins, but those who might not be used to him may find it tedious or difficult to work through. When he was growing up, he often had to curb these eccentricities for fear of being ridiculed, but he has since embraced them. Visiting his workplace means that you will often come into contact with Tiago at his most open so his eccentricities will not be hidden, just as they would not be when with his family. If you are asked to put your right shoe on the left side of your left and hand your laundry to him from the left instead of the right, an upward motion instead of downward, just indulge him. He promises you’ll get used to it or, if not, will be able to, shortly upon your arrival.
BACKSTORY::
Agustín Tiago Bustamante Saavedra was born fifteen minutes ahead of his sister, Sofía, on a warm April morning, welcomed into this world with an eager older sister smiling down upon them and two incredibly relieved parents. The Saveedra family is one of love and laughter and Tiago and his sister were quickly welcomed into that tradition by a warm extended family and quiet, friendly community. When María brought her children home, there was homemade food, as much supplies as the new additions to the family could need, and a neighborhood that rallied around their newest additions with open arms.
Kindness and community are what Tiago grew up in and, with them, he thrived.
As he grew from a curious toddler into a bright young boy, Tiago’s thirst for knowledge and the unknowable continued to grow. He was constantly asking questions of his mother and eagerly awaited his father to return home from the hospital after each shift so that he could hear all about his day. Even when the stories were not perfect, when they did not have a happy ending, Tiago wanted to know them. Tomás never denied his son, even when he probably should have, but that indulgence ultimately created a man who loved to learn, who thrived in that space, and who would become the top of his class at the academy where he received his education.
While a bit of an eccentric and a lover of all things mathematical, Tiago’s easy-going personality usually endeared him to all those around him, even when they didn’t initially get along. He was a bit of a nerd in the lower grades but he eventually grew out of that, looks-wise, and grew more confident. He is still quiet, but now that quietness hides an over-active mind and a man that always has a plan, even when it might not be one hundred percent perfect.
His thirst for knowledge led him to a career in academia, one which would become integral in his assignment to his current workplace and the affections that would grow between the team; doing this work, they become a family. Hand-picked for his theses on the spatial dimensions and his work with psychotropic fauna species, Tiago and the rest of his team have been tasked with searching to find the substances most likely to aid medical researchers, hoping that the work they do may prove to be the key to unlocking significant advancements in medicine, enough to save lives and earn their place in the history books as the research team to do so.
HEADCANONS::
Tiago cannot have children. While he recognizes that that would bother some people, he does not care. His family is large enough and he has enough cousins and nieces/nephews that there doesn’t feel like a “void” in his life without kids. He always has children around him, even if they are not his own, and that is enough for him. Tiago is also definitely open to the idea of raising children with his partners, but would sooner adopt than have anyone birth one of their own. For him, family is not only that which you are born into, but that which you choose.
Tiago is potentially on the autism spectrum, as he has tendencies toward those behaviors, though he has never officially been diagnosed. He has lived his life long-enough - and has learned how to remove himself from stressors that would endanger himself or his crew - to know how to cope with certain things, so he's never really chased one.
𝐒𝐚𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐝𝐫𝐚 𝐋𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐧
The Dalish are elves who refuse to live in human cities, where their people are exploited, having few rights. They choose to eke out an independent existence in the forests, attempting to keep the last remnants of their ancient culture alive. Saavedra is from clan Lavellan, a group of Dalish who migrate around the perpetually feuding Free Marches. Saavedra's people travel along the borders of each city-state's territory, where Free March rulers will be less inclined to attack them, for fear of accidentally provoking neighboring cities.
Saavedra manifested a talent for magic as a child. The clan's leader, Keeper Deshanna Istimaethoriel Lavellan, taught her how to control and hone her new powers. Saavedra grew into a capable mage, far away from the eyes of the templars and mage Circles. When tension between the two factions erupted into warfare, spilling into the countryside, Clan Lavellan was forced to pick up and move. Saavedra's Keeper sent her to spy on the Conclave at Haven, as the outcome might determine the fate of her own clan.
After the explosion that killed the Divine, Saavedra was the only survivor at the Temple of Sacred Ashes. Rumors that the mysterious mark on her hand is a sign of the Maker's favor were spread by those who claim they saw the divine prophet, Andraste herself, lead Lavellan out of the Fade. [x]
November is... National Long-Term Care Awareness Month!
Eldercare 101 by Mary Jo Saavedra
An easy-to-understand guide for caregivers in a post-pandemic world who are adapting to the rapidly changing lifestyles and care needs of elders. The care and wellbeing of our seniors is paramount as we move out of the worst phase of Covid 19 and back to a more stable landscape, that is still subject to the vagaries of aging, illness, and capabilities. This updated edition of Eldercare 101 has been expanded to include pandemic lessons, climate change impact on senior housing and relocation, new medical and technological advancements, new housing trends, multigenerational living, Zoom memorials, brain health, legal needs when you have no children or family, isolation and more. Using her Six Pillars of Aging Wellbeing framework, Mary Jo Saavedra and a variety of expert contributors explore the needs, desires, realistic circumstances, opportunities for healthy and safe aging, and end of life care … something we all need to think about at some time or another.
Floating in the Deep End by Patti Davis
With the heartfelt prose of a loving daughter, Patti Davis provides a life raft for the caregivers of Alzheimer’s patients. “For the decade of my father’s illness, I felt as if I was floating in the deep end, tossed by waves, carried by currents, but not drowning,” writes Patti Davis in this searingly honest and deeply moving account of the challenges involved in taking care of someone stricken with Alzheimer’s. When her father, the fortieth president of the United States, announced his Alzheimer’s diagnosis in an address to the American public in 1994, the world had not yet begun speaking about this cruel, mysterious disease. Yet overnight, Ronald Reagan and his immediate family became the face of Alzheimer’s, and Davis, once content to keep her family at arm’s length, quickly moved across the country to be present during “the journey that would take [him] into the sunset of [his] life.”
Empowered by all she learned from caring for her father―about the nature of the illness, but also about the loss of a parent―Davis founded a support group for the family members and friends of Alzheimer’s patients. Along with a medically trained cofacilitator, she met with hundreds of exhausted and devastated attendees to talk through their pain and confusion. While Davis was aware that her own circumstances were uniquely fortunate, she knew there were universal truths about dementia, and even surprising gifts to be found in a long goodbye. With Floating in the Deep End, Davis draws on a welter of experiences to provide a singular account of battling Alzheimer’s.
Mashed Potatoes in My Salad by Eunice L. Sykes
Mashed Potatoes in My Salad is foremost a love story. It is a poignant tale of a woman, who, after several unsuccessful, toxic and abusive relationships, finally finds the man of her dreams under unlikely, risky, and daring circumstances. What she had not anticipated, though, was being a caregiver time and time again as he endures serious illnesses - including a devastating Alzheimer's diagnosis.
This is her complex, multilayered story of ambition, drive, romance, endurance, resilience, loyalty, survival, love, and joy. Her lessons learned will inspire and motivate you to be all that you can be and to live your best life better.
The Caregiver's Companion by Carolyn A. Brent
People today are not only living longer, they are also living sicker—making aging and caring for elderly loved ones more complicated than ever before. In this extensive guide, caregiver advocate Carolyn Brent outlines a step-by-step process so caregivers know what to do and what to ask in every situation that may arise, including:
• Signs that your loved one needs more assistance
• What to look for in a retirement home
• Caretaking in your own home
• How to ensure wills are in order
• How to manage difficult family relationships
• Ensuring you are getting the help and care you need
Brent leaves no stone unturned, provides personal stories and scenarios for context, and includes other references and resources in this complete guide to caregiving.
OC Time: Dr. Sjael Drummer
Tumblr media
Name: Sjael Drummer, Ph.D
Nickname/s: Sesata (Tanke, Miriam, Timon, Naomi), Shay-Bay (Tanke), Mama (Meg), Auntie (Tro, Blid, Haber), mi toki (“my laugh” in Lang Belta, Tech), Waffle Cones (Amos Burton, Jim Holden), Dr. D (Her assistants)
Age: 27(at beginning), 30 (at end)
Species: Human (Belter)
Height: 6’4 (shorter build for a Belter due to growing up with some gravity and better nutrition)
Weight/Build: 155 lbs, slender with wiry muscles
Gender: Female Pronouns: She/Her
Hair: Wavy dark brown, shaved on sides for access to helmet. Often wears in braid, or in ponytail
Eyes: Dark brown, almost black, very large for her long, oval face.
Sexuality: Straight
Relationship status: Single (at beginning)
Family: Tanke (sister), Timon (BIL), Miriam (SIL), Blid (nephew), Tro (niece), Haber (nephew), Lyse Roose (mother, dead), Dr Aki Drummer (father, dead), Anang Drummer (uncle, dead), Camina Drummer (cousin)
Occupation: Post Doctoral Chemical Researcher (at beginning), Senior Chemical Engineer of Medina Station (at end)
Current location/from: Medina Station/Ganymede, Sol System
Voice: Mezzo, with a light Belter lilt
Personality: Despite being raised in a ferociously independent, proud Belter family, Sjael is a sweet natured, bright person who genuinely sees the better side of most people. She considers it a duty and honor to care for others, and sees this as an inevitable part of growth in the Sol system. This comes from being raised as the adored youngest in her educated family, as her mother, like many Belter women, suffered from multiple pregnancy losses in between the births of her two living daughters. Sjael was raised somewhat sheltered in comparison to other Belter children, with a family member always there to protect her from most harmful things. This allowed her to keep a sense of quiet optimism, very unusual amongst the citizens of the Belt. Unlike her sister Tanke, Sjael still has a natural sense of curiosity, and adores getting people to learn with her, especially in regards to creating things out of organic material from a chemical background. She was especially attached to her doctor father, who died in the Eros incident while working in a free clinic for mothers and infants. However, recent events leading up to her current position–namely the siege of Ceres, the destruction of Ganymede, and the breakoff of her engagement with her ex-fiance, OPA terrorist and Free Navy pilot Toivo Saavedra–have left her more guarded.
Flaws: Sjael, in true Belter fashion, lacks tact, and assumes that everyone is interested in the subjects that she talks about, occasionally infuriating or upsetting others. Used to being protected by her family members and friends (such as her cousin, Camina Drummer), she often lacks courage in situations that truly call for them, and prefers to either negotiate or run–which has had devastating consequences for her. Finally, her kindness and inclusivity can–and has–backfired on her massively, as she has been brutally taken advantage of.
Likes: plants (especially flowers), science experiments, birds, vanilla, cooking, baking, mushrooms, making people smile, children, photography, learning, riding bikes of any kind, hot drinks (coffee and redbush tea are her favorites).
Dislikes: Messes, meat, politics, bad smells, technology that doesn’t easily work, large parties with lots of socializing, yelling.
Desire: Sjael wants a stable future for her people, most of all, those who are close to her–she is a space version of a Disney princess. She does this through her research as a chemical engineer, discovering new ways to make flavors and foods safer for the many galaxies in the Slow Zone. However, by meeting Clone Force 99 and the remains of the GAR, she finds a new group to protect, who in turn help propel her own people forward. She finds new ways to gain courage, as a pilot and as a supporter of the fighters that she loves.
