✨I ranked all the indian stuff I watched in 2023✨

For context, this July I finally gave in to my decade-old urge and dove head first into indian culture. It's been nothing short of phenomenal. The more people I meet, the more foods I try, the more music I listen to, the more Hindi I learn, the more I fall in love with India.

Although I became more of a TV serial person, eventually, I gave in to the movies as well.

So here's everything I watched, ranked from worst to best.

10. Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani

This movie is useless, I'm so sorry. Somehow, it fooled me into thinking Naina was the main character, then the whole thing became about Bunny and I was so confused, who was I supposed to care about anyway? Can't complain though, Naina is a boring and uncharismatic cliché, I couldn't care less about her, had she disappeared midway into the story, I would've been thankful. Avi, Bunny, and Aditi, on the other hand, are loveable characters that deserved to be in a better movie — especially Aditi, I liked her so much. Too bad the movie seems to be about absolutely nothing. There was a message, I think, but it felt so shallow it didn't even matter to me, there was no actual relevance, no lesson, no impact, nothing. Maybe I'm stupid, but this movie is a drag. And the soundtrack SUCKS, Ilahi is the only good song in it.

9. Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2

The very first Bollywood movie I've ever watched. I wanted to like it so bad, it makes me sad that I didn't. Is it a comedy? A horror story? A dramatic murder mystery? Somehow, it's all of these and none at the same time, it can't decide on a tone to save its life, not even the humor can decide on what exactly it wants to be (most of it is just bad). The main couple has negative chemistry, their romance is so bland it's almost funny. Ruhan carries the whole movie on his back and is the only character with enough charisma to make me care, I honestly love this guy. His scene where he pretends to be possessed is incredible, and Tabu as Anjulika was great too. The plot twist was really nice, possibly the only good thing about the whole story, but then the movie ends so abruptly and on such a heavy note that it almost made me sick when the upbeat theme song started playing immediately after. This movie could not read the room, everything about it throws me off.

8. Jab We Met

Aditya is a dream, Geet is kind of a nightmare. I have nothing against characters that are lively, optimistic, and cheery, but they have to be bearable, she was just way too much for me. I loved Aditya's character development, it was fun and endearing to watch. The movie itself is not bad, just overrated. Nagada Nagada slaps though.

7. War

I wanted to love this movie just as much as it wanted to have a good twist. We both failed. Underestimating the audience's intelligence is one thing, but toying with us and making us feel like fools for the sake of a “big reveal” is something else. And no, it wasn't worth it. It wanted to be surprising, but it was just frustrating, shocking for all the wrong reasons. The action was fire though, no complaints there, and I loved the relationship dynamic between Kabir and Khalid, I would watch 11 seasons of those two going on missions with their team and fighting together, their chemistry is so good, I enjoyed every second of their scenes.

6. Arjun: The Warrior Prince

As a Mahabharat fan, I had hopes, but that's on me. Loved the way the story was presented to the audience, simple but brilliant. Shaheer Sheikh's Brihannala altered my brain chemistry, and I was elated to see her again. The animation was gorgeous, that goes without saying. I just hated how it ended right before the war, right where Arjun has some of his best moments, and hated even more how they practically erased Krishna from the story. At least they made him dark skinned this time.

5. My Name is Khan

Had this been based on a true story, I would've been the biggest fan of this movie to ever exist, I am a sucker for movies based on real life stories. Still, despite the disappointment of finding out this whole thing — as good as it was — was fictional, I see it as a touching, lovely, honest, and relevant story that kept me interested and broadened my horizons. Say whatever you want about allistic actors playing autistic characters, Shah Rukh Khan sold the heck out of this character and I bought it like the big neurodivergent fool that I am. I see a neurodivergent character onscreen, I am immediately on-board and loving them despite all their scripted flaws because “they're just like me fr”. "Marry me", indeed.

4. Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani

Is it innovative and groundbreaking? No, but it is so much fun. It's deep and honest enough, charismatic and funny enough, it's just good entertainment with a good message. I expected nothing to be honest, either way, the story just kept getting better? The dynamics kept getting deeper and more complex? Wait a minute, this was actually good! I went in for the soundtrack — I'm obssessed with Dhindhora Baje Re — but I stayed for everything else. I laughed out loud many times, I shed some tears, I rooted, man, this movie made me feel actual things! What a lovely surprise.

3. The Railway Men

I went into it with such high hopes. Some of them were met, but part of me was left unsatisfied. As I said before, real stories are my favorite, but the way this show was presented feels too much like fiction. Good fiction, but still. And I know it’s not fiction. I am aware that many creative liberties were taken, and I'm not against them, at all, but the thing is: I could see them, I knew they were there. When I watched HBO’s Chernobyl, I was fully convinced that everything that was presented in the show was reality, exactly how it had happened, and I doubted nothing. I was shocked when they revealed that Ulana Khomyuk was a character created to represent many scientists that were involved in the incident. I had eaten her up, and I still can't believe she wasn't a real person. The Railway Men feels like the opposite of this, most of it feels like a creative liberty, very little reads as a real event, a real interaction, or a real person. I doubted a lot of what I saw, and had to do some research to fully understand what exactly had been real. But like I said, it was still good. I found myself caring deeply for each and every character, no matter how minor, I deeply empathized with their pain, rooted for them, cried with them, cried for them. It's heartbreaking, gut wrenching, revolting, yet it still manages to be inspiring. Why I never learned about Bhopal before watching this show is beyond me, but at any rate, I will be recommending this show to everyone I know.

2. Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva

I will defend this movie's honor, I don't even care. I loved it so much that I made my mom watch it with me the next day, and she loved it. The dialogue is cringy, yes, unbearably so, some lines make my skin crawl. But COME ON, the plot is great, the concept is creative, the visual effects are wonderful, the soundtrack is divine —Mohan is dreamy— hear me out, I was hooked, on board, immersed, you name it. This movie made me feel so excited, I felt like a 7-year-old watching a super hero movie and wanting to have cool powers just like those, I honestly can't remember the last time a movie made me feel this energetic. Do I understand why Shiva and Isha were so deeply in love despite having met each other a week ago? No, but I was still rooting for them. Do I understand why sometimes people yell out the Astra’s powers in order to activate them like the Power Rangers? No, neither do I vibe with it, but do you think it mattered? The next moments were so freaking cool that I completely forgot what I wanted to complain about. (Oh, and Saurav Gurjar was in it! I gasped so loud when I saw him on screen, and playing a villain no less!) I was genuinely sad when it ended, I would've watched three more hours of that, despite the terribly written lines. I will fight for this movie and forgive every bad line of dialogue if it kills me.

1. Mahabharat (2013)

In case you haven't noticed, I am absolutely obssessed with Mahabharat. Initially, I’d decided to face the 267 episodes of this show because watching stuff in your target language is a good way to learn (also, that Krishna guy was very easy on the eyes, looking at him a bit more surely wouldn't hurt). It took me a few episodes to really get into the story, but once I did, oh boy, I was so hooked on the plot I even forgot about the language (although I did learn some words from it). The thing about this show, other than the freaking superb plot and phenomenal cast, are the characters. They all made me feel something. And that's the thing with characters, I believe, they don't necessarily have to be good or bad, morally speaking, they have to be well-written and entertaining, they have to make you feel things, positive or negative. Shakuni, a villain, was freaking great because of how good he was at being bad. And the good guys, like the Pandavas, weren't just good, that'd be boring, they were also charismatic, unique, funny, inspiring, and sometimes morally grey, which made them even more interesting, even more human. Watching them get in conflict with their morals when things got dark was insane. Even when they messed up —I'm looking at you Dharmraj— I still wanted to see them win. They felt like family, I watched them grow, I felt so close to them that their struggles and victories felt like my own. “My boys”, I call them. Mahabharat is my Roman Empire, man, I could talk about this show for HOURS. Anyway, this became my favorite show of all time and I'm so glad I didn't let the number of episodes scare me away. (And yes, I am still very much in love with Saurabh Raaj’s Krishna, he is probably one of my favorite characters ever, my heart raced when I first saw him and it still does to this day, BYE)

Oh, this ended up being a Top 10. Nice.

I both thank you and applaud you for reaching the end of this ramble that is ultimately just a result of my obsession with making lists and ranking literally everything. And also my admiration for indian culture.

I would've included Porus and Chandragupta Maurya but I'm not yet finished watching them, but I thought I should say: I am liking them a lot.

🍃🕊🍃 These are the General Aamal to be performed throughout the month of Rajab.

Traditions indicate Repentance, Fasting and Giving Sadaqah/Charity in abundantly is highly recommended.

{1} Imam Jafar al-Sadiq (as) has reported the Holy Prophet (S) as saying: Rajab is the month of imploring for forgiveness for my people; so, you should implore forgiveness repeatedly as below in this month much more than you do in other months

أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللّه وَأَسْأَلُهُ التّوْبَة

astaghfiru allaha wa as'aluhu alttawbata<

I ask Allah for forgiveness and I pray to Him to accept my repentance.

{2} It is recommended to fast on three days in the month of Rajab: Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. It has been narrated that one who fasts on these three days in one of the Sacred Months will be awarded with the reward of nine hundred year worship.

{3} If one is incapable of fasting during the Rajab month recite the following instead 100 times each day

سُبْحَانَ الإِلٰهِ ٱلْجَلِيلِ

subhana al-ilahi aljalili

Glory be to the All-majestic God.

سُبْحَانَ مَنْ لا يَنْبَغِي ٱلتَّسْبِيحُ إِلاَّ لَهُ

subhana man la yanbaghi alttasbihu illa lahu

Glory be to Him other than Whom none should be glorified.

سُبْحَانَ ٱلاعَزِّ ٱلاكْرَمِ

subhana al-a`azzi al-akrami

Glory be to the All-honorable and All-dignified.

سُبْحَانَ مَنْ لَبِسَ ٱلْعِزَّ وَهُوَ لَهُ اهْلٌ

subhana man labisa al`izza wa huwa lahu ahlun

Glory be to Him Who has dressed Himself with grandeur that fits none but Him.

{4} The Holy Prophet (S) is reported as saying: Whoever repeats the following imploration for forgiveness 100 times in Rajab and immediately gives alms after it, Almighty Allah will conclude his life with mercy and forgiveness. And, whoever repeats it 400 times, will be given the reward of one hundred martyrs

اسْتَغْفِرُ ٱللَّهَ ٱلَّذِي لاَ إِلٰهَ إِلاَّ هُوَ

Astaghfirullaha alladhy la ilaha illa huwa <

I implore the forgiveness of Allah. There is no god save Him,

وَحْدَهُ لا شَرِيكَ لَهُ

ahdahu la sharika lahu

the One and Only Who has no partner,

وَاتُوبُ إِلَيْهِ

wa atubu ilaihe

and I repent before Him.

{5} The Holy Prophet (S) is also reported to have said: Whoever repeats this litany 1000 times in Rajab, Almighty Allah will decide for him 100,000 rewards and award him 100 houses in Paradise:

لاَ إِلٰهَ إِلاَّ ٱللَّهُ

La ilaha illa allah

There is no god save Allah.

{6} A Hadith reads that whoever repeats the following imploration for forgiveness 70 times in the morning and 70 times in the evening on each day in Rajab, will be admitted by Almighty Allah if he dies in Rajab and Hellfire will not touch him on account of the blessings of Rajab:

اسْتَغْفِرُ ٱللَّهَ وَاتُوبُ إِلَيْهِ

Astaghfirullaha wa atubu ilayhi

I implore the forgiveness of Allah and I repent to Him.

After this raise the hands towards the sky and say:

اَللَّهُمَّ ٱغْفِرْ لِي وَتُبْ عَلَيَّ

allahuma aghfir li wa tub'alayya<

O Allah, (please do) forgive me and accept my repentance.

{7} It is recommended to implore Almighty Allah for forgiveness in the following form one thousand times in Rajab so that He will forgive:

اسْتَغْفِرُ ٱللَّهَ ذَاَ ٱلْجَلاَلِ وَٱلإِكْرَامِ

Astaghfiru allaha dhaljalali wal ikrami

I implore Allah, the Lord of majesty and honor,

مِنْ جَمِيعِ ٱلذُّنُوبِ وَٱلآثَامِ

min jami i aldhunubi wa ithmi

to forgive my all sins and offenses.

{8} Repeat the following 3 times (i to x) each morning & evening for forgiveness

(i) Sura Fatihah , (ii) Ayatul Kursi , (iii) Sura Kafirun , (iv) Sura Tawhid , (v) Sura Falaq , (vi) Sura Naas

(vii)

سُبْحَانَ اللّهِ،وَالْحَمْدُ لِلّهِ،وَلا إلهَ إلاّ اللّهُ،وَاللّهُ أَكْبَرُ،وَلا حَوْلَ وَلا قُوَّةَ إلاّ بِاللّهِ الْعَلِيِّ الْعَظِيمِ.

'Subhanallahi walhumdulillahi wa la illa ha illa allahu wallahu akbar wa la hawla wala quwata illa billahi al'aliyul azimi

All glory be to Allah; all praise be to Allah;there is no god save Allah; Allah is the Greatest; and there is no might and no strength save with Allah, the All-high the All-great.

(viii)

اللّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

Allhumma salli al muhammadin wa aali muhammadin

O Allah bless Muhammad and his family

(ix)

اَللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالمُؤْمِنَاتِ.

'Allahumma ghfirlil muminina wal muminati

Allah please forgive the believing men & women

(x)

أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللّهَ وَأَتُوبُ إلَيْهِ

Astaghfirulaha wa atubuali

I repent before HIM

{9} It has been narrated that the Holy Prophet (S) said,

“One who recites Surah al-Tawheed 100 times at one night in Rajab will be decided to have fasted for one hundred years for the sake of Almighty Allah Who will also decide for him one hundred palaces (in Paradise) in the vicinity of one of the Prophets.”

{10} Visit the Shrines of Ahlulbayt (as) and recite Ziyarat Rajabia

Jumu'ah Khuthbah: 23 September 2022

After a productive week in the background where your Abbu and Ammu were both blessed to present in the AHHI Symposium into its second year running.

Subhana'Allah and Ya Shakur for the meaningful resonance experienced both in our marriage, as collectively in our Tariqa! A sweet fruition of our dua'a seeking a loving and peaceful sense of unity in goodness::

Ya Wadud Ya Salaam Ya Jami Ya Nafi

Let's now reflect on the moments that led us there, Bismillah...

#1. Raeesa referred to special spiritual times which enable heightened connection. However, these times are more meaningful when we give of ourselves out of love ensuring a stronger spiritual transmission of communication with Allah. There has to be sincerity and a constant commitment to realise Allah's secrets.

Just as the early hours of my address where there was a hiccup in my memory about the loadsheddimg schedule 4-6 am, which we were prepared for. It had nonetheless lapsed my short-term memory! However, it enabled me to complete all my daily dues, conveniently before the delivery of my address. Subhana'Allah × infinity, for such sublime serendipity, proving that I foster a loving connection with Allah - Ya Shakur! Allah's secret that I merrily realised was how aptly my address was delivered despite all my angst 😅 I suffered only a few minor hiccups...

#2. Shaykh Taner implored, how do we live with Allah? Our job as Sufis is not to forget Allah, which is done through the mechanism of Zikr which translates as "remembrance". By committing to Zikr; we fight defiance, unhappiness, scorn and we let go of control. We are made to watch Allah by focusing on Him over ourselves, as an automatic reaction.

#3. When we make connection during rabita, we must do so knowingly and even all the time, Shaykh Taner continued. However I argue that sometimes rabita is done unknowingly, but the fact that my daily devotions were magically completed the day of my AHHI address morning shows that our spiritual lineage are our wings to Allah, especially when Allah has granted the permission and power to connect.

#4. By imploring Allah's name in all our actions in our sentiments of Bismillah, Alhamdulillah / Shukran Ya Allah, Masha'Allah, Subhana'Allah and Allahu Akbar, we move with how Allah lives. Who is living, Shaykh Taner innocently asked..? Huu is living, as our inspired ilahi that Ammu plucked the courage to perform during her AHHI address.

In fact Allah is living because Allah's face is everywhere! Wherever we turn Allah's face is there. Is our face Allah's face? We are Allah, as many faces and more...we have to have the courage to say so because our rabita saves us from Shirk / Idolatry. Our spiritual lineage through rabita takes us away from our nafs. Sufism is designed to maintain our focus on Allah, which is why your Ammu was easily able to answer Raeesa who interviewed your Ammu during the AHHI address. When performing an action, attributing it to Allah makes it beautiful and more elegant. So Shukran Ya Allah for a fulfilling AHHI address!

It's like when we are in danger, we call on Allah and thereafter recite our Quls and Surah Fatiha. However in thinking about our accident, and the fact that when the paramedics got to the scene and before I became unconscious, I'm told that I uttered my concern for you two, as my then babies .. It gives me hope that Allah was on my lips during those turbulent moments. The reminder of Allah is important to be brought back to our true essence. Each breath we take should remind us that we are from Allah and shall return to Allah. Is Allah the earth, Shaykh Taner continued to ring in our conscience..? There is Allah and His teachings, with no separation - we just have to cut our attachments.

#5. Aside from the inspiring sessions delivered by Stephanie and your Maryam Bhen, your Abhu blew us away too! Towards a better understanding of our nature, when acting with nafs as "disregulation", and when in "coregulation" / with Allah. However our "triggers" / separation from Allah, in life activates our "glimmers" / gratitude too, which help us to feel safe and wanting "coregulation" / a sense of unity with Allah. This ties beautifully to why we must remember Allah in all our actions, Subhana'Allah!

Duaa for last night of Sha`ban and the first night of Ramadhan

اللّهُمَّ إنَّ هذَا الشَّهْرَ الْمُبَارَكَ الَّذِي أُنْزِلَ فِيهِ الْقُرْآنُ allahumma inna hadha alshshahra almubaraka alladhy ’unzila fihi alqur’anu O Allah: verily, this blessed month, in which the Qur'an was revealed

وَجُعِلَ هُدَىً لِلنَّاسِ وَبَيِّنَاتٍ مِنَ الْهُدَى وَالْفُرْقَانِ wa ju`ila hudan lilnnasi wa bayynatin mina alhuda wal-furqani and was made guidance for people and clear proofs of the guidance, and the Criterion (of right and wrong),

قَدْ حَضَرَ qad hadara has commenced

فَسَلِّمْنَا فِيه ِوَسَلَّمْهُ لَنَا fasallimna fihi wa sallimhu lana So, (please) keep us out of blemish during it, and keep it sound for us,

وَتَسَلَّمْهُ مِنَّا فِي يُسْرٍ مِنْكَ وَعَافِيَةٍ، wa tasallamhu minna fi yusrin minka wa `afiyatin accept it from us in a state of prosperity and health granted to us by You, accept my simple (acts).

يَا مَنْ أَخَذَ الْقَلِيلَ وَشَكَرَ الْكَثِيرَ ya man akhadha alqalila wa shakara alkathira O’ He who acknowledges and gives answer many times to the very little offered to Him and thanks us by giving us plenty,

اقْبَلْ مِنِّي الْيَسِيرَ. aqbal minny aliyasira (please) accept from me the little (deed).

اللّهُمَّ إنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ أَن ْتَجْعَلَ لِي إلَى كُلِّ خَيْرٍ سَبِيلاً، allahumma inni asaluka an taj`ala li ila kull khayrin sabilan O Allah: I beseech You to make for me a path to every decency,

وَمِنْ كُلِّ مَا لا تُحِبُّ مَانِعاً wa min kulli ma la tuhibbu mani`an and to make for me a barrier against everything that You do not like

يَا أَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِينَ، ya arhama alrrahimina O the most Merciful of all those who show mercy.

يَا مَنْ عَفَا عَنِّي وَعَمَّا خَلَوْتُ بِهِ مِنَ السَّيِّئَاتِ، ya man `afa `anni wa `amma khalawtu bihi mina alssayyi’ati O He Who has pardoned me and overlooked the misdeeds that I have committed secretly;

يَا مَنْ لَمْ يُؤَاخِذْنِي بِارْتِكَابِ الْمَعَاصِي، ya man lam yu´akhidhny biartikabi alma`asi O He Who has not punished me for my committing acts of disobedience to Him:

عَفْوَكَ عَفْوَكَ عَفْوَكَ، يَا كَرِيمُ. `afwaka `afwaka `afwaka ya karimu I seek Your pardon, I seek Your pardon, I seek Your pardon, O the All-generous.

إلهِي وَعَظْتَنِي فَلَمْ أَتَّعِظْ، ilahy wa `aztany falam atta`iz O my God: You advised me, but I have not followed Your advice,

وَزَجَرْتَنِي عَنْ مَحَارِمِكَ فَلَمْ أَنْزَجِرْ، wa zajartany `an maharimika falam anzajir and You rebuked me for violating that which You have deemed forbidden, but I have not stopped,

فَمَا عُذْرِي؟ fama `udhri Now, what is my excuse?

فَاعْفُ عَنِّي يَا كَرِيمُ، عَفْوَكَ عَفْوَكَ. fa`fu `anni ya karimu `afwaka `afwaka So, (please) pardon me, O the All-generous; I seek Your pardon, I seek Your pardon!

اللّهُمَّ إنّي أَسْأَلُك َالرَّاحَةَ عِنْدَ الْمَوْتِ، allahumma inni asaluka alrrahata `inda almawti O Allah: I beseech You for rest at death,

وَالْعَفْوَ عِنْدَ الْحِسَابِ، wal-`afwa `inda alhisabi and for pardon at calling to account.

عَظُمَ الذَّنْبُ مِنْ عَبْدِكَ فَلْيَحْسُنِ التَّجَاوُزُ مِنْ عِنْدِكَ، `azuma aldhdhanbu min `abdika faliyahsuni alttjauuzu min `indika Great is the sin of Your servant; so, let Your overlooking him be excellent.

يَا أَهْلَ التَّقْوَى وَيَا أَهْلَ الْمَغْفِرَةِ، عَفْوَكَ عَفْوَكَ. ya ahla alttaqwa wa ya ahla almaghfirati `afwaka `afwaka O He Who is worthy of being feared and is worthy of forgiving; I seek Your pardon, I seek Your pardon.

اللّهُمَّ إنِّي عَبْدُكَ بْنُ عَبْدِكَ بْنُ أَمَتِكَ allahumma inni `abduka ibnu `abdika ibnu amatika Allah: I am Your servant and the son of Your servant and Your she-servant,

ضَعِيفٌ فَقِيرٌ إلَى رَحْمَتِكَ، da`ifun faqirun ila rahmatika and I am weak and in need for Your mercy;

وَأَنْتَ مُنْزِلُ الْغِنَى وَالْبَرَكَةِ عَلَى الْعِبَادِ، wa anta munzilu alghina wal-barakati `ala al`ibadi and You are the Pourer of wealth and bless on the servants (of You),

قَاهِرٌ مُقْتَدِرٌ qahirun muqtadirun and You are omnipotent and full of power;

أَحْصَيْتَ أَعْمَالَهُمْ، ahsayta a`malahum as You have recorded all their (i.e. Your servants) deeds,

وَقَسَمْتَ أَرْزَاقَهُمْ، wa qasamta arzaqahum and You have decided the sustenance of each one them,

وَجَعَلْتَهُمْ مُخْتَلِفَةً أَلْسِنَتُهُمْ وَأَلْوَانُهُمْ خَلْقاً مِنْ بَعْدِ خَلْقٍ، wa ja`altahum mukhtalifatan alsinatuhum wa alwanuhum khalqan min ba`di khalqin and You have made them of different languages and colors; in different stages of creation;

وَلا يَعْلَمُ الْعِبَادُ عِلْمَكَ، wa la ya`lamu al`ibadu `ilmaka Your servants can never attain Your knowledge,

وَلا يَقْدِرُ الْعِبَادُ قَدْرَكَ، wa la yaqdiru al`ibadu qadraka and Your servants can never recognize the real estimate that is due to You

وَكُلُّنَا فَقِيرٌ إلَى رَحْمَتِكَ، wa kullna faqirun ila rahmatika and all of us are needy for Your mercy;

فَلا تَصْرِفْ عَنِّي وَجْهَكَ، fala tasrif `anni wajhaka So, (please) do not turn Your Face away from me,

وَاجْعَلْنِي مِنْ صَالِحِي خَلْقِكَ فِي الْعَمَلِ وَالأَمَلِ وَالْقَضَاءِ وَالْقَدَرِ. waj`alny min salihy khalqika fi al`amali wal-amali wal-qada‘i wal-qadari and include me with the virtuous creatures of You in deeds, hopes, and Your decisions (for me).

اللّهُمَّ أَبْقِنِي خَيْرَ الْبَقَاءِ، allahumma abqiny khayra albaqa‘i O Allah: (please) keep me alive in the best manner of living,

وَأَفْنِنِي خَيْرَ الْفَنَاءِ عَلَى مُوَالاةِ أَوْلِيَائِكَ، wa afniny khayra alfana‘i `ala muwalati awliya’ika and decide for me to die in the best manner of death keeping loyal to Your representatives,

وَمُعَادَاةِ أَعْدَائِكَ wa mu`adati a`da’ika and incurring the enmity of Your enemies,

وَالرَّغْبَةِ إلَيْكَ، وَالرَّهْبَةِ مِنْكَ، wal-rraghbati ilayka wal-rrahbati minka and keeping desiring for You and fearing from You,

وَالْخُشُوعِ وَالْوَفَاءِ وَالتَّسْلِيمِ لَكَ، wal-khushu`i wal-wafa‘i wal-ttaslimi laka and submission, faithfulness, and compliance with You,

وَالتَّصْدِيقِ بِكِتَابِكَ، wal-ttasdiqi bikitabika and keeping belief in Your Book

وَاتِّبَاعِ سُنَّةِ رَسُولِكَ. wattiba`i sunnati rasulika and following Your Prophet’s instructions.

اللّهُمَّ مَا كَانَ فِي قَلْبِي allahumma ma kana fi qalby O Allah: as for whatever I bear in my heart,

مِنْ شَكٍّ أَوْ رِيبَةٍ min shakkin aw ribatin including suspicion or doubt

أَوْ جُحُودٍ أَوْ قُنُوطٍ aw juhudin aw qunutin or denial or despair

أَوْ فَرَحٍ أَوْ بَذَخٍ أَوْ بَطَرٍ aw farahin aw badhakhin aw batarin or (excessive) joy or lavish expenditure or recklessness

أَوْ خُيَلاءَ أَوْ رِيَاءٍ أَوْ سُمْعَةٍ aw khuyala‘a aw rya‘in aw sum`atin or pride or arrogance or ostentation

أَوْ شِقَاقٍ أَوْ نِفَاقٍ aw shiqaqin aw nifaqin or discord or hypocrisy

أَوْ كُفْرٍ أَوْ فُسُوقٍ أَوْ عِصْيَانٍ aw kufrin aw fusuqin aw `isyanin or unbelief or licentiousness or disobedience

أَوْ عَظَمَةٍ أَوْ شَيْءٍ لا تُحِبُّ، aw `azamatin aw shay‘in la tuhibbu or conceit or anything else that You do not like;

فَأَسْأَلُكَ يَا رَبِّ أَنْ تُبَدِّلَنِي مَكَانَهُ إيمَاناً بِوَعْدِكَ، fasaluka ya rabbi an tubaddlany makanahu ‘imanan biwa`dika I thus beseech You, O my Lord, to substitute all that with belief in Your promise

وَوَفَاءً بِعَهْدِكَ، wa wafa‘an bi`ahdika and fulfilling of my covenant to You

وَرِضاً بِقَضَائِكَ، wa ridan biqada’ika and satisfaction with what You decide for me

وَزُهْداً فِي الدُّنْيَا، wa zuhdan fi alddunya and indifference to the worldly pleasures

وَرَغْبَةً فِيمَا عِنْدَكَ، wa raghbatan fima `indaka and desire for that which You have

وَأَثَرَةً وَطُمَأْنِينَةً وَتَوْبَةً نَصُوحاً، wa atharatan wa tumaninatan wa tawbatan nasuhan and altruism and tranquility and sincere repentance;

أَسْأَلُكَ ذلِكَ يَا رَبَّ الْعَالَمِينَ. asaluka dhalika ya rabba al`alamina I beseech You for all that, O the Lord of the worlds.

إلهِي أَنْتَ مِنْ حِلْمِكَ تُعْصَى فَكَأَنَّكَ لَمْ تُرَ، ilahy anta min hilmika tu`sa faka-annaka lam tura O my God: because You are so forbearing, You are disobeyed as if You are not present,

وَمِنْ كَرَمِكَ وَجُودِكَ تُطَاعُ فَكَأَنَّكَ لَمْ تُعْصَ، wa min karamika wa judika tuta`u faka-annaka lam tu`sa and because You are so generous and magnanimous, You are obeyed as if You have not been disobeyed at all

وَأَنَا وَمَنْ لَمْ يَعْصِكَ سُكَّانُ أَرْضِكَ wa ana wa man lam ya`sika sukkanu ardika Both those who have not disobeyed You and I are the inhabitants of Your lands;

فَكُنْ عَلَيْنَا بِالْفَضْلِ جَوَاداً، fakun `alayna bilfadli jawadan So, (please) confer magnanimously upon us with Your favors

وَبِالْخَيْرِ عَوَّاداً، wa bilkhayri `awwadan and always refer to us with Your goodness

يَا أَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِينَ، ya arhama alrrahimina O the most Merciful of all those who show mercy.

وَصَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِهِ صَلاةً دَائِمَةً wa salla allahu `ala muhammadin wa alihi salatan da’imatan May Allah bless Muhammad and his Household with endless blessings

لا تُحْصَى وَلا تُعَدُّ وَلا يَقْدِرُ قَدْرَهَا غَيْرُكَ la tuhsa wa la tu`add wa la yaqdiru qadraha ghayruka that are innumerable, uncountable, and none can do it save You,

يَا أَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِينَ. ya arhama alrrahimina O the most Merciful of all those who show mercy.

Ya Rabb, I have wronged myself, my family, relatives, friends, classmates and coworkers and strangers. Please forgive me and let them forgive me.

Ya Rahman, Ya Raheem, please forgive their sins and save them from the punish of the grave and hell and grant them the shade of Your Throne on the day of Judgement and admit them into Jannatul Firdous without Reckoning. O Reliever of stress, relieve them from distress and anxiety. Ya Wadhoodh, Ya Wahhab, Ya Razzaq, grant them good in dunya and Akhirah.

Ya Mujeeb, Ya Shafi, Ya Hadi, protect them, heal them, and guide them to the straight path.

Ya Ilahi, Ya Rabbi, Ya Allah, please grant them Your Love, and the love for deeds that You Love and the Love of people that You Love.

Hijrah Berjamaah

alhamdulillah, mashaAllah, nadya tak henti berucap syukur dan memuji kebesaran Ilahi Rabbi. lagi-lagi Allah membuktikan bahwa semua manusia berhak dan pantas mendapatkan hidayah, Allah bebas memberikannya kepada siapapun yg Ia kehendaki.

setelah kak Fenita Arie mantap berhijab mengikuti jejak artis-artis lain, kini umat islam khususnya para muslimah bersorak gembira dan bersyukur atas langkah hijrah Kak Kartika Putri yg berubah haluan 360 derajat. mudah sekali bagi Allah memercikkan hidayah kepada seorang anak manusia selama hayat dikandung badan. hati nadya ikut gemetar mendengarkan kesaksian Kak Kartika yg menuturkan alasannya berhijrah.

Teringat mati adalah kartu kuning dari Allah

Kak Kartika Putri secara gamblang menjelaskan bahwa alasan beliau berhijrah adalah karena takut akan kematian. ia berujar bahwa Allah mendatangkan peringatan kepadanya lewat sebuah mimpi yg membuatnya takut akan dosa, mengingat kematian, menyesali apa yg sudah ia perbuat.

nadya percaya bahwa setiap manusia di dunia ini pernah mengalami takut akan kematian dengan beragam alasan dan kondisi. setidaknya saat kita naik pesawat, kita sontak tenggelam dalam keringat karena teringat akan kematian yg bisa saja terjadi saat penerbangan, kita sibuk membaca doa, berdzikir, bertasbih dan mengingat Allah, seakan perjalan itu adalah perjalanan terakhir kita. namun, padahal, jangankan di pesawat, banyak manusia yg mati di atas tempat tidurnya.

manusia ini aneh, ya, kita suka aneh memahami kematian. banyak orang beranggapan bahwa mengingat mati adalah suatu keburukan, pamali.

"duuh.. yauda aku bayar sekarang aja, gatau umur juga kan, manatau nanti...."

"hush! gabole ngomong gitu, ganti topik aah. ngeremin aja..."

ya, herannya saat kita mengingat kematian, banyak di antara kita yg malah menghentikan/dismiss "alarm" tersebut. padahal jelas bahwa saat Allah mengingatkan kita mati, saat itulah Allah ingin kita kembali pada-Nya. mengingatkan kita bahwa dunia ini fana, kejar surga saja. Allah begitu sayang kpd kita, sebelum ajal menjemput, Allah beri warning dulu, sebelum semua terlambat.

Penyesalan itu belakangan, kalo di depan namanya imam.

dulu masih zamannya BBM, nadya punya beberapa kenalan bule. sering bertanya tentang gaya hidup mereka, tentang bagaimana bisa mereka menjadi atheist. dengan teori big bag dan sebagainya, mereka dgn percaya diri menyatakan bahwa manusia adalah tuhan dari semesta alam, tahan emosi.

beberapa hari setelah percakapan yg menguras emosi tersebut, dia melakukan penerbangan London to Chicago.

Trip to Chicago must be lit. *ujarnya dalam personal message*

selang beberapa saat, he updated his status:

"holy shhhhtt, the turbulence just kicked my heart out. thank God for saving me"

sontak nadya langsung sambar dia dengan kalimat, "ah you trust God now yeah?", then he said, "naah its just idk"

magis! kematian selalu menjadi faktor utama manusia mengingat Tuhan. indah, bagaimana Allah dengan mudah menggetarkan hati manusia dengan menanamkan peringatan kematian kepada kita. kita wajib bersyukur jikalau masih mengingat mati, karena di luaran sana ironisnya malah ada yg lupa mati, takut mati, tapi malah ingin segera mati, merokok, mengkonsumsi narkoba dll.

The Power of Doa

hal pertama yg terbersit di pikiran nadya saat Kak Kartika Putri memutuskan berhijrah adalah,

ini adalah bentuk doa yg diijabah.

dari ribuan hingga jutaan penggemar Kak Kartika atau Kak Fenita Arie, ada segelintir dari mereka yg tulus mendoakan mereka untuk segera diberikan hidayah dari Allah. mereka yg mengagumi artis favorit mereka dan melampiaskannya dalam untaian doa, melangitkan nama mereka di setiap sujud dan doa mereka. hingga Allah menangkap dan mengijabah doa-doa tersebut. betapa hebat kekuatan doa, magis sekali.

instead of mocking, yelling, teasing and flirting, can we just please give nice message and praying for their dunia and akhirat's happiness?

fenomena artis berhijrah kini bukan barang baru bagi dunia entertainment Indonesia. perubahan yg terjadi pada diri Bang Teuku Wisnu beserta istri, lalu disambut lagi dengan hijrahnya public figure dan musisi seperti Virgoun, Ivan seventeen hingga para artis wanita yg mantap berhijab, patut kita syukuri.

Ayo dukung!

hal yg paling dibutuhkan seorang muslim saat ia melangkahkan kaki keluar dari jurang terjal, memutar balik kehidupan, meninggalkan jahiliyah, adalah dukungan. what kind of support do they need? DOA, nasihat, semangat!

saat seseorang ingin melakukan sesuatu, yg ia cari pertama adalah teman, sekutu. siapa kira-kira yg sepaham dengan rencana dan idenya, siapa yg kira-kira dapat menguatkan rencana dan niatan yg dimiliki. siapa yg dapat mendukung dalam pergerakannya.

first thing first is FAMILY. family always comes first. kita pasti butuh sokongan dari saudara, orangtua, orang terdekat kita. bersyukurlah saat kita ingin menjalankan syariat Islam, lalu orang sekitar kita mendukung dan menyemangati kita. karena, di luaran sana begitu banyak yg harus berkutat dengan ocehan, cacian, makian, penolakan dsri berbagai pihak, khususnya keluarga mereka.

kita, sebagai teman, sebagai sesama muslim wajib membantu mereka yg ingin mengenal Allah. setidaknya mereka harus tau bahwa kita adalh orang-orang yg siao berdiri di garda terdepan dalam mendekap mereka, menggandeng, mengulurkan tangan, merangkul mereka dalam beribadah. hargailah setiap proses yg ada, sekecil apapun itu. jangan pernah menjudge, "kamu katanya uda hijrah, kok masi gini gitu. itu tidak boleh". kalimat seperti itu malah akan menindas semangat mereka, nasihatilah dengan cara baik. tuntun mereka ke kajian ilmu yg bermanfaat. mengokohkan keimanan. bantuan lainnya adalah dengan tidak menyebarkan foto aib/foto jahiliyah orang tersebut. ini adalah salah satu yg saya takutkan, nadya takut sekali saat nadya sudah berusaha menghapus dan meninggalkan rekam jejak buruk, tiba-tiba orang lain malah mengumbar dan menyebarkannya.

tapi, nadya yakin, Allah pasti membantu kita. masa iya Allah ngebiarin hamba-Nya yg mau mendekat kepada-Nya? so, bantu juga Kak Kartika Putri yg memohon dengan kerendahan hatinya untuk menghapus atau setidaknya tidak menyebar luaskan foto masa lalunya di platform manapun.

Jangan Memuji

pujian adalah bumerang paling liar berdarah dingin bagi manusia. udahan memujinya, jangan merusak niatan saudara kita yg ingin berhijrah karena Allah. jangan coreng ketulusan hatinya, jangan.

semoga Allah menuntun kita kepada jalan kebenaran, memampukan kita untuk menasihati dalam kebenaran, menasihati dalam kesabaran. serta memberikan rezeki yg paling dahsyat, paling mahal harganya, hidayah dan rahmat. hingga kelak saat ruh meninggalkan jasad, kita sudah tak lagi takut dan kaku lagi. kita menghadapinya dengan hati yg tenang dan penuh keyakinan bahwa janji Allah pasti ditepati.

What was particularly funny is that my Caregiver has a thing for pink items and dressed me in bright pink socks which I pointed out to my social support system that I thanked for appearing on my slides 😊 They equally humourously responded saying they love the socks and have such fettishes themselves 😄 I thanked our Sufi Islamic Tariqa, titled Ansari Qadiri Rifai Tariqa, and TIP (Taking Islam to the People - which is a community based organisation we belong to, aimed at making Islam available to others to learn from)... I thanked them both for creating spiritual purpose and leading me to find resonance in my being! This was amongst my immediate family including my step-kids, my extended family including my High School friends - as a tightly bound social circle. It was my opportunity to convey my gratitude to them all, for being such major anchors throughout my accident!
