Hani, a hugely popular figure and the then leader of the South African Communist Party, was gunned down by Janusz Walus, a white supremacist, on April 10, 1993. Three decades on, many South Africans harbor questions about the killing, suspecting Walus and his accomplice did not act alone. Conspiracy theories, involving anyone from the secret services to the ANC, abound. “I don’t have closure,” Hani’s widow, Limpho, told a memorial ceremony attended by SACP party leaders and foreign dignitaries on Monday. “That is why I am wearing black today. Until such time the truth comes out I am in mourning for life.

Launched in 1961 by leaders of the African National Congress (ANC) of South Africa and the South African Communist Party (SACP), Umkhonto we Sizwe (MK) was the military wing of the ANC until its disbandment in 1993.

I read something recently that talked about how “Anarcho-syndicalism” is a dying idea, and having looked into it and seen it as an honestly pretty valid school of thought, I’d like to hear your take on it

Anarcho-syndicalism is not so much a theory as it is a plan of action. In my opinion, the main issue is that it lacks any real theoretical underpinning. It's not a concept which you can use to understand reality, and as such it is not an idea which can (or should) be used to shape reality.

A more practical critique of Anarcho-syndicalism is that union's aren't revolutionary orginisations. They are orginisations which promote and facilitate the interests of their constituencies. Unions negotiate, bargaining through collective power. Anarcho-syndicalism cannot achieve what it aim to achieve, even if it is able to do what it sets out to do (which I don't think is possible or sustainable) it will just result in the creation of a different structure of capitalism, or charitably a type of socialism.

The proliteriate and the bourgeois are classes which necessitate one another, they are defined in contradiction. The goal of proletariat control over industry is not a resolution to the contradictions of capitalism, and as such it is unable to progress from capitalism. Different types of bourgeoisie will be formed, I'd imagine them to be comparable to the national bourgeois in neo-colonial states. The National bourgeois extracts capital through nationalised industry. I think union controlled industries would end up doing the same. Capitalism pursuits regardless of who controls or owns the means of production as long as the relationship to production is maintained. It is not about ownership or control.

The socialist state is transitional, it isn't a distinct structure. It's not something that can exist by itself. The socialist state is not an end. It is highly contridictory and unstable, it requires guidance or else it will collapse. It is more war than utopia. It needs to win, and to win it needs direction and leadership, a unified purpose. A union is not politically unified, it is a manifestation of the common interest of a particular group.

I'm not sure if you (or Anarcho-syndicalists) know how labour unions work. Even within capitalism unions require hierarchical control. For instance, in South Africa, we have COSATU (the Congress of South African Trade Unions) which exists to try unify the varying and sometimes contridictory interests of 20 different unions. COSATU itself is part of the (soon to be former) tripartite alliance consisting of the SACP, the ANC, and itself. COSATU is the biggest, but not only, federation of unions in South Africa. Other unions have split from COSATU and created their own federations due to differing interest / goals / disagreements.

And their plan is to not have any hierarchical structures? To think that unions would be able to do anything without hierarchical orginisation to facilitate revolution is naive.

Anarcho-syndicalism, and anarchism in general, is based on the hopes of what people would do, not on what people will do and have done. They aren't rooted in reality, they are ad hoc rationalisation of dreams.

I'm sorry if this is all a bit incoherent. I just ended up writing down the rant I was having in my head. Also, I think this is the first post in over a year, lol.

Este sistema político fue declarado como crimen internacional por parte de la Convención de las Naciones Unidas, celebrada en el año 1973.

En dicha resolución de las Naciones Unidas se exigió la liberación inmediata e incondicional de todas las personas que fueron encarceladas por su participación en la lucha por la liberación de Sudáfrica

Nelson Mandela: un líder sudafricano tras las rejas

Nelson Mandela fue un abogado y político sudafricano que constituyó una figura clave en la lucha por el Apartheid y la igualdad racial a nivel mundial.

Nacido en Sudáfrica y originario del grupo étnico sudafricano Xhosa se involucró durante su juventud en la política anticolonialista de este país, formando parte del Congreso Nacional Africano y fundó una Liga Juvenil.

Fue arrestado en varias ocasiones por actividades sediciosas en su ejercicio como abogado. Posteriormente formó parte del comité central del Partido Comunista Sudafricano (SACP). En el año 1962 fue arrestado y acusado de conspiración en el intento de derrocar al gobierno, siendo sentenciado con cadena perpetua durante el Proceso de Rivonia.

Fue un juicio desarrollado en Sudáfrica entre los años 1963 y 1964, mediante el cual juzgaron a 10 líderes del Congreso Nacional Africano por innumerables actos de sabotaje para derrocar al Apartheid.

Nelson Mandela fue uno de los presos políticos más emblemáticos de su país. Estuvo encarcelado durante 27 años en la Isla Robben y en las prisiones de Polismoor y Víctor Verster. Mediante las campañas realizadas internacionalmente para presionar por su libertad fue liberado en el año 1990, en medio de un escenario social complejo en Sudáfrica.

Después de ganar las elecciones se convirtió en el primer presidente de la República de Sudáfrica durante el periodo 1994-1999.
